Overall, the experience has been great. They did a nice job with the installation a few years ago. The technicians always show up on time for maintenance and do what needs to be done. I’d recommend them to others.

I have dealt with Garneski for over 20 years and have had them install new heating and air condition units in my home. I also have a yearly maintenance contract with them, that twice yearly they come out prior to the change over from heating to cooling to check out my system. This is a family owned/operated business and the quality of the service from phone call to repair is outstanding. Earlier this month I got my notice to set up my appointment to have my heating system checked. I called and I selected the date and time for the service to be done. This is important, since I have to work and if I take off time to repair work, I don't get paid. Garneski worked around my schedule. When the date and time I selected came, the service man was right on schedule and neatly dressed. He also make sure not to track in dirt into my home due to the rainy weather by covering his work shoes. He immediately started and explained my system to me and what he was checking. He was very thorough!
Description of Work: I have a maintenance contract with Garneski and they came out to check my heating system to make sure it was ready for the coming winter and cold weather.

This was the first time that I have used this company and everything turned out fine. I purchased a service packet with this company. The only minor problem was they didn’t provide me any other paperwork beside the receipt. It’s not really a big deal but some kind of documentation would have been nice. The crew was very professional and friendly. I really liked how they explained everything to me and answered all of my questions.

the experience with Garneski was very, very positive, and all the personnel that I interacted with were pleasant and professional. I contrast this with a number of other companies that I contacted--who were represented by answering services, told me they were booked up and couldn't get back, and in one case said that if I hadn't done business with me before, it wasn't likely that they could help me! I'll definitely contact Garneski for work in the future!
Description of Work: I called Garneski after contacting a number of other A/C repair companies, and they answered the phone immediate and were very pleasant in the exchange. My A/C had broken down the previous night, and the temperatures were in the high 90's. The Garneski rep. on the phone was very empathic and promised me they could get a technician to my house by 3pm that afternoon. Sure enough, at 3pm a Garneski tech. arrived at my house, diagnosed the problem quickly, had the broken repair part in his truck, and completed the entire repair job within an hour!

I was without air conditioning for several days. Not the first time I had problems with this "Sears" unit so I have been nursing the problem for the past 18 months (as Sears would not honor their warranty!). I contacted Garneski (did not want to deal with anyone that I had dealt with previously about the problem). The lady taking my call was very pleasant & understanding. She arranged for a tech to visit at one o'clock the same day. At one o'clock, James from Garneski was at the door wearing a uniform shirt identifying the company and him. He presented a very neat & clean appearance and was friendly but professional. Together we went to the basement to look at the inside unit. James listened attentively to my description of my current problem and diagnosed an electrical breaker switch was malfunctioning. He confirmed this with testing and then offered me the choice of him doing the repair it or doing it myself. I mentioned my reluctance in dealing with high voltage electricity. James explained what I needed to do...he made sure the the system was made safe for me to do the work and he told me the exact part/type I needed to get at the hardware store. Within 2 hrs of his visit my AC system was working. Great job Garneski! Great job James!
Description of Work: Diagnose a non functioning AC problem and provided correct remedial advice.

We purchased a home and clearly the previous owner only had someone take care of the A/C unit when something broke. The temperature differential was around 10 degrees and there was all kinds of dust inside the unit. The inside system was from 2007 and the outside from 2002. I contacted Garneski's to have a someone check it out. I recieved an email that night saying I'd be contacted for scheduling the next day. I got the call as promised and arranged for a service date. I was given a window of between 8am and noon. The technician arrived at exactly 8am and was done in just a couple of hours. His uniform was clean and pressed and he covered his shoes with booties. He cleaned out the dust from inside the base, cleaned out the fan outside, and recharged the unit. That work was for around $400. The rest was for the maintenance contract I didn't hesitate to sign up for. The technician was knowledgeable and quite honest. Let's face it. I know next to nothing about these things and he could have told me all kinds of things were wrong with it. While there was a discount for the work I had done, I wasn't strongarmed into signing up for the maintanance. The house is quite comfortable with the cooling temp set at 74 degrees. I recommend Garneski's very highly.

