When we visited Carpet Hut, the owner gave us a detailed explanation of the different types of carpet available and the relative cost and life of each. They visited the home and measured. We selected a carpet and they set up an installation day. The carpet was installed in one day and we were extremely pleased with the results. Virginia Beach
Description of Work: They replaced all the carpet throughout our condominium (both sales and installation).

I actually found Carpet Hut using the Google search term and quot;install vinyl floorand quot;. Carpet hut was the only name that came up that actually advertised that they would install the flooring. I went to the store on 10/6/12 and worked initially with a young woman, and unfortunately, I don't remember her name or any of the names of the people who ultimately worked on this job. I told her that I was looking for medium priced sheet vinyl and she helped me pick out what I wanted. The price for the vinyl was approximately $350.00. I then told her that I needed the floor installed before 10/12/12. At that point the manager of the store got involved and explained that he had 2 large jobs that were ahead of me and that it was unlikely they could install the floor in the time-frame I asked. Completely reasonable and I said that I would work with their schedule. The manager came out to give me an estimate for the installation on 10/8/12 and at that time told me they might be able to do the installation on 10/11/12. He also worked with me on how much the installation was going to cost as I had a very tight budget. He was able to tell me what was feasible for me to do on my own versus having his installers do the work and I was able to save nearly 400.00 because he was willing to tell me what I could do on my own and whether or not it would be too difficult for me. This also happened when, after removing the old vinyl and the tacks, I found there was some kind of tar-like substance. He lowered the cost of the work and chemical needed to an amount that kept me on budget. On 10/11/12, two gentlemen arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. and commenced work. They were done by 4:00 p.m. and the flooring looked spectacular. I will have to have the hardwood floors replaced within the next 24 months, and I will be using Carpet Hut.
Description of Work: Installed sheet vinyl in 1 room.

What a great experience! Larry did an excellent job measuring and made sure that everything was ready for the installation. The installation was done when promised and in the time frame promised. Not to mention that it looked wonderful. I had a great experience with Carpet Hut and will use them in the future.
Description of Work: I recently had Carpet Hut install new carpet in my home. Carpet was replaced throughout my home, with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom.

The owner and staff were wonderful on the phone. The quote and measurement process with the owner was great and very informative. The carpet installers repaired the carpet where my puppy got a hold of it and you can't tell there was ever a problem there at all. They also replaced the carpet in one of my closets (it looks brand new now). They called me to let me know they were on their way, and were quick and thorough in their work. I would definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Company owner provided a very thorough quote and came out to my home to conduct the required measurements and look at the work I wanted done. He provided me a few options from a spot repair in my carpet to a complete replacement of the carpet in the room. He answered all of my questions. His visit and quote were free, and the work he quoted me for were done to perfection for the price he quoted. The carpet was repaired, and replaced in another place of the home. The work area was cleaned up when the installers were done.

Went extremely well. Crew started on date expected and finished on schedule. Had agreement for them to install wood flooring first, give us a several day break, and then install carpeting. This gave us time to move items from room to room to allow for the installation.

