We saw Scott Cole's ad on Angie's List and read the reviews and decided he would be the one we would call based on what we read. We contacted Scott and he was able to schedule the visit around our work schedule. The electrician was professional and found the cause of the problem - my husband had recently replaced the outlets in the house because we had done some remodeling and decided to change the outlets at the same time. Not that my husband was the problem! But he had a couple of wires that were loose in one of the outlets and it had ground the current which set off the GFCI receptacle in the master bath and caused a chain reaction. This was also the case with the sunroom which he had replaced five and one (the one he didn't check) was also grounding out. I may not be using the correct terminology in describing the fix but I can sleep now knowing that the electrical issue we had was taken care of without having to knock down walls and every other major thing I was imagining would have to be done to find the problem. I've already recommended Scott to one of my co-workers who is in need of good electrician...I told her this one is great! Thank you Scott - if we ever are in need of electrical services again you will definitely be the one we call.

Your husband was just trying to make his wife happy I'm sure . Happy wife , happy life I always say ! Loose connections are very common when homeowners decide to change receptacles and switches themselves. It seems so easy . Just take out the old and install the new. This can lead to problems down the road if not done properly resulting in loose connections at the device which can heat up as you use that circuit. Now it is very common to change the color of the devices when remodeling or painting. I'm glad it was a simple fix and minimum service call. Thank you for your referral.

Cole Electric was very professional. I called on Friday afternoon and they came able to not only assess but also to do the job on Saturday morning. Part of the crew was there by 8 and began the job on time. They were joined later by 2 others and they finished by mid-afternoon after checking that all the breakers were working properly and were labeled. I was always consulted before any task was done and I was able to speak to the owner before, during,, and after completion of the job. He offered to fax paperwork to my insurance agent should I decide to file a claim. (I didn't.) He also followed up with a call to find out if I were satisfied with the job. (I was.) Everyone was courteous and considerate. They even did an excellent job of repairing the dry wall in my garage where the breaker panel had been replaced.
Description of Work: Replaced and upgraded my circuit breaker panel. Also replaced the outside connections on my A/C units which were rusting out.

It's great to hear we were very professional . Your original call about the dishwasher tripping the breaker turned out to be much more . After an initial panel box inspection to check the breaker we found your entire electrical panel box had burned up inside. If not replaced right on the spot we would have been risking the chance of a panel / house fire which could only cost more , not to mention the potential for personal injury. When a panel takes a surge or lightning strikes near the property it's possible that can result in a panel problem. If left undetected it can fester behind the panel box cover getting hotter and doing more damage every time you use your power in your home. Eventually something either quits working , trips a breaker or you smell a plastic burning smell. If you don't know better some people just reset the breaker until it won't reset anymore. Breakers tripping are your first sign of potential trouble and should be checked out by a qualified electrical contractor. Burned up panels are sometimes covered by insurance so I always like to remind our customers in case they want to make a claim since it can be time sensitive to qualify for reinbursement from insurance companies giving them a chance to see the damage. In this case I'm glad we were able to prioritize your emergency repair and leave your home safer than when we came. I hope other members will understand if we cancel or reschedule their appointment when necessary to accommodate a customer with a situation like yours. Thank you .

We called Cole Electric 2 days ago for a free estimate. Scheduled for today at 8AM, they were on time (actually a little early), looked at the job, quoted us a price and we hired them to do the job on the spot. They went right to work, and just left about 30 minutes ago. We were more than happy with the installation and work they performed. They will definatly be our electricins from now on. I called for an appointment. Scott Cole (owner) was great. He set an appt to accommodate my schedule. On the day of the appt, Dylan arrived on time, troubleshot the problem, advised the cost, and, once I approved it, went ahead and did the work. Both Scott and Dylan were very professional, efficient. I also asked for an estimate to install lighting fixture in a dark closet. The estimate seemed a little high, so I did not go ahead with that work. However, I have not obtained other estimates for the same work. It may have been standard for that kind of work. All in all, though, a good experience. I would definitely use Cole Electric again.
Description of Work: Fixed two outlets/circuit that was not working. Caulked interior and caulked and weatherproofed exterior outlet covers.

