I have been using this company for a few years. I started using them because the company who installed my new system ($10,000) could not get it working properly. Mechanical Services fixed it the first time they came out.

Their followup is amazing! The 2 year maintenance includes a check for all 3 zones in our house (not just the one that they had replaced)! I receive a postcard in the mail, make my appointment and they come and check all our units out. We had a Janitrol unit that had been giving us problems and they resolved it by installing an EZ trap system and tweeking the flow for the condensation liquid so it would stop leaking into our pan. Each time, we have had a visit from the maintenance guys, they have a representative from their company stop by and ask if we are satisfied with their system. I can only say nice things about my experience.
Description of Work: We purchased the TRANE Heat pump, air handler, and thermostat from MSCO. Mike Hayes came out and did a study to determine the air flow and how large a unit that would be required for our home and presented us with our options. The installation went smoothly and their cleanup was satisfactory.

The first system check went fine, no problems reported. The company said we'll call and send a postcard in 6 months to schedule your next check. 6 months go by and nothing...this was December of 2010, and the heat was functioning fine so I decided to see if the company was trustworthy and wait to see if they would contact me at all. I give them 4 months and now spring is coming so I call to schedule the system check having proved to myself that they were not going to follow up as promised. When I called to schedule, I asked why I wasn't contacted by phone and postcard as they had promised. There response: "our system shows we left a voice mail in December and sent a post card in December." Sorry, no voicemail and no postcard. Also, if your company is as great as you say on the radio, why didn't you follow up a second time. Customer service anyone? But, since I called before the end of my one year contract, they were happy to schedule the service. Here comes the good part. I get a call at work from my wife and she says the AC guy is there and says that all four run capacitors are bad and need to be replaced and it will cost over $550 dollars. Remember, in June 2010 the system was "just fine." So I talk to the technician and he proceeds to explain the problem. I have degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering so I know exactly what the issue is, but I play dumb to see how well he explains it. After getting his explanation (which wasn't bad) I know that the capacitors are out of the 10% tolerance and need to be replaced, but it is not an emergency. Also, knowing how much the parts likely cost (probably not more then $30 each) and $550 seems WAY TOO MUCH so I decide to do some investigation. I tell him that we are not in a position right now to spend that much money but we will call when save up for it. It just seemed too fishy for all 4 to go bad in less than a year. Not impossible, just fishy, and I think the first tech may not have checked the capacitors in June 2010. After investigating the issue further, I find out that the technician was comparing the capacitence readings to the wrong value. He was testing for a 35/5 uF capacitor, when my systems has a 35/3 uF capacitor. While the 35uF capacitor reading was slightly out of tolerance, the 3uF capacitor was spot on, but he made it a bigger deal (which it would have been if it was a 5uF capacitor since it would have been out of spec by 40%). On top of that, he would have installed the WRONG replacement part!!! So, maybe the first tech did check the capacitors, but he compared them to the correct values... Now for the really good part. I just bought all 4 capacitors from Grainger's for less than $58 including tax and shipping!!! It will take me less than 1.5 hours to replace all 4 capacitors. That is quite a mark up on parts and labor. There are some electrical safety issues when replacing a capacitor (you have to discharge it so you don't get shocked), so if you don't know what you are doing you could get hurt, but it is not rocket science (or nuclear engineering). Bottom line, don't believe all the hype on the radio. Mechanical Services Company is out to suck you into a service contract and then completely over charge you to repair/replace parts that may or may not be bad. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, THEY WILL DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO STEAL YOUR MONEY.
Description of Work: After hearing great things about this company on the radio (790 and 850 AM), I purchased the 1 year Energy Savings Agreement in June 2010 for $297. It covered the system check and inspection of my dual zone AC and gas heat system. It also covered a second system check and inspection to be performed 6 months later.

I stopped using them about two years ago because of very poor maintenance performance. Their responsiveness and service were poor. I probably paid about $12,000 for the two units. Compared to other companies I used after them, they were gouging. I would not use them again in the future and would recommend no one to use them either.
Description of Work: I have used Mechanical Service Co over the years for maintenance work on my two heat pump units, which included jobs like refilling the coolant. This was subsequent to having them put the units in about 10 years ago.

Two technicians, led by Chad Murphy, arrived early on the day of the installation. They wore uniforms, put covers on their shoes when entering the house, and placed drop cloths over the areas where they had to carry equipment. They were professional and polite and went about their work immediately. Chad estimated they would complete their work about 5pm. The actual time they had everything installed and everything cleaned was about 5:30. I was very satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: Larry Spencer came out and gave me a complete estimate with several options to replace my 19 year old, now failed, heat pump system. He explained exactly what would be done with each option and gave me a written breakdown of costs on each system from which I would choose. He explained all the warranties, guarantees and payment options. His bid was competative with other mid range bids I recieved from about 5 other contractors. I had a recommendation from another customer, and with the information I had gathered from all the companies, I felt comfortable with their ability to do the job at a good price. The clincher might have been a "36 months, same as cash" financing option offered through TRANE.

