Excellent Company and Excellent service! Total Home Improvements came out to inspect and they returned even faster than they initially scheduled. They understood if my siding wasn't repaired prior to the oncoming cold snap, that it would end up costing me more money-so they re-arranged their schedule to help save me money! The work actually cost less than what was expected. Prompt service, professional installation and a courteous contractor to perform the work just can't be beat! They even sent me a "Thank you" note for my patronage. Great company and I highly recommend. I will definitely be using them for any future home repairs-whether large or small.

Everything went very smoothly. Barry was our "leader" during the course of this evolution. I couldn't have been more pleased. He's extremely knowledgeable, pleasant and most professional. Everyone with whom I came into contact couldn't have been nicer. Total Home Improvement's apparent goal throughout this building project was to keep us happy while doing the most professional job possible. It worked! We're happy and the job is the picture of perfection. I will definitely call on them again and will recommend them to all. Jack.

to others.I originally contacted the company through AL and heard back within 48 hours. I had sent a picture of the repair that was needed and received a quote in my initial response. I followed up with a call to the company to set up the work. They were very responsive to my questions, although, the start date was a little unclear at first. I received a call from a rep the next day who clarified everything including when I could expect the work to be done. The contractor showed up right on time, fixed the siding without issue, and I am happy with the result. I was nervous that a small job might go to the bottom of the list but I do not feel that this was the case. I would use THI again and recommend to others.

They installed a beautiful 6-foot high wooden privacy fence with three gates around the backside of my property. The fence is clean, straight and very nicely constructed considering the shape and angles of my back yard. They cleared out all of the brush, bushes, small trees and rocks ahead of time and marked off the area needing to be done. Within the next couple of days, construction began and was quickly completed. There was a small hiccup where they cut a power line that became a very uncomfortable ordeal for everyone when Dominion ended up blowing all the transformers in the area, but they took care of it quickly and professionally and it barely slowed anything down without me having to worry about a single thing. They also did a few structural repairs to my home by lifting up from underneath my crawlspace where the fireplace hearth had weighed the floor down.. that is beautifully level and secure now. I didn't think they would be able to make it feel as level as they did, so I am impressed! They modified my kitchen cabinets and my Corian countertops so we could fit in a microwave over the stove and so we could fit in a standard sized stove in there, and they did an excellent job. Everything fits smoothly and it doesn't even look like anyone had to cut anything. The only reason I gave them a B for "Punctuality" is because projects never started on the days they said they would. Each time I was told "We will start this on Monday" it didn't happen until Tuesday or Wednesday, so that was frustrating since I had to be the one to call them in order to get a status update more often than not. But, they were very good about getting things done quickly once they did start, and since most of it was exterior work, the delays didn't impact my life at all. Overall, I am satisfied with this company and happy with all of the work they did for me. They were incredibly friendly and explained everything in great detail. Thanks, guys, for a great job!

We approved the estimate and expect work to begin 17Nov14.
Description of Work: Gave an estimate for work to be performed.
The overall experience of this remodel effort exceeded our expectations from the professionalism, to the attention to detail, to the high quality finished product. Our sales associate took great pains to find out what our intentions were for a remodel before he wrote up a contract. He wasn't hesitant to point out types of things that might or might not work. Our one learning point was that before signing the contract, make sure both parties are absolutely sure what is and what is not included in the contract. But those differences were minor in the grand scheme of things. We were given generous allowances for tile, granite, and plumbing fixtures. Our sales associate made multiple trips with us to the suppliers to assist us with our selections. The best part of the experience was our project supervisor. He always showed up when he said he would be there and made sure that he was in constant contact with the sub contractors. He insisted on a clean work place. If there was any part of the job that we were unhappy with at the end of a day, he was on it to get it right early the next morning even if it meant bringing the sub contractor with him. He was always in close communication with us checking to see if the job was meeting our expectations. He gave us the heads up if we were coming to the date where we had to make a selection of a tile or mirror or shower doors or accessories. When we gave him a punch list, he started working on it that day and didn't stop until we were satisfied with the finished product. The bottom line is, we ended up with a total bathroom remodel and partial kitchen remodel that exceeded our expectations. The quality of work was outstanding and the finished job was beautiful. We went with Total Home Improvements because 2 of our neighbors had recommended them. In the end, the job came in within our budget and we are a very happy customer. I would highly recommend their services for anyone needing a high quality home improvement job.
Description of Work: They did 2 jobs The smaller one was in the kitchen where they replaced our counters with granite and put up a tile backsplash. The larger job was a remodel of our bathroom where we replaced everything except for our cabinets and our jacuzzi. We replaced a small step in shower insert with a beautiful walk in shower with tile. The size of the shower doubled. All of the tile on the floor and walls was replaced. We had a double vanity put in with granite counter tops and a new center medicine cabinet built into the wall between 2 mirrors. Almost all of the lighting was replaced as well as all of the plumbing fixtures. We also had a new commode installed.

