Indoor Air Quality Medics

Initially, I purchased the $99 annual service but ended up upgrading and adding "comfort" component. Jonathan came and did the spring service check up of the system. He was professional and explained what he was checking for and how that affect the unit. During his check up, he notice that the liquid line for the furnace was undersized for the unit and that affected performance and efficiency. Who ever replaced the furnace did not properly run the correct size liquid line. He checked the amperage of the compressor and also said that the compressor is pulling more amps then normal due to the undersized liquid line. Explained that the furnace is not running at full performance and will only have half the life expectancy but will still function as usual but will cost more in electricity and possibly break down sooner. He did not try to push a sale but just wanted me to be aware of the issue. I also asked and requested for estimates about adding a humidifier, larger media filter and ez-trap. He explained the benefits of adding each of those components in details. After Jonathan completed his service, I read up on the issue of the liquid line for a better understanding of the problem. I found another vendor on angieslist with a coupon on installing a humidifier so I contacted IAQ Medics if they would match that coupon, which they did. I also requested IAQ to change the liquid line to 3/8", install media filter which they had to replace the return air handler, and ez trap. Joey came and performed the 2nd service and installation. He was professional and also explained what he would be doing during the installation and that it would take 4-6 hours. During the installation, he kept the work and installation as neat as possible for a clean install. I am happy with IAQ Medics and have referred them to family and will use them in the future.

Service technician was helpful and recommended a lot of changes that we should make. Came on time. I wish I could read his handwriting on the slip to remember what services and products he recommended. We will likely contact company for further service and possibly get a service plan.

Once again, Dario (owner of IAQ Medics) delivers a superb level of quality and attention to detail that have too often gone by the wayside with other vendors. Dario had noticed that my 1999, 40 gallon hot water heater had started showing signs of potential distress during his Fall check-up of my furnace/heating system around November. **Note: checking on a hot water heater during a heating system inspection is not part of the "service agreement" that I have have...but because ABSOLUTELY NOTHING slips past Dario's attention, he noticed some of the distress signals and advised that I had about 6 months left before I would start having issues with leakage. So at my earliest availability, I had Dario purchase a new 50 gallon hot water heater and got him scheduled to do the install. So during the install, Dario started his anal retentive (very good attribute in this business) examination of my old unit and showed me several areas that were already starting to fail which would have caused a big problem in a finished basement...with RENTERS in there!! *(I forgot to mention, that this house is my one and only rental unit). I would have had no way of knowing that this unit was on the verge of failure unless Dario took it upon himself in November to let me know that I was soon to have issues. This is exactly why I have two yearly service plans with IAD Medics, one for my primary house & one for this rental. The installation of the new unit was seamless, efficient and done right. We now have new, up to code vent piping, new water lines that don't zig-zag down 3 feet from the ceiling joists, a drain tub and tubing into a floor drain. The circumference footprint is maybe an inch or two larger than the previous unit but is much more efficient. Dario and Colin removed the old unit, cleaned up the work space and it looks better than when they arrived. I will not use anyone other than IAQ medics for any of my HVAC needs. Ever. Why would you mess with perfection?

They did a good job. They were professional and courteous and fixed the problem. They were knowledgeable and they came in and got the job done. I don't feel like they took longer than they should or anything.

We have an older HVAC system. When our heat wouldn't work we got a variety of estimates. Most wanted to replace the whole system for a cost upwards of $8000. We have used IAQ Medics since Dario started the company and we have been 100% happy and impressed by the work this company does. They call to confirm appointments, they call if they are running late. Dario and company helped our old outdoor unit keeping running and when the time came to replace both, indoor and outdoor, units, Dario carefully researched and gave us 3 options. My husband and I were very confident with our decision after we discussed all the options with Dario. He did not push for the most expensive unit, he provided input when asked. Last winter I recommended IAQ Medics to a friend who needed a new heat pump NOW and she was extremely pleased with the response time, professionalism, knowledge she received from IAQ Medics. Dario and his partner have trained all their employees to be polite and professional and, believe me, it shows in each and every employee that I come in contact with through the years. We love Dario and IAQ Medics and I am sure that you have a positive experience with them as well!

