The best way to rate a company is if you will use them again or recommend them to others. I have been a home owner for 20 years and a landlord for 10. I have never been more frustrated and at times angry working with another repair company. I will NEVER use this company again or recommend them to others. The communication within the company and the different departments is horrible. Communication to us as the home owners was extremely bad. They moved my start date from December 1 to December 19th without any conversations with us. We found out during a flip comment during the walk through on November 28th. They left my home with utility covers off and wires hanging throughout the Christmas holiday. The trash from the old sink, countertops, rotten wood was left on the side of my home throughout Christmas from December 19th through January 4th. I was disappointed with the communication and with the way they would show up whenever they could "fit" me in from work they were doing on other jobs. The first day a team of two sat in my driveway for over an hour waiting for the foreman. It's clear they thought my work was a joke and it showed. My poor husband had to deal with my anger about trying to cook Christmas dinner for company with plugs just hanging out from the backslash. I found out later the only thing they needed were longer screws. Sure wish they said just one thing to me about how they are sorry the work was not done before Christmas, but is there anything we can do to make it livable until they can return. They left my kitchen this way from December 20 until January 3rd. They made my holidays so stressful with not knowing when they were coming by or when work would be completed. We had one person work with us to pick out our selections, but never tell the workers what was chosen, we had to get invoicing from one person and pay another. My husband would call with a question and they would call me back instead. Felt very unorganized. Work estimate was changed during a work through from "points up" skimming to needing a more extensive skim job, but it was not addressed until 3 days after the work started. The walk through was on November 28 and it was only addressed with us 3 days into the job on December 21 adding 1300 dollars and another 3 days of work. We just canceled that part of the job. I could not wait until this job was done and I hope to never deal with a company like this again. They didn't care about this job and it just made me angry. I don't feel 7400 is a small job to me, but they clearly didn't think it was worth their time.

Response from Total Home Improvements
In response to this review, please read the following: The start date, for each job, is communicated with each homeowner when they are called in order to schedule a preconstruction meeting, and furthermore, it was acknowledged by the homeowner that is was conveyed at the preconstruction meeting ( they called it a walkthru). At no time was it conveyed to THI that the start date was an issue. Scheduling work for a large remodeling firm is of utmost importance, however, unforseen problems arise elsewhere, that lead to a delay on other projects, but that is not the norm. It will happen from time to time that workers will arrive on a jobsite before the Project Manager and they have been instructed to wait for instruction from them. We are sorry to hear that a trash pile was left for too long, and we will work to better ourselves in this matter. All selections that are made by a homeowner are put in to the job file at the office. Some specific items may be conveyed to the Project Managers but all Project Managers have access to the files to confirm all of the selections that pertain to their jobs. The "pointing up" work was an issue that was brought up with the homeowners at the Sales portion of the process. It was explained to the homeowners that the pointing up of the walls may not be the best solution for the end result. The repairs were to be made on a wall that was previously painted and looked awful. It was explained that maybe an entire skim coat of the area would give a better end result, but the homeowners chose not to go that route. At the preconstruction meeting and then again once the work started, it was brought up by the production staff that skim coating would indeed give a better end result, but were willing to move forward with the contracted work. It was determined by THI to get a price to the homeowner to perform the skim coating, to give them the last option, before performing the contracted work. They declined the $1300 change order and asked for all repairs and painting to be deleted from the contract. THI agreed to that. THI will do a job as small as $250 all the way to 6 figure jobs. THI values everyone of our customers and strive to offer the same quality service to each and every customer. We are sorry to learn of their displeasure for our process. We do value homeowners input and use it to continually improve our service and quality to our customers.

I had this company give me an estimate for installing a sliding glass door. They wanted over $4000 to replace typical 6ft door. I had the same job done for $350 labor. This is probably the result of the contractor seeing that I live on the water and trying to jack the price up. Will not be considering this company again.

Mr. [Member Name Removed] did have us come out and give him an estimate for replacing the sliding glass door in the bedroom of the 2nd floor. Mr. [Member Name Removed] asked for, and was giving 2 "ball park" prices for replacing it. The first was for a "standard door" and the price was based on 2 men for 1 day's labor and a door valued at $700.00 (our cost) which came out to $2,278.00. The second was for an Inovo door valued at $1850.00 (our cost) same labor, which came out to $4,233.00. Both prices included supplying the door, floor protection, demo, installation, clean up and warranty. I believe this pricing to not only be fair but also competitive with other companies that not only do the work, but also provide reliable customer service (warranties) after job completion.

