I have a couple leaks in the house and was ready to blame it on the roof. Several companies came and gave bids. A couple said the roof had to be replaced immediately, a couple said there was still plenty of life left in the roof, and they proceded to identify where the leaks were probably coming in from. Pyramid was one of those companies. They provided an estimate, were prompt to return phone calls, and did a good job doing the work. Definitely my preferred roofer from here on.

The salesperson and the workers arrived promptly and conducted themselves professionally. When the skylights were installed we were surprised to find that the ones they ordered were each about a foot wider and foot longer than the existing skylight openings. As these are curb-mounted skylights, the installation crew made this work by framing an interior box sized to the opening in the ceiling and an exterior box sized to the skylight. This looks ok from below, but when looking down on the skylights from a second floor window it is is clearly visible that oversized skylights are installed. Although we would have preferred more suitably sized skylights, we were willing to accept this and we were mainly happy just to have a watertight roof again. Unfortunately, during the next hard rain one of the new skylights on the new roof leaked a lot of water -- right onto our sofa and the new drapery and through the newly painted ceiling. We also noticed that the new gutter they installed was not catching the water from the second story roof, so a lot of water was pouring down off the edge of the roof straight onto the first floor skylights. I called Pyramid that evening to report the problem and they sent someone out a couple days later to check on the situation. So far, they have installed some additional metal flashing around the skylights in the hope that this will prevent more leaks. We will have to wait for another hard rain to see if this works. They explained the gutter is not catching the water because they installed it too low on the wall. They say they installed it low because the drip edge on the second floor roof extends a few inches down onto the wall and prevented them from putting it higher. Unfortunately, neither the salesperson nor the installers mentioned this problem until we complained about the leak. Now they tell us that the second floor drip edge (about 50') needs to be replaced and the gutter needs to be raised, and their charge for replacing the drip edge will be an additional $1,385. When I agreed to pay for all of the work they recommended, I expected the 5 year no-leak guarantee to be honored without additional charge. That plus the fact that the new skylights leaked with the first month has left us pretty unhappy with the situation. We expressed our frustration to the salesperson who came back out to give us the drip edge quote, and he said he would discuss it with his manager, but it's been almost a week since then and we've had no contact from them at all. UPDATE (9/12/2012): After posting the initial review the general manager contacted us and made arrangements to replace the drip edge and raise the gutter free of charge. The work was performed quickly and professionally and we are hopeful that this will fix the roof and skylight problems we have had.
Description of Work: Based partly on the good Angie's List reviews for this company, we hired them to replace 5 leaking skylights and replace the section of first floor roof on which the skylights are located. This included replacing the shingles, some sections of plywood sheathing under the shingles, the gutters that run along this section of roof as well as second floor gutters that run above this section of roof. The extent of the work on the roof was based on the inspection, measurements, and recommendations of the Pyramid salesperson, as we indicated that we wanted to repair whatever was necessary in order to stop the leaks. We selected high quality tempered glass Velux skylights for the replacement. The company provided a 5 year no-leak guarantee for the work.

This is Scotty Ferguson with Pyramid Roofing and I would like to thank you for the update. Upon reviewing all the facts, we felt that you were absolutely right in the fact that the drip edge could have been addressed during the original repair and the gutter could have been raised at the same time. As I stated before, we do take every single repair and/or reroof very seriously and strive to do the best job for every client. I do apologize for any inconvenience and hopefully this will have solved the problems on your roof in which you hired us to do. Should you ever have any questions or concerns we are just a phone call away. Scotty Ferguson Pyramid Roofing - Gen. Mgr.

I was struck by how professional the organization was at the first phone call. Fantastic customer service. I set an appointment for a roof inspection. They told me I would receive an email with the picture of the roofing technician prior to the appointment and I did. Donnie was punctual. It was clear he was knowledgeable and his inspection was very thorough. He provided an estimate for the work we would need and a detailed explanation of what needed to be done and why. We agreed to the work and he explained we would get a call to schedule the project. However, he fixed the major problem that was causing a leak when it rained. An excellent experience.