HVAC technicians arrived on time and finishes the installation in appropriately 4 hours. The job went very smoothly.

It was a pretty good experience. They came and diagnosed the issue and resolved the issue. I will recommend them and basically i will use their service again.

Provider was courteous and knowledgeable. He let me know by showing pictures of my heating ducts that I did not need a cleaning performed at this time. He checked vents, furnace, filters, etc., and gave tips on areas that I could keep clean to avoid heater and air conditioning ventilation from getting dirty. I appreciated his service and will definitely call back in the future when I actually need more done. Fran

What can I say about IAQ Medics? This is the only HVAC company that we trust! We have used IAQ Medics twice to service our aging HVAC system, after reviewing Angie's list. On both visits, the technicians was courteous and completely inspected our system. Twice, they warned us that we would need to replace our furnace because of a malfunctioning part. What's important is that they did not try to pressure us to replace our furnace. One technician prepared an estimate - Silver and Platinum options. They did not call us to pressure. They let us make our own decision at our own pace. Later on, we decided to shop around for quote. Eventually, IAQ Medics was one of the top two companies that we were considering. I called Dario and asked him for a third quote on Gold system. Dario was very professional and considerate. He and I spent time on the phone for an hour discussing the systems. He was very honest with me and asked me how long we planned to stay in the home. He explained that economically, it would make sense to select a system based on the expected length of our stay in the home because of energy cost savings. He did not even up-sell me even once. He then submitted a revised bid with four options listed. That is EXACTLY what we wanted! Within two days of the bid, we decided to select IAQ Medics, only not because of price, but because of our previous interaction with the company. Price was pretty good. We did not look at the price alone, but we also looked at the overall value of the system installation, including duct cleaning, system specifications and service contract along with the service quality. We debated our options. What's even important: he did not push us on any of the options. He was extremely patient. Ultimately, we decided on the Gold option because of the fact that we plan to live in the place for at least 5 years. Dario said, "No problem!" Dario even explained his experience with the system. He says he has the platinum system and that he absolutely loves it. I can certainly see that he knows a LOT about American Standard products. That's what impressed me. We worked with his wife, Stephanie, on scheduling the installation. We agreed on a Wednesday installation with the following Monday duct cleaning. My wife planned on telecommuting from home on these days while the technicians installed. They gave us an estimate time on when they will arrive - Between 9am to 10am. The technicians arrived at 930am and quickly got to work. My wife commented that they were extremely professional and dedicated. I arrived at lunch time from work, just right time when they ran into a complication. They had planned to install the air conditioning (which is HUGE - which Dario explained that is how they designed it for good air efficiency) in the original place where our old air conditioning was located. It was too big to fit. Dario and I had a good discussion on the optimal locations in our back yard. We decided to put the air conditioner further away on our bricked area in the back yard. I did not want to install on the deck because we planned to renovate the deck. Dario said he did not feel comfortable installing it on the deck because of our planned renovation and that doing so would damage the copper piping. I thought Dario was going to install the air conditioner unit on the brick. Nope. He actually got on his knees and TOOK the whole bricks off the ground and made sure that bricks were stacked nicely against the wooden fence. He made sure that he did the whole area really neat and looked nice. Then he put the air conditioner pad on the area. Perfect fit! Rest of the patio's bricks were intact and was right up to the air conditioner pad. He made sure that the area was really clean after he was done with the installation. He did caveat that he would need to return in the spring to charge up the air conditioning as it was too cold that day. As for the furnace, Dario's technician was very professional and expertly took apart the old furnace system. Cleaned up everything and took his time to verify that all new system were installed. They even installed drain pan, excess water spillage pipeline and even installed water alarm with automatic shut off if there's any water in the area. Wow! And what's more, they even "pre-wired" and made sure that the system was ready for future humidifier should we decide to get one later on. That's the kind of foresight that I would love to see companies do with all future major system installations! Dario even gave us an offer to install humidifier at a discount should we decide later on. I asked him how long is the offer good. He said, "it's good for rest of the winter, so you have time to enjoy the new system and decide whether you need a humidifier or not." Wow, he does really know his stuff and what's more importantly... he really enjoy his job. It is very apparent. In the end, they removed all old HVAC equipment. Dario explained that they are part of State of Virginia recycling program and made sure that the equipment would be recycled properly. So, we felt better about the environment. They left everything intact and clean after they were done with the work. Dario installed the color touchscreen Nexia thermostat and showed me how to work it. He even showed me how Nexia app on his iPhone with his home HVAC system. He helped me set up the Nexia with our home wifi system. He said he'll be available for phone consultation regarding Nexia should we need it. We signed up for Nexia account on line and linked up our iPhone/iPads with our thermostat. It took us a little bit to learn the system, how to set it up. Let me explain a little bit - when signing up for Nexia, don't panic when Nexia website mentioned that they'll need credit card. Ignore it. They will NOT bill you anything because you get free basic service with your Nexia thermostat. They will charge you if you decide to add webcam and other extras. They will ask you for billing info if you do add them. I really enjoyed the system so much that my wife had to tell me to stop fiddling with the Nexia app on my iPad. At the end of the service, we went over everything with Dario. He was very patient and professional. He made sure that we had ALL documentations that we will need to retain. And what's more, he gently asked us if he could postpone the duct cleaning to other date because he just got an emergency request from a customer for emergency installation as the customer has a seven months old baby and had no heat. We told him it was OK to reschedule and thanked him for asking us first before changing the schedule. We are currently waiting to hear from Stephanie with a new date for the duct cleaning. Payment process was quick and easy. The estimate was right on. What's more important, he was extremely comfortable communicating with us using paper and pen as we are Deaf. That's what impressed us. We're clearly pleased with the service and quality and would use them for our annual service contracts.

