Travis came in the first time to find he didn't have a long enough ladder for our roof. Had not been given this info by the receptionist whom I had told it was a three-storey. But he was very polite and reschedule was prompt. This time he came in with a friend and they did their job quickly and efficiently. Did point out a further roof section repair we could schedule, but did not press for us to buy such service from them; instead provided a quote via email as requested and left it at that. In fact, he forgot to take the $75 additional charge we needed to pay over the coupon for needing the longer ladder -- we are yet to hear from him on that payment we owe!
Description of Work: We bought a $75 coupon for roof maintenance and caulking; it was specified on the coupon that our three-storey high roof would require an additional charge of $75, but we knew that still remained a good deal and went ahead and bought it. The service was provided exactly as advertised.

Just to get siding on my house -- there were other storms predicted -- Northern Virginia Roofing Company expertly and quickly used the damage siding to make a temporary repair.
Description of Work: The terrible storm in late June 2012 tore off siding on the gable over my garage. Based on Angie's List high rating of this company I rang them up to carry out the repairs/replacement of the siding. Within 24 hours the repairman showed up at my house, surveyed the damage, and estimated how much it would cost to fix the siding. My house was about 30 years old, and apparently the aluminum siding was discontinued a few years ago. The repairman offered to salvage the pieces and restore them. He did that, and while the result was satisfactory at best -- the siding was bent and punctured -- I appreciated his efforts. I contracted later with House Doctors, who deserve great praise, sourcing a supply of the siding in Norfolk and then painting it to match the existing siding.

The work was timely, well done. Shortly thereafter we lost power for 7 days due to the July derecho. We were able to use the inlet as intended. It worked like a charm. WIthout it we would have lost our food and melted in the sweltering heat. I wish we had called sooner.
Description of Work: We had a power inlet installed so when we lose power we can plug our generator right into the fuse box to power selective areas of the house.

Arrived on time and the individual who performed an inspection of the roof/attic and performed general maintenance was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional. He answered many questions and was very patient. I requested an estimate for the replacement of 2 skylights and attic insulation - I followed up with a phone call after a week or so and never heard anything. I'm sure they do great work and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because they are very busy, but if I don't receive a follow-up then I can't hire them.

The worker from Northern Virginia Roofing found an area on the roof that produced a leak. He said he thought it was due to a limb falling on the roof during a recent storm. I asked him for an estimate to repair. The repair he suggested involved replacing the plywood under-layment and re-shingling that area. The price estimate was about $800. He did a thorough inspection and delivered the service I paid for. However, since the roof was about six years ago, I thought it might be under warranty so I contacted the company that did the original roofing, Katchmark.Comstruction. A representative from Katchmark came out and looked at it and told me he thought the damage was from an animal, likely a squirrel or raccoon, trying to get into the attic and that all that was needed was to replace a few damaged shingles and re-tack a few others. He completed the work in about 15 minutes and didn't charge me even though the shingle warranty did not cover this type of repair.

I purchased THE BIG DEAL in February and was immediately given a service date that was convenient for me. Unfortunately, the roofer was running late and called late in the day to tell me he couldn't make it that day. I was a little annoyed because I had taken the afternoon off from work but I can understand when things take longer than anticipated. The roofer (Ryan) was very apologetic and accommodating on rescheduling at my convenience. He said he would be out at 10am on Friday, March 25, and he showed up at 10! After inspecting my roof and doing some minor caulking, Ryan informed me my roof was in excellent condition. He could have told me I needed a new roof and I probably would have believed him, but he was very professional in his assessment and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't truly need. I was very grateful for that and will likely call them again when I need repairs.

The process began this past January when I purchased the deal and contacted the company. Today is the 14th of March and I have been cancelled 3-4 times. The frosting on the cake came when I received an email announcing that they would be coming next week. Frankly I had my doubts. Included in the message was the statement that I would not have to be home when they came; and that I was to provide them with a credit card number as they were charging another $75. Their claim being that our roof was too steep - or - our house is extra tall. We have the atypical townhome - the same size as others. We've also had work done on our roof several times and never did those terms come up when it was being worked on. I have cancelled the service and will never do business with them. A month and a half have been wasted waiting for them - time that could have been spent having any problems we might have resolved by another company.