Absolutely fantastic service! Mr. Cole answered the phone and was able to send his guys out the next day at the time I decided was most convenient for my schedule. The gentlemen showed up promptly on time. They thoroughly inspected all possible issues but did not try to sell me on any un-needed services. They worked quickly and professionally to correct improper wiring and bring my kitchen and garage (safely and correctly) back online. I was very happy with the price for the amount of work they did under the house, in the kitchen, bathroom and garage.
Description of Work: Kitchen GFI group and Garage GFI group outlets stopped working. GFI breaker on panel was tripped and would not reset. Upon inspection, Coles electricians found that both kitchen group and garage group circuits were fed into the same GFI breaker. Circuits were split so that they both had their own GFI breaker on the panel. Wiring in crawl space below kitchen was found by Coles electricians to be loosely placed next to each other with a too-large ring around the wires. All wire connections were tightened, twisted and capped together to ensure complete circuit. Bathroom GFI recepitcal was changed out with proper reciptical for an outlet on a GFI breaker.

They didn’t fix the problem. They changed the breaker and said that they fixed it. But they didn’t fix it. I tried to get him come back out but he didn’t come back. I had to email them the address in the subject line and tell them what you need done in the body of the email. Then they will call you and come out and do it. I don’t need to take two weeks after a phone call to fix that. The kid who came out was a good kid and he did a good job. I liked him. He was very pleasant and a nice kid. Though they charged $100 an hour, it didn't fix the initial problem. The work they did I guess was good. I would not like to give a grade for quality. They didn't respond when I needed them to. The work the kid came out and did was good.

Sir, I am truly sorry you feel that way ? When we came out shortly after the flooding that occurred in your neighborhood after the hurricane we tried to resolve your problem . Sometimes a problem like a tripping breaker can have many causes making it difficult to put to rest. After checking everything we could the only thing left was a possible bad breaker ? We replaced it to remove that from the equation. Your breaker did not trip while we were there after that ? You called back to tell me it wasn't fixed and I offered to come back out. We called you several times leaving messages and when you finally answered the phone you stated you were out of town. When I'm in the field working I ask that customers email so it does get addressed. It is possible that you have a bad underground wire going to your detached garage that could get water in it when it rains or floods then dries out allowing the breaker to be reset ? Without a followup call if it's not tripping while we are there then how could we know we still have a problem ? I appreciate your business and comments but that was no "kid" at your home. Mason is a mechanic well versed in troubleshooting and a valuable asset to our team. We pride ourselves by our reputation and make every effort to see jobs through to the end. I called to ask if they could look at a problem I had been having with my house breaker tripping for no apparent reason. I had another electrician look at it in the past and he said that the service wires coming into the house were loose and he tightened them. A week later, I was without power throughout the house again. Cole Electric promptly set up an appointment for the next time during the week that I was available (as opposed to when THEY were available) and asked that I send a picture of my circuit breaker box to them. They arrived at the scheduled time, with enough spare parts to fix my issue whatever it was -- considering that my appointment was in the afternoon on a Friday, I REALLY appreciated that they came prepared to resolve my issue prior to the weekend. Within a half hour of arriving, they diagnosed and resolved my problem -- a faulty main breaker. The electrician took the time to show me the issue and explain how he proposed to fix it, with price quote (including Angie's List discount) and also to tell me what other options I had. Once I concurred with his proposal, he quickly replaced the main breaker and restored power to my house. He also took the time to inspect the circuit bus to ensure it wasn't damaged, and had a spare in the truck had an issue been found there as well. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and I will contact them again when I have a need for a qualified electrician.

A new reliable Square D service panel to protect your home wiring and in the event of a power outage you can " plug " in your generator with one larger cord and eliminate the use of extension cords. The add on generator interlock makes it safe to ensure no backfeed from the power company when power is restored. The price is affordable compared to the whole house automaic generators. It was our pleasure and we hope to see you again when the need arises.