Workers showed up on time. Did a good job cleaning both the air ducts and the dryer vent. The cleaned up everything when they were completed.

Originally I wanted to replace my hot water heater with a tankless to have a more energy efficient unit and supposedly bring a solution to quickly running out of hot water during the winter. Dario came out and immediately suggested that my hot water heater may just need a repair, he ran a quick test and Voila! Just needed a repair as he suspected. Scheduled repair about a week later, everything went great and now I can enjoy a good long hot shower! I signed up for the Fall/Spring maintenance package. Had my furnace serviced and everything is working well. Thank you Dario for saving us from a huge expense. We will definitely use your services again.

Overall I am border line satisfied with the work completed by IAQ however, I had to put forth way too much effort to get the job done right for the amount of money I spent. This review has been toned down and some details left out because I was very upset with this company at the time of writing. The installers showed up to my house 45 minutes late. No phone call to let me know they were running behind. I called them to find out they would be late. During the installation the techs knocked a hole in my drywall and got rust stains on the carpet. After the installation they left and didn't mention anything about the damages done to my home. I called the company and asked if I was responsible for the repairs/damages. I was told that they would have to verify with the techs that there was damage done. I was contacted later and the techs did and quot;rememberand quot; damaging my home.... They offered to come back in a week to make repairs however, I declined due to a scheduling conflict and payed for the repairs myself. American Standard, the manufacturer, sent a survey in the mail 2 weeks later. After informing them of the above mentioned damages, IAQ contacted me, said they read the survey results and offered to send me a gift card to make up for the repairs. About two months ago I received a phone call from IAQ asking to schedule the first inspection appointment. I asked them to call back in about an hour because I was on the road. No phone call back... 3 weeks later I called to setup the inspection. Earlier this week IAQ came back and do the inspection of the furnace before. This appointment and a second appointment were included in the initial contract with the exception of the price of the media filter. Media filters are to be changed every 6 months. During the appointment the tech decided to change the filter which was 2 months early and charge me. My wife wrote the check and later I called to get an explanation on why they changed my filter 2 months early. Over the phone I was told and quot;sorry for the confusion we will not cash the check and this filter is on usand quot;. The next day I get an email stating: and quot;Mr. *****, The confusion from yesterday’s visit was brought to my attention. I’m terribly sorry for the confusion. What we need to do is return your filter to you and retrieve the one we installed prematurely. Similar to changing the oil in a car that was just purchased, filter replacements for an HVAC system is routine maintenance. However, filters are not free, the cost is $35 which is comparable to any local vendor. If you don’t want to pay, no harm no foul we can bring you back your filter and retrieve ours. Thank you, have a great dayand quot;. Right... 3 days later you still have my filter and know exactly where it is on a truck that all your technicians smoke in... no thanks... They would have probably have given me some other used filter from who knows where. The bottom line is this company is not completely professional, they miss the small stuff and overlook details. If they do something wrong they will wait for you to react and then try to halfway fix it. Their technicians clearly have no regard for your home or property. If you don't mind the headaches and following up with them to make sure things are done right then take the risk. I wish I would have hired another company. I personally will not be using their services going forward and have already cancelled my second and quot;freeand quot; appointment.

