Kellam Mechanical just completely replaced my old existing HVAC. We had Kellam install a closed loop geo-thermal system and also had them replace all the duct work as well. Scott/Sarah and team did an excellent job. All work was done professionally and they and their team are a pleasure to deal with. They have the correct tag line: Tell 'em Kellam and we will!! Two technicians arrived on time with the equipment to install the system. The lead technician, after measuring the access opening to the attic?s equipment location, said the opening was too small for the furnace to fit through. He called the CC to apprise him of the situation. The CC then called me, he acknowledged his error in not measuring the opening, and proposed a smaller furnace. When I asked what the difference was between furnaces, the CC said there was no difference except the size. A quick check on the manufacturer?s website showed the replacement furnace had a smaller blower motor with 400 CFM less airflow. The CC?s response to my findings was the CFM flow of the larger system was to be adjusted down by the technician to the smaller CFM anyway. Naturally, my next question was why he proposed the larger system in the first place. He said the smaller system could not support the 16.5 Seer air conditioner. To give us time to consider the new proposal, we cancelled the order and after a week my payment was fully refunded. A check of the attic opening size showed that the unit would fit if the molding surrounding the opening was removed and later replaced. A simple job that I could perform. On the off-chance that this whole situation resulted from an inexperienced CC, I called to speak to one of the Kellam owners. The receptionist said Ms. Kellam was busy and I requested she return my call to review my concerns. Instead of the owner as requested, the Service Manager called. Considering his position, we agreed to a meeting. Our expectations were hopeful. On Nov. 1, after 2 hours of conversation the Service Manager offered no logical explanation or justification for the CC?s performance. The final response was a new sales proposal. It had the smaller, less capable furnace, and a 14.5 Seer air conditioner with no change in price or any consolation for my inconvenience. With no further contact from Kellam, we considered the matter closed as they appeared to us as having little interest in keeping us as customers. Epilog: Using Angie?s List, we selected another HVAC company. They installed a 95% efficient furnace the same size as the original larger box by removing the attic molding, installed a 16 Seer, dual-compressor air conditioner.
Description of Work: On Sept. 13, 2012, Kellam’s Comfort Consultant did his full house HVAC survey to replace our aging system. Afterwards, we chose the middle priced system that included a 16.5 Seer air conditioner and an 80% efficient furnace. We ordered the system and paid half as down payment.

We apologize for the lack of measurement of the access space on the initial consult. That step is expected to be executed on all of our consults, which would have reduced the installation challenge. The solution for a smaller furnace proposed that fit the access space was adequate for comforting your home, however less efficient than you desired. Our retail manager and comfort consultant acknowledged the measurement error during their follow up visit with you at your home and granted your request to cancel the contract and refund your money. Our records state that we transacted your down payment on 10-3-12 and upon your request we returned your payment in full on 10-5-12 before it even cleared the bank on our end to meet your demand regarding immediate reimbursement. To respond to the disappointment with no price break offered for the smaller furnace, our retail manager applied a 3% discount on the original proposal based on available scheduling date (meaning we had specific openings ready to be filled) and a rebate that brought the price down below our book value, delivering you our lowest price possible. The cost difference between furnaces was minimal, at $38.00. According to our records you called Kellam Mechanical back out there on 11-26-12 and 1-3-13 for additional service repair on your furnace which shows trust in our technicians and services. We regret that we have not met your satisfaction, however, we responded with accountability and with courtesy of refunding your money honoring our 100% money back guarantee policy. Scott and Sarah Kellam are always happy to work with clients upon request, however there are cases we feel our managers are well suited for client responses especially when they are invested in the delivery of the installation and service process. From the time they enter and you explain the issue, they communicate easily. They don't start any work until you fully understand.
Description of Work: After being away for 4 days and coming home to a very cold house, we immediately called Kellam. They came out the same day as we called. Our furnace would not ignite. He found that the ignitor was bad and replaced it and recycled the system until the unit fired off & commenced to operate properly. Everytime I have had Kellam come to my home for any issue, they have responded quickly and took their time to explain what was going on and how to fix it.

UNPROFESSIONAL AND FRAUDULENT PRACTICES!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. We called and had an appointment scheduled with a window of 9:30 to 11:00. My wife had to take off work that morning in order to meet with Kellam as we were intermittently without heat. We both work full time and have limited vacation hours so it was important that we get it fixed in a timely fashion. We tried to schedule for a Saturday but were told that would be an extra charge for weekend service. 11:00 rolled around and no call or sign of the repair people. My wife called Kellam and asked when they would arrive and the word was they were still out on a call and would arrive shortly. My wife left soon after around 11:10. Her phone was then called at 11:13 by a technician. Funny they can call when they arrive but not before to say they are going to be late. We got a notice on the door stating we were not home and stating they arrived at 11:00 on the dot. Two weeks later we got a "No Show" fee in the mail for $89, again stating they arrived at our home at 11:00. This is fraud and we will report this to the BBB. A good business communicates with their clients when they give a window of time they are supposed to arrive and if they are late, they apologize. Instead we got no communication and a bill for $89. Good luck getting that $89 or any future business from us or anyone we know. We called 1-Hour Heating and AC and they arrived at the beginning of their window of time on a Saturday with no extra charge and they called 15 minutes prior to their arrival.