The overall experience was outstanding. It is obvious that Frank and his employees take great pride in the services they offer and are willing to work to meet the needs of the customer. They were responsive to the time constraints that I had, sensitive and respectful of our home and completely professional. An added bonus was the fact that they registered the new equipment for warranty purposes as well as the Tax credit. I apologise to Frank for next being as punctual with my report as he was with his service. Definitely will hire again and am switching the maintenance contract for my HVAC systems to them.
Description of Work: Garneski replaced an existing airconditioning unit as well as furnace for our home; this system replaces the original system and is one of two systems that heat and cool our 4500 sqft home. We found out during the semiannual maintenance that our downstairs airconditioner was shot, the compressor was bad. Due to the age of the system as well as new EPA mandates for coolant, reparing the system was out of the question. Garneski was one of three (3) companies I contacted for estimates. Their prices were in the middle but what sold me was the options they mapped out based on my budget and their willingness to explain the benefits of the different systems as well as work with the cost. Mr Garneski not only came out and did the estimate but he also came back out and performed the measurements for the new duct work. Since I was getting ready to leave on a business trip I asked for an expedited installation and Garneski fit me into their busy schedule. The installer showed up early and was later joined by another technician. Both personnel (Willie and Dalin) were extremely professional, courteous. They disconnected the old units and since the furnace was located in our finished basement went to great care to ensure that no dirt and debris was tracked through a recently recarpeted living area. Outside, the old system was first disharged and the freon captured and then the old system was taken away. A new pad was installed and levelled for the new unit, this unit was also placed on feet at the four corners to further elevate the system. Inside a new carrier thermostat was installed which makes more efficient use of the new system and does a better job of regulating the temperature. The difference between the temperature regulation in the lower part of the house with the new system and the older unit (2005) which controls the 2nd story is dramatic. Before leaving the technicians ran through the operation of the new thermostat and showed me the new drain assembly they had installed.

Needed a new air conditoner for our 2200 sq ft house w/ basement (bought as a foreclosure). House should have a 4 ton AC unit, but the house had a 2.5 ton unit which is much too small, and it made last summer a miserable experience. The location of the old unit was also a problem. It was an eyesore sitting on the concrete of our small backyard patio. Worse yet, the unit's dark, black foam-insulated coolant line had been run 8 feet from the patio, around the corner of our all-brick house into a crudely punched hole in the cellar's wall. It looked like a large blacksnake wrapped around our house. So we saved up our money for summer 2011 and found Garneski on Angies List. Called Garneski on May 31, they were fast. They responded the same day and scheduled a free estimate for Wednesday June 1. Ben, the Garneski estimator, showed up promptly on June 1, did his work, answered our questions, and offered us a range of options. THE SAME NIGHT, he emailed us a very clear estimate that detailed each option and price. Instead of just a new AC unit, we opted for a dual fuel system (heat pump & new oil furnace) because our existing oil furnace was a pretty cheap and underperforming model, and it too was making us miserable in winter. We were sold by Ben's clear explanation of the heating cost advantage of the dual fuel system's heat pump combined with a more efficient oil furnace that could take over at lower temperatures. In light of recent oil prices, and in light of advice on our local power company's website, it was a good buy. Garneski scheduled us for measuring on June 6th, and install on June 7th. That was good because Alexandria had started to experience a heat-wave and Garneski's schedule would soon fill up wth AC repairs and installs. Both days went very well. On the 6th, Garneski's estimator (forgotten his name) arrived, did a thorough job and he went over my needs in detail. On June 7th the full crew arrived (about 4 or 5 Garneski employees including the estimator). Install work ran from about 8am until nearly 6pm, with a short lunch break. The crew was courteous, careful and they did a good job. Payment for the work experienced a hiccup because of a miscommunication, but Garneski has been flexible and responsive so I have no complaints. Ms. Anita Garneski was very nice and helpful on the phone and she expertly sorted everything out. Great work Garneski!
Description of Work: Installed new dual fuel system--a heat pump (Carrier brand) and a new high-efficiency oil furnace. From our initial phonecall to finishing the install, it took just 1 week. It replaced our old undersized ac-unit and old, inefficient oil furnace. Sent a technician over for a free estimate. Sent a technician to measure our ductwork and check the wiring needs. Removed old undersized AC unit and coolant line from our back patio. Removed old under-performing cheapo oil furnace. New Heat pump installed in a better location (well-off our patio) on its own vibration-absorbing plastic (?) pad. Heat pump new coolant line was installed in a new location to keep it out of sight and to fix the eyesore that was the old coolant line (required driling a new access hole through the 8" thick brick wall of our cellar). Installed new high-efficiency oil furnace to work together with the new heat pump. This would reduce our oil heating bills in Fall and Spring. Also installed a nice back-lit programmable Carrier-brand LCD digital thermostat. Hauled away all packing material, debris and our old AC unit and furnace.

