Great job, quality product, Great price

I thoroughly research local window companies and the window manufacturers they used. I invited a few to provide an estimate for the job. I looked at wood, vinyl and fiberglass windows. I settled on a quality vinyl window manufactured by a medium sized company in Pennsylvania and installed by American Builders of Virginia locally. Stephen was the gentleman who provided the estimate. He was pleasant, knowledgeable and did not attempt any form of high pressure sales techniques. This was not the case for some other companies. Roger was the owner and I had several email exchanges with him as well as a phone call or two discussing windows construction materials as I was skeptical about vinyl windows. Once I decided to purchase their windows, they visited once more to double check the measurements. They placed the windows on order and after about 3-4 weeks, they can to install in them. David and his assistant arrived about 8:20 am. They were finished by 2:00 pm. Most of the work was done from the outside, although they did need to work inside to complete the installation and do the finish work. They had to replace parts of almost every window frame, on the sides at the bottom, due to wood rot. After all the windows were set, David was joined by two additional gentlemen who assisted in installing the vinyl clad aluminum wrap and caulking the windows. The windows look great, are well insulated and work smoothly. David and his crew were polite, congenial, efficient and cleaned up the interior and exterior when they were done. You could not tell they were ever there. Additionally, they had no difficulty coordinating with a painting contractor who was there working on a different job, painting the porch and trim on the front of the house, directly under where David was working.

This company was outstanding. From the initial contact all the way through to installation they were an absolute pleasure to work with. Their representative took the time to thoroughly review their replacement window options, the construction and features of each, offered ideas for alternatives for an oddly shaped window we had, and never once did we feel pressured. In fact they stressed several times that we should seek out at least 3 or more additional quotes from other companies (which we did) before making our final decision. Once we decided to use American Builders, we signed the contract late Friday afternoon, final measurements were done on Monday and the windows were ordered. 3 weeks later the windows were installed which was ahead of schedule. The installation process was flawless. A 3 person crew arrived promptly on the installation date. All 3 crew members were very polite, respectful, and professional. They were organized and worked extremely well as a team. When the job was done they thoroughly cleaned up and removed all the debris and checked to make sure everything was done to our complete satisfaction. Shortly thereafter the owner also followed up to ask about our experience and to make sure we were completely satisfied. I highly recommend American Builders to anyone looking to replace their windows.

The team came in, removed my old windows and replaced them with the new Super Windows. My winter electric and gas bills each decreased by approximately $80 per month.

I was very pleased with the installation, the quality of the windows, and the customer service. When I had some concerns about two of the windows, they sent someone out right away. The matter was resolved to my satisfaction and they did not require payment until it was. Very professional from beginning to end.

Very good experience. Contacted the company, and Stephen came out to give an estimate for the windows. Very nice guy, who answered all our questions. Windows will take a few days to get, as they are manufactured to size needed, at least in our case they were (it is an older house). Installation went quick and smooth, and they look great! I will be happy to recommend this company, and would use them again for future projects.

Roger was pleasant, upfront, and honest about the quality of the windows he installs and the pricing. His installers were punctual, fast, and professional.

First off when you call on the phone to ask about getting an estimate, you speak with Roger... the owner! We had already received several estimates (5) from a vast array of companies to include those selling the "$189" window that comes out to 380 where you get put on a waitlist for months until the install as well as companies where they try to convince you to finance your window purchase that is literally 3 times the cost of what is reasonable when compared to other estimates. Roger came over and looked at our house and gave us a estimate that was unbeatable. He gave us an awesome deal as well as had the windows installed a week and a half after signing a work order. He is the owner, he is the sales manager, he is the complaints department (if you have a reason to complain that I do not forsee) and he is very reachable. His partner, Kevin, came out with one of the guys that did the install and measured two days after signing the contract to verify window sizes and then a week later we had our windows in. The work crew arrived right on time the morning of the install, they had the old windows out in no time and the new windows in by lunch time. One of the sashes was cracked and they just ordered a new one, which was delivered and installed a week later. After lunch they put in all of the trim an sealed up the exterior. Our windows look great and instantly most of the drafts in our house were eliminated. Our neighbors love them and several have stopped to comment on how much of an improvement the windows are. This is a great company and they met and exceeded all of my expectations. I recommend them to everyone and I am even having them install a new sliding patio door for me because they did such a good job on the windows and I do not want to deal with shoddy from some other company. Military guys, Roger is a West Point grad and a true gentlemen. Mention you are a Veteran and I know he will work with you on the price. If you want new windows call today.