The following review response contains date, time, and phone conversation data that is supported by our GPS tracking system installed in every company vehicle and our incoming phone call recording service that we use for quality control purposes. On this particular day, this client did call us at 10:56 A.M. and my Service Dispatcher answered the call. She explained that the technician who was scheduled to see them had just finished his previous call and she was in the process dispatching him to their home. She also explained that he was only minutes away and asked the client if she still wanted us to send him and she said “yes”. That conversation ended at 10:59 and my technician arrived exactly ten minutes later at 11:09 to find no one home. He notified our dispatcher who immediately attempted to contact the clients but with no success. She left a message asking for a return call so that we could attempt to rectify this situation but that call was never returned. In addition, I attempted to reach them by phone that same day as I personally review and address all abnormal occurrences but my call was not returned either. In regards to the “no show” fee, we had no intention of charging this fee to them despite the fact they received an invoice in the mail. I take responsibility for this as I had made the necessary changes in our computer system but I completely failed to physically pull the paper ticket from our current billing file. I apologize for this oversight and I have modified this process to ensure this does not happen again. In closing, it is extremely rare that we miss our arrival window but on this day we did miss it and we do apologize for this. I can assure our clients as well as anyone reading this that we hold ourselves to the highest standards of customer service and I believe our Angie’s List history as well as our exemplary status with the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce will support this sentiment. I have used them a couple of months ago, but I thought they need to come out again. I needed to make an appointment, because they do a every couple of months check up for me - I'm signed up for that. I tend to like the businesses that are ( inaudible 7:33:6). I like family owned, but they treated you very family like. From the receptionist, the person who answers the phone, probably down to the people that came. They were very professional, they were really good. I got quotes from a couple of different people and theirs was extremely reasonable. Two years ago, I had someone come out and quoted me work and never fixed it. They came out - it took them a couple of people to figure out that they were diligent, because the first person came out and couldn't figure it out. They had someone gone back down to the owner. They came out, figured it out, fixed it and it works fantastic. I even signed up for a regular check up programme with them. I do automatic ( inaudible 8:40:5) through them for that and everything is always perfect and punctual. They even call to check up on me, everything. They are great.
Description of Work: I have used Kellam Mechanical. In general it was air duck work, air conditioning and they had to fix a problem that when we bought the house, we did not know what was wrong with it. I think it was a permanent issue that needed to be corrected and they came in and corrected the issue. And we had new air vents put in to re-adjust the air correctly.

I just love Kellam Mechanical's staff. On 7/22/12, my condo's A/C went out, I contacted them again. Josh was dispatched to my property. He told me he would be available in the afternoon, and he gave me a courtesy phone call 30 minutes before getting there. He jumped right to work, and diagnosed that the motor fan needed to be replaced. It would be about $500. However, he advised me to change my 22 year-old A/C system. At last, it was high time I parted my way from it. Josh made arrangement for a sales representative to contact me the next day for a quote. He was very courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. John (sales representative) met with me that Monday. He measured everything and said he would have a quote the next day. In the meantime I arranged to get 2 other quotes from other companies. Kellam Mechanical was still the most affordable. John could only get the staff and the equipment the following Monday July 30th. However, he provided me with a window A/C. The weather was rather brutal during this week. John was great, every time I had a question, I called him on his cell, and he would either answer right away, or return my call very promptly. Poor John, I contacted him a lot! On the big day 7/30, John came back with Mike, Damian and Dean. They were wonderful! Polite, professional; they went straight to work. They even used booties inside the house. They finished in 2 1/2 hours. They cleaned after they finished. Dean even checked the dryer because Damian got shocked from it. He advised me to get the dryer service and not use it until then. On the Saturday morning, I received the A/C warranty paperwork. They are fast, efficient from start to finish. They are also very dependable. I can't express how impressed I am with everyone. I have had to contact them 3 times, and every time everyone was very professional. They completely have my business.

