HUGE disappointment and disagreement with the grades posted for this company. There are two reasons why I give this company a failing grade: I purchased gutter cleaning through Groupon with an expiration date of 10/14. Called on 9/20 to schedule cleaning and was informed by Amanda that the Groupon had expired. When I told her that indeed it had not expired, she requested that I provide proof and send her a copy of the Groupon voucher which I did. Amanda returned my call that evening to schedule service. When I called back the next day Amanda told me that because I have "gutter guards" they will not service my gutters. She informed me that they only clean gutters with guards installed by their own company. (!) She told me to get a refund from Groupon! I spoke with the Groupon representative who confirmed that there was no mention of gutter guards in the original advertisement and a refund was issued. It is my opinion that Gutterman did not want to service my house at the Groupon price. When the expiration date was nullified as an excuse to get out of the job, the gutter guard issue became their bogus way of not honoring the Groupon. :(A survey of other reviews reveals that they do indeed service gutters with guards.) This experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth and requires a negative review of this company. In fact, I believe that lack of commitment to customer service will result in a decline in reputation for this company and Angie's List scores will eventually reflect their poor service.

They did a great job. Showed up when they were supposed to and cleaned out the gutters. No muss, no fuss.
Description of Work: I've used Gutterman Services three times to clean the gutters on my home. I like that I don't have to be home for them to do the work. I can tell they've been there because there is usually a bit of debris lying in the grass in front of the downspouts. I had water overflowing from my drains, called Gutterman to clean out the gutters...next major rain storm, no issues. Bottomline: they do exactly what they say they will do.

Installers did a great job with attention to detail and cleanup. I was very satisfied with the work done and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced all gutters with 6 inch gutters and 3x4 inch downspouts. Received $200 off estimate with Angie's coupon. This was the best price received from 3 estimates.

We have had a horrible experience with Gutterman Services. We have been lied to, ignored, treated rudely and had sub-standard work performed on our house and had a great deal of personal property damage done by the work crews. We were repeatedly told that the work would be performed on consecutive days and was supposed to be completed by Wednesday, July 11. The contract signed states work will be done within 7 days. Work was started on July 10 and the bulk was not finished until August 11, with a minor item still outstanding as of today, August 21. Gutterman canceled 3 scheduled dates to repair work done incorrectly, only one of which was due to weather. Below you will find a list of the areas that Gutterman agreed had deficient work performed but refused to come and remedy in a timely manner: Property damage? The Gutterman crew created a great deal of personal property damage to our home. They left a gaping hole in the roof of our gazebo and attempted to tie the pieces together with a piece of trim cap they were using to cap our door surround material. Most upsetting is that when we arrived home and walked around the house with one of the crew he did not bother to mention this. They also left numerous scratches on our outdoor heat pump. Additionally, there were numerous items broken within our home that were on the wall that was having siding placed on it outside. During the walk-through and at no other time was it ever mentioned that we needed to be concerned about any of our personal property, including the gazebo in our backyard or any of the items in our house on, or close to, the wall that the siding would be placed on. Gutterman provided compensation for some of the items, but not all, nor did they apologize or provide compensation for the time it took to clean, repair and replace the items they damaged or destroyed. Back door--A wrong door was ordered and no one bothered to check this before starting work and ripping out our current door and threshold so that it could not be replaced. The new door was supposed to have gridlines and a doggy door but the one they ordered had neither. We asked for them to cut in a dog door to this door while they ordered the correct door and both my husband and I were told individually by a Gutterman employee that it was a steel door and there was no possible way to cut into it. I told this Gutterman employee that something must be done as we could not wait weeks for a dog door and that same employee then ordered the crew to cut into the door. He blatantly lied to us that he couldn't cut into the door because he didn't want to, and I don't believe lying to a customer is ever acceptable. The correct door was supposedly put on rush order to arrive no later than July 24, but this door was not installed until August 11. The siding crew that was supposed to show up on July 10, then rescheduled to July 11 did not show up until July 13. I was at home all day on the 11th waiting for the crew and never received notification via phone or email and neither my or my husband?s numerous calls were returned until around 6pm. Additionally the back of the house where the door crew had pulled away siding on July 10 to install the door left the house exposed. We were never comfortable with this but the door crew assured us that the siding crew would be there on the 11th. They were not, and it rained very hard that night. We are still concerned if damage was caused by this water and if the damage will show itself months or years down the line. Additionally, the install crew didn?t seal all of the door seams. Front door-On Friday July 13 the door surround was worked on but the crew capped the header in a color we did not order and one that was different than the rest of the door making it look ridiculous. I have an email to Gutterman detailing the correct color scheme that was not followed. Also the trim cap at the top of the header had an unsightly seam right through the middle of it which Gutterman agreed to fix during a meeting on July 17 but that was not corrected until August 11. Lastly, the threshold and side were improperly caulked. Siding-Our contract included replacing the siding on the back of our home and the siding on the right side of the house. During our initial consultation, the salesman noted an area at the top where he was sure wood rot was the reason the trim cap on the rake board had pulled away. The board was completely exposed and black and we agreed to pay to replace it and it was part of our contract. We asked the siding crew about it on Friday, July 17th when they had been there working on our house when we were not home and they admitted that they did not replace it even though the contract stated it was to be replaced and we were being charged for it. On August 11 Gutterman came back and removed the siding and capping and admitted the board should have been replaced and replaced it.

