We contacted three roofing companies - all Angie's List members. One only provided a verbal estimate. One provided a better price (at its face) but left so many ambiguities that we were afraid of many "upcharges". Shiner - in the person of Bill McGarvey - spent an hour going on the roof, providing us with instant photographic evidence of what work was to be done. He provided a very detailed price estimate, and worked with us on scheduling (we had to deal with our HOA given that we were changing the shingle style...) The crew showed up on Monday at 8AM. By noon, they had the entire roof (main house, garage and screened porch) stripped, rotted wood replaced, and weatherproofing down. At about 3:00, the rain started. When I returned home at 5:30, the crew (led by foreman Isaii and field supervisor Andy) was still at work putting tarps on the unfinished roof surfaces and cleaning up the grounds. They got washed out on Tuesday but Wednesday they returned, and when I stopped by the house at noon, they were finished and almost completely packed up. A day and a half of labor - not surprising given the crew size (at least six, maybe seven men) and the teamwork they exhibited. Every man seemed to know exactly what he was supposed to do, and when. The gutter crew showed up on Thursday and were every bit as efficient as the roofing team. Shiner's team excelled. We've already recommended them to two friends who need roof work.

The estimator ( Dave Wahrendorff) came on time was very friendly and knowledgeable. The estimate was to either fix my problem with the ridge vent or replace the entire thing. I thought both figures for the work were slightly high but fair. The problem came later. I choose to go with a competitor to just fix the vent because I liked their price better than Shiners. Anyhow a couple of weeks after Shiners estimate I received an unsolicited phone call from someone at Shiner named ( Sophia Jones). I figured maybe there was some issue because in the message she did not leave any specific information regarding her call. She just stated to call her back. Before I could do so Ms. Jones sends me an e-mail trying to sell me on unsolicited services. I was annoyed with the fact the phone call made it seem important and all it was about was trying to sell me more services I did not ask for or needed. I just blew it off figuring it was just something they did once and once I did not respond it would cease. I WAS WRONG! This woman continued to call every few weeks leaving messages on my home phone, my cell phone and via e-mail. Every phone message was the same (As if I owed them money or something) Mr. XXXXX this is Sophia Jones from Shiner roofing please call me back at (Phone Number). Finally today 8/6/14 I had enough and replied to Ms. Jones e-mail and told her to end her communication with me. I would of done this sooner had it not been for them constantly calling and e-mail during business hours while I was at work. Talk about the wrong way to try and win new business! I will never do business with this company in the future nor will I recommend them to anyone in my neighborhood! Update: 8/18/2014 My response to Shiner Roofing's response on my review. I am posting the email sent from Sophia Jones and Shiner Roofing in order to show that their constant harassment had nothing to do with reviewing a site visit or to do a quality survey. It was nothing but using all my contact information to sell me unsolicited services. All the e-mails were exactly the same. No mention of a survey or asking me to inform them how the site visit went. When the roof of our 1994 townhouse was inspected last year (original roof), we were told that it was in decent shape and would last another five years. We, therefore, opted to have the leaks repaired as opposed to replacing the entire roof. Big mistake and waste of money! One year and six months later the roof has developed a new sizable leak. Shiner informs that we are outside the one year warranty period; so despite their misguided advice, they will do nothing for us other than come out and provide an estimate.

Fantastic. First, this is a "class" operation. Efficient scheduling, personable and knowledgeable estimation, quality installation by courteous staff and great follow-up. They were very professional from beginning to end and excellent value for investment. The job site was meticulous/clean, the work crew worked fast, but expertly, and were very friendly. And they knew the work to be performed and did it well. Impressed by the pricing and attention to detail. Would use them without hesitation the next time I need roofing, siding and gutter work done. They are one of the few companies out there that understand copper gutters and slate roofs and seem dedicated to quality. Scheduling is very efficient and organized/professional. Use them and you won't be disappointed.

