Working with Jim was great. I had a general idea of what I wanted and worked with him to get the design I wanted. Between our two work schedules, it was a challenge to coordinate the initial meeting due to my distance from home. Jim was very understanding and managed his schedule to work with my time constraints. He returned all my calls in a timely manner and added a great deal of value to the overall design. The pantry is just what I wanted and the price was within my budget. I will gladly call GHI again for more projects.

Came when he said he would, performed the job well, door looks great.

Jim was a professional, pleasant, honest and a hard worker. He took care of everything we needed done and offered help for things we had just accepted. He's great to work with and he comes prepared, ready to do his job.

Didn't go well at all - he has been out twice to measure the door and window I wanted to have replaced. Four weeks have gone by and I am still waiting for his estimate and a timeframe to complete the work.

We left a message for an estimate to convert our living room into a bedroom as our son needed to move back in ASAP. Jim called back within 24 hours,came that week, gave us a good price, and made us feel like we could trust his workmanship. Jim and Dave exceeded any expectations when it came to our remodel. The entire project went very well. He arrived on time every day, performed quality work at a reasonable price, and completed the job on time.

One of the builder's vendors damaged the floor joists when installing electrical. The builder tried to brace up the damaged joists and then overstressed the 2x4s trying to eliminate board sqeeks and groans. We didn't know this until Jim opened the floorboards and found the damage. This has bothered me for years. JIm stayed with the job even though the damage caused by faulty installation continued to cause problems. Eventually he was able to repair the damage and replace the noisy particle boards with plywood. I'm very pleased.

Jimmy was very responsive. He met me at the house and gave me an estimate the same day that I contacted him. He completed work the next day. It took a great deal of workmanship to fit the new newel post in place and tie it into the the floor securely. The end result is an attractive post that is solidly fixed in place. The quality of the work was excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to use Jimmy for future woodworking projects.

He did a fantastic job, and had suggestions for me so that my other projects and future repairs would be easier. We are going to have him back to replace a window in the near future (it is already on order). He was thorough, on time, and fair in the price. He let us know in advance that he wouldn't know the full extent of the damage or cost until he opened the walls up to start the work. Once he did, he was really fast, and did superior work. We had our kitchen tile removed in preparation for installation of hardwood floors. Once the tile was removed we discovered the floor was not level. Not only was it not level but one corner was lower by over an inch. In addition, two door frames were too high off the floor once tile was removed and would leave a hideous gap between the hardwood and the bottom of the door frames. We could not continue with the install of the hardwood floors until these issues were resolved. We went to Angie's list to get a couple of quotes on what it would take to fix the floor. When we contacted Jimmie from General Home Improvements, we were relieved that he could come out the next day to look at the job and see what could be done. He actually pulled up some of the flooring that same day to see just what needed to be done. He came back over the next few days and did the work himself. This was not a typical job and he had the experience, expertise and creativity to determine the best solution to level the floor with minimal disruption. By the end of the 4th day the floor was level and the doors were lowered, as well as baseboards installed in the pantry to finish off the walls. Jimmie made sure we were able to use the kitchen each night before he left and kept the area clean. We are very impressed with Jimmie's ability to see the problem, come up with the solution and get the job done. We will definitely have him back to work on other issues. We found his work professional, very high quality and reasonably priced. We strongly recommend General Home Improvements to anyone needing repairs to their home.

His price is not the cheapest, but his quality is so good that it is far superior and so is his craftsmanship.

Jim responded promptly and is focused on doing quality work. He gave me confidence that he could complete the job. He collected information to give me a quote, then upon approval, promptly executed the job. I could not be more thrilled with the work that was performed!

A rare find. Will definitely call Jim for any project I need done on my home. He's got three words on the side of his van; "RELIABLE, QUALITY, WORKMANSHIP." Definite truth in advertising. He arrived on time and had the work done when promised. He not only pulled and replaced the rotted wood trim pieces, but installed drip edging where needed, so the wood won't rot in the future. (Something the original builders failed to do.) He also did a fabulous job on our back porch; put up soffit on the sides and ceiling. Very detailed and professional work. It looks amazing! Jim definitely knows his trade and the right products to use for the job. So refreshing to find someone with old school standards of workmanship and professionalism!

Mr. Jim is a professional in all aspects. He was responsive to my request for a quote, listened to what I wanted him to do, helped me get the list of items needed for the task, etc. It wasn't a really big job, but we needed someone who "knew what they were doing" to build and hang the doors. His price was fair and his work was very good. He came prepared with all the necessary tools and skill to perform the task, he handled every issue with professionalism and was very good to work with. I would highly recommend him for any carpentry or trim job. I'm very happy with his performance at my house and the doors look fantastic; now, all I have to do is paint them!

Jimmy did an outstanding job! Our cabinets were custom built and the one needed to be shortened over the refrigerator. Jimmy was able to get the cabinet down from the wall, shorten it and reinstall it - you would not know it wasn't the cabinet that was originally installed. He returned my initial call promptly. He came over one day to see exactly what we were looking to have done and we agreed upon a price and date he'd return. He arrived with all the necessary tools. I can't say how much I appreciated his patience and diligence to make the cabinet look perfect. He's personable and professional. We will definitely call Jimmy in the future as we have some other things we would like to have done. Definitely a business card we'll keep and share with friends who are looking for an excellent carpenter.

Everything went well. Jim was very prompt coming out to look at the job even though we are not close to his house. He came out the very next day to do the job. He is professional, very knowledgeable, trustworthy, neat and even my dog who is a great judge of character liked him.

He gave me a date and time he would be there to do the work, and he was there as promised. The work was done and the structure is again sound. He left the work area in my home neat and clean. As far as we are concerned, JImmy Koehler's General Home Improvements is our go-to and we will recommend him to neighbors, friends, and family without reservation. He is fair, honest, and reasonable, and his work is superior because of his meticulous attention to detail. He is a Class A contractor with a depth and breadth of knowledge that allows him to move effortlessly through a job. As an added bonus, his people skills are superb, allowing the client to be a part of the team and construction process. Additionally, he keeps his job site clean and is considerate of his clients' needs and homes. We are already hiring him again for the next series of jobs!

The work is to notch and the craftsmanship is of the highest quality. My wife and I are both very happy with the custom carpentry that Jim had done for us, and he did it at a very fair price.

Jim took my job on short notice, dropped everything else he was doing in order to help me out when I was in a tight spot. Right away it was obvious that he was very knowledgeable but also very friendly, and willing to take the time to hear what we wanted done, to ensure that we got exactly that. He even took the time to educate me on some DIY projects I had going... He was even kind enough to loan me some of his own tools. He did a great job, he did it quickly, and at a very fair price.... in fact for about a third of what my other estimates were.

Jim came out and took off the siding around the window, exposing the extensive damage. He also located how the problem started and therefore fixed the issue so it wouldn't happen again. He replaced the fascia board, the soffit, put in a new header and window sill, foam insulation board and replaced the brick molding around the window. He did 90% of the job the first day, putting in 6.5 hours and only stopping to go get materials at lunch time. And he did all this in 90 degree heat. By the end of the day he was exhausted and came back the next morning to put the siding back on. The window never looked so good!

He was responsive to my request and arrived as scheduled. It was a difficult task with a warped door frame. He meticulously worked his magic to make the new door fit like it was made for it. Works perfectly!