I purchased a fixer-upper and the air conditioning went out the day after closing. Kellam Mechanical was the only company on Angie's List that would come out that same day (Monday) for a new customer. This was during a major heat wave so I was impressed to say the least. Three other companies I called on Angie?s list could not get out to the house for four days. Ultimately the unit in the house was over 24 years old and I needed to replace the entire system. I had four quotes - Kellam being slightly the most expensive. What they did have that the others didn't was their own installation crew - most contracted the work out - and a sterling reputation on Angies's list. The sales person, Barry was excellent, he came to our house the same night and was able to work out financing. The unit was ordered and installed in two days -- which was important to us because we had a construction crew coming in for remodeling and they would not have been able to work in that heat. We did have some initial problems with the unit not cooling the house sufficiently. The installation crew came back to make adjustments the next day ? unfortunately that did not correct the problem. We had to call on the weekend and their on-call Tech, Tommy, came out within an hour. He spent 2 hours on the job and got everything working. He then contacted the installation manager to come in to inspect the job. The next business day the installation manager, crew and sales person was there going through every piece of the installation and they didn?t leave until everything was perfect. Even though there were issues during the installation ? the effort, responsiveness and commitment to satisfying my needs was above and beyond. Their entire team was on it until it was corrected which included the installation manager, the installation team, the sales person and the tech. The integrity of the company cannot be matched. True commitment to customer satisfaction can be measured by how a company responds when things do not go exactly as planned. I can say this company is truly committed to customer satisfaction. I am so happy I chose to go with Kellam Mechanical. I know they will be there to take care of my system for years to come.

Kellam mechanical was very responsive. Immediately set up site visit with tenant. Tenant stood them up several times but Kellam kept rescheduling until they were able to see the units to provide their estimate. They were very competitive and completed the job within a day of my giving them the go ahead. They were foresighted enough to send me the warranty papers rather than leaving them with the unit (I forgot to ask them and when I did they had already put them in the mail to me). They kept in constant contact via email and I never had to wonder what was going on.

There was a leak coming from the ceiling of my condo the week before that a plumber attributed to the A/C system.My tenant also felt that the air was not as cold as it used to be. I had contacted another company in the morning that quoted me $4200 for a new unit system. I wanted a second opinion because of the cost.I contacted Kellam Mechanical at 12:28pm, a very professional and courteous lady answered, asked for the information and told me that I would be contacted back shortly.Tommy called at at 12:52 to let me know he would be there within an hour. He called me back 15 minutes later to let me know that the charge would be $120 because I was not a USA member. I thought it was great to let me know ahead of time instead of wasting his and my time. As I pulled in the condo parking lot, he was already looking at the A/C unit outside. The unit had been unplugged by the morning technician, and he asked me why. I explained to him that I needed a second opinion, and I did not want to say anything that had been discussed with the other company. I wanted him to tell me what was wrong.Tommy took the time to explain everything. He is very knowledgeable. He showed me that the pressure was reading was 40, which explains the 80 degrees inside. Inside, it was indeed 81 degrees. He said there was nothing to do, everything worked well. He checked all the air vents to ensure that the temperature was flowing correctly. He realized that there might have been a problem with the thermostat. He noticed that it had been set on a schedule, that neither the tenant nor I knew of. He explained everything about the 5 minutes delay between the thermostat and the outside unit. My husband handles those things, hence my ignorance.Tommy also explained that the leak came from the upstairs A/C unit, and showed an area where indeed the leak must have started. It was a great experience, Tommy is very savvy, and very humorous. Lastly, the storm door was making noise as he went in and out of the condo. He went in his truck and got some sort of WD-40 to spray on the door hinges. That was very nice of him to help us out. Thanks to Tommy, I was able to save $4200, and found an explanation for the leak on my ceiling.I will definitely call again if I need help.

Our HVAC unit decided to stop yesterday around 5 pm. Knowing it is a 'holiday weekend' we thought we could try to deal with the heat in house by turning on every ceiling fan, plugging in all the others and open windows. But when the house got to 84 degrees inside, I told my husband that its time to make some calls. After searching reviews on Angies List, we made a call today 5/27 to KELLAM MECHANICAL around 1 pm. How amazing that a 'real' person answers the call and takes all your information. We received a call back from Adam within 15-20 minutes. He told us the cost of the diagnostic fee and told us that his technicians were on a big job and that it looked like he couldn't get someone here till 6pm. Then around 3:30, Adam called back to tell us that he had another technician finish early and was on his way to our home and would arrive within 20 minutes. Needless to say we were very grateful for this phone call! Tommy arrived on time. Listened to our issue and off he went checking everything that needed to be checked. When he found the emergency shut off switch was not producing power, he took it off and showed us the burned out section of the switch. He had a replacement in his truck and within minutes it was working!! He again went around to everything to double check that all was working as it should. Tommy explained the charges to us and the need of a few small things that should be done before we put our house on the market. I asked if he was done for the day and told him how much we appreciated his time and to go and enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!My husband told me to get right on Angies List to write a GREAT REVIEW.............. coming from a man that is usually negative and tells me to do something positive............. you know it has to be good..........I mean GREAT!!!Thank you Adam and Tommy. As I am sitting here writing this my home is getting cooler!!!

