Horrible!
Description of Work: I called this company and spoke with the owner Joe Henry. I ask Joe if he could give me a estimates for a insurance claim for water damage to my tiled kitchen floor. Well before I could get out another word Joe said "NO". I said "did you just say no?" Joe said "yes", he told me "I come out and give you an estimates, then I never here from you again". This is the craziest business philosophy I have ever heard of. How does this guy stay in business? I called New Dominion Contractors, Inc. because of their good reveiws on Angie's List, how they got them I do not know. I assume there family members are writing their reviews. Joe was SHORT , RUDE and very UNPROFESSIONAL I strongly suggest you stay away from this company look for someone who cares about their prospective customers. All can say is WOW!

Response from New Dominion Contractors Inc
I received a call from this customer and he asked to set up a time so that I could come out and give him I free estimate. I asked him to describe the job which he stated consisted water damage to drywall ceiling and walls, hardwood floor damage, and he wanted some minor repairs to the second floor where the water damage originated. I asked him if this was an insurance claim and he stated it was. I then informed him that I do not do insurance claims and he asked me why. I stated I basically do not like their politics and business practices. Insurance companies tend to want several estimates, always want them broken out in a certain way, and always want to beat the Customer down as if the contractor is trying to charge too much. Out of the 7 jobs I have estimated over the years that were insurance claims, I haven’t received a single one, for various reasons. Several of the customers received their check from the insurance company based upon my hard work and estimate, only to hire his friends, or someone else as well as eliminating some of the line items in the quote. So I decided that I would not do any insurance work. Additionally, when you are dealing with water damage, mold can become a major issue if not done correctly. There are several companies that specialize in this type work and I am simply not one of them. I tried to explain this to this customer, but he rudely hung up on me. I stay in business because of my reputation, for providing a fair price, excellent customer service, and a superior quality product. All of my reviews are legit and your accusation stating otherwise are unfounded. I wish you much success in the future.

Response from New Dominion Contractors Inc
Woah there! 1.) I do not even work in Hampton unless I am building a custom home. This customer did not review my work zone. 2.) I do not provide on-site estimates for tire kickers. Who would? 3.) I do not provide estimates for Customers who have not closed on their property. Closings fall through every day. 4.) Although this young man was speculating on this purchase, I offered my time over the phone to help him with a budget. It's not rocket science to provide these numbers. They are also available on line in so far as that is concerned, but before I could, he said he would call another contractor and abruptly hung up on me. 5.) As an analogy, lets say I own an auto repair shop and this customer brought to me a vehicle he is thinking of buying and wants me to do a total diagnostic of all the things requiring repairs so he knows his total out of pocket expense. I would certainly look at it and try to assist, but would it be prudent as a business owner to put it in the bay, spend mechanics time on it when he doesn't even own it, not to mention may not even bring it to me for repairs? Enough said. We all know what mechanics charge for diagnostics. I will be more than happy to assist people with any questions they may have on how much things cost related to the "possibility" of purchasing a property as I have on multiple occasions. And if you want to leave me a negative review after I attempt to assist you only speaks volumes on your personality. Just understand folks that our time is just as valuable to us as contractors as it is to you and if you want something for free that is offered to you with no obligation, try not to hang up on us. I know the majority of you folks will understand and I thank you for reading.

The project moved right along. Joe coordinated all of the services needed to get in and out. Some existing wood rot was discovered and Joe showed us the needed work before, so we could see what was needed to make it right. We never had any surprises that caused any anxiety. I guess the best compliment was that we really don?t remember the project, just the beautiful results.
Description of Work: My wife and I hired Joe Henry to redesign and remodel our guest bathroom. We had three other estimates, but Joe had the experience and we did not want to cut corners. We had the toilet moved from being the first thing you saw when you entered the room, to moving it to the left wall where the vanity used to be. Now when you enter, you see our custom made vanity with the most beautiful piece of granite. Little story on the granite. Joe called us to explain that while he was looking for another piece for another project, he saw a piece that he thought fit into our theme and colors of out bathroom. Sight unseen (Joe was in Richmond) we had faith in his opinion and asked him to purchase. Good for us Joe has such good taste and knew what we wanted. When people enter the bathroom now, they comment on many improvements but really love the unique granite. We thought we should reinvest in a new tub, but Joe explained the option of re-glazing our exiting cast iron tub. A much better look at a lower price thanks Joe. When looking for tile we found tile remnants that Joe was able to get an unbelievable deal on, to complete our new bathroom. The best compliment we have received so far was when one of our friends’ teenage daughters saw the results and asked, “How did you make the room bigger!”