They were the second company I called just to get an estimate for repairing my roof. The gentleman who answered was touting their 17 point inspection. However, there was a $79 charge! Needless to say I did not get them to come out as The first company was very professional, gave me great info and did not charge

Response from Pyramid Roofing
This is Dan Worstell (owner of Pyramid Roofing). All feedback is appreciated and we certainly thank you for yours. I am not intending to sound condescending or sarcastic at any level. Our company can not be all things to all people. You have identified yourself and raised your hand by saying that you and our company would not be a good match to do business together. We certainly respect this. We are not charging a “Just for showing up-destination fee.” The technicians we dispatch perform a diagnostic evaluation on your roof and your attic. If your roof has been leaking, the attic inspection oftentimes reveals wood rot, termites, mold, mildew, and wet insulation ~ Things you would likely want to be made aware of. Also, included with the evaluation is a complimentary Hurricane Tarp with our 24yr emergency hotline number. Each and every Pyramid Roofing employee has been professionally trained, drug screened, and background checked. We will send you a confirmation email with a picture of the gentleman who will be entering your home. Our on-time technicians wear floor savers on their shoes when entering your home and do not park their vehicles on your driveway. We show utmost respect to you and your property. Our standard procedure on a diagnostic call is to perform a thorough 17pt evaluation of your entire roofing system. Often times we find more than one contributing factor as a source for water to enter your home. In the past week alone we have found homes with numerous seals broken on the shingle tabs as a result of the recent high winds we have experienced in Hampton Roads. Because of the entire roof evaluation, two of these roofs were completely replaced and covered under the homeowners insurance policy as a result of “Wind Damage.” We are dedicated to delivering a higher level of service and an over the top customer experience each and every time. If something goes wrong we will make it right-no excuses. Our clients are happy. Our Angie’s List reviews and BBB reports will support this claim. I’m not exactly saying thanks for the “D” ~ We don’t receive many of those! But we do appreciate at least being able to present our position and point of view. Sincerely, Dan Worstell Pyramid Roofing-President

The Salesman, Mr. Goff, was on time and friendly. He explained everything to my satisfaction. He also went into the attic to check the roof plywood from the underside. Before entering the house, he put on booties, which surprised me. I usually expect that from workers, not salesmen. The price he quoted me was actually less than what I was expecting, so I was able to include the gutter work. They arrived on time and on schedule to start the job. The crew leader was very friendly and explained what they would be doing. They worked throughout the 100+ degree weather to get my roof done, even had to deal with some storms later in the day but they got 99% of the roof finished. Came back on Monday to complete the last few items.About a week or two later I received a call from the owner of Pyramid Roofing asking about how his workers had treated us. All the workers were friendly, no bad words during any discussions. All I ever heard was the pounding on the roof. We love our new roof and we are extremely pleased with Pyramid Roofing and all their staff. I would definitely use them again, and I recommend them to anyone who needs roof work. Mike Evans

Pyramid roofing was one of four estimates I received. The salesman I worked with, Mike, was very knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful. I chose this company because there were no gimmicks and Mike was upfront with everything. The quote was right on with all the other companies and ended up being lower after the coupon on Angie’s list. There was a small piece of siding that cracked during the instillation of the gutters. One of the supervisors came out immediately and had it fixed within 24 hours. Even though he wasn’t even around when the accident happened, he was very apologetic and just made it right. I could not have been happier with this experience. Another nice touch is how the owner calls to ensure the job was performed satisfactorily. The commitment to customer satisfaction is evident throughout Pyramid roofing. This company exceeded all expectations and I would highly recommend them for any roofing job you may have.

Although we did not choose their company, the decision was based strictly on economics. The gentleman who provided the estimate was professional. He did a very thorough job of inspection on the roof and in the attic. He provided us with a wealth of information about the work that would have been done. He was responsive to our particular requests and included them in detail in the quote. We have recommended them to our acquaintances as a company they should definitely get a quote from. We would use them again in the future.

