Root Electric

Although their scheduling system was down, received prompt return call alerting me to their problem and promise to get me scheduled as soon as possible. Owner himself showned up once I was schedule to fixed problem himself. He thanked me for my patiences.

Went great! Came on time, very nice and installed everything perfectly. He even put the fan together for us before he installed it. I will use these guys again for our next few fans and electrical issues/updates. Might be a tad expensive than the other places out there but they do the job right and offer comfort in the service.

My husband and I contacted Root Electric to get an estimate for outdoor security lights and to install a ceiling fan. Bill was very professional and answered all of our questions regarding service. He even made a second trip out to go up in our attic and review some areas where we had concerns. In the end we decided we would not install security lights because we had recently had a fence and alarm system installed. However, we will definitely contact Root again in the future for our electrical needs.

I submitted my request for service online, and within an hour I received a phone call from Root Electric. We set up a date for them to come out and look at what I needed done, and provide an estimate. On that date, Mr. Root showed up right on time, and we discussed what I wanted done. He confirmed what I had thought about my attic fan not working, and recommended that instead of install a new one to have the same fan motor built and orderd. He said it would take longer to get the fan, bu twould be easier to install and cheaper than installing a new one. He then gave me a rough estimate on the all the work before he left. Only had to query them once about the status of the repair, and from then on out they would updated me week about the status of the attic fan that was on order. Once the attic fan was received, they set up a date to come and do all the work. Once again, on that date they were right one time, and conducted all the work quickly and in a very professional manner. I was very impressed with the two guys woh did the work. It was a hot day, and they were stuffed up in that hot attic for a good while, but did the work and never complained. Since having the attic fan repaired, there is a very noticable difference in how cool or upstairs feels on very hot/humid days. Root Eletric is a professional run origanization, and I would recommend them highly for any repair work.

Simple job but the communication, punctuality, and professionalism are what I expect from a company that you do business with and will use them in the future for any electrical needs we have.

Needed Electrician on short notice as electrical outlet fried and we were hosting a party on the weekend. We also too kthe opportunity to have ceiling fan installed. Was able to get in contact with Root Electric on the Wednesday, and they said they could slot me in on the Thursday between 10-11am. At 10.30, i get a call saying they just finished their previous job, and would be there in 15 minutes. Sure enough, 15min later, the electrician is at the door. The electrical outlet was fixed in 15-20minutes and then the fan / light installation took about 80 minutes. The Electrician (Bill i Think), was friendly, professional and punctual. As suchm we took the opportunity to ask for an estimate for recess lighting in our kitchen, and when the time comes to install, this company will be the first (and hopefully only) call made.

From the initial consult to the completion of the project - Root Electric was phenomenal to work with!Bill Jr. gave us the initial estimate, including a rendering of the location of the rewiring and a price breakdown ofthe intended work. John and Bryan did our installation and they were wonderful as well. They answered questions,made suggestions about location of outlets and worked with both of us to make sure we were happy with the final outcome.Bill Sr. showed up on the job to touch-base and deliver some supplies - we were surprised and impressed that he took the timeto check in with his employees on the job site. There was continuous communication from all the members of the team and the work was done in less time then they expected.We would highly recommend them to anyone and expect to use Root Electric again in the future.

This was a great experience and we will certainly use them for more projects. I found Root Electric via Angies List and called them as we needed a new sub panel installed to accommodate some contracting work we were having done. Spoke to Bill Root senior (I believe) on the phone to set up the appointment...actually left a message with answering service during lunch but Mr. Root got back to me very quickly that same afternoon. Bill Root junior then visited our home to give an estimate. All went very smoothly, arriving on time, as promised and received the estimate the next day. I got great service and good ideas through this initial consultation. We immediately scheduled the service and within a couple weeks had two electricians take care of the work. They were professional, courteous, respectful, and very efficient. Everything was done very well and to our liking. When I needed a quick "tweak" of a ceiling fan..that I broke trying to fix it...they were back the same day to help out. VERY RESPONSIVE! I am happy to recommend them to the list, and to others that ask for a referral. Root Electric will be our electrician of choice going forward for all our residential needs.