Joe Henry was recommended to me by a neighborhood friend. Joe lives in our neighborhood and I felt that was a great plus. He responded in a timely manner to my request for a meeting to discuss building our new deck and porch. He listened to what I wanted and did not try to sway me away from my original thoughts about the new construction. Within two days he was back with the tenative plans professionally drawn up and with the estimate. I have to be completely honest here..I was so impressed with the way that Joe Henry presented himself that I did not even get another answer. I found him, and over time have continued to find him, dedicated to his craft and honest and concerned about his clients. Please consider using Joe's company for any re-modeling or new construction plans you have. You will NOT be disappointed!

Throughout the process my wife and I were extremely impressed by Joe Henry's ability, workmanship, professionalism, courtesy, consideration and thouroughness. In the end, we completed a complete kitchen demo and rebuild in less than 2 months that far exceeded our expectations and we did not experience a single problem or issue that so often plague these types of projects. No matter who was on site or what work was being done - Joe was the first one here and the last one to leave and always made sure we informed and satisfied with what was accomplished each day. We live in a 30 year old house in the Little Neck area of Virginia Beach. We had been wanting to remodel our kitchen for some time and interviewed at least 7 different contractors and companies. When we got a tip from a friend to contact New Donimion, we had Joe Henry (Owner) come to the house. My wife and I were immediately impressed by his professionalism, knowledge and comprehensive discussion on what our project would entail. As we walked around explaining what we envisioned, he measured, took notes, made suggestions, used examples from custom houses he had built and other jobs he had done and in general made us feel very comfortable with his experience and his willingness to take the time to REALLY understand what we wanted. After a couple of meetings that were primarily focused on listening to us and asking questions to better understand our goals, he presented a very comprehensive proposal with detailed breakdown on costs along with a detailed project plan that identified all key dates, dependancies and required decisions. The projected cost was in line with what we had seen elsewhere, but our confidence in Joe to do the work was what lead us to hire him. From the day the project began until the last peice of trim was in place, Joe was fully in control we were on schedule and always fully informed about what was to take place each day and what milestones were approching that required action on our part (a decision, a fixture picked out, etc.). Joe turned out to be more of profectionist than I am and on a couple occasions brought subs back out to redo work or re-did it himself. I can honestly say that in all my previous experience of hiring contractors, bringing out tradesmen or working with construction (my wife is a realtor and we use a lot services), I have never been more impressed with anyone than I have been with Joe. His prices are very competitve. There are more than enough contractors out there willing to underbid a project and then either deliver sub-standard work or catch you with change orders once you are committed. Unless you are very experienced and understand in detail what needs to be done I encourage you to be very suspicous of 'lowest bidders' they are usually low for a reason. If you want a professional project that will leave you with a 'new constrution' look and feel, New Dominion is the right choice.
Description of Work: We had Joe Henry from New Dominion Contractors completely remodel our kitchen. Joe took it down to the studs and sub-floor, cut out a larger cased opening between the family room and kitchen, cut out an 82" passthrough between the kitchen and family room and cut out masonry and expanded a small 28" door from the kitchen to the sunroom into a 104" triple french door. A new hadwood floor was laid, custom cabinets were built, various repairs were made to squeeky joists, low and high spots in the exisitng floor and all electrical and plumbing was moved to accomodate the new design. Granite was put over all cabinets and built into the bar for the pass through. Pantry shelves were completely re-built and all molding and trim was finsihed to perfection. Once everything was complete, Joe also re-built the bottom frame and support for a 5 paine bay window. There was water damage from a previous exterior problem and we had a bid for $6,000 to replace it. Joe said he could 'fix it' and he did beyond all expectations. He disassembled the entire window, hand cut new peices to replace the damaged ones and reassembled everything in a way that no one can ever tell it is not a factory window.