Very bad experience !!!
Description of Work: As others have stated, we chose Carpet Hut because they were a long established local company with a "good" reputation. BIG MISTAKE. We purchased a product called Stare (not stair) Casing to cover are previouse carpeted stairs with hardwood. The product it's self seems to be a good and beautiful product. The sales person and Larry implied that they had installed several of them. We found out after we noticed that the technician seemed to be learning as he went, and later it.was admitted that we were the first one they had installed. The day that they arrived, it was raining and the technician wanted to bring a table saw in to our livingroom to cut the wood. Imagine the mess we would have had with saw dust. We wouldn't permit it they left and came back with a canopy to set up outside. When he did the job and had to do some cutting inside, he created so much dust that it actually set off our smoke alarm. When he laid the hardwood strips on the landing and upstairs hall they were very uneven, some so high that you could trip on them. When they reached the bottom 3 steps, they were thicker than the others and the Casing would not fit. They wanted to GRIND the stairs to make them thinner which would have made a tremendous amout of dirt. They agreed to order new casing that was bigger and would fit those stairs. Of course we had to wait for the new stairs to come in. When they arrived they did not match to existing stairs. Then we had to wait more weeks for the wood to "age" to match. In the meantime, the same technicians removed our old carpet and began laying the ceramic tile. The tile resembles a hardwood floor. When we chose the grout color, we were shown 4 samples and told they we the only ones that would match the tile. We did not like any of them but settled on one that we were assured was the best match. We wanted a very narrow 1/8 in or less but Larry told us that he had called the mfg and was told that it had to be at least 1/4 inch. ( We learned later that this type of tile is actually made to be buffered againest each other with very narrow grout) Again we didn't like it but accepted his word. The lead technician (Ronnie) was very mean spirited and spoke to harshly to his helper (constantly calling him stupid) during the entire process that even our neighbors who heard him when he was outside commented to us about his attitude. At one point, Ronnie even grabbed on to our light that was hanging from the ceiling and began pulling on it. He said it had to come down because it would be in his way. (He was working on his hands and knees laying tile!!) We would not allow it. He splattered wet cement as much as 4 feet high on our wall. Afer three days when the job was 3/4 finished, we noticed that the tile moved when we steped on it. HALT!! We called Larry and he came out and blammed the cement mfg for a bad batch. The floors had to be taked up on a Saturday when Ronnie let us know he was supposed to be off and had to give up a side job. He took his anger out on us and slung cement chunks on the walls and windows, throught the blinds. He stirred up so much dust that EVERYTHING in our house was coated white. At that point we advised Larry that Ronnie would not be permitted to enter our house again. Larry defended Ronnie every step of the way and complained that he had been with the for many years and was absoutely the best and they had no one else to do it. Finally, he subcontracted the job and the new installer did a beautiful job. He laid the tile with very narrow seams as we wanted. Also when we saw the grout that Carpet Hut delivered, the color march was awful. The new installer showed us other samples and we got the grout color that we wanted. We are actually grateful that the cement didn't dry because we would never have been happy with what Carpet Hut wanted to do. Also, before the first tile was taken up, we discovered that the grout lines woukd began at 1/4/inch and go to 1/2 inch by the end of a row. Larry told us that the uneven wood on the stair landing and upstairs hall were acceptable, but a mfg rep agreed with us that it needed to be replaced. Of course Larry insisted that only Ronnie could do it because he just didn't know anyone else to do it. We insisted that he find someone else. He did find someone else and he did a beautiful job. We also learned that the man that did the final work had a long family relationship with the Carpet Hut owner. The second tile man had done other work for Carpet Hut, so each time Larry insisted that he did't know anyone else to do the work, he was to put it bluntly, LYING. The work that should have been completed in a couple of weeks at the very most, took over 4 months from the day we signed a contract and gave them a deposit to completion. We spent many hours cleaning every surface in our house after the mess Ronnie made and spent $2500.00 to have the entire downstairs repainted. We were given a $924.00 adjustment off the bill which did not come close to compensating for our stress and additional expense. Another example of Ronnies BAD attitude, was when they were moving a sofa after the floors were torn up, Ronnie set his end of the sofa down with the upholsty touching the dirt. When my husband called him on it, his only commemt was it was only dirt and would brush off. He had no respect for us, our home or his coworker Carl who at ALL times was courteous and professional. It is appalling that Larry defends this man at all costs even after my husband told him how Ronnie "bad mouthed" him while he was working. My advise is do not go near Carpt Hut!!

Went with local company from angie's list thinking it would be better then the big box stores......I was wrong. I wanted a company that took pride in their work but found once again that you have to complain to have the right thing occur....I don't like to mother grown people. I spent a bit more money thinking I would get better service from a local company who used there own crew. The crew arrived on time and made quick work of putting down the carpet but when they had finished they called Larry (owner) to tell him that the carpet pieces laid in the master bedroom did not match. Then they told us and said that they should have measured for a wider roll. The room was wider then the 12 ft roll they ordered. I had not heard from Larry after several hours so I had to call Larry myself and tell him it was not close enough in color even though his crew had already told him the same thing. I had to tell him that I needed the carpet to match and it would need to be fixed. He was very nice about it but why did I even have to call him to tell him what the right thing was. Since it was a 5 day holiday weekend the carpet was not in till the next Tuesday 7-9-12. It went down....still not an invisable seam or an exact match but I needed to get my life back to normal.....I had lived for a week with all my bedroom furniture in my hall and other bedroom .....not to moan but it was not fun spending a week climbing over furniture, going to three rooms to gather clothes to wear to work. I received two calls from the store while I was at work and since my hours run late I did not get to call them back till after the second call and the girl from the store was surprised that I wasn't happy with the service. She said she needed to talk to Larry and I told her to do what ever was their normal company procedures ....I did not have the energy or time to badger anyone into discounting the price for delayed service. I left it to their conscience to charge my credit card the balance due. There was no discount for the delay in finishing completing the installation as they felt that was beyond their control. Things can go wrong with any service but it is the way the company handles these issues that makes the experience good or bad. I would not recommend this company....it was like dealing with whiney children who never have any fault in things that go wrong.
Description of Work: Master and guest bedroom carpets replaced. We moved the furniture and pulled up the carpet ourselves....putting the furniture in the other bedroom and the hallway. Since we moved the guest bedroom 1st....the guest bedroom furniture was blocked by the master bedroom furniture.