Project was carefully evaluated, a cost estimate and time frame was provided. Pros came on time, cut the window out and replaced with the new one without any damage to existing outside dryvit or inside trim or drywall. Custom PVC trim was used to seal the outside. Absolutely beautiful. Job was completed faster than anticipated. Total Home Improvement will be the company that I use for any future home repair. Can't ask for a more courteous staff or professional company.

Have never had a problem we could not work through. From pending hurricanes to subcontractors not showing up. Total was always there for me in the end. If something went wrong I TRUSTED them to go and fix it even if I was not home. Would recommend Gene Firth to anyone, there is not a better more hones contractor around.
Description of Work: THI has done a bunch of work for me. They have done an addition to my house, added an outdoor kitchen, random repairs, replaced windows and much more. The first couple of times I contacted several companies to get quotes. THI was always very reasonable and I went with them. The work was always great and the best part is the ownership stands behind the work if there is an issue.

After having a good experience with THI on my exterior work five years ago, I've always gone back to them to have other projects done. My experience with this company has been very positive. The employees of THI are very courteous and professional. They come on time and with a positive attitude. The project managers that I worked with (I had the same person for two of my jobs and a different person for this latest huge remodel) were very knowledgeable of every aspect of the job. They both did a good job scheduling all of the trades workers and keeping everything moving forward. They both communicated very well with me and I always knew exactly who was coming, what they were coming to do, and when they would be there. Did everything go exactly on schedule - well no. I added several changes to the job, including gutting and redoing another bathroom at the last minute. So we had to adjust time frames and expectations. When we had a delay in the cabinet installation, due to my decision to rip out old plaster and replace with new drywall, Greg, the project manager worked swiftly and deliberately to catch us back up so we could finish as projected. THI uses good sub contractors. The floor, tile, electrical, and plumbing guys rocked. They use small companies so there isn't a crew coming into your home. The tile installer works alone. The electrical company has two employees so the same two come every time and get to know your home electrical system well. Same with the plumbers and floor installers. I like that about THI. Sure it isn't as fast sometimes as if a crew is sent in, but these trades people were truly professional, treating my house like their own. I believe they did a better job than a bigger company would, and had more pride in their work. To be honest, the owner of the dry wall company they used for my job was a bit rude, but Total Home Improvements quickly remedied that issue once I let them know. All of the other sub-contractors were so very nice and professional and respectful. I feel very fortunate to have met these fine craftsmen. My experience with the sales representatives has also been very positive. I used the same sales rep for two of my projects and he partnered with another sales rep on the major interior renovation they just finished. They worked with me on the design and we made adjustments along the way. I do not have any experience with the painters, however. i have a painter that I have used for years (also works alone) so I opted to have him do the painting for my job. Anyway, I am happy with all the choices I made throughout this renovation and with the work that Total Home Improvements did themselves or had done to make this reno happen. It was complicated, removing walls and installing engineered beams, etc. I worked at home throughout the whole reno, so I basically set up in one room. My advice to anyone considering a renovation is to be very clear in what you want to have done and be very specific in your contract and understand the allowances, etc. in your contract and make adjustments if you need to. I marked mine up on a word document so I could be absolutely sure we were on the same page. It took several revisions before we finalized the contract. Also be realistic with your expectations and understand that there will be puts and takes along the way. Material gets delayed; you make a change and things have to be redone. Be patient and keep in constant contact with your project manager. Understand that these people are human too. The project manager may have a dozen jobs at any given time. My tape measure broke the other day so I guess their work is done! But if I have any other home improvements I have Total Home Improvements on my speed dial. Seriously, it got frustrating at times - it was a 6 month major renovation after all. But any frustration on my part was situational and the project manager was experiencing the same frustration. Together we worked through any issues or decisions as they arose. After the job was complete i'd say it was done pretty close to perfectly. I have an old house and there's only so much you can do with an old house. In my opinion Total Home Improvements did as much as could be done to maximize the footprint of my house, updating it from its 1970's look while maintaining the character of the home. Thanks for reading my review. I wish you luck in your home projects.
Description of Work: I've used Total Home Improvements for three major projects: 1) Exterior siding, roof, windows, doors, sun porch addition; 2) Installation of privacy fence and patio; and most recently,3) Interior remodel; install new bathroom, remodel from studs two other bathrooms; new bedroom; remove walls and open living space and open sun porch to living space, new kitchen from studs; remove carpet and finish hard wood floors throughout house; expand laundry area and build cabinets; ceramic tile, new lighting in kitchen, bathrooms, living area.

