American Builders Super Window

Initial consultation was pleasant and informative. I had reviewed the suppliers website prior to first meeting. Everything was explained about work to be performed. I knew I had made the right choice. On day work was scheduled the workers arrived on time and completed the work the same day. They were very interactive with me during the entire process making sure they answered my questions. I am satisfied with my new windows and I highly recommend their services.

They were on-time and removed the old windows, claened up the area, installed new insulation around the windows, installed the new windows.

Roger came out and gave us a very professional assessment of what we needed and options--he left us with a very fair and comprehensive quote. After reviewing 5 quotes from companies that we found either through Angie's list of through referals from friends, we went with American Builders. We wanted good windows but didn't need "top of the line". The windows Roger recommended were BF Rich "Horizon" windows -- two-pain Low-E with Argon gas between (fairly standard these days). They seemed a good window for the price with the only down side being that we had to have the same color on the inside as the outside. They came when they said, got the job done within a day and cleaned up afterwards. All very professional. I've waited several months to write this review so I would be able to evaluate the product. We had a leak in the frame of one window (the one over the sink in the kitchen) that made itself know during the first heavy rain we had. We called Roger and they were out the next day to deal with it. We have had no further issues with these windows. They function great and our house seems a whole lot quieter with them (we replaced wood framed windows). The appearance of the installation is great, including the trim and chalking. We would use this company again and/or recommend them to friends.

Contractor showed up on time and was professional at all times. Explaining to my wife what they were going to do, how long it would take, and where exactly they were going to be working (part of it was outside and part of it was inside). They took out the windows and true to their word allowed my wife to pick 2 of the best windows to keep for future projects they then took the rest. They also allowed my wife to take pictures of the work, especially when they took out an older window that allowed us to peer down into a damaged wall cavity (so as to use for reference when we decide to fix the wall). He also came out several times to fix a leaking back window, going so far as to bring with him a BF Rich Vendor to identify the problem (took him twice but the window does not leak anymore. Would a Big Box store have that kind of commitment? Probably not, they subcontract the work out to people who do not have a vested interest in seeing you happy). He continued to respond to my phone calls when I inquired about putting in an AC unit.

Roger and his crew did an outstanding job. They arrived on time and finished the job quickly. They completely cleaned up and you would not know they were here. Unexpectedly they had to replace more rotting wood then was initially thought. The BF Rich windows are superior and they really look great. Roger came by after the work was done and spent adequate time showing how to work the windows and how to register them for the lifetime warranty. After researching many Window companies, to include Window World, Sea Thru, Mr. Rodgers, and several more I selected The Super Window based on the reviews, price and having seen first hand their work on a neighbors house. I am very pleased with the professionalism of the installers and Roger himself. I would highly recommend The Super Window to anyone. Thanks Roger for a super and pleasant experience.

They are very nice and wonderful to work with and they made sure that we had everything we wanted. They even changed the windows up three times. We liked them before they would take our payments. They were awesome. They were very punctual.

I couldn't be happier with the quality and service I received from American Builders. Roger Cauthorn, the owner is truly a customer oriented business man, with a great product, reasonable prices and a desire to make this a great buying experience. The low pressure, but informative sales presentation was very refreshing. The price was very competitive, the installation was done on time, and the crew was professional in every way. In addition, Roger offers a lifetime guarantee on any problem that occurs. To make this purchase as stress free as possible, Roger gave us a $50.00 gift card for dinner at Outback, and free window locks for every window. We received a $250.00 check for referring a friend who also bought windows. And last but not least, he replaced two large pieces of vinyl trim, at no charge, that were damaged when I had my driveway replaced several years ago. I have lived in this house for 28 years and had dozens of contractors provide every conceivable service. I have used Angie's List for almost all of this work and have generally been very happy with the results. This has been my best experience so far.

Roger and his crew from American Builders did a great job. They showed up on time, were very professional and did a great job of installing the new windows. There were no hidden cost. ... just as advertised. I was so pleased with their work that I just signed a contract to have the remainder of the windows on my house replaced.

