I waited until we had heavy rains before submitting this review and am delighted to report that there are no more leaks in this area. This attests to the fact that the sales consultant, siding and roofing technicians and gutter installers all were patient and professional in assessing the problem and coming up with solutions. The various crews were always on time, left the area clean, and did excellent work. I have rated price as N/A because I did not put this job out for bids and therefore have no basis for comparison. I needed a company that could do all the work, including roofing, siding, and gutters, and thought the final cost was fair.

The estimator came in time and give us a estimation with professional manner. The price is cheap but he seems honest. We haven't decide if we will hire them.

Initially contacted Shiner in 8/2012 after June Derecho hit and damaged roofing and siding. Jim Miller took estimate and worked with insurance company to prove siding could not be matched. Estimate given on job but was revised after we decided to embark on a renovation issue due to the extensive exterior work that was needed. Shiner started job in Spring 2013. Roofing job was completed fast and was well done. Due to issues with the window order, we were not able to start this job after as desired so the Siding job happened instead. The siding was done well. The windows job had issues with some improperly measured windows which further delayed the job and impacted the renovation effort a bit. Overall, Shiner was responsive and attentive. Window caulking technique was sloppy and needs improvement. Shiner also came back to fix issues and perform repairs that were caused during the reno effort. They were very professional and pleasant and would use them again.

New Gutters installed that work effectively and efficiently. Roof repairs necessary and documented were completed. Very Satisfied.

The workmanship was excellent. They price was a little high.

We sent them a message through Angie's list to get an estimate on replacing the pipe collars around two pipes. They called us back right away and came when they said they would. They were here for about 30 minutes and it cost $620, which I thought was crazy when my husband told me the cost. They did a good job though.

We were thrilled with the result. The guys who came out were great and worked hard at cleaning up which wasn't easy.

Dave provided information on what was needed and gave a reasonable estimate for the house & garage. The crew arrived on time and did excellent work. They also did a very good job of cleaning up.

Shiner arrived on time for our estimate. They first ask if we had any concerns or questions about our existing roof, so that he could make sure he got the answers during his inspection. Shiner was the only company to go onto and walk the roof, go in the attic and inspect from under the roof and walk the entire outside of the house. They took pictures and sat at our dining room table and showed us the pictures and explained what he felt we needed and should do to give us what we needed. The location of my electrical drop required a service interruption from Virginia Dominion which Shiner arranged for. Due to emergencies Dominion Virginia call to notify roofer of a delay of 1 to 1-1/2 hours. The roofer adapted their plan and cancelled the interruption of service. They completely removed my old roof, repaired damage that came from the installation of a new flue chimney done by a contractor installing my furnace 2 years ago. Their cleanup was amazing. We found no nails, scraps or product anywhere in our yard. We walked the yard due to having dogs to make sure they paws were safe and we couldn't find anything. Both the office and field personnel were courteous, informative and never made me feel I was asking to many questions or had too many concerns. I received their name as a recommendation, they did a superior job in making sure I understood everything they were going to do and fully explained, in plain language, their recommendations. I have and will continue to recommend Shiner Roofing.

This review is purely about the buying process. We can't speak to the quality of work. Shiner was the first out of four quotes that we got before moving forward with replacing our roof. When the first rep showed up to do an estimate IT TOOK OVER 3 HOURS for him to complete the process. He spent a long time on the roof of our house. When it was time to talk about the estimate, we were shown a few pictures and then told that it would cost us over $10k to repair our roof (turned out to be false) and more to the point it was worth for us to replace it. Then came the sales pitch, but the guy really struggled to articulate the value between some of the shingle choices. Finally, we were rushed to make a decision on the spot because the discounts they were offering were going to expire at midnight. It was our first estimate so we could not make a decision that quickly and the whole pitch left a bad taste so we decided to walk away and regroup. The followup phone call came a few days later. We explained that we had a negative experience, both being quoted an insane amount of money to repair the roof and then being forced to decided almost immediately to accept the quoted price. Long story short, we were told that the sales guy was new and we accepted for another, more senior person to come out and try again. The second visit was about an hour long. However, the guy reworked almost the entire quote in terms of how the roof was to be built. He seemed very knowledgeable and we felt a lot more comfortable moving forward. Unfortunately, then came the pricing conversation - it was just LIKE BUYING A USED CAR. He started doing math on a piece of paper, crossing numbers and writing in lower numbers. It costs X, but I will give it to you for Y. Finally, he said that we had to make a decision same day or else the discounts would not apply. Best part, even after funny math and discounts, the pricing wasn't competitive with other quotes. That was pretty much the last straw for us and we kindly asked him to leave. To sum up, we were unhappy with the overall buying experience. Both people we dealt with were very nice, but we wasted a lot of time and felt pressured to purchase both times. The original quote was poorly outlined and had we used it, our roof would NOT have been done correctly. When compared to the other companies the pricing was higher for what seems apples-to-apples work and material. None of the other companies we dealt with pressured us or offered any discounts. Their pricing was straight forward and lower than Shiner. Instead of using Shiner, get a quote from Marshal Roofing and Consumer Construction, Inc. both are highly rated on Angie's List and were our top picks after we finished with the process.

