Root Electric

Bill Root III came out and provided us an estimate on the work requested. Bill was excellent and very patient with all the questions I had (given that my knowledge of electrical work is almost none). Bill was also readily available and very patient and helpful with a few follow-up calls/emails I had regarding the estimate and some additional work I wanted to have done. The estimate provided was excellent and thorough, breaking down each item being done, and all the parts/labor that would be needed for that particular job. The price provided was excellent. Root Electric did an outstanding job coordinating the work being done with NOVEC and the County Inspectors office. All of the work, the inspection, and having the main power turned off/on was all done the same day. On the day of the work, the Root Electric technicians showed up promptly. The 2 Root Electric technicians worked quickly, worked hard, and were very courteous, professional, knowledgeable and answered any questions I had while they performed their work. There were NO issues with their work when the County Inspector came and reviewed everything. When Root Electric left, they made sure everything was cleaned up and put back in place. They tested all the connections on the new electrical panel, and went over each item performed to show me how everything worked and answered any questions I had. Id definitely recommend this company, and will definitely be using them in the future.

Repairs needed to be made quickly in order to close on the sale of my home. This was no problem. Brian Wilkerson was the electrician; he was neat and professional and explained what he was doing. The whole process went very smoothly.

Bryan showed up on time, removed all of the old fixtures, installed the new fixtures, and added a timer. He was courteous, neat, and he completed the work in a timely manner. We were very pleased with the job.

Great. Brian was down to earth and up front. Only performed necessary work, no pressure at all. Really felt comfortable working with them. Arrived right on time, even sent me a gmail invite in advance to mark my calendar. Stayed within 10% of emailed estimate. Gave me tons of options including equally effective lesser cost options. Will definitely use again and highly recommend.

Mr Root, arrived on time. He was very professional, friendly, and patient. He explained in detail and in a way in which I would understand everything he was doing. He also discovered that the original work was probably not wired up correctly, and that is why the outlet shorted out and melted the plastic and some of the wires had burned. So now all is well. I will definitely call Mr Root again, if and when any electrical problems occur. I definitely made the right decision in contacting him to do the repairs.

Bill Sr. was responsive from the first call and provided me his email and cell phone number for ease of communication. He was very pleasant to deal with over the phone and agreed to come over in the evening, as that was the only time I was available on that particular day. He did an outstanding job repairing some melted wires connecting my oven to power and put a new cover on the junction box, making the whole area safer and much neater than before. While he was at the house he agreed to take a look at a ceiling fan that had not been used in about a year and a half because it seemed to speed up and slow down on its own and I was reluctant to use it. As it turned out it was only the controller on the wall that needed to be replaced vice the entire fan, and Bill fixed that quickly and the fan is now working again as new. On top of all of that, Bill was just a really nice guy and someone I felt completely comfortably having in my home. Root Electric is a good family business that cares about its customers. You will not regret calling them!

The service was very good - just as the last time I hired Root Electric. This is the kind of company I remember from years past, growing up in a small town, the kind of company you don't hesitate to call because you can trust them to be honest and fair and also to do things correctly, the first time. Many companies in DC do not meet this standard, unfortunately. The electrician came on time, did what was promised, and stayed on budget. The electrician, Brian, made time to take care of my problematic recessed lights even though that was not in the original work plan. They needed minor adjustment and he didn't charge for it, when others would have added extra charges. The electrician also corrected an error made by a prior electrician...not hooking my fan up to the vent in the ceiling above. He explained everything he was doing. He gave me a detailed estimate for future work in my kitchen, where I am planning some renovation, and explained all the options I would have for improved lighting and relocating cables (for TV/internet). The advice was very helpful and educational for me as a homeowner. This company is willing to give you a free estimate and let you make your decision without a "high pressure sales pitch." I have only good things to say about Root Electric and I will hire them again for any electrical needs.

