+ -1 moreRoot Electric was very responsive when I told them that the electrical panel was smoking. The estimate happened within a few days and the work was performed on Saturday. The two electricians showed up early and had the new electrical panel, two outside grounding rods, the ground line tied into the main water line, the all-house surge suppressor and new line for the microwave done in about 4.5 hours. I now feel safe using my microwave and having the emergency heat running.
Description of Work: Replaced electrical panel, installed an all-house surge suppressor and ran a new line for the microwave.

In a day when it seems like I am writing negative reviews on many products and services it great to be able to highlight a great small business. I'm thinking of a couple of other projects and if I need anything Root can provide they will be getting another call. Thanks to Andrew and Bill.
Description of Work: Installation of over the stove microwave unit requiring a new circuit since this home has never had this type of circuit. We wanted to install an over the oven microwave unit. This home is older and did not have a plug or circuit with enough capacity in the kitchen. I requested that they run a line to power the unit and install the microwave. Bill called us back quickly and was able to provide an estimate based upon answering questions over the phone. No need for a separate trip for an estimate. Bill asked after he gave me the quote where I heard of them of them and upon saying Angie's list he volunteered that we would receive a 20 dollar discount. We agreed upon an installation date and time. Root agreed to a one hour start interval and called within 5 minutes of the start time to say they were on their way. They were at my door right in the middle of the window. I really appreciate on time people!!!! Andrew showed up, looked over the project and promptly went to work on the circuit. Bill showed up a little later and helped with the installation of the unit. Job done, grade A, within 2 hours. Bill was professional and friendly. Andrew was professional, knew what he was doing, and cleaned up the project area.

+ 1 moreGreat experience from the very beginning. Bill Root Jr. came out to take a look at what I needed done and provided a detailed estimate for the work. A crew was scheduled and they showed up on time to do the work. There were a few issues that arose during installation of the outlets in the basement, due to wood walls framing, but they were able to get it done with a little hard work despite. We are very please with the new recessed lights and they make a world of difference in our basement. When our budget allows we are going to hire them to install new recessed lights in the rest of the basement.
Description of Work: Installed a ceiling fan with light and wired to an existing switch in a bedroom. Added two new grounded outlets to basement, which included running new wire. Replace two very outdated recessed lights with 5 new recessed lights in basement hallway.

+ -1 moreLost my heat, called a heating contractor who came in and checked my thermostat and furnace but would not turn it back on stating that the main circuit panel was bad and I needed a certified electrician to fix that before I could have heat back. Turned out that the circuit feeding my furnace was too large (70 amp instead of 60 amp) and only 1/2 of the 2 leg circuit was actually getting any power. Bill Root showed up at my door 18 hours after I contacted him with the proper circuit in hand, he replaced it and tightened up ALL connections throughout my entire circuit panel (not just the affected circuit). By the time he left, I had heat again and have had no issues since. In addition, Bill was friendly, courteous and prosfessional from start to finish.

+ -1 moreThey came pretty soon, and I liked that they didn’t schedule two weeks in advance. The first guy was young very professional and knowledgeable. The owner was nice, pleasant, professional, not dirty, and I had no problems. Everything was very satisfactory.
Description of Work: They have been out twice. Once I had an outlet, burn. The second time I couldn’t get into the breakers. He came out and flipped the breaker. It seem like it was fixed, but it wasn’t.

+ 1 moreI was able to schedule the appointment easily within a two week window of my initial contact with Root Electric. I has previously purchase the two outside lanterns from Home Depot. The technician arrived when promised and performed the installations in a timely manner. Unfortunately, one of the lanterns had a broken glass panel. The technician told me how to get a replacement part for Home Depot and gave me general instructions on how to install the new panel. I was able to work with Home Depot to get a replacement part and was easily able to install the new glass panel myself. This service fully met my expectations. I was charged the rate for a single installation.

After reviewing Angie's List, I opted to contact Root Electric. They were very responsive and someone came out the next day. The gentleman was on time, professional, knowledgeable and courteous. The poor man was sick to boot (not contagious though). The repair was completed in a manner of minutes and I have had no problems since. Thank you!

(The county building department is staffed by bureaucrats and inspections are hit or miss.) He fully tightened the loose wire and checked the other 5 lines. He told me I could save a few bucks by replacing the 3 damaged circuit breakers myself.

Description of Work: Root Electric installed 10 recessed lights in our living/dining room celing. This included a new circuit from the panel, 8x 3.75in recessed lights, one eyeball light for the mantel, 1empty electrical box for a foyer light. All were installed on 5 separate switches.

+ 0 moreSince I was planning to sell my house, I was advised to update the 50-year-old lighting fixtures. I found this company through Angie's List and they certainly live up to all the positive ratings they have received. They were professional yet friendly from start to finish. Almost every lighting fixture needed to be updated from the dining room chandelier to all outside lighting. They also installed an additional overhead light in the kitchen and replaced a pull-chain light in a closet with a regular light switch. While they were inspecting my electrical panel, they recommended some small repairs they felt should be done also. A less reputable company might have suggested the entire panel be replaced. Such honesty is extremely refreshing. This company is top notch and I would definitely hire them again.

As in an repairs, there were a few minor glitches: a switch was forgotten but they came back promptly to connect it to the panel, and they more than made it up by repairing a defective switch for me. The hot tub installation went very well also, although I would have preferred that the kill switch be a little lower to the ground, but I understood the safety issues involved.
Description of Work: They replaced an older split bus panel with a new 200 amp panel and then drew a line to and connected the hot tub. They bid the job with replacing the panel and with a sub panel (which would have saved me $1000)

Description of Work: Root Electric installed a new shower light and exhaust fan for us which required that the fan also be re-located to outside the shower stall. Bill Root Jr. was super in responsiveness, explaining the project, and providing a thorough estimate. Installation and follow up were excellent. The electrician (apologies I can't remember his name) was super and the work site was cleaned up nicely. We also needed to have an outside post light repaired and Bill Root Sr. was excellent in customer response and work. Bill Root Jr. is excellent in responding via phone and email and I highly recommend this company.

Description of Work: There was a "crackling" within a dimmer switch. The dimmer switch was replaced and a splice within another switch behind the same plate was repaired as it was found to be coming apart.