Do expect a crew to show up on their way to another job if your job is small. They do the small jobs while in route to the larger jobs, so coordinating an advance time is a challenge, but Mr. Cole assures me it is the best way to save his customers money - and I believe him!
Description of Work: I contacted Cole Electric for a estimate for what I have since learned is a small job at my daughter's house (she is disabled). Mr. Cole was on the ball and initiated contact with me in a matter of hours. If I'd known how the process works, it would've likely worked great, but I was clueless. They called to let us know they were on the way over at the same time as the crew arrived. We could never seem to coordinate a time to have them pop by and, with my odd work schedule and my daughter and her children sick, we could never seem to make it work. Mr. Cole is very dedicated to his work and the most responsive contractor I have ever dealt with. I wish we could've coordinated a time, as he sounds like a no-nonsense, get the job done kind of guy.

Scott Cole showed up the very next day. He explained several options giving the pro's & cons of each option. I wasn't going to get more estimates at first, but decided to contact three more contractors for estimates. Two never responded back and one wanted $30 for an estimate. Scott did it for FREE!I scheduled a service date with Cole's for 9-6-2011 between 8 & 9 AM, the electricians showed up at 7:40 AM!!!!!!! They changed the panel box, installed the generator switch, made plaster repairs, cleaned up, and showed me how to use the generator switch!I don't foresee any issues surfacing, but was assured by the electricians that Cole Electric would be there fore me!

We called Cole Electric in the morning, told the owner our problem and three hours later two technicians arrived (even earlier than they scheduled). They figured out what was wrong with our outlets and replaced the damaged one. They checked our breaker box and even looked at some other electrical concerns we had. The technicians were professional, prompt and friendly. I gave a B-rating on price because it was $150 for under an hours worth of work. I was informed of their pricing before they came so I was not surprised by the price. That price is also factoring in the Angie's List discount. However, we did not want to mess with electrical after the lightening so we were willing to pay it. Although I think it is a bit pricey, the service was excellent so I would definitely call them again.

I contacted Cole Electric via email and Scott Cole replied that same day and came out and gave an estimate the very next day. He explained everything to me and said he could do the whole installation, minus the ductwork that we needed. He recommended that we find a roofing company to do that part of the job. Our house is over 30 years old, so of course the fans need the ductwork out to the roof as the soffit vents are too far from the bathrooms--which Steve had to explain to me what that actually meant. He is a very patient man. I am extremely impressed that he took the time to explain and answer all my questions. I had a roofing co. come out the next day to try to coordinate the work, and get on their schedule. They came out but I never heard back from them. Scott followed up with me and he also tried to call the roofing co.--I thought THAT was above and beyond! But, they did not return his calls either. Nevertheless, the vent fans are in (minus the ductwork for now) and I think they did an outstanding job. Professionally done within the week and I feel the price was very good for the job. They also get points because they were nice to my cat. I like this company, I know we'll need them again and I will definitely call them!

Scott Cole was extremely friendly and pleasant to work with. He advised me which supplies to purchase beforehand to save money. His prices were reasonable, and the electricians were extremely professional and courteous. I received "same day service", which was a pleasant surprise. The electricians were thorough, and the work was aesthetically pleasing (better than expected). They even cleaned up after they were finished (including vacuuming). I will definitely use them in the future and highly recommend their services.

We bought a house that was built in 1957. Our initial inspector said that all the electrical was good to go and everything was fine. Turns out he didn't do such a good inspection. We had squirrel damage to several wires! That was our initial problem. A while after we found we had squirrel damage, we also discovered that our 'grounded' outlets weren't actually grounded at all. So we called Scott Cole and he came out the next day and went over all the things that we were concerned with and gave us a good explanation of how the whole process would work. He was very honest and was honorable. What I mean by that is although he could have told us that he needed to replace all the wiring (estimated at over $10k), he focused on making sure we got only what we really needed and didn't try to fill his pockets with greedy money. I really respect this kind of work ethic! The next day his crew came out (Mason and Dillon) and got right to work in the attic despite the 115 degree weather outside. What they worked on during this first phase of our electrical work was to replace or fix the ungrounded outlets and repair the damage done to the wiring by the squirrels. Mike and Kenny also came out and ran a new circuit to give us 4 new 20amp grounded outlets in our upstairs. Now we can plug in our computers and television in without worry! I will definitely give Scott a call in the future for all of our electrical work! It was great to have a team that obviously worked very well together. These guys are outstanding professionals!