.The nicest man showed up for our appointment -- Mr. Root himself! He had asked about our problem on the telephone before his arrival in order to be prepared for the repair. He called ahead to let us know he was stuck in traffic and would be a few minutes late. He assessed the problem as a dimmer switch for our track lighting, which he replaced, along with all of the bulbs. We asked him to look at our florescent light in the laundry room (not a part of our original request). He said we needed to replace it, so he went to the store and bought a fixture and put it in. Didn't charge us for the time to go to the store! He also repaired a light fixture in a closet. He went over all of the charges with us in detail. He is such a personable and capable man. We will definitely call Root for any of our future electrical needs!!

Outstanding service before, during, and after. One of the other family members called me after the installation to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. Answer - YES. This is a small, family owned business that does a superb job working with customers/potential customers.

He was prompt, very honest and didn’t do anything he didn’t have to do. He came back to check on us.

When we decided to install a new cabinet, we realized the plug on that wall would need to be moved and since we were also refacing our cabinets, the one over sink plug in light could be exchanged out for a hardwired one. We called for several estimates, Root Electric was very responsive. They came with the estimate, gave ideas on the best placement and lights to use. They were prompt with their estimate and willingly added and took out things as we finalized what we would want. They could provide the lights or install lights that we purchased. On the day of installation Bill Sr came to do the work. He was prompt, calling ahead to give an estimate on when he would arrive within the window they originally gave me. He was professional, did a good job and we love the result. We have already recommended the company to neighbors in search of a reliable company that don't mind small jobs.

No surprises, everything done as expected. Very pleasant experience.

Overall, I was dissatisfied with Root Electric. I chose them based on the favorable reviews on Angie's List. Here is what happened. 4/23/2012 (9:20 AM) - I called the number listed on their website (703-494-3989) to schedule an appointment and get an estimate. I spoke with "Will". After a brief conversation, Will said that "Bill" will call me with an estimate. 4/23/2012 (3:42 PM) - I received a call from Bill Root. We had a brief discussion regarding the work that I wanted to have done. 4/25/12 (9 AM) - I sent a text to Bill Root in regards to scheduling an appointment. I asked him if I could correspond with him via e-mail to schedule the appointment. He responded to my text message promptly and said "Yes". He also said that I should send him my home address, which I did. 4/25/12 (5 PM) - I sent an e-mail to schedule an appointment for Friday, May 4th between 9:00 am - 10:00 am. I received a reply via e-mail from Bill saying, "Mr. Lum, Friday May 4th between 9:00 and 10:00 would be fine". I sent a reply to his e-mail confirming this date including some additional details about the job. 5/4/12 (10:04 AM) - By 10:04 AM on the scheduled appointment date, no one had shown up or called. I called the number listed on the Root Electric website and left a message with their answering service. I proceeded to call Bill and he said that he never received my e-mail. He offered to come by later in the afternoon to install the fixtures in the afternoon. I told him that I work at night and that this arrangement would not work for me. Then he said that I could leave the fixtures outside and he would come by to install them and leave an invoice. I told him that I did not feel comfortable with this arrangement and that I would rather be there for the appointment. He was fine with that and asked me if I was going to be at home on Saturday. I said that I would be available. He said that he would call me to re-schedule the appointment. 5/5/12 Saturday - I waited until 2 PM and then I called Bill on his cellphone. It went to voicemail and I left a message asking him to call me back. I never received a return call. The Bottom LineInitially communication was great. My e-mails were responded to promptly. Bill offered useful advice on good places to buy quality lighting fixtures as well as which brands were good. Over the phone, he was polite and professional. Ultimately, I was unhappy with the fact that Bill never returned the voice mail message that I left for him.

Bill called back soon after I left a message with the answering service and we scheduled an appointment for the next Monday. He called to make sure I was home and was there promptly. He removed the old fixture, moved the lighting wires up and installed the new fixture. He also secured the wires in an outlet in the basement. He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. I would certainly use them again, and they will be on my favorites list. Thank you!