Response from CARPET HUT BY F V WOOLARD
We (Carpet Hut) care about every customer we serve. Our primary goals are customer service, first quality material, and professional installation. Customer satisfaction has always been our focus. Our company was founded on honesty, integrity, and service, and we still maintain that philosophy today. On 6/28/12 we installed carpet in the master bedroom and left back bedroom for this customer. When seaming the carpet in the master bedroom we were confronted with a side match in the carpet. Larry spoke with the customer and reassured her we are going to correct the carpet in her master bedroom and she was pleased. We finished the install so she could use the room and immediately re-ordered another piece of carpet. We were pleased at the speed we recieved the new carpet (due to the 4th of July weekend). We installed the new carpet on 7/9/12 and called her after completion of the job. During the week of 7/9/12 we called the customer three seperate times. After our third phone call she did return our call and expressed her unhappiness. She spoke to a sales associate and was told Larry would contact her. Larry called and left a message on her phone. We are sorry she is unhappy with our services.

THE VINYL WORKERS SPENT 1 DAY LEVELING THE CONCRETE FLOOR IN THE KITCHEN AND FOYER, THEN CAME IN AND FINISHED THE FLOOR AND INSTALLED THE VINYL. THE NEXT TIME THEY CAME. THE CARPET WORKERS COME IN WITH THE CARPETS ALL CUT AND READY TO GO DOWN. THEY TOOK UP THE OLD CARPET AND PUT THE NEW CARPET DOWN IN 5 ROOMS AND 3 CLOSETS AND 2 HALLWAYS AND CLEANED UP IN LESS THAN 5 HOURS. GREAT JOB BY ALL THE WORKERS, WHO HAVE MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.

