Unfortunately this review gives no reasons for the C rating. On 4/8/2015 our office manager talked to Mrs [Removed Member Name] after our work had been completed. Mrs [Removed Member Name] expressed satisfaction with our work and provided final payment. Since reading this review I have left multiple messages with Mr [Removed Member Name] on both his work and home phone in an effort to find the reason for the C rated. He has yet to return any of these calls. Greg Moxley, Owner

There was a misunderstanding about painting the shoe molding and Gregg's office noticed the mistake and initiated a reduction in my bill. The repairman who came to my house was a little late but he called me ahead of time to let me know. He was very friendly and courteous. I have more work that needs to be done and I will be considering Done Right to do that work.
Description of Work: I had new shoe molding installed in my bathroom to stop a water leakage down into my kitchen and had a toilet replaced. I was provided a free estimate with multiple options depending on the work I decided to get done.

The house is an investment property 3 hours from where I live. I was between tenants, in July 2009. The original owners had habitually done bandaid first aid when major surgery was needed in the overall maintenance of the house. So every time we visited the house, we saw a whole new set of repairs that needed to be done. Greg Moxley met me at the house and we reviewed what needed to be done in the bathroom; then walked throughout the house and talked about other things I was concerned about. I asked him to be a second set of eyes, and let me know if he saw anything that needed attention. Over the next 6-8 weeks Greg had a variety of teams in the house. He employees a wide range of contractors and told me he has a truck they have built out with shelves of drawers, where they carry an enormous inventory, so they don't have to be constantly running to buy parts. The guy doing the ceramic tile work in the bathroom had family problems and disappeared from the job. Greg found someone else to come in to finish it. Between the two of them, it was a good job. In the mean time, there were all kinds of odd jobs I was asking him to do. And occasionally, Greg would make suggestions of what he saw that needed work. He was always cost-conscience in his suggestions and he gave me options when ever possible. By the time it was all done, the house had all the ceiling lights replaced; many of the electrical outlets were replaced; all the bedrooms and kitchen had been painted; a flagstone path was laid from the drive to the front stoop; shrubs were clipped; and I can't remember what else. Visiting a year later, I noticed the paint in the bathroom was 'flat' and not a semi-gloss. I never called Greg to tell him. That is the only negative of the whole job. Greg Moxley and Done Right Home Repair is my 'go to handyman' for Newport News.
Description of Work: RENOVATED bathroom; replaced cracked plastic tub surround with ceramic tile; replaced toilet & vanity. Painted bathroom & several other rooms in house. Laid a flagstone path from drive to front stoop. The house was built in 1950's and the plumbing is galavanized metal pipes, which made the job a bit trickier. There were many other 'odd jobs' done, but I cannot remember them

The people from Done Right Home Repair had two accidents. They came to repair a leak but, they fixed it the same way. The same leak occurred after I had all the walls repaired after 2 weeks. They should not be doing plumbing. When I went to talk to them about the problem, the person there asked as what I did. When I woke at 5am, the water from bathroom was leaking down into the living room. I heard good reports about them but their plumbing was a disaster. They are probably good in the other fields but not in plumbing. The owner told my husband that he had informed me beforehand that he was not a licensed plumber. He put the blame on me and that upset me. I was the damaged party here and I would not knowingly hire an unlicensed plumber. I informed my insurance company and they sent people to clean out the water. This person said he will fix everything but he did not, so I was happy that I called out my insurance company. He seems to be a nice guy but plumbing is not his work.