I've been using them for years and they are very good. They are not the cheapest around, but they do a superior job. I've never had to call them back out on a repair like I have had to with other companies that have been out. They are terrific and they really know what they are doing. When they come out they actually measure your house, look at your insulation and they look upstairs and under the house. They actually do the calculations to find out which system is going to fit your house, instead of pulling a number out of their hat. I needed a 2 1/2 ton unit, which is what I had before. They did a really good job of matching the systems in the house and this one is just as good as the last one they sold me, which lasted 15-20 years. They showed up on time and did the work without any complaints. I didn't hear any foul language out of them. They were very helpful. The unit is only the hardware and if you haven't got good installation, you haven't got jack. They do a really good job. I got my money's worth. I probably could have gotten a little cheaper, but I wouldn't have gotten better.
Description of Work: I used Mechanical Services Company (MSCO) to put in a new heating and air conditioning system for me. I had electric heat with a heat pump and they gutted it. They had to strip all of the ductwork in the attic and under the house and they put in all new stuff and they insulated it. They replaced the air handler and furnace in the garage and they replaced the heat pump and the pad that it sits on in the backyard.

Upon recommendation from a friend, I established a maintenance agreement with this company. Everything seemed to be going great. They came out twice a year, cleaned the unit and topped off the freon. Their scheduling and everything was prompt, friendly, and curtious. Everything was going well until their latest visit. During their cleanings, and as noted on the invoice, they "cleaned drain pipe". Well, I was very surprised the next day to find water cascading down from my attic where the drain pipe had clogged and was overflowing. The water was dripping out of the recessed lighting and made it down to the ceiling of the 1st floor. Ok, stuff happens. I called them up and they did send another technician out to unclog the line free of charge. They had to send out a different tech to assess the damage. This one first tried to explain to me how it could have been a water line since the drain line wasn't on that wall. I explained to him that I personally was up there while the water overflowed from it and that it definately was not a water line. I finally convinvced him when I showed him the pictures. He left to go speak to a general manager about the situation. Here's where it really went wrong. The opening line was "I don't see how this is our fault". So two days ago, everything is working. One day ago, they came out and cleaned the drain line. Today our attic is flooded. I contend that if they cleaned the drain or even checked it, this problem should have been prevented. They contend that if I would have had them install a few hundred dollars of gizmos it could have been prevented. If it was a month or at least a week after, I might have agreed, but one day? They did refund my renewal that I signed up for the day before the flood.

A friend recommended MSCO, so I called them. The person who answered the phone was friendly and set up an appointment quickly. The serviceman showed up exactly on time (to the minute--I saw the truck swing by a few minutes early, and then return on time). He was very polite, wore protective shoe coverings, explained the problem clearly, was honest about the chances of the repair resolving the problem, and said if it didn't, the cost could be applied toward the next step. He offered to have a salesperson to contact me regarding replacement (the furnace is ancient), but I never sensed any pressure to buy anything else. When I left the house later, I found that he had even rolled my empty trashbin back to its place after the trash pickup! I set up the appointment and the sales person was patient and very knowledgeable and communicated clearly. While I decided not to replace the unit yet (like I said, there was no high pressure), I will definitely call them when the time comes. This company provides excellent service!
Description of Work: The pilot light on the furnace went out repeatedly, and they checked it out and replaced a heat exchanger, which resolved the problem.

I was not real happy with the way they tried to charge me almost double what they first told me. The technician was on time and polite but tried to tell me that I needed a new unit. Randy Frey was amazing. When he found I needed a city inspection permit; he really went to work. He went through all of the red tape for me he started working on this at the end of May and did not finally get it all resolved until about June 29. We tried to go through the State but that would have taken even longer. When he got it worked out, he even went down town himself and bought the permit for me, and saved me from having to pay a huge fine. On top of that he didn't charge me a dime.

The A/C mechanic had a hard time identifying problem. He spent four hours checking the unit and finally determined, the outside coil was dirty. The unit continues to run all day, with no change in cooling performance. A year ago, my wife used Mechanical Services to resolve a problem in the same unit. After 3 visits and numerous charges, the technician determined the indoor coil, had a freon leak. The coil was subsequently replaced and the bill came to $1135.00. Two months later, we experienced a water leak coming form the attic, the A/C handler was leaking condensate from the drain line, because the mechanic, did not fasten it correctly. We called and asked to speak with the owner and was informed, he would return our call. It has been one month and we have not received his call.