My husband and I realized it was time to replace our 20-year-old carpet and had no idea where to look. We joined Angie's List after hearing about it on tv. We really didn't want to make a mistake and wanted it done right the first time. We've had some bad experiences with painters, etc. that we wanted to be sure it was done right this time. We liked the reviews we read about Carpet Hut. I really liked the fact that they were a family-run business and had been in business a very long time, and the reviews were very positive. I called them a talked with the nicest lady (she was the store's manager and I feel horrible I can't remember her name at the moment!), and she told me to come on in. I have to say that I was pretty impressed the moment I walked in. The manager was so friendly and I received all their attention! It had been a very long time since I purchased carpet, so I knew nothing about it and boy did I learn a lot. She really took the time to explain all the different types of carpet, the new styles, and answered all my questions, so that put me at ease. She really, really knows all you want to know about carpet. I felt very happy that I knew I had found my carpet company and was ready to have Larry come out and measure and give me an estimate. They even gave me a rough estimate based on my guess of the and quot;approximateand quot; square footage needed. I felt that they were not trying to sell me the most expensive carpet they had... they were very honest and there were no gimmicks or bait and switch tactics going on. I walked out of there knowing a whole heck of a lot more about carpet than when I walked in! They also let me take home A LOT of carpet samples and colors... and not just the small pieces... they let me take home the large carpet swatches. This helped so much in deciding on the color. Larry came out to measure at my home and gave me an estimate and he was just wonderful. He took his time and answered any question I had. He is such a down-to-earth person and so friendly. At some point, I found out that he was the owner of Carpet Hut and that just impressed me. I love all the individual attention this company gives you! I went back into the store to actually place the order and met Terry, who helped me. Then I found out that she was an owner of the company as well, and Larry's wife! What a lovely lady. She was a joy to talk to that I think I stayed there a good part of the afternoon enjoying her company... I ordered 234 sq. yards of carpet for my Den, Living Room, Master Bedroom, two other bedrooms, Room over the garage, upstairs hallway, front stairs to foyer, and back stairs. I also decided to order the top of the line, waterproof padding because we used that in our den before and were very happy with it since we had a dog and have kids and there were some accidents. We really liked the thickness and how great it felt walking barefoot and the moisture protection it provided. We picked Shaw Design Twist Platinum in the and quot;popcornand quot; color for the den because we loved the look and soft feel of it in our family room. The color is perfect and a very nice neutral with a bit of specks in it. We picked Shaw OnGoing II cut pile carpet for the rest of the house in the and quot;classic buffand quot; color and we are SO HAPPY with it. It's just a really nice neutral color in the beige family that goes with everything and isn't too light or too dark. The classic buff goes so well with the and quot;popcornand quot; color of the friese carpet in our den. We couldn't be more thrilled and are so grateful for the assistance the staff gave us in picking out the colors. The cost included tearing out our old carpet and moving all of our furniture and putting it back in place. They could have come out to install the carpet really quickly, but I had some work going on outside so they were so easy to work with on scheduling it the following week for me. Joe and his step-son arrived right on time and were so professional. They were both very friendly and were quick to answer any questions I had. Joe has been installing carpet for over 30 years and it shows. He actually teaches people how to install carpet the proper way and has instruction videos out. They got right to work ripping out our old carpet. They were so careful moving all of our furniture... I was really impressed! They completed everything in two days and they did such a great job and were so great at cleaning everything up after themselves. The carpet looks perfect.. I feel like I have a new house! This was a huge job and we couldn't be happier with everything.... from the first phone call to completion. I would highly, highly recommend this company. I have already recommended them to friends and family.
Description of Work: Carpet Hut tore out all my old carpet and padding, and removed it and took it with them, and removed any staples/nails, etc. as needed, and installed 234 sq. yards of carpet for my Den, Living Room, Master Bedroom, two other bedrooms, Room over the garage, upstairs hallway, front stairs to foyer, and back stairs, as well as the new padding. The cost included tearing out our old carpet/padding and moving all of our furniture and putting it back in place. When they were finished installing, they vacuumed all of the carpet.

Good. Larry who I believe is the owner came out and measured and gave me advice on how to paint the baseboards before having the new carpet installed. He seems to be a very nice and caring guy. Lauren, along with Ronnie who seemed to be there several times when we were searching for carpet were very patient and just overall nice to deal with. The installers were also very good at there job and have years of experience. So, my overall experience went good. The 3,000 price for everything is because I chose a better grade of carpet and I have very large rooms. I'm tired of replacing carpet every couple of years so, rather than take a chance with the big box stores, I chose to go with a local company and go with their advice. I'll update in a couple of years but, I feel that I've made a good decision and I liked dealing with a company that really knows their business.

They came in and asked me if I had another piece of carpet, because the one I had was not same color. I did and they cut hole in carpet and layed glue paper down and place new piece in and heated. Then they ask for a vacume cleaner and ran it over the area to show me that it would not come up. Very please with the job..thanks guys for job well done.

