Bought as Angie's List Big Deal. Work performed as expected.

We are a happy repeat customer of J&E Home Services. Once again they did an excellent job of cleaning the gutters which had about one year's accumulated leaves. One downspout needed some extra follow-up and J&E responded quickly to clear the clog. We are completely satisfied with their service and responsiveness and will continue to use them in the future.

The reason for my rating is a combination of things. The contractor who came to my home does not communicate well at all. If you decide to do business with this company I highly recommend going over the quote to confirm they fully understand the work you?re requesting. I thought I hired J&E to replace rotten fascia boards and wrap, along with the rake boards and they put soffits on the back overhanging, painted the sunburst over my front door & trim, wrap window wood trim & paint all wood trim on home. I received a HOA violation for the rotten fascia boards and to paint all repaired & non-repaired wood trim on the house white to be in compliance. J&E replaced the rotten fascia boards and wrapped, also wrapped the rake boards. Added the soffits in the back and wrapped the front window trim and paint sunburst and front door columns. The problem is they did not paint the wood trim that did not require repair. I was told by the contractor that I did not specify the soffits on the roof /front of home that needed painted. My response was that I don?t know the technical names for each piece of wood trim on my home so I described it as all wood trim on the front and of home. When I dealt with two other contractors they fully understood the work I requested. I told each contractor that I need in addition to the replacing the damaged wood, all wood trim on my roof area needs painting. The excuse I was given was, that I did not specify or use the correct terminology to describe what needed painting was the reason they did not paint. I told the J&E it makes no sense to only replace and wrap only the damage wood and not paint the rest of the wood trim. I specifically told them it was listed in my HOA violation notice to PAINT ALL WOOD! Now, I?m paying $2625.00 for the work and have to hire someone else to paint. The other two contractors quote was only $200 above J&E. When I deal with contractors I?m used to them providing a start time and finish time. J&E did send e-mail communication to confirm my appointment but never provided a start or finish time the two days they worked. Day1 they arrived at 10:30 AM took a lunch break at noon for 2 hours. Day 2, I had to call them because no one had showed up in the morning, then around 1 PM they showed up and left 4 hours later. If you?re the professional contractor dealing with a customer and they give you an overview of the work they require, wouldn?t you go over to ensure your customer is getting the work done they requested. J&E failed miserably at this and I was given a poor excuse why the painting was not done. They did nothing, but to offer another quote to paint the wood, which is not much painting at all. I would never do busy with them EVER! Unsatisfied Customer

I set up the service several weeks in advance due to availability (theirs and mine). I called to confirm the appointment the day before and told I was on the schedule but they did not finalize the times until later in the day and I would receive a call later that day or in the evening. Since I did not receive a call, I called the morning of the appointment and was told that they were doing another job and asked if I could wait 3 more weeks for my appointment. Needless to say I was upset, I took a day off work for this service and even confirmed I was on the schedule the day prior. The receptionist said she was new and was not aware that the appointment had been scheduled a month in advance and said she would do what she could. I received a call later in the day confirming the next day (Saturday) between 10AM and 1PM for the service. When they had not shown up by noon I called the office and left a message. I called again at 1,1:30, then at 2, then again at 2:30 and by that time the voice mail box was full. Obviously the service was not going to be completed, and I wasted another day waiting for them. I got an e-mail later in the week apologizing with an excuse that their cable and phones were down and they could not get in touch with me. I find it hard to believe that a cell phone was not available so I could be notified and not have to waste the entire day. At this point I called Angie's List to report the problem. Angie's List was very understanding, refunded my pre-payment and even offered to secure another company to perform the service.

What they did was awful. They didn’t schedule an appointment. We tried to reschedule a couple times. They came up with a ridiculous proposal to repair on the joints. They didn’t know what they were doing. The worker didn’t know what he was supposed to do. The work done by the sub-contractor was very good. The pricing was not reasonable.

Arrived on time, did good work. Took opportunity to give me estimates on other work they found on my roof.

All went well. Debris in gutters was removed, bagged and taken away. No problems found on roof

Updated review 4/24/16 with overall grade of F: When the work was completed back in August, I made a comment that I thought one new gutter section did not properly slope into the other section with the downspout. I was assured by the technicians that it was an optical illusion and that they knew what they were doing. Two months later, I was cleaning my gutters and, sure enough, that one section of gutter was full of one inch of water as it did not slope into the other gutter with the downspout. I have since emailed the owner (Joe) three times over the course of five months with pictures of the issue requesting that he send a team out to rectify the poor installation of that one section of gutter. I have received no response. I will never use J &E again and I recommend you don't either. Original review below with overall grade of B: Executive summary: - J&E's prices are excellent (beat all competitors, in some cases, significantly) - J&E only desires to communicate via email which is very frustrating when you have issues/surprises - J&E clearly has scheduling problems likely due to a confluence of factors (staff turnover, staff sick days, weather, possibly "deal" marketing beyond resource capability, etc) - However, once J&E arrives, the work is approached with professionalism and attention to detail - If you have the time to manage this contractor, the work will be priced affordably and performed well...but you will have to stay on top of them Detailed summary: - We contacted J&E for a quote via the website - Rather quickly they sent someone out for an estimate - When some time went by without a quote, I contacted them, and they had "let go" of the tech that came for the estime so they had to send another person to repeat the estimate - Detailed, professional estimate with photos arrived quickly after the second estimate visit - J&E requires 50% down which is high but appears to be moving toward the norm for large contractor jobs in Falls Church these days - Then the fun began, initial work date was postponed via email 3 hours after they were supposed to arrive, second work date was postponed via email 2 hours after they were supposed to arrive...at this point my wife wanted to sue them for fraud based on Yelp reviews (which appear mostly focused on their gutter cleaning "deals")...but there were enough positive reviews on AngiesList for me to give them a third shot - Apparently, third time is a charm as the techs arrived..we chatted and they were not aware of all agreements I made with the owner but we quickly got that squared away - Techs did the job, even added in a few unrequested items but ones they felt were proper to complete the job - I am very happy with the work and even happier with the price...however, it took significantly more work than I would have preferred to get the work done in a timely manner, and get the work done per my agreements with the owner Bottom line: - Hire J&E for good work at a good price but be aware that they appear to be frequently over-committed so you must be flexible on dates Direct request to J&E: - All emails include a phone number so require your office manager to actually answer the phone