Folks, this is our very first review . . . EVER. Honestly. First review on Angie's List. First review anywhere. Over many years we've researched and reviewed on Angie's List, Amazon, Consumer Reports, Consumers Digest, Edmunds, Lowes, Home Depot, Consumers' CHECKBOOK, Yelp, CNET, Healthgrades, TripAdvisor... You name it. When we're in the market for a new or used purchase, labor, doctor, vacation, etc., my family has ALWAYS researched the crap out of stuff. Sometimes to our own detriment of never pulling the trigger. Unfortunately, we can also honestly say that we've been lazy and have never written a follow-up review on any experience, positive or negative. Until now. We've used Root Electric on two separate occasions. The first job was approximately 3 years ago at our recently purchased home in Woodbridge, VA. Our family had just moved from Seattle and we were doing numerous major projects in the home to make it "ours." The job for Root Electric involved multiple new boxes in our kitchen ceiling where I had removed an old kitchen soffit. The job required running new electric line throughout the kitchen, new outlets, etc. Back then, we remember how enjoyable that experience was. But we didn't write anything about the experience on Angie's List. Fast forward 3 years, and on November 3rd of this year, we decided to call Root Electric for another job. Slightly smaller job. Nonetheless, we never felt the urge to re-research companies to do the job. We simply decided, "Call Bill Root." This job required new recessed lighting in our laundry room, running electric lines throughout our basement and snaking them to a new wall sconce and new outlet. Root Electric worked to avoid major damage to the drywall. What set this experience apart from ALL other jobs over the years, and ALL other purchases, was this . . . This smaller job had one minor mistake. One we believe truly never happens. The Root Electric electrician had not measured properly and goofed on the distance apart from existing recessed lighting. The way in which he responded was genuine: "I can't believe it. I NEVER do that. I'm so sorry. We'll fix this." Then, over the course of the next week or so, Bill Root himself came to our house on multiple, quick visits to redo the job, new drywall patchwork, mudding, sanding, etc. In addition, WE HAD THE NERVE to ask if Bill was willing to adjust the height of the wall sconce. We felt our previous decision on the height was not correct. So, the height of the wall sconce was exactly where we had intended it to be. However, we now felt it was too low. So, on the return trips to our home by Root Electric, not only did they proceed to fix their minor mistake, they also "fixed" the height of the wall sconce on account of our asking. By the time it was finished, it looked great. We even felt that it was necessary to ask, "Do we owe you more money?" That's how we truly felt about the situation! The fact that Root Electric made multiple quick trips to complete the job to perfection, and without fail, we honestly felt obligated to "reciprocate" what we now felt was a major favor by Root Electric. In short, we paid nothing additional. The job was ultimately completed to our satisfaction. Again, just like 3 years ago. Incredible. Every single visit by Bill Root or one of his employees, now and 3 years ago, was very pleasant, extremely professional, and, quite simply, genuinely NICE. We highly recommend Root Electric. Bryan was very punctual. I showed him everything to be done and he went right to work. He changed 10 outlets, managed to remove a bulb that was stuck in a fixture, talked me through how to replace the bulbs in a fixture when I could not even get a bulb out to see what kind it was. He was professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful.

I was already having a bathroom and bedroom added to my basement by another contractor, but these additional circuit lines were not included in that project. From the phone call to schedule the estimate to the visit by Bill Root, the experience was very friendly and professional. Bill spent a good amount of his time talking to me about what needed to be done and how it should be done. He, also, spent a good amount of time helping me with some frustrations that I was having with the renovations that were going on. He was very patient with me and explained things very well, so that by the time he left, I had a good understanding of what was going on, why I was having some problems I was having and what needed to be done. In the end, I didn't use Root Electric, only because the contractor I was using for the remodeling had to run a new line to the new bedroom, so we arranged for them to run the lines to the sump pump and sewer ejector at the same time. (I had to use the hired contractor for the bedroom line, because the permit was in his name.) I have used Root Electric in the past and will definitely call them again when I need electrical services. They are very pleasant to work with.

Fabulous. These are top notch professionals. Bill Root worked to create the schematics before install and worked within my budget to ensure I got what I wanted. This was a big job. There were no surprises. I have already contacted them for additional work.