Pyramid Roofing was the fifth roofing to come to our home to discuss replacing our roof. Their representative, Ricky Higgins, was professional and thorough. We discussed the possibility of replacing two leaky skylights, how to treat two low sloping sections of the roof, and some problems with a gutter and some rotting fascia boards. He agreed to use 60 mil rubber on the low roofs instead of the usual 45 mil, assured me that the roof would be stripped down to the bare wood so that it could be thoroughly inspected, that each shingle would be secured with 6 nails, and that crew leader fluent in English would always be on site. He also said it would not be a problem for me to do some repair work that I wanted to do personally at the edge of one of the low sloping roof sections after his crew had stripped off the old roof material and before they applied the new covering. He left me with a contract which I signed a contract a few days later. The crew of 6 arrived at 8 am on a prearranged day and worked until early evening, stripped about half of the roof and covered it with new shingles. After they stripped the low sloping roof, they assisted me in bracing two rotted rafters by sistering the ends with new 2x8s that I had prepared, and also replaced a sheet of plywood over the section of the roof that was rotted. Heavy rain was predicted for the next day, so they carefully protected the partially completed roof before departing for the day. Early the next day, the crew chief came by to check the roof to be sure that is was well protected. No more work was done that day because of rain.On the third day, the work crew arrived at 7 and stripped the remaining old roofing. Some difficulty arose because a section of flat roof had the previous membrane glued to the plywood, which was spongy because the plywood sheets had been laid improperly. I opted to have 10 sheets of plywood replaced, at a prearranged price of $55 per sheet, so that the roof would be stronger and a good base for the new rubber membrane. By the end of the day, all shingles and rubber roofing had been applied. Some edge flashing on the rubber roof and a section of tricky flashing where two roofs met and power line passed through the roof were completed the next day. Counter flashing was sealed into grooves cut into the mortar joints in the brick wall, resulting in a thoroughly waterproof and very professional looking flashing job. All debris was removed from the worksite. All debris had hand carried to the edge of our garage roof and tossed directly into a large trash dumpster. Tarps had been placed around the house during stripping to catch any small pieces of debris that slid of the roof during the stripping. Although the crew chief was highly competent by himself, a supervisor stopped by several times each day to check on the progress and ask if I had any concerns about the work being done. I am very pleased with the final result and found the company to be easy to deal with and highly professional.
Description of Work: Removed existing roofing material down to the bare wood, replaced some bad wood on the roof, used 30 lb felt underlayment and ice and water shield in the valleys, reflashed chimney and a brick wall, replaced all vent collars, installed GAF High Definition shingles and ridge vent, installed two new Velux skylights with roller blinds, covered two low sloping roof sections with .60 mil rubber roofing system, installed a seamless gutter and 3 rain diverters, removed all debris.

One of our two skylights in our sunroom was leaking. Pyramid came out to give us an estimate on replacing both. They gave us a choice of the same type we had in or a much better model for $100 more each p. We went with the improved ones and had them replace all the shingles on that section of roof so they would all match. The first day they were to install, it was supposed to rain - so they came and wrapped the old ones in plastic so we would not have any leaking. The second date they scheduled, they (Dave and Jeff) were on time, courteous, FAST and in four hours we had our new skylights and roof. On top of that, they saw an issue with the downspout that fed down to that sub-roof and fixed it by adding several additional feet of downspout at no charge. Can't recommend this company and these two workers enough.
Description of Work: Replaced two acrylic skylights with two glass skylights.Replaced all the shingles on the sunroom roof with new shingles. Original shingles no longer made - Pyramid found an excellent color that matches the rest of the roof very well.

I have a very small house and they said it would not take them more than a day. I saw them putting tarps on and I told them that they could not leave the tarps there over night because I have a lot of squirrels. When they said they had completed it, there was still one part of the roof that was not finished. There was a gaping hole and an another gap where they had forgotten to put roofing material. As a result, I had squirrels coming into my attic. The squirrels came and tore holes in the metal mesh that was venting the attic. Before they came I asked them if they remove all the trash from the yard and he assured me that they were meticulous about cleaning up but they ended up leaving insulation and leftover roofing material in my yard. They were very careless, sloppy, and not professional. I emailed them, I called them to have them come out and look the holes in my roof. They kept ignoring me, causing more and more damage. I had to have another company come out and verify what they did. I had him call the company and they finally sent someone out here to look at it. That was 6 months after the job had been done. They didn't even offer to refund me any money for all the mistakes they made. He made a lot of excuses for why it happened, none of which were that his crew was careless. He did finally fix it and said that they vacuumed everything up in my attic. Update 8/8/2012: I called in April and was told they would put me on the service list and emailed them in August. You guys only removed a piece and never actually replace it. Squirrels were not the factor because it was in a 90 degree triangle so that shows that it was you guys that removed this piece. Again, I have not heard any noise in the 13 years I had lived here before you job. He "compensated" me with a certificate for a spa treatment. After I declined he offer me a certificate for dinner. Again declined, I said I wanted to be monetarily compensated and he offered me $500 but I wanted to be more significantly compensated for this issue. This sort of compensation just seemed to be offensive because of the gender specific "offers" he had given me. It seems to me that the only reason why they even admitted to their errors was because I had a MAN from another company call them and let them know all of the errors they had made. I finally agreed to $1000 of compensation. As for the delay in my responsiveness, I am current taking care of my sickly mother.
Description of Work: I called them originally because I was having leaks in my kitchen. They put a new roof on my house.