They started the job on the date I was promised, they were always punctual, and did the job in a timely manner. They were most professional. I was very happy with the work, loved the design, and was very pleased with my lead man. They took pride in their work, and always left the place clean when they left. I got 3 estimates and they were by far the best. I would definitely use them again. B L

Everything was perfect. He was on time, very thorough, and detailed. He took numerous pictures, and generated a report that was essential for future renovations.
Description of Work: He gave us a detailed home inspection.
The short version: All THI services exceeded our expectations completely! The quality of the work was outstanding and we are completely satisfied with the results and would highly recommend Total Home Improvement to anyone needing home improvement services. The long version: We became acquainted with THI at the Hampton Home and Garden Show and spent some time talking with them at their booth. As a result of this conversation we decided to ask for an estimate of the work that we needed performed on our home. Joe Chiapetta was the Design/Sales Consultant who met with us to determine what we wanted and to provide an estimate of the services. He was simply fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable. We had a basic idea of what we wanted to do with the room that we wanted finished and he helped us understand what could be done and at what cost. He made several suggestions that were right on and contributed to the overall superb finished result. He also gave us estimates for the other work we wanted and reasonable alternatives with their associated costs. We felt that all the estimates were very reasonable and were very comfortable with Joe and so we asked TMI to perform all the work we needed. The work was started with a "walk thru" with Joe, our Project Manager Kenny Brown and Supervisor Greg Rankin. The purpose of the walk thru was to meet the Project Manager and Supervisor and to communicate the plan and ensure that everyone was on the same page. Everyone was incredibly personable and articulate about the job. I was given a timeline for the work. I cannot say enough good things about this THI crew. They are highly professional and skilled at what they do. And they are incredibly nice guys. As is often the case with home improvement projects as the work progressed we came up with other "projects" that we wanted done. THI was incredibly accommodating and added the jobs to the project and accomplished them within the original timeframe. During the project when I was around I peppered Greg with questions about various topics on home maintenance. It became obvious to me very quickly that Greg has a great wealth of experience in all aspects of home improvement/repair. He was happy to take the time to educate me on a variety of topics and even taught me a great technique for patching holes in drywall. To demonstrate the technique he patched a couple of holes in my garage that weren't even on the work list. It is obvious he enjoys his work and teaching and is incredibly good at it. We were totally satisfied with the finished result which was outstanding. The exterior of the house looks fantastic and the painters did a superb job. Being on the water the elements had played havoc with the exterior wood of our house so there was a lot of prep work to be done before painting. The painters ensured that the wood was properly prepped/sanded/primed before the final coats of paint were applied and believe me that was no small undertaking. The prep itself took several days. The painters were simply fantastic and the final result was reflective of their skill and hard work. We were totally satisfied with the result which exceeded our expectations. The room that was finished over the garage turned out better than we could have ever expected. The room's shape provided a challenge in finishing but the final result made it the most appealing room in our home. Joe was right on in his recommendations and we are likewise totally satisfied with the results. We felt very comfortable with everyone who came to work on our home from the insulators, the drywall installers, the electricians, the cabinet installers, the painters, and of course the supervisors (Joe/Kenny/Greg). The supervisors kept in close communication with us and ensured that we were happy with the work at each step of the project. The entire Total Home Improvement Team was highly professional and personable. In summary, we had a rather large and varied home improvement project that Total Home Improvement performed in an exemplary and cost effective manner. The final result was simply fantastic. We are totally satisfied and highly recommend Total Home Improvement to anyone needing work performed on their homes.
Description of Work: Finished a room over our garage. Installed skylights and hardwood floors. Re-finished our laundry room and installed new cabinets. Prepped and painted the outside of our house. Moved a light fixture in our dining room. Installed a storm door. Re-caulked the kitchen and master bathroom.
Work started on schedule, June 25 and work completed 1-1/2 wks. early, July 1. Work is very professional. Excellent cleanup each night. Project is beautiful and exceeds our expectations. Great work and 1st rate materials. Can't say enough about THI.
Description of Work: Kitchen renovations-one cabinet replaced and several others moved. Formica counters replaced with granite. Tile backsplash added. Linoleum floor replaced with prefinished solid hardwood.