Response from Gutterman Services Inc
Quite alot of the member comments are false and inaccurate. There was a custom door ordered that was a steele door with a doggie door included. The door was ordered incorrectly from Gutterman Services. Our installer had already taken out the old door before checking the new door to ensure it was correct. This was all our fault. Because the old door had been removed we had to install some type of door until the new (correct) door arrived. We told the customer's husband - who was there during the installation - that we could not cut into the door and put in a temporary doggie door because the crew did not have the tools with them to do so - we don't generally come equipped to cut into a steel door. But the customer insisted that she could not go without a doggie door until the new correct door arrived. Our General Manager went and purchased a doggie door insert, our crew went and got the correct tools and instead of being able to return the incorrect door and get a credit - we cut into the door and put a doggie door in for her. This door was a total loss. There were scheduling conflicts on both ends. At one point the husband cancelled our arrival date the night before because he had to go out of town unexpectedly. We had to go down to the job site and collect all of the materials and re-shelve them in our warehouse until they were ready for us to come out. There were damages to her gazebo fabric top. She also had some ceramics hung on the walls that were not removed during siding installation. Our contract stipulates to "prepare for disruption, noise etc". She gave an itemized list of the damages AND EVERY CENT THAT SHE ASKED FOR WAS CREDITED TO HER INVOICE. She continues to hang onto her statement that the contract says that we will complete the work in 7 days... and it very clearly states that the work should take no more than 7 days from commencement UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED. Obviously there were several conversations regarding scheduling and re-scheduling due to changes on both parties behalf. As was stated in an email to this client - we took 100% responsibility for the property damage at her home and compensated her as she requested. Her job looks great and she paid her bill just as soon as we were finished. It is unfortunate that there were problems during the installation - we make every effort to work quietly and with as little mess as possible however we were literally ripping off siding and doors. It seems evident that she was not prepared for any type of inconvenience as is customarily required when you have work crews at your home for an extended period. Gutterman Services, Inc. is a family business that has been servicing clients in the NOVA area for 27 years. Not every job has been performed flawlessly. We will always take 100% accountability when we have fallen short and remedy the problem as efficiently as possible while trying to meet the client's expectations and obtaining their complete satisfaction at the close of the job.