Despite numerous attempts to schedule (via email and phone) and multiple (2-3) cancellations on their part, we were unsuccessful in actually securing service from this provider. They ultimately stopped responding to emails altogether seemingly (7 emails not responded to at all, I believe). We are requesting a full refund. We cannot comment on the actual technical work of the company because we were never able to successfully navigate the scheduling process to even get a technician on-site. We are very disappointed as we had been greatly looking forward to the service.

Had I known it would be 12 weeks from the time i purchased it until the time I received the service, I would NOT have purchased it. They maintained communication so I was usually up to date on what was not going to happen. 4-29-2015 Purchased Service 6-2-2015 Soonest Appt available. Rescheduled due to rain to 6-6-2015 6-6-2015 Scheduling conflict. Rescheduled to 6-12-2015 6-12-2015 Tech sick. Rescheduled to 6-20-2015 6-20-2015 Scheduling mixup. Rescheduled to 6-27-2015 6-27-2015 Rain. Rescheduled to 7-21-2015 7-21-2015 Work completed satisfactorily.

They discovered cracked molding in my chimney and loose flashing. Offered a very reasonable price for those services as well. The person came out while I was at work but the company later sent me pictures of the resolved work upon invoicing. Very satisfied.

The first available date they gave me was 5 weeks after my purchase and they didn't show up for the appointment. I was very disappointed and will not use them again.

It could have been better because it took some months to finally come out. I didn't realize there was a problem with it being cold and winter time but when they first told us they were coming out, they actually didn't show up and we got a call a couple of days later and this kind of went on for a couple of months. They eventually did come and I actually had to point out a gutter that I noticed hadn't gotten cleaned out and it's one that I can see from my window. That one, it turned out that there was a problem with the gutter and that it actually took several weeks to try to get a quote from them for fixing it and in the mean time, we found somebody else to fix it for us. My husband said the price was good in comparison to other places.

The contractor arrived during the scheduled time period and immediately began by covering all the furniture and the floor in the room where the fireplace was located. While one individual scrubbed the chimney using brushes from the rooftop, the second individual located himself in the fireplace itself under the plastic sheeting and used a vacuum to gather all the dust and dirt. There was absolutely no leakage and clean up was both quick and effective..

The workers were on time, courteous, and fast. i would have them do it again.

Multiple delays. After 3 months of waiting, I canceled.

It was fine but we had to reschedule a couple times because of rain. They tried to up-sale me a bit.

I called the contractor in late May to set up a gutter cleaning. They said they had a backlog and the earliest they could complete the work was June 19th. I agreed and set up the appointment- they were to perform the service between 9-11. They even called the day before to confirm . Around 1:30 pm on June 19, I received a call from Brianna stating that they had an issue with one of their team members and had to let him go and wanted to reschedule for the following Wednesday. This was a voicemail. I called them back about 20 minutes later and asked for a call back to discuss what happened and confirm the appointment time. They never called me back. On Monday I began seeking alternatives as I called again Monday and they never called me back. I explicitly asked them to call me back as I was seeking alternatives and was losing faith in their credibility. No call back. On Wednesday I received a call from Brianna in the afternoon to advise me they would have to cancel again as there was another issue with their technician. This time I was able to answer in time and promptly explained to Brianna I had made multiple efforts to contact them with no return call and that I don't have any confidence in their credibility so did not wish to use their services. All she said was "ok, thank you." Then hung up. Horrible customer service, completely unreliable and I would never recommend them to anyone.

They did a great job, would use them again.

Thouroughly cleaned and vacuumed out the fireplace, without making a mess in the room.

I purchased the deal online, and selected the dates that worked for me. I also gave them my phone number. I never heard from them. After those dates passed, I started calling them every other day and always left a message. Sometimes the answering machinewas full, I suppose from other members like me who were trying to get in contact with them. They are silent, unresponsive and non preformed.

Never showed up for appointment, rescheduled and then never showed up again. Tried to call and left voicemail but provider never followed up.

Delayed 2 times (once by weather so that one is understandable). They cleaned our gutters, but wow what a mess. Debris left all over the deck, stairs and even the chairs and table on the deck. Will NEVER do business with them again.

I purchased the service in April and scheduled an appointment for gutter clean in May. In the last 2 months, J&E Services has postponed 5 times with all kinds of excuses - "We are too busy today", "It's raining today", "The technician is sick today"... Today is 7/16/2015, my newest appointment date. No one showed up. I called J&E Services, no one picks up the phone. Are they still in business?? I need a refund!!
