Two service personnel arrived at my home in a timely manner following a notification phone call. They promptly got to work following a brief discussion of the work I desired to have done on my roof.
Description of Work: J and E Services cleaned the gutters on my townhome and replaced screens that had blown off the gutters in some heavy winds. They checked the areas of concern which had had back ups/drainage issues in the past.
I wasn't here during the appointment (didn't need to be and had work), but they definitely came as they emailed me pictures of certain things that needed further evaluation for repair (like bricks around chimney). I've given them mostly A's out of faith that they cleaned the gutters thoroughly, though I guess I'll probably find out in the next few months--most of the leaves around have fallen by now so there shouldn't be too much clogging. Communication was easy and they were responsive. I do appreciate that they sent me pictures of things that needed to be looked at since I don't typically get on the roof... I'll look to reedit this if something comes up, but if it nothing does, then I'd probably use them again for a similar price (99).

Cancelled due to ongoing incompetence of their appointments department.
Description of Work: Purchased a gutter cleaning special from this company through Angie's List and they are horrible to deal with. I first requested a morning appointment and they set a date. They called right before the date to confirm an afternoon appointment. I explained that I work in a very unpredictable work environment and I could not guarantee I would not get caught up at work and miss an afternoon appointment--that I needed a morning appointment. They assured me I didn't need to be there--which isn't going to happen. With three dogs at my house in the back yard, I will be there to secure my animals. Further, given the dangerous nature of people up on the roof and dealing with ladders (not to mention damage that can happen to the house, I preferred to be there. They set another appointment for the morning three weeks later. They just called today (Friday) to confirm (you guessed it!) my Monday afternoon appointment. I cancelled and, because of their ineptitude, I'm not told by Angie's List I've missed my 30 day window and cannot get a refund. PERFECT. If J&E gutter cleaning service is as lousy as their booking department then RUN do not walk away from this company.

We have a route to follow and because of the great prices we offer we have to fit in a lot of people in a day (10-12 cleanings per day). We get on the roof from the most accessible point of the roof and clean gutter from the roof, we have no need to get into the back yard. As far as our route is concerned what if we have someone that wants an AM in Alexandria, one in Gainesville, another in Falls Church and one in Fairfax. We would have to jump around and try, try to make all the appointments in the AM and sacrifice other appointments to do so. Following a route is industry standard, if you find a company that starts their route where you are you may get an AM appointment, if you don't then you won't. Its gutter cleaning.

This time around, things went much better with J&E Home Services. After a less than stellar interaction in the fall of 2014, we graded J&E with a 'D' due largely to poor communication and a lack of professionalism. What a difference a year makes; the owner, Joe, reached out to us in the early fall of this year to see if we would work with him again so as to change our opinion of his business. It was clear from the moment he contacted us that Joe takes a lot of pride in his business and was definitely bothered by the low grade. He explained to us the reasons for the bad service last time and promised to rectify it this year, even going so far as to offer a significant discount. It was a 180 degree turnaround. The team showed up toward the end of the time window we were given, but were quick and courteous when they arrived. They were in and out in about 10 minutes. Communication between us and J&E Home Services this time was light years better; Joe sent courtesy emails to remind us about upcoming appointments, emailed when he had to cancel our original appointment due to bad weather, and rescheduled us as fast as he could. All in all, it was a very good experience this time working with J&E Home Services.

Each of our crews have 10 jobs per day and the jobs and travel times can range in time greatly. We give AM or PM appointment times however our new receptionist felt pressured when asked for a more accurate time, looked at the route and stated "the tech will most likely be there between 11-2. This was indeed our mistake and our response should have been PM. We tried to get Ms Cioletti back on the schedule asap and unfortunately our scheduling was not to her husbands convenience and we do sincerely apologize we could not be more accommodating. We do appreciate our customers because with out them we wouldn't be here, even though it is impossible to make everyone happy all the time we do try and will try harder in the future.