Despite living on a wooded lot surrounded by mature oak and other trees, the gutters have worked well with the occasional hosing or leaf blowing. Jorge did the estimate for today's work. He's been here before to check out a small problem we once had and to inspect and clean the gutters. Jorge is always so thorough and polite, going beyond the scope of his job. For example, once he rang the doorbell to let us know some chimney mortar was in bad shape, and that we should contact a mason. Our roofers had been up there a couple of times yet never said a word. This morning the crew did the repairs, cleaned up everything, and surprisingly, used a leaf blower to remove leaf/twig debris from the roof, and hosed down and wiped all existing gutters - not just the small sections they worked on. Once again I'm impressed with both Jorge and Gutterman's careful attention to details and work ethic.
Description of Work: Gutterman installed K-guard gutters about seven years ago. Today they replaced K-guard covers that were scratched by roofers.

The work was done in one day and they left the surroundings clean. I am impressed with the work Gutterman Services did and I will highly recommend them and will use them again in the future. Everything went very well. They even took down the piece of tree limb that was on the roof that I could not get myself. Thanks!
Description of Work: Removed previous and damaged gutter in the back and replaced with 6" seamless aluminum gutters with wedges, installed oversized 3 x 4 aluminum downspouts, and installed 3 feet of above ground drain to the downspout by the garage. Larry Bowersox was very professional and knowledgeable about the work that had to be done and was very patient explaining the different types of gutters. His demonstration of the materials helped very much as well. I also appreciated the heads-up communication from the office.

They were prompt in setting up the appointment and the time. They got the job done in a very reasonable time. They even gave me some options that would cost me less money. They were all very friendly and very professional. The price was a little higher than the others were but they make up on the quality, so it was worth the price.

I have a contract with them that they will come out and clean the gutters once in the fall and twice in the spring. I am going to drop the contract. They come much later in the year than I think that they should. For example, this spring they did not come until June. They never come until I call them and ask if they are coming. They do show up on the day they say but I always have to call first.