Member, this is Dan Worstell, owner of Pyramid. Very sorry about the situation. Truthfully, we have no record or work order of you calling our office until September 29, 2011. Not saying you did not call. Nobody remembers taking the call and we have no notes in our computer. I believe you when you say you made the call right after installing your new roof. We take full blame. We do not ignore clients. That was a very nice re-roofing job you hired us to perform and we appreciate the confidence you have shown by doing so. With that being said, the first time a work order was logged into our database was Sept 29th, some 5 months after the roof was installed. To compound the problem, this call to us on 9/29 was just weeks after Hurricane Irene passed through Hampton Roads. Our phones were ringing faster than we could answer them. Quite frankly we were back on our heels trying the best we could to meet the demands of homowners in desperate states of mind because of their wide open roofs exposed to the elements. Hurricanes are no excuse! We should have been out there much sooner than we arrived. Again, we dropped the ball and take full responsibility. Would like to mention though that when we did arrive at your home to inspect the situation we found two points of entry where the squirrels were getting in your attic. Niether of which was through the roof. We found rake board/fascia which had been chewed and also the gable end vent was chewed where your direct TV wires were run through. The pictures we took show the chewed wood to be quite weathered, as if this has been going on for quite some time. We may have let the squirrels in when the re-roofing occured and we may not have been the culprit. Our pictures show otherwise. Regardless, our poor communication and slow response time were less than stellar and we apologize for that. What we did do for you as you know: Brought in a carpenter to plug the gable vent from the inside of your attic. Intalled metal flashing over the fascia that had been chewed. Contracted and paid "Zoo Pro" to remove the squirrels and clean the attic. Not our best overall customer service but we did do our best to make it right with you at the end. If you have incurred any damages that you have not been reimbursed for I will make it right for you. Also for your frustrations I would like to do something nice for you. I have left several voice messages for you but have not heard back. My personal email is danw@pyramidroofing.com. Thank you for calling this to our attention. We deserve the marks you gave us. We will use this as a learning tool for our team. We are not perfect but really do try to make "Raving Fans" out of each and every client. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Pyramid inspected the roof as requested and suggested repair to a few key areas instead of replacement. We were thrilled to find out we have a few more years left on our current roof. Pyramid Roofing was excellent. We got the estimate and the work was started approximately when we expected it to be. From signing the contract until the work was completed was about six weeks. The team doing the new roof arrived bright and early and they finished before the end of my work day. Once the team was finished, a supervisor came to the sight to inspect the roof and go over everything the team did and how they did the work. I would most definitely use this company again and recommend this company to anyone wanting a good quality roof and prompt, professional installation.

The roof was damage by a storm that came through that year. It was about month later that My wife and I notice a water leak. I got a quote from Pyramid roofing to repair the the roof and have insulation blowed into the attic. They were back up with roof repairs due to the storm. He put a patch on the roof until they was able to get to the full repair. The patch held with no problem. The repair and blowing in the insulation took only one day. They did not leave a miss, and was very polite to my wife. I was very please with the over all work that was done. I plane to use them in the future.

They are professional and their prices were 20 percent less than the next competitor. They have not started the work yet but should soon. If all goes well I would use them again in the future. I was impressed by the crew, specifically the speed that they did the job and the care they showed in laying the shingles. If the air gun didn't shoot a nail fully they would finish sinking it by hand. Before the crew left for the day they made multiple passes over the yard with a magnet to pick up lost nails, and other debris. The crew leader James T. was at the site early in the day and again at the end of the day. He came by on Monday, walked the roof and again went over the yard with a magnet and looking for debris.
Description of Work: We used Pyramid to complete a roofing job. They were the best of my 3 estimates, and though the warrantee was somewhat less than one of the competiors their price was approximately 20% less. Another point taken into account in selecting Pyramid Roofing was that 2-3 years ago our church had a leak in a new roof (done by members), we called Pyramid to estimate the repair. The person who came to estimate the work and left after repairing the problem without charging, a flashing or chanel was installed wrong. FYI- the quote previous to his visit was $27,000! It hasn't leaked since.

When the Hurricane hit, our insurance adjuster said we needed to replace part of our 10 year old roof . We called Pyramid Roofing to do the job, using Angie's list. We also had failure of the chimney mortar and needed the chimney rebuilt. Pyramid Roofing were instrumental in recommending a stone mason,Chuck Hipp who also did an outstanding job. Pyramid's crew were punctual, professional and because they went above our expectations we decided to fulfill a dream and have a Solar Panel System installed. I guess you could say we put our money where our mouth was. We recommend this company to any one looking for repairs, or replacement or even a Solar Panel System. You won't be disappointed. Re-roofing is not an inexpensive project. I believe we got what we paid for an excellent job, great warranty, wonderful folks from the office to the crew who worked on our roof and they all listened to our concerns! PS Our son needed roof repairs at his townhouse after the hurricane, and he too had Pyramid Roofing do the repairs. We are a very satisfied family with Pyramid Roofing.