Please see above narrative....I am extremely disappointed.
Description of Work: Nothing was performed.....I wanted the Angie's BIg Deal for the roof on my gazebo and they did nothing...I asked the technician to measure the peak of the gazebo for a new finial and he did not (did not have a ladder in his truck...what kind of a roofing company does not carry ladders?) but gave me his best "eyeball" estimation of size...I CAN DO THAT. I do not want to have a finial fabricated until I know the exact measurement that is required for the base; I asked him for a quote to clean and seal the cedar shingles on the gazebo, I have not received it; I also asked for an estimate to install the new finial, I received an e-mail that the installer wanted to see the finial to determine how much work would be involved in installing it (I'm not about to spend $1,000.00+ on something and then not be able to have it installed); and finally, I asked for a quote on having a locking-seam (standing seam) metal roof installed on my portico, I have not received it either. Oh, the technician also said that he would refund my Angie's list fee for their services because he did nothing....I have not received it. Also, I had to call this company to request they respond to my purchase on Angie's List, they did not initiat a call to me to set-up service. All in all, I would give this company an "F". How difficult is it to write a proposal to clean/seal a small cedar roof, install a finial (I do have a spec drawing that I showed to the technicial when he was here, and that he did not ask for a copy), and install a standing seam metal roof on a small portico? VERY DISAPPOINTED...

He showed up at the scheduled date and time, but because it was raining and he said he did not have the correct ladder to access my roof, he just inspected the attic area and didn't find any issues. We re-scheduled for him to come back the following week. When he did not show up on the new date and time, we called him using the number on the business card he gave us, and at first he had no recollection of coming to our house and then re-scheduling.He finally remembered, and promised to come the following week, for which he was again a no-show. At this point, after this experience, and after reading recent reviews, I don't want these guys on my roof so will just look elsewhere.

I had purchased an Angie's List Big deal. I purchased the additional deal and nobody has come back since. They were very nice and when the guy came, he took a brief look inside my house. They didn't do what they were supposed to do and they charged me more money. They were on time. The guy was very nice; they just haven't done what they were supposed to do. I would like them to come and do the work but I am starting to question the quality and wondering if they are trying to pull a fast one.
Description of Work: Northern Virginia Roofing came out and they said that because of the way my roof was, I actually needed to buy another $75 deal because they needed two people to do the work.

We approached NV Roofing as a Master Elite installer for GAF. Although each of the Master Elite installers we consulted were excellent companies with whom we would be willing to work with, NV Roofing was able to provide all that we were seeking in a roofing company at the most reasonable price. Our primary contact from NV Roofing throughout the course of the project was Travis Livingston. Travis was extremely helpful and communicative throughout the course of work NV Roofing performed on our roofing. We first started working with Travis in late July which was when we had started to actively explore roofing options and to obtain quotes from several roofing companies in the area. Prior to replacement of the roof in Dec 2012, we had also arranged with NV Roofing to install a tarp over our entire roof in early September. Because of the age and condition of the roof, we were concerned that there could be potential damages to the roof and attic if we were to experience a major storm during hurricane season. The tarp actually looked very good, and, more important, it worked great - it did its job throughout the fall season, including holding up through the whole of Hurricane Sandy. Having the tarp afforded us the time to prepare for the eventual total replacement project. Their tarp installation crew - led by Roberto - was terrific, and Roberto is a true craftsman and really was accommodating in working with us to meet our needs for the temporary added protection. Roberto also worked on replacing the siding for our one dormer on the roof as part of the roof replacement project, so we think it was useful that he was already familiar with the house as a result of his work on the tarp. The replacement of the roof was predominantly undertaken the week of Dec 3-7, with some minor follow-up work performed on Dec 21. Due to some unique circumstances, it was essential that roof be installed in very dry conditions, and Travis provided for the perfect conditions for the installation. In the time spent leading up to the work, we communicated several times with Travis about different options and objectives we had in mind for the replacement. He was easy to work with and responsive to emails and phone calls as we iterated on the terms of the final contract. Travis also took time to be onsite for the whole of the first day of the project, in order to insure all the necessary materials were delivered. When the plywood was delivered by another company, Travis and Jose (an NV Roofing manager) took extra time to consult the company and alleviate our concerns regarding discoloration on some of the plywood sheets. NV Roofing's crew, led by Carlos, was well-trained, and due to the need for extensive flashing work (due to brick parapet walls framing each end of the roofline), they made sure to provide crew members experienced in working with older brick homes. The crew made sure to protect the roof from any potential overnight rainfall, and were careful to protect other parts of the house throughout the course of the project. Travis continued to check in each day on progress being made, and at several points when we had questions, or wanted to clarify or make minor changes to aspects of the contract, he was available and open to address and meet or needs. We greatly appreciated the coordination provided by NV Roofing to allow for another company to come in and remove asbestos shingles from our dormer. At the end of the week, the vast majority of the work on the roof was complete, including installation of all the new roofing materials, flashing, gutters, downspouts and siding. We discovered after some time passed and we had some rainfall, that one of the gutters they installed was not properly draining, and NV Roofing sent back a team to make corrections (improved the pitch) which was successful. The last part of the project involved installing a copper pipe collar on the waste stack. Once again we appreciated NV Roofing's flexibility and willingness to coordinate with our plumbing company to perform this task. Carlos, the crew chief on our project, returned to work with the plumbers to replace the pipe and new pipe collar, completely securing the new shingles around the pipe collar. Small air gaps at the corners of the dormer, which could only be seen from the interior, were sealed with the waterproof barrier and copper flashing by Carlos. With that last bit of work, the project was completed. We've monitored the roof and attic the past couple of months since work was completed, and everything looks to be fine - no leaks and everything is functioning according to design. We opted for an extended warranty offered by the manufacturer of the roofing materials used by NV Roofing (GAF). One of the manufacturer's inspectors verified during his visit to our home at the end of January that their work met the requisite standards to enable our roofing to qualify for the extended warranty. We feel that we received a "custom" roof installation and would highly recommend NV Roofing to anyone who requires a company who will provide not only for a high quality roof, but is also skilled in accommodating unique circumstances.
Description of Work: Removed original pine planks and installed new 5/8" CDX fir plywood Installed new synthetic underlayment on roofing, and new waterproof barrier along all eaves, valleys, sidewalls, penetrations and chimneys. Installed new drip edges and new gutter apron along both eaves Installed GAF architectural shingles Installed new copper flange around new waste stack Installed new step and counter flashings along chimneys and brick parapet walls (16 oz. copper), and new apron flashing (16 oz. copper) Installed new ridge vent Installed new fascia and soffits Installed new 6" seamless aluminum gutters and 3"x 4" downspouts Removed existing wood siding on one roof dormer, and installed new Tyvek with James Hardie Siding and trim. Cleared and hauled away all refuse and debris, rolled yard for nails/metal fragments