It went smoothly and promptly. Mr. Cawthon contacted us as soon as we bought the Big Deal and worked with our schedule to find a time suitable for us, which was not easy. The work was done with no inconvenience, mess or bother. We could not have asked for a better experience and we would certainly hire this company again.

We met with multiple (more than 3) local window contractors to discuss installation of nine (9) windows in the front of our all brick home locaed in the historic Ghent area of Norfolk, Virginia. While we appreciated the information (and huge price variance) presented by all local contractors, we knew that American Builders was the right company for us immediately upon meeting Roger. Our primary concerns with windows were sound and temparature protection as well as interior and exterior aethetic (maintaining and improving our home's curb appeal). American Builders presented us with multiple options, advised us on the positives and negatives associated with each option, and worked with us to find the best value and right option for our window needs. And, since they were running a special, we got an additional window FREE! A huge benefit about American Builders is that their price includes ALL costs such as wood repair, trim and wrap work, etc. This made it very easy for us to understand that overall project cost while not being concerned about incurring additional or unexpected costs during installation. We ultimately decided to purchase the BF Rich Vintage model window. We are very satisfied with this window thus far and were very pleased with the installation process. The curb appeal of the window and trim/wrap is awesome --- our home no longer looks like it was built in 1986! The sound issues have been addressed and the great installation job and quality product have addressed our temperature concerns. Additionally, the installation occurred precisely within the timeframe that Roger advised us when we placed the original order. Roger also came out to inspect the project a few days after completion and did not accept final payment until we advised him wer are 100% satisfied. Overall, we HIGHLY recommend this contractor! American Builders is a fair, honest window contractor who provides a great product an exceptional customer service at a fair and competitive price.