Several weeks before the job started I contacted this company to get an estimate on repairing the tile around my bathtub. An estimate was performed a few days later around 5:30 P.M. (I don't get home until after 5). The representative gave me a ruff estimate on the spot. Since I liked what I heard, he agreed to come by with a contract in the next few days. A couple of weeks passed and I did not hear back from him, and he would not return my calls. I had issues in the past with contractors not wanting to do job they considered "to small", so I figured he was avoiding me. Then, after I had already started talking to other companies, he decided to call me back. Initially, I was reluctant to have this company perform the work because of there unprofessionalism of not returning my calls in a timely manner, however, some of the other companies I was talking with, seemed reluctant to do small jobs as well. So, I decided to hire Total Home Improvement. A few days later, the same rep who did the estimate came over after I got off of work (around 5:30) and we signed a contract to start on June 23rd. I received a call on the Friday before the job started and was asked if I was going to be home at 8:30 on the 23rd. I explained (once again) my job hours and that I would not be home at 8:30 because I would be at work. She had the sales rep call me and ask me "again" if I was going to be home at 8:30, and once again I told him I would be at work. I had already met with this rep twice after I got home from work (around 5:30), so he was aware of my work hours. When I explained "once again" my work hours, he copped an attitude and told me just to let him know where the keys were (not quite as friendly after the contract was signed). The job was estimated to last from June 23rd - June 27th, however it took until July 2nd. About few days after they started to lay tile, I noticed that my garden hose nozzle was unraveled and resting in my bushes. When I went to put the nozzle back where it belonged, I notices a 3 foot diameter white circle in my bushes. Apparently it was plaster, and it was a couple of inches thick. I called Total Home Improvement and the next day, the crew manger came out and I showed it to him. He told me that the guy was just rinsing out his bucket and that he would either have to do it there or on the street. I was stunned with such a lackadaisical and unprofessional response. I told him that this was completely unprofessional. He begrudgingly apologized and cleaned it up. However, I couple of days later the tile guy did it again. The hose was moved again and it appeared he made a feeble attempt to spread it around so it wasn't as noticeable, but I could tell. I wanted to tell him to stay the h*** out of me property, but the job was almost done, so I decided to hold me tongue. A couple of days later when I was driving home from work, Total Home Improvement called and they told me that the job was done, and asked me when I wanted to schedule a walk through. I told them anytime after 5, and they told me that they couldn't do that because it had to be done during normal business hours, which were 8:30 - 3:30. I explained for the umpteenth my work yours, and that I could not blow off half a day to do a walk through. After I arrived home I did my own walk through. The work was shoddy. The tile was cut unevenly in places and plaster was smeared on some of the painted surfaces. Also, I had to thoroughly sweep up all of the plaster chips on the floor. The final insult came a few days later when I received a voicemail from them asking me to call to schedule a walk through. I couldn't tell if it was the same person I spoke to a few days prior regarding the exact same subject. These people need to get their act together.

This is by far the best company for tub repair in my opinion. I called around for several company estimates located in the area and Total Home Improvements was one of three companies to ever even provide a quote. They were very quick to set up an appointment once I had selected them to look at everything the company offered, arrived the day of the appointment ready to go and were very professional throughout the entire process. This professionalism makes me certain that I will be contacting them again directly once we are ready to build that half bath at the rear of the house for company visits. The bathroom looks amazing, we kept the brushed nickel fixtures already installed, although the company does give you options for that as well, but everything else was just perfect. From intitial contact, to install and clean up, they did everything right. They even covered my wood floors to avoid scratches, managed to get up the stairs with all of the parts while being careful of the walls and reminded me about wait times before use just in case I wouldn't have known. The caulking was very neat, the tub set just as it should be and my kids love the new tub. We are all very satisfied with the work from this great company. Now anyone that asks will get the same recommendation regarding a great bathroom install company in the Hampton Roads area, why Total Home Improvements of course.