It was a pleasure doing business with Shiner Roofing. Starting with the request for an estimate on the new roof. The office staff was efficient and set up the appointment to meet our schedule. The estimator arrived on time. He was polite and professional. We liked the fact that the estimator actually went up into our attic to look for water damage before giving us the final estimate. He answered all of our questions and discussed the materials they planned to use. When it came time to schedule the work the office staff kept us posted about dates and changes due to rain. We found this very helpful. The crew that came to do the work arrived on time. They were very respectful of our property and they cleaned everything up when they were done. This is the second time we have used Shiner Roofing for a home repair. The work was well done both times. We highly recommend them.

First, I gave Shiner the D mark due to specific incidents detailed below. They are very proficient in putting on siding and my house looks wonderful. Both the salesman and the field supervisor were very good. The people at the office were responsive to my needs. The crew was always very polite. While the crew I had was very proficient in putting on the siding, they were pretty careless in treating the fixtures attached to my house. On the first day, they burst a water pipe under the kitchen sink which was feeding the water faucet on the wall outside. This happened because they were pulling the faucet way out from the wall, in order to place some backing behind it. In doing so, the water pipe under the sink was pulled along with the faucet and this caused it to rupture. A plumber had to be called to fix the situation and while he was there the crew was still pulling on the faucet and he had to shout at them to cut it out! On the second day, the crew somehow managed to cut a wire leading from the outside heat pump/ac to the air handler in the attic which knocked out the A/C for several days. Also on the second day, someone pulled the Verizon cable on a wall right out of its connection inside the wall, which led to our WiFi upstairs. Thus no internet for several days. These incidents were not caused by any "vibration" which we had been informed about. I would advise any Angie's List member who decides to use Shiner in the future to make sure and have a close conversation with the crew chief concerning protection of fixtures that lead into the house.

The work was wonderful. They fixed leaks in the roof that nobody else could figure out how to do. The gutter system is very efficient and works perfectly.

Shiner was extremely professional throughout the job and did excellent work. We dealt with about ten of their employees throughout the job and were universally impressed. Their price before discounts was a little higher than the competition, but after discounts they were competitive. It's been about nine months since the job and everything still looks fabulous despite the harsh winter. I would definitely recommend Shiner to anyone considering roof work.

We'd called Shiner out two years ago to replace a plugged drier vent. This call was for the same problem.,They did the repair even though it was technically outside their warranty period. On this call for the recurring problem, the lady on the phone argued with me about the part being wrong. The replacement vent from the initial work had screens too small for lint to get out, which caused the blockage recurrence. She did schedule someone to do an inspection and provide an new estimate. During that on-sight visit, the tech understood my question about the wrong vent having been installed. He said there are two styles that look similar from the outside and he thought the installer two years earlier had mounted the wrong one. While he was here, he called the owner for an ok to make the replacement at no charge. Initially, they expected it would take a couple weeks before the work could be done. Even here they pleasantly surprised us. The work was actually completed within a week of the site visit. The person who did the work was prompt, friendly and efficient. We appreciate them standing by their work, even though the office person hassled us. The phone interaction was the reason for the B grades in Overall and Professionalism. I would still consider Shiner for work in the future.

It was a great experience. They were prompt, professional and worked under budget. They said everything else in my house was fine and never tried to suggest jobs which were unnecessary. I appreciated that.

The consultant (Bill McGarvey) came to check out my roof because we found cedar shakes laying around. He checked my roof for about 15-20 minutes and I was surprised to hear him say there was nothing wrong with my roof and it looked intact. He told me it's probably shakes from my neighbors not mine. He could have ripped me off but he didn't. He was honest & very professional. He told me my roof is good for another 3 to 8 years before I have any problems. When I asked how much I owed him, he said it's free. He just made my day. I will certainly think of them when it is time to replace my roof and will definitely recommend him to my neighbors.

If it had not been for weather conditions (snow, ice, very cold) work would have been completed in one day vice two, overall - work was excellent.

Snider was able to complete the job within 6 weeks of my call, despite the fact that the weather forced two postponements. They showed up as scheduled on the day agreed upon and as promised, finished the job on the same day. The crew was courteous and professional, and overall did a very good job. I was particularly impressed by their careful cleanup of the jobsite when they were finished. The price was a bit higher than I expected, but that could just as easily have been sticker shock on my account as anything else.

