Kellam was the first I called after exhaustively reviewing Angie's List feedback on most listed companies. Didn't promise same-day service, but would see if they could get someone out to me, otherwise it would be the next morning. After calling my next four choices from AL and getting possible appointment times of the next afternoon or exorbitant emergency/after-hour rates for same-day service quoted, Kellam (Judy) called back and said a tech would arrive in the next half hour, and he did. Required 3 lbs of refrigerant, but a leak check would have been another 1.5 times what I had paid for the service call and the refrigerant. Still price-checking on that, but overall a pleasant, no-fuss, no-muss (DJ wore booties inside, making my wife happy) experience. UPDATE (approx 30SEP11): Refrigerant loss again. Called Kellam and they said the tech who had made the first service call would call me to schedule an appointment. The next day the Service Manager calls me to tell me they refuse to service my unit, because they need an extension ladder to access the exterior unit on a cantilevered platform securely sistered into the attic floor joists about 10 feet. Absolutely unbelievable after they serviced the unit only a couple months earlier. Even more ridiculous because tech arrived on original service call with an extension ladder on his truck. Found another HVAC company who had no problems with heights (or the use of ladders) and they found evidence the wrong refrigerant was used by Kellam and deduced the interior coil was leaking, based on the lack of any tell-tale signs of leakage anywhere else. A fix for this problem only requires using a step ladder to access the attic from inside the house. So, if Kellam had merely investigated the situation, they would have found their fear to be unwarranted or at least unnecessary.

When we decided to replace our old, broken down A/C system, we got quotes from several companies, based on their reviews on Angie's list. Although we'd never dealt with them in the past, one we called for an estimate was Kellam Mechanical, because they had an excellent rating. I'm so glad we did! I can't say enough good things about these guys, or the company as a whole. Mike Clark, who did the estimate, is an excellent representative of the company. He was thorough, professional, and took the time to explain all our options, and answer all our questions. On the day the installation was scheduled, he was there bright and early to make sure the technicians had a clear understanding of what was to be done, and that everything would go smoothly. His obvious belief in the company, and its professional integrity, was what ultimately convinced us to award Kellam the job. The technicians were here exactly on time, got right to work, and were so proficient at what they were doing, it all went like clockwork. We also had a very large, old oil furnace that had to removed from a cramped crawlspace, and they made what should have been a very difficult job, look easy. They were very considerate about making sure they didn't leave a mess in the house, and all the debris from under the house (old ductwork and the old furnace they'd removed) was wisked away on a pick-up truck that appeared precisely when they needed it. They took it away so fast, I never even saw it! The technicians on the job were professional, courteous, and diligent. The work was completed in less time than anticipated, and the system works perfectly. I spent about 15 years working for local commercial HVAC contractors and, I have to say, I have never seen such excellent organization, professionalism, and overall commitment to customer satisfaction, as was demonstrated by all the members of Kellam Mechanical whom I came in contact with. I strongly recommend you call Kellam Mechanical if you need HVAC or electrical work done. That's exactly what I'm going to do. After being disappointed by so many contracting companies in the past, it was so refreshing to find one that's committed to doing quality work at a fair price. Great job, guys!

Everything was working fine with my system, but I had been in this house for about a year and a half so I thought I'd better get a system check before summer hits. I first called on a Saturday and I got an answering service. I was disappointed that I couldn't get something set up right away, but at least someone did call me back first thing Monday morning. Unfortunately I had already decided to go with a different contractor who answered the phone on Saturday. Still, the individual who called me back was very friendly, so when I ended up being unsatisfied with the service I had received from the other contractor, I ended up calling back Kellam Mechanical to have the same service done. When I called on a Tuesday I think it was, they were able to send someone out that afternoon. The technician was very friendly, courteous, and professional. He definitely knew what he was doing and had a lot of experience. I was told over the phone that the special service provided was on special for $59. I got just what I wanted as advertised. When it was time for him to leave he said the price was $79, but when I told him about the special I was told about on the phone, he agreed to accept the lower price. He said everything with the system was fine but pointed out some big picture deficiencies in the system that Kellam Mechanical could address. When I asked for an estimate for the work (new furnace, moving furnace from basement floor up into crawl space, rerouting some vents, he said that he could not provide the estimate, but that a "comfort specialist" (salesman) would have to come out at a different time to provide that estimate. When the technician left, he set up an appointment for this comfort specialist to come out. Mike Price did come out the next week as scheduled. He was very attentive, courteous and professional. He could not provide me a quote on the spot, but that he needed to calculate the total back at the office. He said he would email me the official estimate, but it is now four days later and I'm still waiting to hear from him.

Very satisfied....company is due this week for check-up

The service I received from Kellam Mechanical on this contract was pleasant from beginning to end. First, I called and talked with Jody--who seemed very nice. Thank you Jody for speaking clearly to an old man (83) who can't hear very well. Mike Clark visited me--answered all my questions and made a proposal. His suggestions were very welcome. We were working on a heating/ac system for the whole house and decided to start with this small unit for one room. The rest will follow. My thanks to Mike, Chuck Sandford, and Scott Kellam, and to Lance and Brian who installed the unit. It was done in half a day and they were very efficient in their work. It really looks neat. It is so good to get service where the customer is important--an event that I have not seen in a long time. Only one complaint: They do not spell my first name correctly--it has been Malcolm all my life--not Malcom. I believe I spelled all their names correctly. Malcolm L. Simmons

They had to run some lines from the heat pump down a wall and it was very noisy; it was keeping me awake and I had problems with it. They came out countless times to try to quiet it and they ended up pulling the lines out and rerouting them outside out house. It was a major project but they did it at their own expense. That solved the problem. They had been out at least five times and they really went out of their way to solve that problem. They absolutely look for customer satisfaction. I think the expensive was quite high but we had a positive experience with them. Everything was well-managed from beginning to end.

Kellam Mechanical are very friendly and thorough. They'll do what I ask them to do in terms of checking various things. It seems that they are real honest.

These guys were very good. Trust me I was on them like a "Hobo on a ham sandwich", I don't trust easily. I know my aging system (1996) will need replacement in the next few years, I will let them do it.

Rob was so professional, neat, did a thorough job, and courteous. I was just very pleased with them. Didn't charge me for the inspection, checked the thermostat and made sure it was in working order. Tested everything in the furnace as well. They had fit me in between 10 AM and noon and let me know they could actually come in earlier. I recommend them to others.

Kellam has done other work for us in the past and I have always been pleased. They are very reliable and honest. It helped when they explained everything in detail to me. I would recommend them.

They did a good job. They came out on time and got the job done. They were good at what they did and their prices were very reasonable too. They took the old unit out and didn t leave any mess for me to clean up. I would recommend them to my family and friends, or anyone else.
