Concrete Jack

Concrete Leveling, Concrete Pouring and Repair, Decks and Porches,

About us

Concrete Jack has raised and leveled millions of square feet of settled concrete, ranging from sidewalks to foundations and interstate highways. Additionally, Concrete Jack seals leaks and fills voids around steam tunnels, culvert pipes, grouts pipes under dams and roads, and corrects settlement and pumping of railroad infrastructure. We use only the best geotechnical and structural repair materials available, from suppliers including NCFI, and Earth Contact Products. Concrete Jack is a division of Preston H. Roberts, Inc, based in Williamsburg, Virginia. We started repairing concrete using the mud jacking process in 2008, and have since expanded to a diverse portfolio of repair methods, including high density polyurethane foam jacking, cellular concrete installation, foundation repair, and chemical grouting. Some of these projects include lifting apartment buildings with helical and resistance piers, chemical grouting for soil modification at industrial facilities, and cellular concrete installation as part of dam rehabilitations. As of January 1, 2019 Concrete Jack serves multifamily residential community associations and apartments along with commercial, civil, and industrial customers.

The entire process went very smoothly. When Kirk initially arrived to provide an estimate, he thoroughly inspected the damage, fully explained the process and fielded numerous questions on my behalf. He was always easily contacted for additional questions that followed while I was making my decision whether to go with having the porch jacked or totally ripped out and replaced. For this repair I received estimates for the jacking as well as removing and replacing the porch, which ranged from $2,500 - $6,500. I have absolutely no regrets with my decision of choosing Concrete Jack to make the repairs. The porch/step/sidewalk look just as good as what a newly poured project would have looked while costing me substantially less. From the moment that Kevin and Corey arrived and began the repairs, they were extremely cautious of the areas surrounding the work area and left everything in a cleaner condition than what they originally found it. This is actually the second job that I have worked with Concrete Jack on and they will be the first company I call should I ever have the need for such a repair in the future.
Description of Work: My 5'x14' poured concrete front porch started pulling away from the home's foundation and sinking on the front corner, due to soil erosion and chipmunk tunneling underneath of it. As the porch, step and first segment of the sidewalk were poured as one unit, the sinking caused the sidewalk to buckle and caused tripping hazards where it butted against adjoining segments of the sidewalk and driveway. Kevin and Corey cut a control joint between the porch and step and successfully jacked the porch back into place, bringing it back to its original level position. With the porch now in place, they continued performing the leveling process on the step and the sidewalk portions. By the time they were done everything was placed back into its original position, all tripping hazards had been removed, with no damage resulting in the surrounding areas.