We live in a hundred year old house in Norfolk, VA. The hardwood floors in the dining and living room needed to be replaced. I had removed all the old flooring and prepped the area. The flooring was delivered one day in June. We have one window unit to cool the house not very effectively. They began installation the next day! (The problem with that, I was to learn later, is that the flooring needs time to acclimate to the environment (humidity level) before it is nailed down, otherwise when the closely nailed together boards take on moisture they swell and "tent-up" into and inverted V.) The job was finished the next day and everything looked fine - for about a week! Then the flooring began swelling up and popping up all over the floor. High enough that you would trip over them easily. Totally unacceptable!I called the salesmen, I think his name was Larry, who came out promptly with the installation man (who looked a little defensive at the time.) They tried to convince me that the problem was caused by either: an extremely tiny drip from a radiator that had been removed and then reinstalled after the flooring was done. (I put a cup under this "leak" and collected less that a teaspoon in a week! I then tightened it up.); or the flooring popped up because of the toe molding I had installed after the flooring was put down. There were some suggestion that because I caulked some of the corners before I put down the toe molding that I had somehow "trapped" moisture and therefore the boards popped up! Larry and I talked about this for quite some time. I took toe molding off, to no avail. The bottom line is the flooring was installed before it had acclimated to the increased moisture in the air in our home in Va. in June after being moved from the air-conditioned warehouse. Fine homebuilding has an excellent article on putting wood flooring down and the primary reason flooring pops up and that is failure to acclimate the flooring to the environment. I was getting nowhere with this argument until my wife decided to call the saleswoman and work it out "woman to woman" saying that she was not happy and wanted them to make it right. To their credit they then did the right thing and tore up and replaced the entire two rooms at no cost to us. Ironically, when they brought the new wood into the house the installer said that they would start after 1 day! I insisted that I was in no rush to have it put down and that a week delay would be acceptable. I wanted no repeat of the earlier mistake and even spread the wood out so it could acclimate as much as possible. They still did not use a moisture meter which astounds me. I had made the mistake of thinking they knew what they were doing. Apparently they did not, but eventually they did do the right thing. No problems since then but I was never use them again.
Description of Work: We live in a hundred year old house in Norfolk, VA. The hardwood floors in the dining and living room needed to be replaced. We had selected 3/8" thick tongue and groove pre-finished pecan flooring.

Response from CARPET HUT BY F V WOOLARD
At Carpet Hut we strive to please each and every customer and we are very concerned that this customer is dissatisfied with some aspects of the job we performed. We truly appreciate his business and our company did everything we could to amend the situation to the customers expectations. We would like to address some of the claims made in this report that are misleading. 1.The report incorrectly lists the Work Completed Date as June 09, 2011. However, our original contract with the customer was drafted on 08/27/2007 and the work was completed on 09/15/2007. The partial replacement we performed occurred on 11/19/2008 and our documentation shows that we took the wood over to the customers house on 11/15/2008, four days prior to installation to allow adequate acclimation time. The report also claims our warehouse is air conditioned, which is incorrect. 2.The report states that we installed a 3/8” Pecan wood product, but we actually installed a 5/16” Chestnut solid wood product. 3.The report states that the wood was delivered and installed “one day in June” which is incorrect according to all of our documentation. The original installation occurred in September of 2007 and the partial replacement occurred in November of 2008. Customer satisfaction has always been our focus. Our company was founded on honesty, integrity, and service, and we still maintain this philosophy today. We appreciate the opportunity to serve this customer and are pleased that he is ultimately satisfied with the final installation.

Two carpet techs arrived promptly, got to work, and within an hour, had the job completed. They were quick, courteous, and cleaned up after themselves. Very pleased!!
Description of Work: Existing carpet was restretched and tacked down properly. Original installation many years ago was done incorrectly, so the carpet techs corrected the lumps in the carpet. Well done!!

We were very pleased with Larry and his crew. We went with them because of their high merits on Angie's List. They were very helpful with carpet suggestions and Larry's estimate was right on. I was very pleased with the installation. They were early, quick, efficient and we are incredibly pleased with the results!

We went to this company because of the reports we read on Angie's list. They gave a thorough explanation of the quality of carpets and their characteristics. After assisting us with a choice of carpets, they came out and measured and also noted a repair that had to be made because of a sagging floor. They came when they said they would come and managed to install all the new carpet on the same day. They were very careful with the movement of furniture and they restored everything to its original position. We provided a 50% down payment up front and the rest was paid on satisfactory completion. We were very satisfied with the work they did. At the time, we were preparing our condominium for sale and it sold quickly. The look of the new carpet helped.
Description of Work: They removed the old wall-to-wall carpet throughout the living room, dining room, and bedrooms. They did some repair on the sub-flooring and then installed new wall-to-wall carpet throughout.

They also put runners on two sides of the stairs. I paid around $2500. Their customer service was really good. They seemed to be very well organized. They did a really good job for me. They did exactly what they said they would. The people at the shop were very helpful. They helped me pick out the carpets. I will use them again in the future.

Quite well. All work was done as expected. I have dealt with this company for years. They are locally owned. Over the years they have installed wood flooring. vinyl and carpeting in my home. Every room in my house except the bathrooms has been covered by them, some of them twice. I see no reason to go anywhere else. They are honest and reliable and rely on their own vinyl installers.