Customer had an excellent experience with the company. She got service in September of 2013. The service cost around 3000 dollars. What stood out about the provider was that they did the job like it should have been done in the first place. Customer feels that other Angie's list users should know that the company was very professional, answered her questions, truthful, and the receptionist was very nice and helpful. They did a very good job on her roof, and the workers were very nice and professional. Customer stated that she would highly recommend the company.

Joe came out and listed all that's needed to do and a few days later came back with a work-plan. Everything was detailed: how long will it take, each are detailed. The kitchen remodel got a floor plan according what we wanted, fitting beautifully to the limited space we had. They took care of everything, we just had to pick out the flooring, cabinets and hardware, and buy the appliances. In the contract they even give us a deadline when the renovation will be finished and it was completed by that time! Barry the carpenter was amazing, he hand made the railing to match the original to the house. We had a slight problem with the cabinets. It was the makers fault, but Joe and Berry talked to them and they came out to correct it. All the subcontractors were great! No mess was left behind, just a wonderful new house to enjoy. I know it is a late review, but I thought I did then and I'm doing it now because they deserve it.
Description of Work: Gut the entire kitchen, and rebuild it with all new cabinets, and appliances. Remove a wall in the loft and replace the original railing there. Hallway to enlarge with a new wood floor. Fix the wall where the water pipes were replaced. Paint the kitchen and the repaired wall.

As I was under a time crunch, Total Home Improvements did a marvelous job and finished in plenty of time before my deadline. The kitchen/dining area had been extensively destroyed by tenants using a paint stripper to remove the old paint which damaged the walls even more. Total Home Improvements got right in there and did a marvelous job finishing everything in 3 1/2 days. I could not have asked for anything better or anything more. It was an amazing before and after job. Every single one of the people were totally professional, courteous, and knew what they were doing. I felt like they were family. I totally recommend Total Home Improvements to anyone who needs a contractor.

