The inspector arrived on time and checked out a minor leak and performed an overall roof inspection. He confirmed the leak was no longer an issue (occurred before a recent siding repair) and gave me a report on the current condition of my roof and did some minor caulking. I was pleased with his report, advice and estimate of when my roof will need to be replaced several years from now. His ball park estimate of the replacement cost will be helpful in planning for that big ticket repair.

Overall, Ryan seemed to be really nice and professional. It is not a requirement that the homeowners are home, but I needed to be home since I had signs of leakage inside. So for the first two appointments we set up, he didn't show up and he didn't call to reschedule. Granted the weather was bad both times, but a call to reschedule the appointments would have been nice. I called him both times to reschedule after he didn't show up. (Note: I got the times mixed up for the first appointment, but he still didn't call me back to reschedule.) For my third appointment we scheduled, he forgot about the appointment altogether. However, when I called him to let him know he'd missed the third appointment, he sincerely apologized and responded quickly by coming by to perform the inspection. I try to give the benefit of the doubt, so I assume he was just terribly busy. Once he performed the inspection, he gave me a detailed explanation and cause of the problem. Thankfully, it was not anything major but the minor repairs would cost a cool $1,700 based on his estimate.
Description of Work: I purchased the Roofing Inspection Package for $75. Took photos of the roof and did some caulking.

.A man came to the house and inspected the roof and used some caulking to repair leaks. He said he would send an estimate for a more permanent repair of one major leak or for a full replacement of the roof. This is where things went wrong. I never got a written report of any sort and when I called the company, no one called back. I feel that I still don't know much more than I did before the inspection, and I will have to call someone else (or probably more than one company) in order to get estimates and the leak fixed. I can, speak to the quality of what was done, because I can not see it or otherwise judge what was done.
Description of Work: Our roof was inspected and caulking was applied for some minor repairs. The inspector said more work was needed for a leak in one area.

I initially emailed the POC given by Angie's List. I hadn't gotten a response in over 48 hours so I called to set up a time for them to come out and provide an service that included the following: Inspection of your home by a roofing specialist Minor roof repairs that can cause water infiltration Caulking exposed nail heads on flashing Maintenance of resealing around any unsealed pipe collars, exhaust fans/vents and chimney flashing The receptionist informed me that Deryl Middleton was on vacation but she could set up the time for them to come out and provide an inspection. It seems like this is basically a paid consultation, because she said at that time we would be told what was wrong and given a quote. I knew it was just some minor seals that needed to be fixed above a bay window. The day before the service they called to confirm the time and date for the service. They left a message on both phone numbers provided. On the day of service they never showed up, called or left a note. I requested a refund and will be using someone else. Unfortunately for us, we hadn't seen all those bad ratings because it took about 2 weeks to set up an appt.

He was a very nice and very polite but he didn’t communicate very well.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our roof. Evidently it was where the solar heating panel was. The lag bolts were coming out. He put some caulking around those and it stopped the leak. However, my husband wanted him to come back and do something else in connection with that called him after that and he never responded. My husband then contacted the insurance company and they sent else someone back.

I knew I had a few missing roof tiles and anticipated a price quote for minor repairs. I purchased the Angies List deal. I called the company up front to let them know I wanted someone to look at my roof as soon as possible. Someone from the roofing company left a voicemail on my home phone within a couple of days, then showed up during the day with little notice; went up on the roof and told my adult son that he would contact me with an estimate and photographs. Crickets....... I waited several days and called the company. They gave me the cell phone number of the guy who went up on my roof. I called him, he said he was working and would call me back at 7pm that night. Crickets....... A few days later I called the company again, spoke with the young lady who answered the phone, she was going to leave a message for "Ryan" to call me back. Nothing. It has now been a month since Ryan went up on my roof. We have had some rain and are supposed to have snow tonight. I'm going to call the company again this morning. From my perspective, I gave them $69 and got nothing in return. At this point, I'd either like my $69 back and/or their estimate so I can contact a more reliable roofing company to perform the repairs. Update - 31 Jan 2013. After my third phone call to the company, I was called back, told there were a few shingles missing that that a repairman would come and fix the problem. Again, no firm date, all dependent upon the weather. A few days later I received another email that the repair would be delayed because of weather. My wife returned to the house about noon today (about a week later), the repair guy was in the driveway and said he had already been on the roof and replaced some shingles. I've paid the bill which was exactly what my insurance estimator told me it would be, although NVRoofing's estimate indicated this was a substantial discount from their normal price. I re-looked at the other evaluations and found a lot of other people had exactly the same experience. I'm sure this is a reputable firm, but their serious lack of communication and coordination left me feeling that they have management problems.