Bill Root came out to do the service. He was a little later than he had thought he would be but he called to let me know which I greatly appreciated. I was replacing one of the fluorescents with a pendent light and had already partially assembled it. Bill thought it might be too low and asked if I wanted him to make it shorter. Good thing he did because I would have been running into the light every time I was in the kitchen! He hung the pendant light and then took down and replaced the fluorescent over the sink. Bill was very friendly and told great stories while he worked. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them highly.

Checked Angie's List for electrician, which was required to have a sump pump installed. Recognized Root from prior claims work as an adjuster. Called Root, and was given an appointment for the following week. Since we had given a full description of what was needed, the electrician came prepaired with all necessary equipment. The work was completed quickly, efficiently and in a professional manner. .

They did not install the recessed lights in the kitchen where my wife wanted them. She is still disappointed in their placement because she can see shadows on the white cabinets. During the recessed light installation one of the men put his foot through the ceiling (they did pay to have the ceiling hole fixed). The stair well light replacement went well.

He was arrived when he said he would. Went right to work - was neat and professional. Definitely use his services again.

The tech was friendly, very quick, explained everything he was doing (when I asked a question), double checked the installation and the on/off cords before he left. Covered our bedroom furniture with a clean tarp and made sure he left nothing behind. I will be calling them to install another fan.

They are fabulous. It is a father and son owned business. The prices are competitive and the most reasonable. They are decent and professional people.

This company is probably the most professional that I have dealt with in a long time. The appointment was scheduled right away, he showed up on time and was a joy to deal with. He assured me that if the screw was not the problem and the breaker began to trip again that he was return and replace the breaker at not charge. I would definitely recommend this company and will continue to use them for all my future electrical needs. Even gave me an Angies List discount!

From start to finish my experience with Root was great. They promptly returned calls, were available quickly, were extremely prompt on the scheduled day of service, and were professional. The work looks well done and I would definitely use them again.

They were very nice people. They did their job and were just overall great. They were confident and courteous. Their prices were also reasonable.

Update - I updated the review & moved them from an F to a C. There were two reasons for the change - 1) The "work not done" was in fact done, it was my mistake.........the change was minor & it took me a good bit of study to actually figure out what had been done 2) The do seem concerned about their ratings, while we may disagree on the overall rating the fact they actually care means something I still consider the overall job mediocre - more sloppy/complacent than poor - hence the "C" grade. I did find still more left over parts.......yes they were in the attic & it doesn't really matter, just an overall sign. I also skipped the price rating as it doesn't apply - expensive or cheap doesn't matter, it's doing the job correctly that does. While installing the fan in the attic they turned off the AC unit (attic switch) - nice, I had to get out the ladder & figure out why the AC was off. Shows a general lack of care/thoroughness. They were replacing an existing fan. Told my wife "there's a problem with the grating, if you hear a noise it's the fan hitting it.....don't worry, eventually the fan will wear down the grating". Um, excuse me? I'd bet that was a line for my wife......wonder if they'd have chosen that line of BS for me. Of note - I have replaced this fan, it is a pain. It is tedious & requires care. Once again lack of care/sloppy. Installed recessed lights in the kitchen - the trim rings are dirty with smudges, now I have to again dig out the ladder so I can clean them. Again it simply shows a lack of care (sloppy). Ran a new circuit for the refrigerator. First joist after the electrical box they ran the wire through an old armor wire loop. While it may be okay it's metal against rubber/plastic wire insulation - would a $.03 staple or other fastener be too much? Once again, nothing horrible just a lack of care/effort. Found pieces of wire insulation (from wire stripping) in a fish tank filter - nothing major, just another example of being careless. There's a couple more but it doesn't matter I've given the gist. As I mentioned all minor issues but add up to an overall poor experience. It leaves one thinking "what else is wrong/sloppy" -they do not leave you with a good comfort level. While they may not be the worst I can't see why anyone would use them, there must be better companies out there.