We hired Cole's Electric to do a variety of electrical work for us after 1) they immediately returned our initial call, 2) they came out the next day and gave us an estimate, and 3) told us they could start work immediately! They were fast, professional, courteous, pleasant and clean - didn't leave behind a single piece of stray wire or sawdust! All leftover materials (boxes from the ceiling fans, etc.) taken to the garage for disposal. An absolute joy from start to finish!
Description of Work: We had them install seven ceiling fans, three ceiling light fixtures, seven fan speed and light dimmer switches, and install (wiring, switch and mount) a light over our garage work bench. Still to go are mounting a chandelier in our dining room and three pendant lights over our kitchen bar.

From the first call, I was impressed with Cole Electrical. Scott did a great job getting the info and making sure that I understood the pricing; then, offered several options for the appointment. It turned out that a technician could be on site on a saturday morning (as opposed to waiting until Monday) at no extra charge. Mike arrived on time and fully prepared for the job at hand. He took care of the exterior outlet with no problem (diagnosing what another electrician could not figure out) and everything so well, that I asked about lowering a double light-switch that was causing problems. After new kitchen cabinets were installed, we discovered that a light switch was to close to the cabinet. Two separate electricians had said that there was nothing that could be done without removing the cabinets and causing more problems. Mike took a look and in 5 minutes came up with a plan. One hour later the project was finished even to the point of Mike plastering the hole where the previous switch was located. Absolutely, great service!

Many thanks to Scott and team! One an especially hot holiday weekend, our tenants informed us that our rental house was having ghost fluctuations as various rooms and devices stopped working for prolonged periods yet no breakers ever tripped. They endured a night without AC and were concerned about potential fire risks when they notified us. I was worried about finding an electrician on short notice over a holiday weekend but Cole Electric answered my call for assistance promptly and helped me understand the likely sources. They recommended I contact Dominion Power and kept an electrician on standby. When Dominion showed they found a faulty meter box and dangerously frayed cables leading from it. Dominion Power was planning to secure all power to the house when they notified me to contact an electrician to make remaining repairs. This would have left the tenants without electricity over the 3-day weekend. When I relayed this information to Scott he was confident that there was a better way to handle it and took it upon himself contact the Dominion Power field team and encourage them to correct the problem before departing for the weekend. He then sent a team member to my property to meet with them in person and ensure they were going to make the repair promptly. Serving as an intermediary and an advocate for my tenants, Scott was able to get Dominion Power to perform the previously "impossible" repairs and had power restored within hours. Having spent a good portion of his Saturday on the phone and sending a team to the site I was prepared to pay a well deserved holiday service charge but he refused it as he felt it was "just the right thing to do". He kept me from falling victim to unnecessary delays and repairs while minimizing impact to my tenant's welfare. Cole's honesty and trustworthiness with a welcome find and I will not hesitate to call them in them future.

A lot of times intermittent power can be the result of a power delivery issue either overhead of underground coming to the meter-base ( where your power meter is ) ? People call saying some things work fine and others only partially or not at all ? Rather than send out a technician I ask a few questions first and sometimes recommend the customer call the power company first to find out if it's there responsibility . If it is they can fix it at no charge to their customer. If not I'll send someone out when needed. This way my customer doesn't pay me for a service call just for telling them to call Dominion Power since it's their issue. I find more customers appreciate the honesty rather than send out a truck ( at holiday rates ) charging for something we can't fix leaving the customer feeling like they wish they would have known better ? It builds relationships for the future although we may lose revenue in the short term . In your case there was a problem in the meter-base and originally the power company technician suggested call an electrician then call us back and we will come back out ? I was able to speak with him on site and convince him to try to make temporary repairs to avoid leaving the tenant without power till the day after the holiday. Before sending my technician home for the holiday he stopped by just to make sure . We were happy to see they were willing & able to repair the problem as I suggested. We may have lost a job but we gained another potential customer and we slept well that night knowing we had done the right thing in this case for both the tenant and the Angie's List Member that chose to call us instead of the rest ...