The most important skill they have, yes they do good work - but they will not stop until you are 100% happy. Customer service top notch, will work with you, prices seemed fair/reasonable - but the service is outstanding.

The crew divided tasks into 2 parts to accommodate our needs (leak in sunroom). Punctual, efficient and friendly. Cleaned up yard completely both times after days work.

I solicited three quotes from different companies to replace the singles and wood trim with PVC on my roof. All three of the companies met me at my house to understand the work I was requesting and take measurement (Shiner came out twice). On the second visit with Shiner (Friday Aug 23rd) I sat down with their salesperson where he walked though their entire installation process (PowerPoint briefing). He didn't have photographs of my house and it was raining, so I went over pictures from another vendor and explained that I wanted the roof replaced and all wood trim to be replaced with PVC. I explicitly showed him pictures from one of the other vendor with circles around all the wood trim (racks, scoffits, and earboards) and told him I wasn't an expert on roofs, but this is what I needed done. I told him I wanted the exterior of my house to be as maintenance free as possible. We also discussed the other vendor?s quotes since Shiner was the most expensive. I even told him that vendor's price separated by roof and trim replacement. The Shiner quote was combined so you are not given insights into how they price their work. He told me the price included all the work I requested to be done. When I walked him to his car, I again, showed him all the wood trim and verified that his quote include replacing all the wood with PVC. I ended up going with Shine although they were the most expensive of the three quotes based on their reputation (the others are also rated A on Angie's List and AAA by the BBB). The roof installation took a total of 5 days. After the second day (Friday Sept 6th) I called my sales person and told him that they weren't replacing the rake soffits and earboards. He told me he was sorry, he actually didn't include that work in the quote. I asked him how could that be because he assured my everything was covered. He said he was sorry and he misunderstood what I wanted and would get back to me for a new quote. Again, Shiner was the most expensive before adding in the additional amount for work that he assured me was already covered. Then on Wednesday Sept 11th I received a call from Shiner that stated that the salesperson was going to be at my house that day to measure for the additional work (that would be a third time of taking off work to meet with them). I said, nobody had told me I had to be there and I was out of town (which was true). On Friday Sept 13th I received a bill in the mail for the work stating it has been completed. I called Shiner and left a message stating my frustration that nobody has attempted to contact me - they just sent me the bill. Shiner has not returned that call or any of my calls since signing the contract. I will pay the bill (in excess of 25K), but I certainly think they should stand by their commitments and return customer calls when there is a discrepancy in the work being performed.

We got estimates for the roof replacement from two companies and the approaches were significantly different. We selected Shiner because we agreed with the approach. The estimate called for replacing ten foundation boards to fix the problem. Once the roof was removed, it was clear that the problem was more extensive and we faced the decision whether to replace the problem boards or the ones on the whole roof. We decided to replace all the boards but informed Shiner that we were not happy with the original estimate. Mr. Shiner worked with us on a fair compromise which satisfied us. the roofing work was excellent. The team was very professional, came on time and did an excellent job. We especially liked the follow-up visit by the Shiner Quality Control person who noted any shortcomings which were fixed right away. We would rate Shiner as a solid B+, with the only issue the original estimate not being complete enough.

The two guys were quick and thorough. Did a beautiful job and left the area clean inside and outside the house.

Overall went well. We were promised that if we purchased a selected roofing material the roof wouldn't discolor or stain. The roof is already starting to stains so in hindsight I probably wouldn't have picked the higher costing materials. Also, one of the workers fell through a rotten board on the roof and put his leg through one of our bedrooms plaster walls. Shiner sent in a professional to fix the damage that was done. No questions asked.

estimators very punctual. got window of sep 2 to oct 2 for the work, but they actually did the work early on aug 30. workers were all polite and friendly.

They performed the work in our absence on the day scheduled. We returned home to find the job done flawlessly and the area completely clean and free of debris.

Estimate was $1,000.00 more than two other estimates for the exact same installation size and product.

Roofing material arrived two days before start date roofers arrived at specified time, started early a.m. worked diligently all day. Completed task exactly as specified. Cleaned up after themselves at all times. Pleasant, friendly and competent.

Shiner installed additional gutter drains and unplugged a few others. They were very efficient and professional. The finished product was great.