Well, I called and they said that by chance, someone would be in the area on Thursday Dec. 14. It wasn't a "solid" appointment, but he said they would try to call us, and I provided two numbers. They never called, so I called back Friday, and the woman said there were two people handling the deal who were doing the inspections, and that they would contact me as the consumer. I waited and waited, and then called in again. I asked to schedule an apointment, and she said I couldn't. She said I had to wait for these gentleman to schedule it, but I never heard from them. I was fortunate that I was able to schedule someone else before the weather turned.
Description of Work: I called them because we wanted to have the roof checked. We purchased a Big Deal for roof maintenance. When it was windy, there was noise coming through the roof. We had already had the attic inspected, so we were pretty sure it was the roof. We decided to use this deal to help us with this problem.

I've been waiting over a month for them to send me an estimate with all the pictures he told me he took and the work he did. I've called and left messages at least 3 times since and still nothing. We went up to inspect the roof ourselves recently and it didn't look like he did anything. What a waste of $75...that's how they get you.

The company representative promptly left a message on my home phone asking me to return the call to set up a date to perform the service. So far so good. BUT...I was unable to respond to the company until yesterday 12/18. I left a message that I would like to have the service done the first week of January. I explained that I purchased the coupon as - after Sandy- I discovered a ceiling leak and shingle in my yard. I wanted to use the inspection to see if it could be coming from a roof problem. Instead of returning my call, the company representative sends me an email.....today 12/18. Email states that the inspection was performed SEVEN days ago on 12/11 and while their are missing shingles, all looks pretty good. Even has 2 pictures. Interesting you wait 7 days to email me the results...and only after I have left a voice mail???? This is not at all what I wanted or inspected. I hope the company is credible enough to recognize that this was not up to the standards expected of Angie's List providers and promptly refund my monies

Did not hire them due to high estimate.
Description of Work: We did not end up using this company because out of the 5 estimates we got from different vendors these guys were the MOST expensive. The sales person seemed extremely knowledgeable and he was very professional and willing to answer questions. But, I could tell by comparison to the other vendors that this company tries to push expensive products instead of suggesting the most economic but effective solutions.

Response from Northern Virginia Roofing Co
We acknowlege homeowner's statements but strongly disagree with her when she says "this company tries to push expensive products". We "push" a 25 yr, manufactured-backed labor warranty which only a few contractors in the entire region are allowed to provide. This extended warranty does come with a premium cost, but several studies have shown that without a manufacturer backed warranty (which includes several additional steps and costs to the roofing system) many new roofs are inadequately installed.

I have just become a member of Angie's list. Roofers were left alone without supervision. When the flat roof was finished, there were obvious bubbles in the roof. To correct this, roofers somehow got out bubbles and put patches that look like band-aids over the areas affected. This is very unattractive. It can be seen when looking out my windows from the living room and sun porch area on the second level, and from the 3rd level bedroom area. I did not feel that this was acceptable and asked Northern Virginia Roofing management to look at it which they did, but they did not care about it. Later, there was a leak which my husband fixed. My husband did roofing when he was younger, and he thought it was a bad job. Northern Virginia Roofing did not seem to care about quality of work or good customer relations, at least in this case. It is unfortunate, because I knew they had been in Northern Virginia for some time and were a family run operation, which is why I chose them.

NV installed a $35K+ roof for us two years ago. In Sandy we had a water leak that we thought was due to the roof. I called NV about 9 pm during the storm. NV President, John Francis, as well as a manager, called me back and emailed me back almost immediately. They, along with two workers, came out early the following morning despite the weather and checked the roof. They did a water test which showed that it was not a roof leak but was due to a cracked brick and bad mortar joint. I was thrilled with the service. They had a lot of calls, the weather was terrible, yet they came right away and inspected the roof and diagnosed the problem. When I asked Mr. Francis what I owed him for the service call as there was no problem with the roof he said "nothing." It just does not get any better than NV!

This was probably as painless an experience as replacing a roof could be. We have a large hip roof, so aesthetics were very important to us, but we did not want to stay with cedar shingles. We looked at a lot of materials and got estimates from 5-6 companies. NV's sales rep, Travis, was very knowledgeable and helpful when it came to comparing materials, bids, and warranties. While NV's was not the cheapest bid, they offered the best warranty (GAF's Golden Pledge), and we were reassured to know that GAF would send a rep to inspect the work after it was completed to ensure everything had been done properly. While other companies estimated the work would take a week, NV had it done in 3 days flat. The crew was efficient , meticulous and pleasant, and the site was clean at the end of every day. The few punchlist items we had were completed promptly, and we found almost no nails, etc., in the yard after they were done. While we had been worried about moving to composite shingles, we are very happy with the roof''s appearance and have had no problems despite the heavy rains we had this summer and fall. We recommend NV highly and would use them again in a heart beat.

The fix they made to the rooof lasted only two years. When we called to request them to fix it, they told us the warranty expired and that they would fix it at an additional charge.
Description of Work: After searching Angies' List, we hired Northern Virginia Roofing to repair the roof due to leaks and to fix gutters. They did both and everything seemed fine until 2011. We had a leak in the same place as before. We called and let them know that their repair lasted only two years. We were told that the warrantly had expired and it would be an additional charge to fix the probelm. Needless to say, we hired someone else -- Shiner's.