Normal installation time is 8 - 10 weeks; but the work wasn't done until mid-November. I did not get up on the roof to check the work; I was 60 then and climbing up onto a roof wasn't safe. Everything looked good from the ground though and I thought that I got what I ordered and paid for. However, in the Summer of '05, less than 2 years later, I noticed water stains in the ceiling of a bedroom. (This townhouse was built in '68, I moved there in '72, and in the 31 years between '72 and the 11/03 installation date, I'd never had water stains in any of my ceilings!) The City Inspector came and found "a 1/2" gap between the gutter board and the roof sheathing, which allowed a bird to enter the attic" (which he found dead). He also said that "Gutterman's baffles on the gutters did not allow the system to work properly, considering where they were placed, which was IN FRONT OF WHERE THE WATER WAS INTENDED TO GO, and which, therefore, altered the basic design and function of the PATENTED Gutterman Helmeted Gutter System". So I asked Gutterman to remove the baffles, they did; but they denied any responsibility for the water stains in the bedroom ceiling and they never tried to figure out what was causing the problem. However, I was told on 3 different occasions by 2 Gutterman people that "they cut the shingles short and there was a problem with the flashing". But they NEVER offered to come back to fix their own, admitted problems! Regarding the water stains: I, therefore, obtained estimates and evaluations from other roofers and they all confirmed what the City Inspector had said. Even though I had several opinions stating that Gutterman had basically done a faulty installation, Gutterman continued to refuse to even re-evaluate and inspect their own installation themselves and they continued to deny any responsibility for the water stains in the ceiling. Even though Gutterman advertises that with their patented gutter system, you will be "leaf-free" and "leaves go and water flows", their so-called "helmeted gutter system" continued to collect leaves. I was surprised because I thought that their baffles had been causing the leaves to collect; but the baffles were gone, so I couldn't figure out what was going on. Then in September '08 I had a handyman go up on the roof of my 2-story house and take photos! Guess what! Gutterman did NOT install their "patented helmeted gutter system on my roof" - THAT I ORDERED AND PAID FOR, they installed SCREENS on all four corners, and the screens were causing the stems of leaves to stick into the holes of the screens and therefore, to collect! WARRANTY: Even though there was a LifeTime Warranty on the gutters, and a 5-year Warranty on the siding/trim work, and that they advertise "UNCONDITIONAL GUARANTEES", Gutterman REFUSED to abide by the terms of their own contract. They refused to come to evaluate the situation, and they refused to come to correct their admitted "shingles cut short and flashing problem". Their ads claim to have "expert installers"; but in fact, the installers who came to my home could not speak a word of English! I wrote letters to the Better Business Bureau, but that proved fruitless. Gutterman's contract states that the Gutterman Helmeted gutter System is PATENTED! Yet, Gutterman ALTERED THE DESIGN OF THEIR PATENTED GUTTERMAN HELMETED GUTTER SYSTEM that I ordered and paid for, and installed screened corners and baffles - instead! Ultimately, since Gutterman was completely UNRESPONSIVE to my numerous requests to fix the situation, and to install what I ORDERED AND PAID FOR, I filed a suit against them. However, since so much time had elapsed since the original installation date, I lost my case. Had I known that Gutterman was completely UNTRUSTWORTHY, I would never have contracted with them to begin with. It's too bad that an old woman can't trust a roofing company and that she has to either climb up on her own roof to see that she got what she ordered, or that she has to hire someone to verify those same facts. What is this World coming to? THE WATER STAINS: My handyman figured out what the problem was and corrected the problem by caulking the affected area. The water stains stopped developing. If only Gutterman had installed what I ordered and paid for, and had the ethics, the willingness to correct their own, admitted errors in installation, I would never have sued them, and I would now be referring them with pleasure to everyone. What a shame. UPDATE 4.2.2013 In response to my 11/5/08 letter, Gutterman responded that because he recommended against the helmeted gutters, he concluded that I "signed off on accepting responsibility for any problems in installation"! OK! Please, if someone could explain to me why I would be responsible for problems in installation, I would be SO very, very grateful! I thought that when I reviewed them on Angie?s List last year, I was done with Gutterman, so I trashed their lying and deceitful letters because they were SO offensive. Sorry about that. But regardless, I have other evidence, if you need it, which I hope that Angie will be able to include when I file this response. Installation was on 11/22/03. Their agent told me on 12/14/05 that THEY had cut the shingles short & that, therefore, there was a problem with the flashing! Prior to Gutterman's installation, there was NO flashing; AFTER Gutterman's installation, THERE WAS - and you could easily see it from the ground. I NEVER, EVER COMPLAINED ABOUT WATER OVERFLOWING! I challenge Gutterman to produce any documentation that proves that I ?complained about water overflowing?! It NEVER happened! Installation of the screens and water diverters was done when the gutters were installed Nov. '03, NOT in April '04! They weren?t even here in April ?04! When I saw that leaves were collecting in the corners, & thinking that the diverters were the cause, I asked that they be removed; this was done in Dec. '05. And look at the Contract, the Installation Change Order, & the Invoice, you will not find ?screens? mentioned anywhere. They defended their position because if they had not showed up, the Judge would have ruled in MY favor; that?s the way that the Court operates! And all you have to do is look at the Warrant-in-Debt that I've attached & you will see that small claims court and the General District Court - are one and the same thing! End of story! I lost, not for lack of evidence, but because of the time frame. The Judge said ?I should have filed sooner?; because of the time frame, he had no option. I guess if you don't have a leg to stand on, you'll say just about anything to make yourself look good! My complaint was definitely NOT resolved, & I challenge Gutterman to produce the supporting documentation. Basically, when Gutterman responded to the BBB, they did the same thing that they did in their response to my review on Angie's List, they lied & obfuscated. The photos that I attached with my original review were GUTTERMAN'S OWN PHOTOS that they sent to the BBB, which the BBB forwarded to me! I was so grateful to receive those photos because the ones that my handyman took weren't that good & he didn't print them for me. And I'm sure that all of you consumers out there can appreciate that as well. However, on the other hand, don't THEIR OWN PHOTOS JUST PROVE - ALL THE MORE - THAT THEY DID NOT INSTALL WHAT I ORDERED & PAID FOR?! Yes, I knew that you'd agree with me! It?s the screened corners, which I did NOT order, that are the problem! Get it! I had screens before; I didn?t like them! Why would I want to pay $2,700 MORE for something I had before? In one letter that Gutterman wrote to me, they offered to install open, screened gutters at an additional cost of $698! I had open, screened gutters before the 11/03 installation, so again, why would I pay them an additional $698, + the previous $2,700, to install what I had before?! That was NOT an offer to resolve the matter; IT WAS ANOTHER SALE! Gutterman repeatedly claims that they don?t recommend installing their helmeted gutter system on roofs such as mine, which has peaks & valleys. That sounds like my house is the ONLY one in the entire area with peaks & valleys! I encourage you to go on-line to Gutterman?s web site & take note of ALL the photos of ALL the houses on which they have installed their helmeted gutter system ? lots of PEAKS & VALLEYS IN THOSE PHOTOS! Just take a look! Regarding attachments: Gutterman writes that they have attached documentation! Where are they? There are NO attachments to open on Angie?s List. I am attaching documents in this response to Angie?s List; I hope that Angie is able to include them! So, that's about it, folks! You can believe me, a now 70-year-old widow, who has nothing to gain, except hoping to protect the rest of you good people out there, or you can believe THEM. I didn't know Angie was around 10 years ago; otherwise, I?d have posted my ?review? way back then. But one wonders, if I had had a 'husband' on the scene back in ?03, would Gutterman had treated me differently? But that was not the case. My husband, a Vietnam Veteran, was in a nursing home - the result of an injury that he'd sustained in the Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne, so I was alone. So, good luck to all of you out there. And I hope that you never have to endure what I had to endure with 'those Gutterman' people. If Gutterman responds to this comment, I will not respond again. They have already taken up way too much of my valuable time. Besides, I can only tell the TRUTH so many times; after that if someone continues to tell lies -- well, at that point, it?s up to you good folks to decide! My goal was to hold them accountable, & to send a warning to you folks. And to all of you good folks out there, be careful, be very, very careful, especially with Gutterman! And good luck!