I called two electricians which were advertised on Angie's List. One did not call back. I called Mr. Root for a second time; I have used this electrician in the past and their work was excellent. I will only use Root Electric in the future. He responded immediately explaining there had been a problem with the answering service. He patiently listened to my questions as to whether my smoking, sparking socket and blown fuse waa a safety problem. He stated that the situation was not an immediate fire hazard as the fuse was blown and then offered to see me that day. He arrived promptly that afternoon and fixed the socket and checked the fuse box in about 20 minutes. He was pleasant and personable throughout the experience.

Bill Root came to my house and provided guidance, a recommendation and quote to install a new service to my barn over 400 ft from my house. In addition to his quote, Bill co-ordinated with NOVEC to install telephone poles and bring power to the meter. The technicians that performed the work were prompt, professional and extremely loyal to their employer. I highly recommend Root Elec. and will certainly use them for further electrical needs.

They did several projects for us. I like the fact that I could get a hold of them. They came out, gave the estimate, did the work and it was fine. They were a little pricey but they did what I wanted them to do and I was happy with the work.

I could not be more pleased and impressed with how this vendor assisted me in figuring out my electrical issues with my lampost and garage outlets. Bill Root was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and spent time going over what the cause of my outage is. The vendor and I looked for a GFCI that controlled both outlets. We went throughout the house looking for the GFCI in the usual locations and could not find one that controlled the problem circuit. I finally found the hidden GFCI in an unusual, hidden location and reset the circuit. Bill tested out the outdoor lamp after the circuit was reset. Issue was resolved. Bill charged me nothing for the work done since I found the GFCI. Other companies would have charged me for the services done. I can't express how impressed I am with the electrical services done by Root Electric. I will be using them again for any future electrical problems.

We were replacing an existing outdated exterior outlet with a new outlet. The electrician suggested alternative locations with ended up being better solutions. They were very professional and cheerful even on this bitter cold day! We are so grateful for the quality/finished product!

I received a quote from Mr. Root over the phone. I called back to accept that after the chandelier I bought was delivered to the house. They were able to put me on the schedule for May 27th, which was about a week and half after I accepted the quote. On the day of the appointment, the electricians arrived early. The work didn't take long. The chandelier was installed at the right height, and both three-way switches in that room work now. The two electricians were both courteous. Overall, I was pleased with the work. I have used Root before for electrical work, and I will use them again in the future.

From start to finish, Root Electric personnel communicated with us clearly and were responsive to any and all questions. Bill Root, Jr., came to the house after we called for an estimate, and spent time talking with us about our electrical system. We had some concerns, wanting to be sure our system was both safe and up-to-date. Our house was built in 1975. Bill followed up with a very detailed and itemized estimate, making it easier for us to prioritize which parts of an upgrade we might want to do now and which we could schedule for later. Once we decided, Janice helped us with scheduling dates for the work. A team of two electricians arrived on time, working the first day on changing the fuse box, and the next day on changing all our outlets and switches. They were quiet, professional and seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Root Electric coordinated getting a county permit, the follow-up inspection, and the Dominion Power work that had to be done at the end of the project. Throughout the process, they always kept us informed. We recommend them and will use them in the future for any other electrical work.

Two electricians came out (surprised here), both went right to work replacing the out fixtures with newer ones, as correcting the wiring to the electrical boxes. To place a good quote, the got right to the 'Root' of the issue! Thanks.

Bryan was extremely courteous and professional. He called ahead of time to coordinate meeting at my house and was on time. He worked quickly and efficiently. It was a small job but he was very professional. I would recommend Root Electric and will use them in the future for any other electrical work I need.

Bill Root and Bill Jr. continually knock it out of the park! We've had them do probably $6,000 worth of work on our house in the past 3 years and every time they are professional, friendly, and efficient. Will will continue to hire them as long as we need electrical work done on our house.

The provider called me within the time window agreed to to tell me the expected arrival time. The work was performed quickly and efficiently. I made a mistake in putting the date on my calendar and they were extremely helpful in rescheduling even though the mistake was mine. Would recommend them.
