McCrea Heating & Air Conditioning Services of VA

We have been customers of McCrea for over a decade. Our new AC installation today was done by Jonni and Ray. They did an excellent job! They are both very knowledgeable, professional and they work well together. I was very impressed by their attention to detail and how "tidy" they were. I love when people providing service in my home remove their shoes or cover their shoes with paper booties. Jonni and Ray did that every time they came inside the house from outdoors. I ask a lot of questions and I feel entitled to do so when I am paying for services in my home. Jonni and Ray went above and beyond listening to and answering my questions. I got some very good energy efficiency tips from them too.

It went great! Jonni and Tone showed up right when I was told they would. They were meticulous with their installation which involved rebuilding quite a lot of duct work attached to the existing furnace. They were extremely respectful of our home -- from using drop clothes to protect the floor (I didn't have to ask) to picking of the bits of Styrofoam that came out of the packaging in our yard. This is not fun money to spend but they made it as painless as possible. We have a heat pump that sadly will need to also be replaced sooner rather than later and I won't think twice about calling on them to help us out.

On time, efficient, conscientious, including clean-up. Had to work in cramped spaces and living areas. Perfect gentleman. Provided extremely thorough, courteous brief on system and controls. Would call them again in a heartbeat. Ray & Shammion were top-notch team, clearly professionals.

Brian and Graham arrived promptly at 9:00AM (the window for arrival was 9-10AM). Before beginning, the explained the entire process from start to finish. They put down drop clothes on all the floors to keep any dust and dirt from getting on the floors. They finished the work well before the estimated completion time. Then they walked me through everything they did and the new equipment inside and out. Highly recommend them.

They rescheduled last minute for our maintenance appointment and showed up late for the rescheduled date. The technician that they sent was not knowledgeable at all and almost put the wrong coolant into the AC unit. Their service agreement is a total waste of money and make sure to read the fine print - if you use another provider, it negates their service agreement. Stay away from this provider - they are the absolute worst. The technician left his thermometers and called us repeatedly to retrieve them. That was the most responsive this provider ever was.

Technicians (Brian, Graham and Charles) arrived on time and ready to work. They removed on HVAC system and water heater. Our new Trane system took longer to install and get operating correctly I than expected. Technicians had some difficultly in getting new Trane 950 Comfort Link II controller to correctly recognize and integrate all components of the new system. Overall the McCrea team was very professional, took great effort to keep my home clean during all phase of the work and I am very pleased with the new equipment.

Installation team was world class! (I don't say this often, and this is my first Public review in over five years. Ray, Jonni, Tome, Brian, Gram, and Charles showed up on time, protected the work areas, then working as a team, completed the work on time, and cleaned up the job sites. Ray then walked me through the operations and specifics of my new units, while Tome rounded up and delivered all manuals / paperwork in one package.

The tech didn’t have to right knowledgeable to diagnose it. They had to come out three times. They had gone through three different parts and they didn’t install it properly the first time and they thought it was bad both times.

We have had McCrea service our heating and air conditioning needs for several years - perhaps a decade. Both in our last home and in the home we purchased 4 years ago. One of the two air conditioning units failed and we called them to look at it. They gave us the bad news that is needed to be replaced - it was about 12 years old and apparently past its life expectancy. They also told us that our furnace was in bad shape and also should be replaced (which they had indicated during service calls) so we did both. Robert Shammion (sp?)was the chief person on the job and he was wonderful - keeping us informed through out the 6 + hour job. He went through all the features of the new equipment when he was done.... very professional and knowledgeable - was as pleasant an experience as spending 8400 on new home equipment could be :)

I think the experience went very well. From the very beginning they were very informative, patient, and professional. They arrived on time and completed the work quicker than expected. They explained the newly installed system and every change they made. Ensured that I understood what changes were made from the safety pipe which was new to the type of filters to use, and showed me how to use the new thermostat which syncs with my smartphone. The overall experience I had with Ray and Jessie, who installed the system, was fantastic. Those guys got to work right away and really new what they were doing. They made sure I was happy with the location of the new AC unit outside and went above and beyond. I would absolutely recommend McCrea based on the work these guys performed.

The technicians, Bran and Graham, were very professional and did a great job. They were prompt, respectful of keeping the house clean while they worked, and answered questions throughout the removal and installation process. I would use them again when one of my other 2 AC systems needs replacing. The system has been working perfectly now for 2 months; very pleased with the recommendations and service provided by the McCrea team.

Great - Dennis, the technician, was here first thing in the morning after a late call to help with the A/C. He was a very capable young man, and was quick to provide a solution, and get the cool air running.

Great experience!!!! Ray, Jessie and John were very professional and respectful of my home. They were neat and worked in a timely manner. They were very willing to answer any questions I had and explained what was done and how to use new unit very clearly. I would definitely recommend McCrea and this team to anyone in need.