Let me first say that prior to hiring American Builders (AB) to replace my 35 year old double hung windows I had never heard of the company and did not know any of its employees. I found AB on Angie?s List, saw they had fantastic grades with a good number of reviews, so I gave them a call to come out and show me what they had to offer. The owner, Mr. Roger Cawthon came out right away. Replacing windows is a very expensive evolution and I wanted to make sure that the company I chose provided a really good value for my money. With that in mind I decided to look at 6 different companies and 7 different windows; the companies were: Mr. Rogers Windows, Beach Windows and Siding, Window World of Tidewater, Home Depot, Lowe?s, and of course American Builders. My wife and I did our homework, studied the meanings, nuances, plusses and minuses of all the different features and energy factors, and developed a spreadsheet to document them all for each company?s windows. The one I would most recommend steering clear of is Mr. Roger?s Windows. Unfortunately, I set up an appointment with them first and it cost me a lot of time and frustration that wouldn?t have happened had I seen them later in my search. When I saw them I did not know a lot about windows, what they cost or anything about the installation process and I fell victim to Mr. Roger?s used car, high- pressure sales approach. They cited a 25% discount but it would only be good if I bought the windows that day. With an agreement for a 72 hour grace period to cancel the sale with no penalty I thought that I should go ahead and take advantage of the promotional discount. I will say that they did seem to have a descent window, though not, after analysis, any better than several of the others and not as good as a couple of them. In the 24 hours after I saw the Mr. Roger?s salesman I had looked at 4 other companies. I was shocked to find that Mr. Roger?s was 2 to 3 times more expensive than other windows out there of what I felt were of similar or better quality. The price comparison included consideration of warranties, installation charges and other factors. In my humble opinion, you are wasting your money if you go with this company as what you would be buying would be the marketing and the hype, not a better window, warranty or installation. I was concerned that I was going to have a problem with cancelling my order but fortunately, I?ll give them credit that they did honor the 72 hour period I had to cancel the deal with no penalty. I won?t go into detail about Beach Windows and Siding, Home Depot or Lowe?s but just say that they were the next level up in value from Mr. Rogers and were similar in quality, price, warranty, etc. For the most part, they didn?t make the final cut because they had trouble meeting some of the things I was looking for in my new windows. At the next level up, because of overall value (It was the cheapest) which means the quality and features you get for the money, was Window World of Tidewater. The salesman, Charlie Caski, was great, very knowledgeable, on time and showed me a very competitive window. The warranty and installation process seemed good as well. I believe he represented an honest and good company that really tries to provide quality service and a quality product. Because of the low price of the windows they just didn?t have all the features that I was wanting. However, if you want a solid window of decent quality and are on a smaller budget, I think this would be a good company to deal with. That being said, for a little bit more, you can get the best value of all of the companies mentioned by selecting American Builders. Reviewing American Builders, I?ll start with the salesman and owner of AB, Mr. Roger Cawthon ? One of the nicest gentlemen you?d ever want to meet. He not only became my salesman/vendor of choice, but a new friend. He?s been in the business a long time, is highly knowledgeable of the industry, his competitors products, and of course the manufacturing process, features and quality of his own window product made by B. F. Rich. I can?t say enough about the effort he put in to making sure that I was not just happy with the outcome, but delighted. I knew that he was serious about the quality of his product and desire to earn a quality reputation for his company when I found out he was a member of the board of the local Better Business Bureau. That said a lot. The next thing about AB I really liked was the quality and features of their window. They only sell one, the B.F. Rich window. The window I purchased seemed to me better than any of the other windows I compared it to, both in the overall manufacture of the frame as well as the features. It had everything I was looking for in features including the highest energy ratings, the right color, the right color/style of mullions, invisible screens, tilt-in sashes, foam filling, quality glass, and more. I was extremely pleased with the AB?s installation process. They sent their in-house, trained crew and had the installation of 26 windows done in about 6 hours. The crew was courteous and professional. The really knew what they were doing. They fixed some rotting sills for free and cleaned up everything. You would have never known they had even been there. They also checked and double checked the operation of all the windows to ensure the locks and sashes worked as they were supposed to. One of them noted that one sash was not freely opening as smooth as he felt it should have been (I tried it and it didn?t seem that different to me), so he ordered a replacement actuator and installed it a couple of days later. These guys also add some fiberglass installation around the outside of the frame ? no other company did that. Most said that by caulking around the edges, the air pocket would provide sufficient insulation to inhibit heat/air transfer ? right. You can?t tell me that adding fiberglass insulation didn?t improve whatever air/temperature flow there would have been without it. AB?s Warranty and after-the-sale service is phenomenal. Roger and B.F. Rich stand by their promises and their product. Basically, as long as I own the windows, if anything happens to them I have a lifetime warranty. About a day or two after the installation I noticed a small, almost invisible 2 inch scratch on the outside of one of the windows in the front of the house. Roger just happened to call to check on how we felt about our new windows and I told him about it. He had one of his team come out and take a look at it. On seeing that it couldn?t be repaired, he immediately ordered a replacement sash. I told Roger that it was so small nobody would really see it and that it wasn?t necessary to replace the sash but he insisted. He really wanted to make sure I was 100% pleased ? and I was. The ?piéce de resistance? of the whole deal was the price. Not including the Mr. Roger?s Windows that were on the far right of the bell curve in price, when comparing the B. F. Rich windows offered by American Builders to the rest , when it came to price, they were about the same to slightly lower than all but Window World?s (the lowest). When Roger calculated the price and showed me the final figures I was astonished. I could not believe the quality, features and overall value I got for my money. Hands down, more value than any other window. Needless to say I am extremely pleased with the entire experience I had with American Builders. In summary, I do not have enough superlatives to express how delighted I was with American Builders and more specifically, with the owner, Mr. Roger Cawthon. I now know the reason why AB not only had straight ?A?s? on Angie?s List for their overall assessments, but if you look at the imbedded grades for each review they also had straight ?A?s? - with the exception of one lonely B (at least at the time I chose them to be one of the companies I would look at). I am thrilled with everything about the purchase ? the window quality, the window features, the service, the warranty, the installation, the install crew, everything.

After getting estimates from 3 other vendors, American Builders of VA came in with the best price for quality windows. Customer oriented to the utmost. They are not satisfied until you are satisfied. The workers are not only skilled at what they do, they are also professional and courteous. This company is by-far in business to make sure their customers are happy with their work. They even follow-up with the customer after the project is done, who else does that? I definitely recommend.

The owner, Mr. Roger Cawthon, was beyond outstanding to work with from the beginning through the end of the project. He was accessible and responded quickly to all request. He truly was a man of his word and went out of his way to ensure every aspect of the work was high quality. Mr. Cawthon added features to the window's contract that were not included as part of the signed agreement such as after the final installation, he hired a professional window cleaning service to make the them "pop." Great job American Builders of Virginia, I highly recommend.