We bought our 100 year old late-era Vicky in 1999. It was in varying stages of disrepair, but not a mission impossible. We?ve done much of the restorative work ourselves, but when it came to this project, we knew we were over our heads. We interviewed four contractors and one architect. We initially were thinking of getting an architect to help us with the plans then hiring a general contractor to pull it off, but realized a GC could do it all. One contractor told us to tear the entire back end of the house off and start over. Another wanted to charge us for an estimate and was nice enough to indicate he would deduct the amount of the estimate price from the contract if we selected him. No kidding. You can?t make this stuff up. We were looking for a contractor who had our ?vision? and we were striking out. The last contractor we met with was Total Home Improvements. We knew nothing about them other than what I?d read on Angie?s List and passing their office on Rte. 17 thousands of times. Frank Griffin and Joe Chiapetta teamed up and sat with us on site on numerous occasions, red lining this, adding on to that and no contract had even been signed, nor had we ever promised it would be. On several occasions, we?d remark that we?d like something to look a particular way and with a few keystrokes, Frank would say, ?You mean like this?? and turn his computer around for us to see a revised plan. My husband collects antique toasters. (I know, I know, but there are worse things.) In one of Frank?s drawings, he?d inserted toaster graphics that were proudly displayed atop the drafted kitchen cabinets. Priceless. THI?s price was very reasonable. Demo began at the end of June 2013 and wrapped up for the most part at the end of September 2013. In all but a handful of the 90 days, someone was on site working on something. I work from my home, in fact, my office is very close to the construction area, and one of my big concerns was noise, interruptions of power, etc. However, surprisingly, noise and interruptions were minimal. There are stars that shall not go nameless. There is also a dim bulb that needs to be noted so you don?t make the mistake we did. The flooring in our new four-season room had not really been completely vetted by us, like every other detail so it was exciting to visit Pro Source (THI?s flooring supplier) to see what our options were. Our home consists mostly of 100-year old heart pine floors and our dining room we refinished with new red oak planks, so we are no stranger to hardwood floors. At Pro Source, we found a bamboo product called MOSO 6 year strand woven bamboo flooring. As you no doubt have heard, bamboo is supposed to be highly durable. We had at the time planned to keep our firewood ring in the new four-season room, so durability was definitely a consideration. The ?model? was a multi-width antique look which was exactly what we wanted, but the installation called for floating. Personally, I do not care for floating floors. The sound and feel to me says ?cheesy?. I mentioned this to the Pro Source rep who contacted the manufacturer who reported the product could be glued. But when the installer arrived, he refused to glue the product indicating it would void our warranty. Long story longer, the product was floated and we ended up with visibly spongy areas. In other words, you could notably see the floor give way under footsteps as someone walked across. (The walker can even experience a tinge of vertigo, as it gives the feeling as if you are about to drop into an abyss below!) And shortly thereafter, we noticed white scratches appearing all over the surface of the floor?and we had not even moved anything into the area yet! The scratches were actually in the surface, you could run your fingernail across and feel it catch in the groove?not like a ?black heel mark? that can be polished off. I had resigned myself to deal with the bounce-house effect, but the scratching was unacceptable. One day, I noted the plastic wheels on my vacuum cleaner were scratching the surface! We reported these findings to THI and to my surprise and relief (we, afterall felt somewhat responsible for selecting the product), THI supported us completely. The representative of the product (US Floors, Chris Bullana) however, was not supportive at all, suggesting a little polish could be applied that would remove (hide) the scratches. THI was the star on this one, and is currently working with suppliers and installers to replace our floor with a REAL hardwood product, nailed down and finished the old fashioned way?in situ. With the onset of cold weather, I?ve even noticed the bamboo planks have separated, leaving huge gaps in the joints between planks. Beware the bamboo stuff folks, it is the most ridiculous flooring material I?ve ever seen. Looks great, but forget about walking on it. THI uses many sub-contractors, and overall, I?d grade them as follows: Roofers: C. Roof Railing: B-. Mechanical Contractor, Electricians, Exterior Painter, Framers, Drywall, Concrete and Mason work: A. But the all-time stars of our entire project were Steve Wauzin and George Freeman, THI?s expert trim/finish contractors. Their attention to detail, pride in their work, vast experience in the trade, and professionalism made this project. Those two never stop. They don?t eat lunch and I often worried they?d fall out from exhaustion. They get a gold star AND an A+ and a huge thank you for spending the summer with us! THI as a GC could and should improve their project management. Contractors show up when they are told and do what they were told. But sometimes the lines of communication failed between them and the Project Manager. No shows over a weekend, required reminders to clean up the site, common sense precautions that could have easily been set in place, and lots of ?do-overs? that should have been prevented and would have saved them time and money. It is frustrating and a huge imposition to undergo a project of this nature; these mistakes are sloppy and careless and can easily be prevented. Tighten up! :-) The end product is fabulous. I will definitely consider THI again; we are already mulling over future projects, and trust me, ?this old house? has many!
Description of Work: 100 year old home. Total remodel of rear screened porch, kitchen, laundry room and bathroom. Demolished existing screened porch and built enclosed four-season room with coat closet and foyer. Demoed kitchen, laundry and bathroom down to studs. Totally changed kitchen footprint. Added a walk-in pantry. Roof over kitchen was a four-sided hipped roof where one of the hips slanted directly down into a main wall of the house. The existing valley trough was original tin but had been patched multiple times and was currently leaking into the downstairs bathroom in a hard rain. We theorized that water was rising in the trough high enough to overflow the trough and shingles and pouring into the bathroom ceiling. The solution was to extend two sides of the hip to terminate directly into the main wall of the house (we were after permanent fixes, not quick ones). This resulted in removing a full double-hung window in the upstairs bathroom, which was replaced with a smaller awning style window. It also took out a full double-hung window in a guest bedroom which was turned into a small attic door that now allows access into what used to be a dead area in a huge attic above the kitchen.

Everything went fine. Cost estimate was in the ballpark of others, but all three estimates received seemed much higher than what I think it should be. May have to come to grips soon or do it my self. So, expect to bite the bullet soon and select one of the three. This man was on time, did a good review with me and got back with an estimate within 2-3 days. Overall, he was very professional and I believe he would do a very fine job.

The job was small and to find a contractor proved difficult. The first two I contacted did not bother to come by, I did send them photos of the missing siding. I assume they did not respond because of the size of the job. I contacted via Angies List, Total Home Improvements and they responded shortly by phone and came by for an estimate and job inspection. Our job was fitted in between the holidays and the work was done quickly and efficiently. Cost included material and labor as estimated.
Description of Work: Replaced missing fascia (siding) on front of our home.