The project manager, Travis Livingston, arrived on time and performed his job diligently. He provided the information we needed to make a decision about our roof --- whether to repair or install a new one. He spoke in layman's terms, was honest and straight-forward. He was pleasant and courteous. We decided to go with another roofer basically because we had been working with them and they were giving a credit toward the new roof. Otherwise -- this company would have been a great choice.

The guy came and he went up on the roof and he looked and he came back and he had pictures and he showed me the pictures. I think 2 or 3 shingles had blown off of the house because of the rain and the wind we have gotten. He showed me pictures that I could look down into the attic. He said that he would come back and try to get back before the holidays and get it fixed. But, he didn't come back. So, I called and I couldn't get him. I called several times. Finally, I talked to somebody and she said that he was out of town. He didn't come so I had to get busy and hire somebody else to get it done. I would never hire him to do anything again.

I took advantage of the Angie's List Big Deal offer to have my roof inspected. Though it was difficult to get timely responses to e-mail or telephonic questions, the technician did a thorough job and even completed minor repairs to prevent water leaks. Additionally he provided an estimated life time remaining for the existing roof and provided recommended services (with cost estimates) to improve the condition of the roof. I have seen the Angie's List Big Deal offer for a roof inspection and I would recommend taking advantage of the Big Deal offer when presented as it provides for an inspection, minor fixes (e.g., resealing, etc.), and a "way ahead" plan for $75.00 (regular price $400.00 or so).

The guy, Travis, was awesomely nice and helpful. He took a look at a minor stain on our ceiling, immediately knew where to look on the roof, found the issue, took pictures to show me, and then did the best he could to fix it without having to replace certain pieces of our roof (like the vent and pipe). He let me know some things to consider repair/replacing down the line, but didn't try to upsell me on anything on the spot. He didn't show me pictures of the fixes once he was done, but then again, I didnt think to ask, so here's hoping! But again, he did seem very trustworthy, unlike many repair people. The company did have to reschedule twice, both times making excuses for the weather, once which was legitimate, once was not (it was 50 degrees and dry, but due to a little cold drizzle the day before, they said there were ice concerns). Overall a pretty good experience. Couldn't beat the price.
Description of Work: I used the Angie's List coupon, which was $75 for a basic roof checkup and maintenance package (normally almost $500). The guy fixed some nails and caulked some cracks around our pipe.

Great price on the roof maintenance, he found no major issues. Did some caulking for us and said everything looked okay for a roof that was the age of ours. We've had a lot of rain/precip lately and the only issue we had any water inside was blowing rain during Sandy (who didnt??!.) Anyways, this was a nice little deal to find.