As other reviewers have commented, when Dario, the owner, came to look over my set-up and prepare an estimate, he was exceptionally informative which was reassuring. Within the technical parameters I specified Dario prepared three good-better-best estimates. All were lower than competing contractors for comparable systems. I chose the 'best' system on a technical basis, not price. Due to the company workload I had to wait about three weeks for the installation. A two-man team arrived on the scheduled date and time. They systematically removed the old system and, in what appeared to be a predetermined logical progression, began installation of both the indoor and outdoor components. Some duct work was required. The crew spent nine hours on-site the first day, which included a one hour lunch break, and four hours the second day, including another break. Being an experienced homeowner-handyman (I've built a home addition, built out basements, installed skylights for neighbors, installed kitchen appliances, done all my own electrical and plumbing work under permit, etc. etc.) I felt the installation should have been completed in one day, as many of my neighbors had experienced. However, the crew may have encountered problems of which I was unaware that slowed them down. The end result however, was a very neat and satisfactory installation overall, with the minor exception of a questionable exhaust flue installation which the company is scheduled to correct. Since installation the system has worked as advertised and is exceptionally quiet...as advertised. Passed County inspection without comment.

The installation went very well and we were very pleased with the work and results. Following the installation, we had one concern, which the provider returned to address promptly.

This is exactly what I want from a company in this age of technology. Scheduled both the initial service and the follow-up service to clean the evaporator coils via Angie's list communications. Very fast response, pleasant to deal with all around. Tech was on time both time and now my AC is working better than ever. There are so many companies to choose from, I'm glad I found this one who can communicate via email efficiently because I just don't have the time to call all the time! On time, clean, neat, professional, quick, friendly. We wanted to pay with credit to get point. It's not their policy but they agreed.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal -- HVAC inspection for $29.00. When I purchased, I received an e-mail, stating that the company would contact me within 2 business days. The next morning (Saturday), I had already received a return e-mail, asking when I'd like to schedule. At that time, I was unaware of any problems with the system, so I requested an October date. Two HOURS later, my A-C completely died. I sent another e-mail, asking for service much, much sooner. Early Monday morning, I received a call from Stephanie, and a service tech was at my door by 9:30. When the husband explained the problem, the tech immediately warned us that the news would probably not be good, and so it was. Which didn't surprise us; we've watched many neighbors replace their HVAC systems and all the houses are the same age. He gave us a quote of $5,800, which included a new furnace, A-C, humidifier, permits, installation, removal of old equipment, and clean up. Scheduled date of work: the very next day! The installers came, used the walk-out door into the basement (thus not tracking through my home), and completed the installation in one day. Two days later, the office called to schedule the inspection required by permits, and we passed that yesterday, with no problems. When the old units were disassembled and removed, the installers discovered that some of the duct connections had been done incorrectly, at the time the original units were installed. They corrected these errors, and now the air flow to the master bedroom upstairs is greatly improved. So kudos to the entire staff of IAQMedics. Stephanie (at the office) was especially helpful and prompt.

We had lost our hot water right at the beginning of winter due to the pilot no longer lighting. The tech who came out inspected our hot water heater, let us know about the out of code exhaust system and let us know about a leaking pipe which we didn't know about. The tech also found that the reason the pilot wasn't staying lit was due to a clogged air filter at the bottom of the unit. He cleaned it, got the pilot lit again, and gave us our hot water back!

They gave me like a training overview of the whole ac and showed me the whole process. I would use them again in the future.