Their estimate was very competitive, I received 3 different estimates from local companies and they were very reasonable. Adam was awesome from the get-go. He had a great personality during the initial estimate and really knew his product. The small family-owned business feeling was great and everyone worked together so well and had much respect for each other. Adam was upfront and honest about what needed to be done and even helped with items to include in the estimate that I didn't even think of (since it?s an insurance claim due to hurricane flooding- I needed to be sure I was thorough). Adam even brought out 2 crews on the first day to be sure that the project was completed ahead of schedule. His crews were great and were there on-time and were at the house when they said they would be. The project was completed on-time and within budget. I highly recommend this company.

Description of Work: In the past i have dealt with many HVAC companies and always felt like i was getting the shaft. Not this time. I called kellam mechanical from the excellent reviews on angies list. My parents who are now 80 years old had no heat(IT WAS 51 DEGREES IN THE HOUSE) when i arrived this morning. Found kellam on AL and a very pleasant and concerned woman answered. I explained the situation , She put me on hold for a minuite. She came back and said there will be a technician out in 2 hours. It would have been late afternoon but under the circumstances she pushed us up due to my parents age. The men arrived right on time and worked very hard to get the heat back up. They were very respectful and my folks really liked them. I was not there but when i got in from work the house was very warm. They did a great job and made a customer for life. Theese days it's hard to find a company who really cares about doing the right thing and i feel luck to have found them.Thanks to angies list i did not have to thumb through the phone book. By the way the bill came out to 138.00 total parts and labor. That one hour company would always present a bill for 250.00 or more. Thanks lellam for taking care of my parents when they were freezing. I will dillegently put the word out that there is no better HVAC company in hampton roads. anthony costa jr

Great. I I checked out Angie List to see which companies were rated and decided on giving Kellam a call. Made the appt, according to my schedule and he was on time, used booties coming in because I had shampooed carpet over the wkend. Went to attic, outside to heat pump and vice versa, was in out about two hours.
Description of Work: I I used Kelllam for the annual checkup of the system and to give advice on its operating efficiency. DJ came out and did an exellent 15 point checkup. Service was great, as I learned a lot from the information he gave. I am satisfied with his customer friendly service and knowledge.

They are excellent! They are very professional, and they did a great job. The staff was incredibly polite, and I thought they were accommodating. The only drawback was that they were a little pricey.

Kellam Mechanical is very customer service oriented. I’ve dealt with about seven different technicians, and they’ve been very professional. All in all, my experiences with Kellam have been wonderful.
Description of Work: We have them on an annual contract for both my home and my mother’s home. They’ve done both installation and maintenance work for us.

We've been using Kellam for years so it was no surprise to see them rated so highly on Angie's List. Can't say enough good stuff about the people that own, run, and work for Kellam, they're like family. They are the only contractor my wife allows in the house without supervision and on one occasions even helped us with an issue we had while we were out of town and could not get family to go by the house. As described they've done numerous work for us before including HVAC system replacement, service and maintenance, and electrical. Our next big project is another HVAC system replacement, this time we're going green with geothermal and installing a whole house generator, and Kellam will undoubtedly be doing it!
Description of Work: Kellam's last visit was for some electrical renovations, including recessed ceiling lights, a new bath fan, and some miscellaneous troubleshooting. We have used them prior to this for an AC System replacement and annual maintenance on our heating and cooling systems.

Called a number of companies on the morning of independence Day because our AC stopped working over night. All the companies doubled their prices because of the day being a holiday and advised me to wait until Tuesday. I called Kellam after reading the good reviews on Angie's List. Scott called me back and said that someone could be out here shortly. The surcharge was very reasonable and double their normal price. Also, it seemed as though Scott and his crew were actually out working as opposed to the other companies that would call me back and shy away from coming out because of the holiday. The technician, Matt, showed up at the time that was promised and explained everything as he was inspecting the unit. Fixed the problem in a few minutes and took the time to answer all of my questions. When the day began I thought that to get my AC fixed today was going to be impossible and very expensive. I am very thankful for Kellam Mechanical's promptness, honesty, and work-ethic. Now I can enjoy the Holiday!
Description of Work: Troubleshooting AC unit which resulted in finding a faulty capacitor. Replaced capacitor. Was very satisfied with service, specially for a holiday, so i signed up for their service plan.
