Irish Accents & Renovations

After looking at a variety of contractors and reviewing them on Angie's List and their websites, I asked two colleagues of mine who had recent bath renovations done who they would recommend. Irish Accents & Renovations (owner Val Little) was already on my short list and I had gotten an estimate from him for the work. When my friends told me that Val had done the work for them and how pleased they were with the results, I chose Irish Accents. This is a small business which focuses on one customer/one job at a time. Val Little, the owner, was onsite every day of the process. He employs two workers, Kenny and John. Val is hands on and did all the carpentry work himself. Kenny is a talented tile setter with an eye for detail. All three of them work to a high standard and are genial and happy to explain things as they went along and listen to your thoughts. They easily accept suggestions, like where to put a wall plug, outlet or light, or the pattern for the tile. If something won't work, they explain why without issue. We did two change orders as work progressed - the pocket door and the walls in the half bath. Since I suspected that we might have a leak problem in our 26 year old bath, I wanted the new floor and shower to be water proofed using Schluter products. Both Val and Kenny were qualified to install these products, having attended the required classes for contractors taught by Schluter. This did drive the cost of materials up a bit over using concrete board and a paint on water proofing. When Val opened the walls and floor around the shower, we discovered a 2 foot diameter hole in the subfloor, some rotten wall studs and floor plate, and a partially rotten floor joist. This was all repaired. They generally started work about 9 am and finished anywhere from 3 pm to 6 pm depending upon what element of the job they were working at the time. They regularly worked without taking a lunch break. They would stop at logical points, avoiding leaving an element partially done. Each day they would clean up and on Fridays they thoroughly cleaned up, including removing protective coverings on the floor and cleaning everything. They do not work on weekends. Since they were working in a first floor master, with a door to the back porch and deck, they used the back deck as a work area for cutting tile using a wet saw. This made quite a mess on the wooden deck, even though they covered it with plastic sheeting. Without my prompting, the back deck and porch were scrubbed clean of all porcelain dust and debris. In fact the deck looks better after they left than it did before they arrived. Val used the driveway for carpentry and swept and cleaned it everyday. They used our garage to stage materials and tools out of the weather and for some prep work, so half of the two car garage was not usable for parking during the entire renovation. They also used the deep sink in our garage, which proved handy for paint clean up. They used the hose and spigot in the back yard as well. As I said earlier, this is a small company with the owner onsite working. Although Val is happy to help with design and suggest places to purchase tile and fixtures, his estimate is for labor and rough-in materials only. The customer is responsible for purchasing all finish materials. Val will happily pick up any materials. He will also purchase some materials and pass the cost to the customer without markup, providing receipts. In our case this was the Schluter system materials which are available at Mosaic Tile in VB. The entire job, renovating two bathrooms, took 4 weeks. The cost listed in this review is for labor and rough-in materials only. I would highly recommend Irish Accents and Renovations to anyone doing a bath or kitchen remodel or a partial remodel. Their attention to detail is exceptional and their work ethic is admirable. They are easy to work with and do not mind daily interaction with the customer. As an aside, Val fixed our sagging porch screen door and changed the lightbulbs on the 12 foot ceiling in the garage simply out of kindness. This company will be my first choice for any future bath or kitchen remodeling.

Val is awesome. Work began at the expected time and was completed in the expected time. He and his guys did a perfect job on the bathroom renovation. It looks great. He is personally a wonderful guy, easy to talk to and very responsive by phone and text, something I really appreciate regarding specifics as the job progressed. He has great attention to detail as well. All in all a great experience compared with my last renovation.

Excellent work. Workers arrived on time each day and cleaned up at the end of the day. Owner offered suggestions on best way to complete the project and the project was completed on time. We were pleased with the overall quality of the work that was done.

Val responded promptly to my request for an estimate kept me informed on work start date. 1. Val and his crew removed the plaster board and studs on both closets, then constructed rough openings for 2 pre-hung doors 4 ft wide. 2. Pre-hung door frames were installed along with trim. Doors were painted, installed and adjusted for proper closure. 3. Finally baseboards, and dummy door handles were installed. An estimated 3-day job was completed in two days. Very professional in all aspects. We are pleased with the outcome of this project and would consider hiring Val for future work.

Everything went very well. Val is technically savvy, professional and punctual. His estimates matched the final bill exactly. All purchase receipts were provided with the final bill. I got a lot of value for the money and the house is now in much better and safer condition.

They always do a great job. I will continue to use them and recommend their service.

It was completed professionally and in a timely manner. The finished product is absolutely gorgeous. We had the contractor come back to install a new tile floor in our guest bathroom, and soon to update our kitchen. I would certainly recommend this contractor to family and friends, and would hire them again for any additional work to be done in our home.

Val was a pleasure to work with. I value those who are responsive, punctual, and fair and Val was all of the above. I had unique concepts for my kitchen and Val wanted to be kept in the loop the entire way. Despite the snow days and holidays, Val was really flexible with my work schedule and did most of it when I didn't need to be home. This was incredibly helpful as it would have taken much longer to finish if I didn't trust him to be there alone. If plans ever changed, he would notify me immediately. He was helpful with professional suggestions for outside hire and never once made me feel unsure or uncomfortable about the project. I had a vision for my kitchen and as a team we completely nailed it. This was my first big renovation project on our first home and I am thrilled to have had a wonderful experience with Val as my right hand. Thanks so much for all your hard work, I can't wait to enjoy my kitchen!