I just want to say that this was not the first project that we had this company do. Our first project was my home and it was a total gut job and they were absolutely marvelous. On this new job there was a basement on this home and the only way to access tit was to go outside the side door and go down some cinder block stairs. The house had only 2 bedrooms and the only way that we could have entry to the basement was to add an addition and put the stairs inside the home. The job was a massive undertaking and the workers were knowledgeable and proficient in their areas of expertise. They were professional all the time. The lead foreman Doug was excellent. He was on the case and he spoke with me every day to let me know what was going to be done and who was going to be at the house. I wish there was some way to show you the before and after pictures of this home because the transformation is nothing short of astonishing. All of the staff at this company is a joy to work with and I would recommend them in a heart beat. As a matter of fact before the guys left today I informed them that I will be using them again very shortly for another project. They were open and up front about cost and were able to save me on may parts of the project without compromising the quality of the materials that they used. And I must say there is absolutely no shortage of quality of the material that they used. I can't thank them enough or give them a better review than what I have said. Once again thank you THI and I look forward to using your company again.

Disappointed with the service, once the contract was written never heard from the salesman once the job began, even though I requested several meetings. The only time I received a callback was when I told them I was going to share the poor experience on Angies list. The job began with costing me an additional $300 because they started the job when I was in the hospital and did not put in a new floor as discussed with Ben. I was charged the additional money because of their mistake. Doug, our job foreman did a good job, he was attentive and did his best to make sure the sub contractors did what they were supposed to do. The plumbers and tile team did a good job. The electricians wanted to charge an additional $250 for a junction box and their work was not the best. The framers did sloppy work, the bathroom is definitely not square and plumb, you can tell with how the tile on the shower had to be laid. The sheet rock team did such a sloppy job that I had piles of sheet rock dust, that by the way I had tomsand myself! Know that this job cost $14,000 for a total of 65 square feet for both rooms, We had to pay for everything else, the tile, toilet, sink, all fixture, the shower door, everything! Make sure you know what you are responsible for before signing with this company. Every time I turned around I had to pay for something else, very disappointed. At the end of the contract, after threatening that I would give them a fair rating on Angies list and it would not be complimentary, finally Ben and another person came to my house to find out what my concerns were, a little too late. Also this job took almost 3.5 months. The sad thing is, we have two other rooms that we need remodeled, another bathroom and a whole new kitchen. We would have used this company had they done a good job and would have been more professional and done a better job.

Response from Total Home Improvements
It is always Total Home Improvements goal to provide a seamless stressfree project for all of our homeowners. That being said, we know that we are not able to satisfy 100% of our customers, no matter how hard we try. In regards to the additional charge of $300 for subfloor removal, the subfloor was to be torn up by the homeowners but unfortunately he was unable to perform this task prior to him going to the hospital. We did, as we always do, gave him a price prior to performing the work, allowing him the opportunity to decline. He signed the change [Member Information Removed] authorizing us to proceed. We installed wall framing in an existing area, where demolition had occured prior to start of our work, to create a shower and a laundry room. Some of the existing framing in this area was crooked and bowed. In many cases for our homeowners, we give them the opportunity to supply some of their own material in an effort to keep the cost of their project closer to their budget. On this particular job there are no less than 11 lines of the work [Member Information Removed] that clearly [Member Information Removed] "homeowner supplied". The shower door is also listed on the work [Member Information Removed] as "THI will arrange install for the shower door and homeowner pays directly to installer";. In almost every situation like this, the homeowner uses our shower door installer, and that is explained to the homeowner during the sales process. We do this in [Member Information Removed] to give the homeowner a quality shower door but also to help keep their cost down. In this case, the homeowner decided to purchase a shower door from a local supplier and asked us to install it. In this case we had to charge them, and they agreed to the additional cost. The Production Manager was asked, a couple of times, to come out to look at the project to see if he felt the homeowner was being overcharged. It was explained to the homeowner that the Production Manager does not assess costs of projects and would not come out for that reason. If the workmanship was in question, that would be a different situation. As with all of our projects, a final walkthru is scheduled with the Homeowner, Salesman, Production Coordinator and Project Manager (Foreman). During this meeting, any items that the homeowner feels need to be fixed or replaced, are identified and listed on our walkthru sheet. A few items were identified and the Production Coordinator assured the homeowner that we would come out to fix those issues, but the homeowner said no, not to come back out. He did not want us back to his house at all. THI has been in business for over 25 years and has a reputation for doing quality, timely work.