The job was a little complicated because we live in TN at the moment and rent out our house in VA. We had just a few days in Yorktown and arranged to meet Roger . He worked with us around our tight schedule , met us on short notice, explained to us what work was needed, gave us a quote. The experience was a very pleasant one. Roger was punctual and kept us informed of the progress when we returned to TN .The price was what he had quoted and the timing what he had predicted. Roger contacted our tenants to make the appointment at a convenient time for them and they were very happy with Roger's team. I definitely would recommend Roger Cawthon for his quality of work, punctuality and professionalism and will use his service again when needed.

We bought a home late September, which had the original wood windows. We replaced 16 (front and side of house) and wrapped an additional 20 (back side). The windows arrived within the time frame promised and the installation was flawless. The installers were meticulous (repaired all wood rot) and the way they wrap the windows is pure art. Amazing job! Roger is extremely accessible and knowledgeable. I will be using them again in a few years when we place the remaining windows and two 9? patio doors.

Everything went great! Actually had a problem with one of my patio doors that turned out to be a factory defect. The service technician was on site the day of the installation from BFRich windows and already had set up for a brand new sliding door to replaced no questions asked in 2 weeks. Crew was professional and courteous and they did a proper job of installing the windows. The owner of American Builders (Roger) is a really nice guy and not a high pressured salesman. Honest and dependable!!! Would highly recommend this company to anyone.

Roger Cawthon was professional yet personable,informative and a pleasure with whom to work. His workmen were also professional, fast and efficient, tidy, and did a GREAT job overall. I HIGHLY recommend this company. We had gotten two other estimates before we found this wonderful company.We would definitely do business with them again.

The owner, Roger, came out to talk to us. He was thorough and gave a price that night without the pressure of "buy now or the price disappears". We decided to use his services and wrote a contract that night. He held our check until our HOA approved the change (which ended up being a 2+ week wait). The windows were then ordered and were here quickly. We set an appointment for them to be installed; we had all the windows in the house replaced due to the fact most of them had broken seals and were fogging. The work crew showed up on time, were efficient and for as much work as they were doing, they stayed out of the way. The windows have a lifetime warrantee and they are easy to open, tilt and close. Roger set up a cleaner to come and clean the windows for us. I'd use the company again, but since we replaced everything, there isn't any reason to bring them back.

We were advised that damages such as these were covered and we would only pay for installation. Roger took our information and arranged with BFRich for a replacement window. We were contacted by a technician to arrange installation at a time convenient to us. The technician arrived with correct window and necessary tools. After less than a half hour, the job was completed. We have been happy with our BFRich windows, and with Roger's company for the initial installation and warranty service.

Work was absolutely fantastic. Workers arrived on schedule Thursday morning. They proceeded to remove window blinds and any hardware in the way. They removed the vinyl trim and the old windows. They replaced the old windows quickly , with the new ones. We were concerned about the house getting cold while they did it, but the new ones were installed so quickly we couldn't tell. When they finished they cleaned up, and noone would have ever known they were here. We had planned for most of the day, with 10 windows, but they were done in a little over 3 hours. We have lived here over 30 years, and I have never put a contractor sign in my yard. On this day a Super Window sign IS in my yard. My thanks to Roger and his great crew. They are professional, courteous, and very thorough. WELL DONE

They were timely and professional. I definitely got what I asked for and received an excellent price. He told me if I referred him to others, he would give me $100. I referred others to him and he showed up on my door to deliver the $100.

I needed the hand railing installed on my front stairs. Not knowing who to call, I asked Pyramid Roofing for a recommendation. Roger and Bob, of American Builders, came out gave me an estimate,and we agreed with the price.The following week,Roger, Bob, and Bobbie came out and within 4 hours I had the most beautiful, well crafted set of handrails on my front stairs. The process was painless, the results are fantastic. They even went the extra mile and caulked all the nail heads, and railings. We will be calling on this wonderful company again to do some more work needed around the house.Thanks guys you are the best.