In spite of several delays due to weather, job was completed promptly. We were kept informed of reasons for delays and when to expect service to be performed. Excellent overall.

The guys were great! Both of them were knowledgeable, gave me an estimate, I said to go ahead and the work was completed to my satisfaction!

The project took two days due to the weather. My house has two roofs and the upper roof was completed the first day, with the lower roof completed the second day. My project was done in February, so there were actually two crews brought in to do the work (not so many roofing projects going on, so the crews were itching to help out). With the snow, the cleanup occurred about a week after the roof was complete, and I still am finding stray nails, but they were buried under now-melting snow, and I don't blame the crew for that. They went around with a large magnet and did their best. The roof itself looks great. They installed a new eave-vent system and new roof vent to improve my 1962 house's ventilation system (which had failed, resulting in mold in the attic - see Valor Cleaning for my review of that process, which was great!). All in all, Shiner has now done my roof, my siding and my gutters. I would recommend them again, and will use them again for projects in the future (windows are next)!

Shiner roofing did an excellent job. They showed up on time for both the estimate and work. They were wonderful at coordinating with the carpenters we hired to do some repair work and replace the railings. They explained in detail the options and the advantages of each. They did not push their highest price roof. They told us it was not necessary because the roof was over a porch and we decided on a slightly less expensive product. Shiner roofing was very professional in all aspects of the process from the initial contact to invoicing. All workers were courteous and the work was completed in a very timely manner. I would recommend them to anyone and we will certainly use them again if roof work is needed again.

Bill, the estimator, was great. He took time to explain the estimate and the work to be done. the scheduling was nice and easy and the office staff I worked with were helpful. Great turnaround from the time I sent in my deposit til the work was done. Because of the work that needed to be done, I needed two crews out to my place. Luckily they were scheduled on the same day. Initial visit was postponed due to bad weather, but the office staff kept me up to date. When weather cleared the crews were professional and efficient. No complaints throughout the process. Definitely will call again if needed.

Shiner Company salesman made an exorbitant quote which I respectfully declined. He then sent an unprofessional email as follows: "....Use my proposal as your tool with part num and all for who ever you get anyone does it different throw that money on the fire you will fix again good luck...." They did a great job cleaning up the job site when the work was completed.

The two technicians (Wayne and Michael) were friendly and professional. They nailed down the ridge vent, installed exterior caulking to seal around the nails and did a few other things to ensure there were no further leaks. I was curious and wanted to see the roof top but figured it was best not to use their ladder and see what they were doing. They did saw that I should feel free to contact them if there was a leak again in the same area and they would return to look at the problem again. I don't expect any problems but that was nice of them to say. I would definitely call this company again whenever I may need to replace the roof on the house. Nice work!! AAAA+++++

Their service was excellent. We had a leak in the roof because of the temperature. We had already put the deposit down. They had told us that it could be possible that they might do the work only in March or April. There were three warm days in December. As soon as we had the first warm day they called us. They came out right away and installed the roof. Now the temperature has again gone down and it could have been March or April to get the new roof. We were very fortunate because we had a leak and without the new roof it would have been terrible right now. There was nothing we could have done about it. Their price was good. I had three estimates and it was actually the middle estimate.

responed to request quickly; clear and concise evauation and bid; one we approved the bid, the transition between sales and service was bumpy. this was a leaking roof repair which had urgency as a major storm was headed in. We had to call a number of times to make sure the work got scheduled in time. It did, but as we were out of town we only knew from our neighbors that the work had been done. so - very good work at good price, and ultimtely very timely and fast. but pretty limited communication with the customer after the sale, requiring more pushing from us than should have been necesary. Would certainly use again, but would be more forceful on the front end regarding communications needs.

Ryan Turner from Shiner Roofing came in today. He was very courteous and professional. Ryan provided honest advice on how to deal with the apparent leak that we have without ever trying to sell services we do not need. Honesty is a quality that is very much appreciated especially in this type of business. We will definitely contact Shiner for repairs if the leak turns out to be real and requires roof repair.