The job went well. Roger (owner of the company) visited my home and provided an estimate for the needed work. He then arranged for a person to measure each window to ensure the replacement windows were a perfect fit. Roger's crew arrived on time and completed the work quickly and removed all trash from the work site.

I am most impressed with Roger Cawthorn and his work crews. Roger explained everything in detail and provided COMPLETE costs rather then come in with a low estimate to get into the door and then put add-on costs into the job. I am h****** contractors. I can be very picky and demanding. I also don't have time to sit through hours long presentations only to be given an estimate that isn't reasonable. Roger was very patient with me and helped me understand exactly what I was getting. He answered all of my questions both before the work began and then showed up on site periodically and answered questions. He responded to his email in a timely manner and his professionalism is above and beyond what I have become accustomed to receiving from most contractors once the deal is signed. Furthermore, the crews that came out to the house were all extremely professional and they also answered any questions I had. The bottom line is I kept waiting for the disappointing moment to happen and it never did. Not only did the work exceed my expectations but they cleaned up and hauled everything away both during the work and when it was completed. I cannot believe how good my house looks today! I was not let down by Roger or any member of his team at all. I was scared to death about making such a huge commitment of money but I feel like I really lucked out this time and picked the right company for this huge project. I highly recommend them to anyone! They were timely and professional. They cleaned up after themselves. The door looks great.

American Builder's proposal was not the lowest price, but was considered the best value of three competing products. The windows required a three week lead time which was considered reasonable and met without issue. Installation spanned two days due to inclement weather. The installation crew was punctual and worked at a measured paced throughout the process. They were mindful of a unique situation involving two feral cats residing in the house, and ensured no more windows were removed than could be simultaneously installed to preclude the escape of the cats. Post installation inspection with the owner, Roger Cawthon, revealed few problems and those considered minor in nature, all were immediately resolved. Overall experience was positive, and I feel I could recommend this contractor for replacement windows.

He replaced my bow window in the front of my house. It's actually a four casement windows all in a unit and he had to order it and it took like three or four weeks and then they had to come and install it. It's like a big picture window in the front of the house. American windows did a great job. He was very professional in his approach, his sales pitch was good, I could actually understand what he was saying, he explained things well. My window, the way it's built into the house, there's masonry work so it had to look right and when they got done, it looks perfect. It looks like it was the original installation in the house. It's actually more finished looking than I expected. I was happy with the way it looked, happier than I thought I was going to be. They were exactly on time.

The work was very, very satisfactory. I saw the window people quite a bit because I was there. They finished it in one day. I didn’t see the people who worked on the other stuff but when I came home in the evening, it was nice, tidy and cleaned up. They were finished by the time I got home. What stood out the most about their work was their professionalism. They treated the property like it was their own.