I want to say that I do respect the fact that Mr . Roberts, the owner of Concrete Jack, did call to try "to make things right" as he put it. However, his staff did not do the job as his representative said it would be done and we could not come to an agreement after that. On February 14, 2013, I was emailed a quote from Concrete Jack. According to the quote, Concrete Jack was to raise and support the sidewalk and fill void around the outside of the porch. The quote also stated payment should be made within 15 days of the completion of the work. On February 16, 2013, I emailed an executed quote to Concrete Jack. On February 26, 2013, representatives from Concrete Jack came to our property to perform the duties of the contract. On February 26, 2013, I received an email from an employee of Concrete Jack containing an invoicing. I was unable to open the document. On that day I notified her that was not able to open the document via email. . On February 27, 2013, the employee of Concrete Jack responded to may February 26, 2013 email indicating she would mail the invoice to me and asked if the work was satisfactory. I told her via email that I was dissatisfied with the quality of the work product and requested that someone come to review what was done. On March 1, 2013, I received an email indicating I would be contacted by the person providing the initial quote for the job. He called and arranged for someone to come out to review the work. When I spoke to the person who provided the quote on the telephone, he indicated he would be at our home to review the work around 2:00 pm. I received an email from Concrete Jack indicating another employee would be at my home to review the work in the afternoon and his arrival time was uncertain. On March 5, 2013, the Concrete Jack representative came to our home at between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm. I explained to him that the work was not completed as indicated because there were still voids between the bottom of the existing concrete and the ground. He stated the work was completed correctly and indicated I did not read the contract correctly and that I signed something without knowing what I read. I explained to him that I was not an engineer and I trusted the job would be done as explained by the person I spoke with initially. Although the contract did say the voids would be filled. He was told to leave my property and not to return. I contacted the person who provided the quote initially to make him aware of the situation.. On March 6, 2013, I emailed pictures of the work performed by the saff of Concrete Jack to Concrete Jack. On March 8, 2013 I sent a follow-up email to Concrete Jack to verify ther receipt of the email dated March 6, 2013. I received a response indicating the email and pictures were forwarded to Mr. Preston Roberts, owner of Concrete Jack. Mr. Roberts contacted me on March 8, 2013 via telephone. During the conversation Mr. Roberts indicated he was aware of the situation involving the work product of representatives from Concrete Jack and my displeasure with the product and explained his position. At the end of the conversation, Mr. Roberts proposed to have the person who initally prepared the quote to come back to our house to ?make things right?, i.e. fill the voids that were not filled initially. Mr. Roberts also stated that someone representing my family would have to be at our home and that we would have to pay the person upon his arrival at our house and prior to the start of the work because he insisted upon this action whenever he thought ?it was iffy that payment would be received.? Mr.Roberts was told that if we were to agree to his proposal that there was no question that he would be paid but I had to speak to my husband and that I found it insulting that he was alleging our payment was iffy when we were having this conversation because his staff did not complete the job as it was stated it would. Mr. Roberts again stated his terms and said if we did not agree to the terms he would walk away. We did not accept Mr. Roberts?s proposal. I did not agree with his terms of paying on the assumption that the work would be completed correctly when we are in this situation because the work was not completed correctly to start. Instead, we proposed the following: Representatives/Employees of Concrete Jack will be allowed to access our property on date and time agreed upon by representatives from both Concrete Jack and our family and that Concrete Jack?s employees or representatives were not permitted on our property without prior agreement by my family's representative. A representative for my family would be onsite at the agreed upon time. If either party is not present at the agreed upon date and time, the agreement is voided. If the employee sent to complete the project was the person who came out to inspect the work on March 6, 2013, the contact is void. Upon completion of the work to the satisfaction of both the Concrete Jack representative and me, a check in the agreed upon amount would be written to Concrete Jack and given to the Concrete Jack representative. Mr. Roberts did not agree to our terms and ?walked away? from the job without payment with no funds owed. Mr. Roberts chose to "walk away" from the job without payment. As I stated, I do respect the fact that Mr. Roberts did call to try "to make things right". However, his staff did not do the job as his representative said it would be done and I do not understand the thought that we should pay in advance, for however short a period of time, with the hope the work would be completed correctly when it was not originally completed correctly.
Description of Work: Concrete Jack was selected to fill the void underneath the porch and to raise the sidewalk leading to the porch steps.

Concrete Jack is confident that the work was completed per contract and that all voids are filled. When we returned with our pumping truck to address (Member's name removed) concerns we were ordered off her property before we were able to do additional work or explain why the original installation was correct. Subsequent attempts by other employees and the owner of Concrete Jack to resolve the issue with (Member name removed) have not been successful. We have not walked away from the job and have not been paid for the repair.

They were responsive right from the start. Quick estimate, great communication (when worked was scheduled, then delayed by weather, and finally completed). I could not have asked for a better company. Workers were very polite and suggested ideas to help me with chaulking, etc.

We had gotten several estimates for new concrete for our crooked sidewalk. The prices were outrageous. One of our neighbors had used this company before and the sidewalk looked great. They came out for the estimate when they said they would. We were pleased with the fact that it was half the price of a new sidewalk. I was skeptical, but based on the good reviews here, went ahead and approved the work. They showed up on time and did a fantastic job. They even gave us a bit of a discount to do both my neighbors and my sidewalk at the same time. Very, very pleased and recommend this company highly.

I have a walkway that had settled so that water was directed toward house instead of away. After viewing videos on Concrete Jack website and Youtube, I thought that slab jacking would be the solution Did all communications Concrete Jack via Email. I sent them description of problem. They replied, and we agreed on a time for Rep to visit. The Rep, Adam, showed up on time, looked over the situation, and concluded that slab jacking would not work for my case. Adam was knowledgeable and courteous, and he took the time to explain to me why slab jacking wouldn't work.