Response from Gutterman Services Inc
This consumer has spent the last 9 years in a personal battle to defame our company in any way possible - taking her egregious opinion to any public forum she can find. The intent of this reply is not to again defend our good name against this accusation (we have already taken this case to court) but to allow the public to see that we made every effort to educate, advise and alert this consumer to not purchase a covered gutter product for her home – our product or any other covered product - because they would not work effectively on all areas of her house! We recommended that she purchase an open oversized 6” gutter. Regardless of our suggestion for another product, the member elected to purchase our covered gutter system- that we could not and would not put a warranty on. Since that time she has consumed herself and our company’s time for 9 years “fighting it out” rather than concede that she is accountable for her decisions. Finding ourselves in the defensive position yet again – we welcome other consumers to read on…. November 2003: The member purchased our covered gutter system AGAINST WRITTEN AND VERBAL SUGGESTION of our representative that this product would not work effectively on her home because there is great probability that the gutters will overflow in 4 problem areas. (Documentation attached). During the installation we informed her that her roofing shingles had been cut short by whomever installed her roof. We have completed no work whatsoever on her shingles / roof. April 2004: As suspected, the member called saying that she is having issues with overflow in the areas of concern. We went and installed hood cuts with screens and water diverters as an attempt to reduce the overflow – with again – no warranty! December 2005 she wanted water diverters removed. We removed and again told her that she needs open oversized 6” gutters. August 2010 (7 years after her purchase) The member pursued a case against us in the small claims court in Fairfax County. Her complaint was filed past the statute of limitations in Virginia, however we decided to defend our position. We hired council and electively elevated the case to the General District court. August 24, 2010 her case against us was barred due to the statute of limitations and the case was dismissed. We have supporting documentation from the Better Business Bureau (whom she also filed with) that her complaint was resolved. At her request, the case was also investigated by the Office of Consumer Affairs of Virginia and the case was closed. In her own documentation to the BBB, the member provides estimates from two other reputable companies to install 6” gutter (which we advised her to purchase) and new siding. Her own pictures submitted show the hood cuts with screens at the bottom of the roof valleys – showing the problem areas we warned about. Our position remains the same – we are not responsible for decision on the member's part to purchase a gutter system that would not effectively work on her home. Between 2003 and 2005 we made every effort possible – including installing hood cuts and water diverters, making repeated service calls, sending Foreman, the President of the company and so on to lessen the predicted problems as much as possible…. All at no charge for our time. We didn’t hear from her again until she started her legal crusade in 2009-2010. We are a family owned and operated company that has serviced clients for 26 years and intend to defend our reputation and good standing in the DC Metropolitan community. PLEASE REVIEW ATTACHMENTS INCLUDED IN COMPANY DOCUMENTS 1. Original documents (signed by client on 7-7-03) stating that “consumer wishes to have KGuard on the home and understands that Gutterman Services does not recommend this. She is willing to accept full responsibility for this decision on her part. 2. The experience was easy and professional from start to finish. The work was scheduled promptly. They did not try to up-sell me to buy things that I didn't need or request. After the job was coplete, the crew left a few ideas on what I should watch or perhaps consider doing at a later date. There was also a follow up call to ensure that the job was done satisfactorily and to ask if I had questions on the list of recommendations. I will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: We recently bought a house. The gutters were only a few years old, but the former owners had installed a foam barrier in all the gutters. Sticks and debris clogged everything and we needed to remove the foam barrier and have the gutters cleaned.