Response from Done Right Home Repair
When very first contacted by this customer the very first question asked was "Are you a licensed plumber?" Of course I answered no. The member explained that her husband had tried to connect her new sink faucets on heir newly installed granite sink tops but that he could not quite figure out how to do it due to the thickness of the new tops. Since the job being requested was changing faucets I explained that you do not have to be a licensed plumber to change a faucet. I further explained that our favorable (low) handyman labor rates and overall knowledge of home repair might make us the best choice for any and all work on the house. We were then chosen to do the job. I believe we went well out of the way on this job to include going shopping with the customer when it turned out the faucets provided by the customer were the wrong type. We made approximately 40 water connections installing 4 brand new faucets through brand new counter tops. It is true that the house experienced two leaks. The first leak was remedied by one of our technicians. Over one week later, a second leak occurred in the upstairs bathroom that had a double sink vanity; this leak occurred over a Friday night. Upon getting the call Saturday morning concerning the leak, myself and our lead technician (who installed the faucets) went immediately to the customers house. We saw very little damage and were more than willing to repair it at our cost. What we saw that morning was a little stain on the ceiling in dining room and some dampness on the carpet. However, the customer had already, earlier the same morning, called in a local restoration company. That company proceeded to tear out walls, ceilings and floors. The bill came to $14,000, I know because my insurance company paid that restoration company for that service. I have seen and repaired many plumbing leaks in houses. And I can confidently say that a one time short duration leak like the one that occurred in this house could easily have been fixed with a little drying and some painting. I give this same advise to customers all the time when they are faced with a similar situation. It is unfortunately that the leak occurred; with plumbing you do sometimes get a leak. We have changed out hundreds of sinks, garbage disposals, toilets, etc. We are confident in this area and stand behind our work. In fact, on that Saturday morning, in what I still consider to be something very odd in all of this, the customer asked us to redo the water supply connection on the other sink in the bathroom, He was concerned that we had used a incorrect part to extend the supply lines through the thick granite top. We assured him that we had used the correct part and that if we were to redo the connections we would use the same part. And yet he did request we redo those connections; which we did. We came back on Monday of the next week and re-accomplished our supply connections on both sinks in that bathroom in the exact way we had accomplished them originally; we used the exact same type extensions for the connectors. This (and the fact that this started as an original DIY job that need professional help) is what led us to ask the customer if they had tampered with our original work. That is the reference being made in the member's post when the member writes: "the person there asked as what I did". The member mentioned that he was going to get a licensed plumber to check our work, and in particular if we used the correct part to extend the supply line through the sink top. We invited him to do so, because we are confident that what we did was Done Right. You can read other Angies List review and hear good things about out technical competence in minor plumbing such as faucet installations. In closing, no where on any advertisement of ours, and we do a lot of advertising, does it say we are licensed plumbers. No where on any of our correspondence ever produced, to included estimates, contracts, invoices, letterhead, or emails does it say we are licensed plumbers. We are registered with the DPOR and BBB, which are two excellent sources to find out what license a contractor carries. The customers making this complaint are two intelligent and professional people. Telephone, computer and internet access are at their finger tips. In their very first phone call to us they asked if we were licensed plumbers; I took that call and replied as described above. Their recollection, or lack thereof, of that phone particular part of the conversation falls squarely on them. I know what was asked and what the answer was. The insurance claim they made hurt our company tremendously. The claim itself, in our view, was completely avoidable and unnecessary. The post made to Angie's List concerning our ability to do light plumbing is purely their opinion based on one situation that did not go well.

I found them through a BBB listing. We didn't have to interact with them. We didn't need to be here when they came out. They dropped off a quote. I never interacted face-to-face with them. I just spoke with them over the phone and reviewed their quote. They were punctual and efficient in getting us the quote. I would recommend using them for a quote.

He came out on time and gave a very professional summary of what should be done and gave me an estimate. He had to do one change order upon actually getting into the job because the beams were not known to be rotted at time of estimate. The change order of $200 additonal was reasonable, given the damage, The renters had sickness in the family near the end of the job and had to leave and Greg worked with them and came out later to do the finishing touches after they returned. All in all a very good job and I would recommend them.
Description of Work: New floor in bathroom which had soft spots when you walked on it. Greg and his crew removed the rotten wood and replaced the beams, etc. Installed new plywood as a base and new underlayment luan plywood on top of that to form a smooth base for laying new vinyl floor covering. He also had to remove the lavatory cabinet and reiinstall as well as the commode. He rebuilt the tanks' valve system while it was out. The finishing with new trim re-installed was very professional.

They did a great job, though I had to do a little prompting. Toilet was installed with a 1/3" gap under front due to uneven concrete flooring (original construction of house.) I would have thought they would have recognized that's not acceptable. Nonetheless, when I pointed it out they were very responsive and shimmed and caulked the gap. Price was great and professionalism beyond reproach. Highly recommended!

The workmanship was excellent! The wainscoting in the entryway/hallway and up the first floor staircase totally changed the look of the house. The same thing can be said about the beadboard in the bath. Greg Moxley is the owner, and he came out twice, once alone and once with the lead carpenter, before he even gave me an estimate. He really listened to exactly what I wanted and we spent a lot of time talking about the details. I was so impressed with these meetings and his attention to detail that I decided to use his company after I received what I thought was a very fair estimate. Once the job started, not only did JR, the lead carpenter, do an absolutely fantastic job, but he did so in a very professional matter. The job took approximately two weeks to complete, and my house was left absolutely spotless every day. I cannot say enough about the respect that this company showed to me and my property. I also appreciated that the company was very flexible. They installed the initial wainscoting and bead board, and then returned to finish the job by installing all the new bath fixtures in the powder room and shoe moulding around the new baseboard after the newly installed carpentry work and bathroom were painted by another company. They really helped me to coordinate their work with the painters, which made the whole rennovation go very smoothly.
Description of Work: Carpentry Work: Installed wainscoting in first floor front entryway and hallway. Installed beadboard in first floor powder room. Installed decorative trim on first and second floor staircase risers and around baseboard lining third floor staircase. Installed new front door. Bathroom: Totally renovated first floor powder room by installing new toilet, new sink, new mirror and a new light fixture.