My experience with American Builders of Virginia was absolutely fantastic! When I first considered replacing our windows, I became very discouraged when I started to research the process, products, and providers. I kept coming across horror stories about aggressive sales tactics, dishonest vendors, overpriced products, shoddy workmanship, etc. I actually debated just keeping my old windows and avoiding the whole ordeal. Then, I came across American Builders' web site. The Buyer's Guide on the web site provided a concise and informative explanation of what to consider when replacing windows. It was literally a wealth of information. Anyone thinking about replacing their windows really should take 15 minutes to read the guide. My only (very minor) suggestion to Roger, the owner of American Builders, is to have someone "clean up" his web site so it is a little more presentable. The information is great, but the site could have a more appealing design. Based on the web site, I checked to see if American Builders was on Angie's List. Once I saw the straight A ratings, I decided to give them a call. Roger, the owner, and not some hired gun salesman actually came to my house a few days later at a time convenient for my wife and I. He spent about 45 minutes explaining his product and installation services. No pressure, just a normal conversation which included stopping to answer all of my questions. After his presentation, he walked my home, surveyed my old windows, and came back with a total price for replacement and installation. Now, here is the best part. As this was our first estimate, Roger then told me to call around and get a few more quotes from other companies. He said that it was important to look into other options in order to make an informed decision. He was so confident in his product and price that he knew we would be back. And, he was right. He has a very good product and offers very competitive prices. So, I called him a week later to do the contract. Again, he personally came back to our house at a convenient time, with a blank contract and not some pre-formatted form with a bunch of small, hard-to-read disclaimers. Roger wrote the contract out by hand, line-by-line, and discussed each part before moving on. In the meantime, his measurement team (which includes the future owner of the company) was taking precise measurements for each window. Fast forward to installation, which was scheduled at time convenient for us, Roger and a crew of 5 installers showed up 10 minutes early, confirmed the window measurements one last time, and then got to work. No wasted time, very efficient. The installers were a great group of guys. Very knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly. I got the impression that they enjoyed their jobs. Most of them have been with the company for a while (in some cases 10 to 15 years). Installation was finished in two days, exactly as promised by Roger. The installers did a great job of cleaning everything up before they left. Then, Roger came back out one final time to inspect the job. He would not accept final payment until we told him that we were 100% satisfied. Also, he reminded us once again that that our windows are 100% covered (parts and labor) in the event something breaks or is damaged (except for acts of God). His parting bonus to us was arranging at no-cost for a company to professionally clean our windows. So in summary, my original anxiety about replacing our windows turned into the best experience that we have had with a home improvement project. Roger and his team are top-notch folks. Highly recommended.

Fast, quiet and efficient. The team of two works like a symphony. It only took the morning from start to finish.

They arrived exactly at the time arranged and finished within fifteen minutes of the estimated time given. Before starting work they verified all the initial measurements and the new window sizes. Roger, the owner of the company, introduced us to each of the members of his crew. They in turn explained their process and and how the work would flow. They would remove one window at a time and begin installation of it before the next team moved on to the next one. Any damaged wood would be repaired. During the initial visit Roger had pointed out that none of our existing windows had J channel around them. They installed the J channel at no additional charge. During work they put down tarps on the floor to catch debris and immediately vacuumed and cleaned the area up before moving on to the next. During the decision making process Roger went into great detail about windows and the installation process and never once pressed for our business. Initially had graded American Builders with an F because we had an appointment set up and they did not show up. After my review received a personnel letter from Roger explaining what had happened and his sincere apology. Figured that effort on his behalf deserved a second chance on our part and we are glad we did, the job went like clock work, exactly as advertised. Another plus was the hand written contract, no lawyerized fine print. It was written in language we both agreed to and American Builders did something none of the other vendors we spoke with would do, he wrote the delivery time of the windows into the contract.

Roger installed both new windows and siding for us. His prices were reasonable and the quality of the work excellent. Roger is very proud of his product and the workmanship of his employees. He bent over backworads to make sure that the job was done to our satisfaction. I fell that if I had a problem in the future with the work, I could call him and he would take care of it immediately.

The scheduling was at our convenience. The three young men who did the installation were prompt, polite, neat and knowledgeable. I can't believe they put in eleven double-hung, Super Windows (one of them a 6-foot bow) in 3 hours! We absolutely love our made-to-order windows! Our house is quieter and I'm so glad to be rid of those horrible "contractor" windows. We haven't received our first power bill, yet; but I know we'll see a huge difference. The house presents a better front to the street, too. We had talked with other window companies, but American Builders (1-877-WINDOWS) beat all by miles! The entire experience was superb. Roger gave us certificates to give to our friends and I've handed them all out - I'm that excited and want everyone to have the same experience.