Concrete Jack representatives came on January 3rd. Did the job in less than one hour and you could not see where the holes has been drilled. If you have sinking driveways or cracks, this is the company you should call. The were courteous, efficient and knew what they were doing. We were very impressed!
Description of Work: We had a concrete aggregate swale that had sunk. The house was under contract and the home inspection called this out. We called Concrete Jack and explained we were tight on time for the closing. This was between Christmas and New Year. They came over, gave an estimate immediately. We required the work be done by no later than January 7th. They agreed.

They have a good attitude and are very social. It took them 2 visits to finish the work, but they left the section completely leveled. They are very professional that Id recommend them to the president. I noticed that they offered a coupon in the publication, I called them back and they still honored that coupon after they had given me an estimate.

The work on the front walk slabs went perfectly. They only needed to drill four approximately 2 inch holes in the slabs, through which they injected a cement mix via a hydraulic pumping process. The slabs rose back into perfect level, where they have remained, and we are past the three year mark. They filled the holes carefully, and they are nearly invisible unless you know right where to look. No torn up sod, no reforming and pouring of concrete, a great process all around! I want to add that I called them for an estimate on what I thought was another sunken slab in my driveway in March, 2012. Because I had previous concrete settling problems, I thought this was the same thing all over again. Brian arrived exactly on time, surveyed the situation, and quickly determined that this time the slab had risen due to a tree root that was lifting it upward, so it was not a case of subsidence at all. He recommended, and I agreed, that raising the neighboring slab might create more problems that it would solve, and possibly worsen a crack already in that slab. Though I did not contract any work this time, I added this story because it is demonstrative of this firm's honesty and know-how. I have no hesitation about recommending this company to anyone who has problems with settling concrete work of any kind.
Description of Work: Concrete Jack, 757-566-1534 or 804-643-0112, or go to website where you can request an estimate via e-mail. In January of 2009, Concrete Jack leveled two slabs in my front sidewalk that had settled unevenly, creating a serious trip hazard. Their estimator was here on time, the crew that did the work was here on time, and they came in exactly on the estimate they had given me. They are readily available by phone and e-mail regarding scheduling and their field representatives are extremely knowledgeable.

I highly recommend Concrete Jack. They never actually performed the concrete jacking, because of the condition of our driveway. The estimator came out to provide us a free estimate, and informed us that there were so many cracks in our driveway that it would probably be more beneficial to just repave (a service that Concrete Jack does not provide, nor did they drop a company's name). He did provide an estimate, stating that he COULD do it, if we decided to not repave. I appreciate the honesty and professionalism of this company, and would definitely use them again in the future, if the need arises. After the estimate was provided, there wasn't any high pressure from the company. I appreciate a company that is professional, honest, and lays off of the pressure.

I had part of a walkway that was raised on one side. My solution would have been to lower it. Concrete Jack's solution was to raise the adjacent slabs to match. After I contacted them, they came to the house (when no one was home), took pictures, and gave me an estimate via email. I authorized the work, also via email. Again, they came when no one was home and did a wonderful job at repairing the walkway. They sent an invoice via email and I paid it via regular mail (though I had an online payment choice).I never spoke to a "live" person about this transaction. Doing business this way is not for the squeamish. After the work had been performed, the gaps between slabs were wider. I would have liked some advice about whether or not to fill them.

It was excellent from start to finish. They were the right people for the job. Someone else told us we needed to replace the entire driveway!
Description of Work: We had a huge void under our driveway from erosion and they filled it. No settling had taken place. Almost one year later it is still like they had just done it. Called Concreate Jack to see what would be needed in the garage on on the front porch. They responded in a timely fashion to set a date. The visited on the agreed date, at approximately the agreed upon time. We most certainly would have used them, excepting we found their price to be more that the those received from others. Most certainly would give them a second chance if the opportunity arose.

They were on time and very knowledgeable. They did exactly what they said they were gong to do. We had another person that said we needed to take the driveway out to do it right. The cost was what we thought it would be. They only had to drill little holes to do the work and we can't even find the holes now. When we look from the top of the driveway we can't even tell they were here. We would use them again and recommend them highly.

Could not have been better. Estimator came on time and was very knowledgeable. Price offered was surprisingly low. Then the work was done exactly when scheduled, and I was blown away. All looks great. Drain slope is exactly where it needs to be now. These folks are top shelf! I paid about 1/6th of what a concrete repair company offered. The best thing is that they don't rip out the existing concrete, but level it gently and effectively. A superb value. You must visit their website and view the photos and testimonials.