Wonderfully! Val is very professional and exact in his work. He is trustworthy...the first time we used him we left town and he renovated the kitchen. I would not hesitate to do it again. The people he brings in to work are very professional, also. I would recommend him to anyone.

Val Little, is a great handyman very informative and did great work!!! He is really nice and helped do extra work around my house. I would recommend him and use him for any future work around my house!! I decided to paint my house so I just had him do the drywall work and plaster cage out great!

Val was easy to work with and responded promptly to any questions that we had. The trim was installed professionally and we are very pleased. I would recommend Irish Accents and would use again.

The work performed was precise. The tile was installed with accuracy and water flow to drain was spot on.

Val Little gave me very good design ideas that I had not previously considered, which turned out to be excellent suggestions.He was very responsive to emails and phone calls and started and completed the job timely. Val was willing to work with me, as I did the painting and installing of bead board. His employee, Kenny, was punctual, worked through his lunch, very conscientious and did excellent work.

It was a wonderful experience from the first meeting to the completion of the project. The cost was reasonable. I had 3 other estimates from highly rated remodlers. Val and his team were very professional, enthusiastic, responsive, and listened very carefully to our ideas. Many times, Val was able to fine tune our original plan which greatly enhanced the design aesthetics and space utilization. Irish Accents attention to details and quality of work were their top priorities. There were no surprise charges, despite the fact that Irish Accents ended up doing more work than was originally anticipated. There were preexisting issues with shoddy orginal construction that were uncovered during the demolition and had to be corrected before the new work started. Val guided us through all the stages of construction and helped us eliminate any needless concerns. Val and his team worked diligently everyday taking only a short break for lunch.Val was excellenr about communicating back and forth with us on a very timely basis. His team cleaned up after themselves every night and clearly took pride in their work. Val is a master craftsman. But, I was greatly impressed with his ability to utilize every inch of space which was paramount with this project. He was able to accommodate everything on our " wish list" in a challenging and tight area. The result was astonishing! It was better than we expected. Every detail was perfect and completed to a high level of quality. Based on our satisfaction with this project, we plan on using Irish Accects, again. Without reservation, we give Irish Accents and Remodling our strongest recommendation.

Val was able to give me an estimate with in couple days of contact. It was only days before his estimate (along with contract) arrived. We discussed other questions and start/completed dates and I signed the contract. I had been to big box stores and had a pretty good idea of how I wanted to look, I got the name of the supplier he uses for many things and he assisted me (he was on vacation but had set this up for me.) I loved the vanity I saw there and staff were wonderful. I went back to big box stores and websites for most of the rest. I love bath and already found towels that will match the vanity. Definitely use again and I've already recommended to a friend.

Very well. At all times, Val Little worked with us for any scheduling difficulties. Any minor concerns were immediately addressed and the response was always that he would work until it was done to our satisfaction.

Out of four other companies Irish Accents & Renovations was the only business that was able to replace my wood flooring and match the coloring. He did an excellent job! It was the most outstanding company I have ever had. The owner and the workers came out, put on booties when entering my home and were absolute professionals. They were amazing and I cannot say enough about them. They also guarantee all of his work and has called back to follow up on the service. I will definitely recommend him and absolutely use him, again.

We love it! Val is the ultimate professional. Not only was he easy to have around and incredibly tidy, but his work was immaculate. We look forward to hiring Val for our next project.

It was great. Val was going to be out of town between time of contract signing and start date. He had given me some of his sources so I could go and look for products. Bought a beautiful vanity and flooring from one. Rest purchased at big box stores. This is for a rarely used bathroom, so I economized. Val installed new bathtub and subway tile. Also replaced toilet. Did a wonderful paint job, Was helpful when I asked questions about lighting and made suggestions which I followed. He was always on time and cleaned up every day. We were always able to reach him via text even in the evenings. Good subcontractors too. (plus, he didn't laugh or chide about the outlandish the color was !!!!)

Great!......Val had done some work on our kitchen a month or so earlier (which we're thoroughly enjoying!).....I called him after we had the florescent light fixture above the sink switched out to a pendant light and he graciously came by a few days after my call and beautifully repaired the ceiling. As my past reviews have indicated, I highly recommend Val for big projects as well as smaller repair jobs. He's does great work, has the knowledge and expertise to implement changes when unexpected challenges arise and always cleans up on a daily basis before leaving. He's definitely the contractor we will use when future projects are planned.

Val is an excellent contractor & worker. He doesn’t quit until the job is done to your satisfaction. I would certainly use him again.

Val did a great job with our kitchen. He even went to Home Depot himself to look up specifics of our tiles and buy sealers to do the sealing properly. He is a great professional and we trusted him to be in our house while we were gone. Would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking to have work done.

Several contacts with Irish Accents from both myself and my wife to which we were told they would let their electrical contractor know... he never contacted. Anyway this goes on for a few weeks... frustrated I give up and decide to just get my money back having bought the deal through Angles lust. Well to my surprise according to phone guy Jeff they can only issue refunds within the thirty day point. SO point of story try not to buy projects through Angles lust and if you do make sure to cancel before the ALMIGHTY 30 day period if the yahoo's fail to get the job done!!!