We called Cole Electric, and they responded pretty quickly to our call. The appliance repairman had showed us several reasons why it was the electrical, and we went over this with the electrician when he came. After telling us several times that he thought it was our dryer, he finally noticed their was arcing in our panel at the circuit for the dryer. He didn't have the part, which I thought was strange since we had called specifically about an electrical problem associated with our dryer. After, picking up the part and installing it, he told us how much it was going to be. We received no invoice or breakdown of costs. I was asked to make out the check to a person and not to Cole Electric. I will not use this company again, because of the lack of paperwork and billing procedure.
Description of Work: We were having trouble with our electric dryer, and we had an appliance repairman check it out. He determined it wasn't the appliance but the electrical that was our problem. Dryer circuit ended up being replaced.

First I want to apologize if you don't think we met your expectations. I spoke with the electrician that was at your home and fixed the problem. I'll try to explain our actions. When he arrived he was told that the circuit breaker would trip sometimes. This can happen for several different reasons. He checked the dryer outlet and wiring . He had full power to the outlet . Now sometimes we have a "ghost " problem that can be intermittent ? The arcing he noticed on the breaker was a result of a loose connection. On a newer home such as yours you would not normally see that happen ? Unable to be sure if the breaker would fail in the future he went and purchased a new breaker and installed it. Since we have a $150.00 minimum service call plus parts your net after the Angie's List Discount was applied was 150.00. I will forward another receipt in the mail. I'm comfortable our technician did everything he could to give you the service you deserve. Again, I regret we left you feeling unsatisfied.

I called them on around 9AM on a Tuesday and the owner, Scott Cole said he could meet me in 30 minutes and give me an estimate. Once I got to the house he showed up 5 minutes later. He looked at what needed to be done and gave me a quote right then and there. We made arrangements to start the work a week later. They arrived on time at 8AM, I showed them where the panel was and then left for work. I got a phone call around 1PM to say they were in the process of labeling all the breakers. I arrived home just as they were finishing with the panel. They had to cut some dry wall to install the new box and to re-route some of the wires, they patched it and all I had to do the next day was a light sanding and paint it. They left the area just as clean as when they got there. Later that afternoon Scott called me to ask if I was pleased with the work and to make arrangements for the City inspector to come by. The next day the City inspector came by and inspected the work and signed off on the work. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone who needs electrical work done.
Description of Work: Installed a new circuit breaker panel, connector box for my generator and made an extension cord to connect my generator to the panel.

Called Thursday morning and the company owner, Mr Scott Cole, personally answered the phone call. He sent a crew by that afternoon to scope the job and provided an estimate.. They were ready to do the job on Friday morning, but because of my schedule, I held them off until the following Tuesday. Mr Scott Cole personally called me first thing Tuesday morning to let me know the crew (by individual names) was on their way. They arrived on time, were courteous, professional, and diligent in accomplishing the job. Cost was as estimated. Payment transaction was made on satisfactory completion of job. Nothing asked for at service request. My way of thinking, this is the way to run a business and would call them back to do any electrical work I might need. Thanks Scott and thanks to your crew: Mike, Dillon & Mason. It was a pleasure meeting you and doing business with you.

Team was very professional and prompt. The only item I questioned, which may be a common practice in this field that I am not aware of, is that I was given a verbal quote, not a written one. However, once I paid the verbal quote (when the work was complete), I received an invoice in the mail (marked paid) within a day or two.