First of all I scheduled the service without much shopping. Weeks later other companies offered the same service for about 1/2 the price. The big thing.... they did not show up on the day scheduled but called in the evening to tell me they missed the day. No kidding. I wasted an entire afternoon waiting on them. When you offer a flat rate on gutter cleaning sometimes you hit massive houses and run out of light, we were able to get the gutter cleaning done the very next day which I think is pretty good customer service. We always make it clear to customers that they DO NOT need to be home to have their gutters cleaned. I get printed, black and white photocopies cut into 4 squares on my door offering gutter cleaning for $50 as well. If you have your own ladder you could go to 7-11 and get someone to do it for $20.

I cannot recommend this company due to the lack of follow-through with scheduling and communication. They missed the 11-14 appointment and then said they can come on 11-26. This is not acceptable in my book. I will post a follow-up review to see if they can reschedule me in a timely fashion. I hope that this review will spur some customer service activity to fix the situation.
Description of Work: I purchased a prepaid deal for a chimney sweep and inspection around November 1. I was supposed to receive this service on 11-14, and they did not coordinate with us that day for an appointment, although I had missed calls, which I immediately returned and were not picked up. They did not call me that day to apologize for missing the appointment (which was an open-ended all-day window, they said early afternoon then claimed to have shown up at 11:30). We had to call them back that evening to see what happened. I have asked for a refund if I cannot receive service either today or tomorrow.

The appointment was scheduled for mid day as you were in the middle of our route and yes we have to give windows because of unpredictable job times and travel times. Our tech called several times and showed up to the house but no one was there. We did not miss our appointment. This was Friday (14th) and we moved a customer from the following Monday (17th) to fit her in and the sweep was completed.
All went well and am very pleased with work that was completed.

No one in this industry can commit to an exact time in this industry or any other industry that handles multiple appointments in a day. When was the last time you had a doctors appointment 10am and got in before 10:30? Traffic and jobs earlier in the route dictate the time we will be there and there is no way to provide and accurate time because there are just too many variables. We did have to reschedule, our receptionist was still new and I do believe the customer was not given proper attention and this problem has been rectified. This was a very poor experience. It started with the company asking for my preference of 3 dates and then refusing to schedule on any of them. Then the company told me I didn't have to be home for the service, so I scheduled it, then they said I had to be home, and when I asked for a morning appointment (three weeks out!), said they couldn't guarantee it. Finally, they called today to cancel Saturday's service. I'm done, fed up, their customer service is awful. Please refund my $89.

The provider sent a wonderful gentleman who inspected the roof and took pictures but due to the fact that it was beginning to rain he could not complete any repairs. A few days later I received an estimate for $985.00 for needed repairs. While I didn't expect this high of an estimate and had not thought of replacing the roof; I decided to do a sanity check as my roof is 25 years old. I contacted the company and asked them to quote a roof replacement. I didn't a hear anything for over a week. I then sent a follow-up email asking them again if they wished to quote a new roof. They responded with a date to make the repairs and and following the repairs would quote a new roof. That made no sense to me as I didn't wish to pay twice. So I again explained that due to the amount of the repair estimate I wished to have a new roof estimate. They said they needed to do a roof inspection. I did not understand why they needed to do yet another inspection since they already had pictures. They followed up with a very rude email stating that since I had not asked about a roof replacement when I orginally went through Angie's List they didn't have to do one and the only thing i was entitled to was the work stated on the offer and that if I didn't want their services they would remove me. I fail to understand what I did wrong. I simply wanted to make an intelligent decision on whether repair or replacement was the better route to take. They win, they get to keep my money and not do any work and I get to try to find another roofing contractor.