This work, which took about a week and a half, was thoroughly professional all the way through. From the first day the workers were on time, the work was performed well, and they left the house clean each day. They took care to keep me informed of their progress and were ready to answer all of my questions and concerns. I am certainly pleased with the work they did and will be using them again for future jobs. These are people who can be trusted to do the job right.
Description of Work: I had water intruding around a window. Total Home Improvements removed a section of drywall, repaired the damage inside the wall, and installed a new drywall section. They inspected the roof and added a section of flashing to prevent future damage. They also did some interior painting and also repaired a small section of rotten wood that was discovered on the exterior.

Needed an estimate of installing three bathroom ceiling fans. After initial call, had Total Representative came out once and gave me an estimate of $350 for two bathroom ceiling fans. I called the representative, he came back and did another estimate, which came to $2200 for three bathroom ceiling fans. Trouble was, how do you go from $350 to $2200 when the representative told me it's an easy job? Representaive claimed Total would need to hire an electrician, who would have to go through my attic and check the wiring. I kindly escorted him out of my house and called an electrician, who performed the services for......$144.38, which was $2,055.62 less than the Total Representative's estimate. I'll never call Total again. Seems to me Total tried to take me as a fool.

We contracted Total Home Improvement for a new roof, siding/trim, and front door for our home. They were told that if we liked their work, we had lots of other repairs to complete as money became available. We were hoping to get the work done in October; however, they put in the contract that work would be performed between December 15 and December 31. Total did get a non-English speaking crew to replace the roof at the beginning of the contract period. No one showed up until January to do the siding/trim or door. The office did call asking for final payment just after New Year?s, before they showed up to do the work. The siding crew did not replace the siding in the front porch in the same manner as it was to start with. This left a corner piece stopping ~4? short of the ceiling. Being right next to the door made it obviously look unfinished. When we pointed this out to the foreman, he argued back that this is how it?s always done, and it would cost us more to re-do it another way. We felt this was totally unacceptable, as it looked fine the way it was before they replaced it. In addition, the door they installed was not the colors we ordered. We ordered a door with mahogany on the inside and charcoal on the outside. The installed door is a very light mahogany inside and a dark brown outside. To us and everyone we know, charcoal is a shade of gray. The salesman had manufacturer color samples of everything, except for the door company. We did look over their colors online and in their printed brochure, and charcoal looked gray, not brown. The label on the door did indicate charcoal. After telling the foreman (all conversations with him were by phone) that we were not satisfied and are withholding final payment until these issues were resolved, nor would we be using them for future work, he said there was nothing else they would do for us. The following week, suspiciously just after when I would expect a weekly status meeting with the company owners, we got a call back saying they wanted to make us satisfied. A couple days later, the foreman called and said he finally came by the house and saw what we were complaining about. Really? All that other arguing with us and he hadn?t even looked at the siding and door, or the photo?s we sent them? They also finally contacted the door manufacturer and got color samples. The siding crew was sent back to fix the siding. The door company does think that charcoal is a shade of brown, but Total sent a painter out to paint the door charcoal, at the end of March. Make sure that the salesman has manufacturer color samples for everything, regardless of who you contract with. We are now preparing to get bids from other companies for more work on our home.

The price was great, but the quality of the work was variable from excellent to just acceptable. After they finished, the only way I could tell that work had been done, was that the new siding was cleaner than the rest of my home! I'm glad that I was able to be at home for much of the work, because the unskilled laborers could have used more supervision: for example, they were tossing bricks directly into my unprotected lawn after their dumpster didn't show up on time. There were portions of the roof that they walked on without protecting it with plywood. The trades seemed to know their stuff, but portions of the new sheathing had to be caulked to fill a 1" gap at the gable top due to sloppy workmanship. They fixed all of the shortcomings that I identified in a timely manner. I saved $3k compared to another bidder, and feel that they did a very good job. I would definitely hire them again.