Estimator was prompt and professional but his price fell in the mid-range. Decided not to use this company because of the price difference.

They were very good. The price was okay, but the scheduling was terrible. Their responsiveness wasn't good. The person who I was communicating with via email left. They didn't know that I wasn't getting emailed. They showed up on time to do the work.

They were responsive in giving an estimate and answering my questions, and the work was done within 2 weeks, including providing me with photos and any follow-ups that were needed. Jorge and his team did a very good job in not only doing the work, but being available to me during the process. The works looks great.

There was a little bit of repair and then the guy left some recommendations for other things that we might want to consider. They were great and they came here pretty quickly after I called them. They seemed to know what they were doing.

I contacted them for a gutter cleaning. They looked at the property on satellite maps and quoted me a price between $90 and $145. They called two days later to notify me that their crew would be at my home that day. They cleaned the gutters, cleaned up debris. They made some verbal recommendations for gutter repair/replacement and promised an estimate by email, but It has been almost two weeks and I have not received it.

Jorge provided the estimate in a timely manner and with an explanation of all the options available. He carefully went through the color options with me to make sure it matched the house trim. The workers showed up on the scheduled day and completed the job in around 6 hours. New gutters look great. Thorough clean up, including carefully returning deck furniture to its proper location. The thorough cleanup was especially impressive because the weather was deteriorating rapidly that day and it must have been tempting to cut corners and head inside as quickly as possible.
Description of Work: This job was for a two-story single-family house with gutters on front and back (not sides). Removed and disposed of old gutters. Installed 6" gutters with downspouts. Added EZ lock gutter screens.

They called to set the day and time when they would perform the service about a week in advance. They came on the scheduled day and time. I happened to not be home when they came to the house, but I could tell they were there and had performed the work. Gutters are flowing well and they left no mess.

Excellent experience with both the estimator (Ken) and the installation crew. Everyone was on time and no pressure to make a decision once they left us w/ the quote. I took Ken's suggestions on a couple of matters that I didn't notice and we've been extremely happy that we did. Would highly recommend this company to others.