Those repairs would have prevented any water intrusion, and could have bought you some time to research companies, and gather estimates for a new roof. I explained in great detail that quoting for a new roof is far different than having us complete a roof maintenance package. I had to call them, they did not call me. I believe they sent an email saying they had gotten the deal and that they would contact me sometime within the week. They didn’t call. I called them, they said that yes, they got my information, and that I’d like to set it up on the calendar. I wanted them to come out first before the work was done. First they needed to see my roof for the deal since it’s a steel roof. I didn’t want them to come out unprepared and the same time I got them to give me an estimate for water covers. The two technicians that came out were very nice, Phil and Jose. Phil turned out to be a mason and we also have a brick wall that needs repaired. They went back to the office with all the information that I gave them and that they gathered. We were in a good place until the estimates didn’t come for the brick wall and I still wasn’t scheduled for the deal. It was a bit of an issue because it took the receptionist forever to schedule a date for the deal. It took at least 20-25 minutes. We finally got a date on the calendar for 11/12 to clean the gutters. I asked for a time and she said she couldn’t do that until the day before. She said it was a confirmed date unless there is bad weather and that I couldn’t have a backup date just in case. I told her that I needed my other estimate for the brick wall. This happened at the four week mark. They still didn’t come forward. I talked to Joe and seemed very nice when I finally called them. The bottom line is that they sent the estimate at the six week mark. They wanted me to commit right away. They called me two days later and wanted money. I told them that I needed to speak to my husband and look at my budget. Phil came back to look at a caulking project to see what kind of caulk he needed. It was like pulling teeth to get this to happen. I went away for five days and arrived back on 11/10. On 11/11, I realized that I didn’t have a time scheduled. The first receptionist had no idea about anything. I suggested that I talk to Joe and she said that she saw me there, but didn’t have a time frame. I have clients and they are flexible, but only to an extent. 30 minutes later, I’m still on the phone and still don’t have a time. I asked her to have Joe figure out a time and she said that she would have Audrey, who does the schedules, would fit me in. Audrey never calls me back and I need to tell my own clients what’s going on. The weather was supposed to be ideal for the caulking and I still have no time. Two hours before they close I still don’t have a time. At 4:30pm Joe finally calls me back. He’s always been very polite and then he starts accusing me of stuff that I didn’t do. He said that I was horrible to the receptionists and that I yelled at them. I told him that that definitely isn’t me. He then told me that he doesn’t want to do business with me because of what his receptionists told him. He made it sound like she was near tears when I was simply asking for a time. He basically said that “we aren’t doing business with someone that acts like you.” I asked him about all the estimates and all the talking that we’ve done back and forth. Surely he wouldn’t cancel me at the last minute and he said that he didn’t like me. I told him that I was going to go and that I was going to report him to Angie’s List. He said, “Well, you seem like a woman who’s used to getting her way and I’m just not willing to work with you.” They are handling things very poorly. He’s giving in to two receptionists who are lying. They’ve given me estimates that I’ve relied on and have put me back on scheduling. Also, I guess I should’ve seen this as a red flag, one of the first times I spoke with Joe, but for some reason he wanted to let me know that I should know that the deal was not a moneymaker for them. He went into a complete breakdown to tell me that they only make $15 off these deals.

Tech called about 20 minutes before he was going to arrive and was friendly and knowledgeable. He spent a good 45 minutes cleaning the chimney from inside the house, then went up on the roof and inspected the crown. The vacuum system he used was pretty quiet and he put down three canvas tarps to protect the carpets and the hearth. He even climbed into the fireplace to make sure the damper shelf was thoroughly cleaned, then vacuumed himself to make sure he didn't get any soot on our floors. I was really impressed and would definitely use these guys again!

They left the fireplace area so dirty & full of debris that I had to clean it out & also close it because my family room was so cold since the cold air was coming in since they didn't close it. The carpet also became very dirty because of the gunk from the chimney & they didn't clean it afterwards so I had to clean that out too. The guy who did the gutter cleaning also asked me for more money & they still charged me after I already paid more than what I was supposed to pay. I will never get services from this company again. They're very unprofessional. They sent me an email charging me what I had already paid more for & having a due date that was a day after the email was sent & the job was substandard. I had to call them 2 times & left messages a couple of times because nobody was answering their phone before I got a return call. I also replied to their email & I never got a reply. I just want to clarify what they're charging me more money for because I already gave more than what was due. Very poor job quality & lousy customer service.

The estimate was much higher than anticipated. I asked about replacing a foam piece my husband put in and asked about a charge per linear foot. He said there was a flat $100 added to the total cost. I understand that wasn't included in the Big Deal, but there was no room for negotiation. Based on the 50 linear feet in question, the final price estimate was too high.

Great service. Attentive to spot touchups. Removed all the stain on my two story colonial house. As of November 2014 (~ 6 months later) still no sign of the old greenish stain. I was very impressed because I know how difficult the job can be. .