Too many details to explain, but you should not have to watch and stay on the company to do what is right. Several meetings and heated conversations with the owner of the company just to get what was agreed upon and to get fixes after the completion. Weaseled out of some fixes, I just got tired of trying to get what was right. Changed and fixed some items myself rather than have to put up with them again.

Everyone, and I mean every single individual, was great. They were professional, kind, courteous, and did an excellent job. My kitchen turned out absolutely beautiful, and I am completely happy with everything. Joe, Total Home Improvements, took me shopping to select what I wanted and arranged for everything to be done. Sky who was the rep handling my job was great as he was caring, had a keen eye for all the details, and was on top of everything every step of the way. I had granite countertops installed along with glass backsplash, a stainless double sink, and a new kitchen ceiling light. Sky seemed to read my mind as far as knowing what I wanted. Actually, Joe did too. The tile guy, Joe, was the best ever. He was polite, courteous, fast, and a true professional as he did such a perfect job that I could not find one tiny blemish left. I am totally elated with my new kitchen, and I will definitely call Total Home Improvements again and I recommend others call them also.
Description of Work: Total Home Improvements remodeled my kitchen to consist of granite countertop, backsplash, ceiling light, and stainless sink.

I haven't hired them to do the work yet. They said that they couldn't match the handrail style of the undamaged handrail so I am investigating other options before I decide to spend even more money and replace BOTH handrails.
Description of Work: Provided estimate for replacement of exterior stair handrail and replacement of exterior door trim and support pieces.

Everything went great. From the sticker price shock (how low it was), as well as the crews working in the house. The only real improvement would be drop cloths. I was told that they would use them on all our stuff. I came home and my gun safe, Harley and everything else in the garage at the time was covered with dust from the construction work. Weather caused a delay once or twice but other than that, everything was very professional and we love the finished product.
Description of Work: Removed a stairwell, extended a room, installed an attic dropdown, installed a wall partitioning the garage from what is now the formal dining room, walled in a pantry/laundry room (was all part of the garage), encased all central heat and air ducts that were visible.

They exceeded my expectations. In addition to being on time, professional and thorough. In addition, they identified one area which the salesman and I had agreed from looking up at it needed to be replaced, when the workers got up on the ladders they decided it did not need to be replaced and reduced the costs accordingly. In addition, the salesman dropped by a few days later to survey the job and ensure it met his and my expectations. Outstanding customer service
Description of Work: Replaced several parts of siding which had become cracked with hardi plank

Pro : We were pleased with the overall quality of the job. All the workers went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied with the work being performed. Con : The overall job took longer than stated and the workers did not always show up on schedule. Also, there was a lack of coordination and follow up on the selected choices which caused delays
Description of Work: Kitchen and powder room improvements which included priming and painting cabinets, installing granite top on bathroom vanity installing one new water saver commode and painting the ceiling in the kitchen and family room areas.

Great. Worked with us with cost of demolition when we did the work. Prompt communication when weather interrupted work schedule. Quality of work is fabulous. Joe who gave us the price quote was very professional with us and very through. Joseph who ran the crew was very polite and punctual, kept us informed of the construction. Job site was cleaned of all debris. We will us them and recommend them again. Carol was very polite and kind when dealing with her in their office. Made us feel right at home and welcome. We like dealing with local businesses because they seem to care about their customers than regional or nation businesses.
Description of Work: Installed a new deck and poured a 12 X 24 foot patio.

Total Home Improvements did a job that was beyond my expectations. They began the work right away and had the home ready right before my new tenants arrived in the area. The home looked even better than it did before the previous tenants wrecked the house. Total Home Improvements were fast, extremely courteous, trustworthy, kept daily oversight on the work while it was being done, even did a walk thru with me after the job was completed to ensure that I was happy with everything. In addition, when the job was completed, Total Home Improvements gave me a gift card for my membership to Angie's List which I love. I have recommended Total Home Improvements to my neighbors, one of which used Total Home Improvements and called me to say how pleased she was with them and that she would use them again and recommend them to her friends. I will definitely use Total Home Improvements again.
Description of Work: I was in a big hurry to have my rental home repaired due to the previous tenants totally destroying the home. Total Home Improvement came and gave me my estimate and were able to start the job immediately and had the job completed a day or so before my new tenants arrived. It was a big job to include putting new walls in the kitchen/dining area, replacing broken glass window panes, replacing window screens, replacing back storm door, repairing electrical outlets, painting, repairing and replacing room doors, reglazing the kitchen sink, and other repairs that I can not remember.