The sales manager was very helpful in the explanation of all of the details of my new system. The installation crew was very polite, professional and fast.

The crew arrived when expected, performed the work in a professional manner, answered all questions that we had and checked out the system well upon completion. The three-man team was friendly and worked diligently on a hot, humid day. The lead man, in particular, was very knowledgeable about the system and also helpful in programming the state-of-the-art thermostat, which is much more advanced than what we had with our old system. The one slight mishap was that when the technician cut the hole in the wall for the new air return in the basement, he accidently cut the hole a little too large for the size of the vent he was installing. He obviously felt bad about the mistake and would have fixed it. We considered it a minor issue because we had the materials and ability to fix the drywall ourselves, and that's what we chose to do. It really wasn't a big deal for us and we have already repaired it. That said, we are very satisfied with the new system and the work that was performed. We are experiencing the most temperature comfort we have ever had in our home. The three finished levels are all staying at or near the set temperature, something our old system (installed by the builder) was never able to achieve.

Excellent service! Professional and friendly technicians. Patiently explained how to work all devices (step by step) which was highly appreciated given the fact that technology is not my best friend.

The McCrea sales manager was very responsive and timely. He explained things very well and did not try to sell us on extra, potentially uneeded equipment. The day of installation went like clockwork. They were onsite when scheduled and completed on time also. The installation was extremely neat in appearance and the new exterior mounts look much better than the pads we thought they/we would have to use. The team programmed the Nexia thermostats and connected them to our home network. The McCrea team hauled everything away leaving us with an excellent overall experience.

So, the call took two days(Friday/Saturday) as I, the homeowner was not available on the diagnostic call, but I had my Mother available for the service call on the Friday. Mr. Frye made my Mother very comfortable and demonstrated his professionalism and dependability with care and professionalism which completely impressed my Mother! He completed his diagnostic and discovered one of my systems was frozen over and would need to melt before he could service, therefore he stated he would need return early the next morning (Saturday) before it got hot. He was punctual arriving at the stated time and when he arrived he introduced himself and explained what had happened Friday, then what he would need to do on his return call. He went right to work servicing the AC system and explained all the costs and what wa needed. With an hour he had shown me what the coolant temperature looked like before and after being recharged, as well came in my home to show me other possible problem areas with the drain. He not only surveyed the basement system, but also in the system in the crawl space above bedrooms on the second floor, changing a bulb along the way. Mr. Frye ensured I unerdstood all that he was doing and he responded with confidence to my queries along the way. Once he finished the operations, he moved to the next phase, which was preparation which paperwork to cover the call. All throughout, Chris was in control of the situation and assured me things would work better. This was indeed true as I ran errands throughout the day and the heat index climbed, my house cooled itself and it was great. Mr. Chris Frye did a wonderful job and I plan to provide his name and number to,others within the area looking for someone to fix their AC system.

I have a service contract with them.

Brian,Graham, and Charles came on time and said good morning with strong handshakes! These men were very professional, and did an excellent job. They worked 12 hours without air conditioning taking out the old and installing the new equipment. They constantly kept me updated to what was being done. These gentleman encountered several nasty thunder, hail, wind storms, as they worked. It was quite a day. Greg came to check up on the work and was very pleased. The air is on and I am thrilled!

The install team arrived on time, were very professional, informative and engaging (thanks Brian, Graham & Shamein!). They delivered their service without any issues and were very careful with respect to cleanliness.

Ray and Jesse did a excellent job. They were very polite and when they were done, everything was clean and there were no problems. They were good, and honest, and I would use them again in the future.

Excellent service. Arrived on time. Ray and Jessie were efficient and proficient at their jobs. They took great care in covering up our floor and furniture while installing the new HVAC system. They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. Provided instruction on how to the digital panel to control the system. The new system is very quiet and keeps the house equally cooled. We highly recommend using this company. Thanks for a great job well done!

I had a contract with McCrea for seasonal inspections. The tech came out on 1/6/16 and found that the system was working properly. However, I noticed a loud sound coming from the outdoor unit and asked the company to come out and repair. A tech returned on 2/8/16 and diagnosed the problem as a faulty defrost board and sensor. I paid $403 to have another tech do the repair on 2/11/16. However, the repair did not fix the problem and another tech came out on 4/14/16. He found the system to have a massive leak and determined the leak was most likely from the evaporator coil in the attic. I needed a full system replacement, McCrea's solution was to give me $403 towards a new system or coil replacement. I called several other companies and discovered that McCrea missed the problem. The rattling was from a loose component in the outdoor unit. The constant rattling/shaking caused a hole in the outdoor coil. I was forced to buy a whole new unit (exiting unit was 6 years old) and went with CB Lucas. A small repair that they could not diagnose or fix led to an $8K expenditure.