I would not try to call them again. Got good service from another provider.
Description of Work: I contacted them through their web site and asked for an appointment. Their system was set up for appointment requests but it was clear from the automated e-mail response that they might not call me. It said that if they had not called in 24 hours that the burden was on me to call them. Sure enough they did not call, as they predicted. What's the point of offering on-line appointment requests if they do not respond. It only serves to agrevate the potential customer.

We had some issues with them. We ended up having to go four days in the cold with no heat. They only had one tech who could fix it because it was a newer unit. We had to wait for him to come back from vacation. They worked it out in the end but I was not happy those four days. On one occasion the owner was supposed to give us a call. He did not so we called the office and he had already left for the day.

The worst thing that can happen during the hottest day of the summer is to have your A/C go out. Of course, this happened to me. When I bought the house, I knew I would have to replace the HVAC unit because it was the original. It broke three years ago, but was fixed. This year, it had to be replaced. I called several companies provided to me by Angie's List. Garneski's was the only one to call me back within an hour. They told me that they would have someone out there the next day. Even though this was longer than I would have liked, I understood. The guy they sent was refreshingly professional. While I've heard of servicemen just coming in, the guy they sent took the time to put on booties on his shoes and ask how I preferred to be addressed (I said Mike was fine). It took him an hour to find the leak in the A/C unit, which he told me could be replaced, but would cost half as much as replacing the entire unit, which I'd have to do in a couple of years anyway. He sat me down and explained to me my options. He told me about the tax credit, which I already knew, but also told me that some units don't qualify. He took the time to explain each unit. I told him I wasn't sure if I could spend so much money. When he told me that the prices were average, he even encouraged me to look online at other prices. And sure enough, he was right. He explained a payment plan that offered 0% interest for 6 months and even offered to reduce the price of the unit. Furthermore, since I was buying a unit, he told me he wouldn't charge me for the visit and even topped of my freon so that I would be comfortable until the unit was replaced. It took a few days for the unit to arrive and installation was smooth. While I was concerned about having four people in a small area, it was clear that they knew what they were doing. They took the old unit out and installed the new unit within a day. When they were finished, they showed me how everything worked, including flushing the unit, which was new since I never had to do that with my old unit. One always expects great service before a sale. But how about afterword? Will they stand behind their product? A couple of days later, I called Garneski back to report that the A/C was working fine but was leaking a large amount of water. They sent someone over immediately. It turned out that a pipe wasn't properly fitted. It was fixed within 30 minutes. Would I have preferred that the pipe be installed correctly the first time? Sure. But the fact that they came back and took care of the problem quickly told me that this company cares about it's customers. I've always told people it's not about being perfect, but about getting it right when you make a mistake. Garneski's epitomizes that. I have recommended them to friends and family. Angie's List users would be well-served to at least get a quote from them.

Overall he looked very professional and courtious. Check my heater and typed in his report what he exactly did. I installed my central humidifier about 2 years ago and I dont think it ever worked. He checked it and told me that the wiring was not correct but it was working okay, he charged me $50 just for that, which looked a little steep. Dont know if he really cleaned anything inside the humidifier or not, because I was not with him all the time.

Requested quotes from four companies that were on VA Engery Rebate list. One never showed up, one was three hours late and only came after I called to remind them. The third was more expensive for approximately the same equipment especially when you consider the free one year maintenance agreement and Angie list coupon. Ganeski did a great job, (although, I haven't needed either A/C or heat since the installation). They were on time , pleasant and tidy. Taught me how to use the new thermostat, suggested a different more effecient filter for my existing filtration system, and also did minor repair to the preinstalled humidifer. They were familiar with the paperwork required for both rebates and registered the equipment for me with the manufacturer for the free extended warranty.
Description of Work: Replaced air conditioner, furance and thermostat. All were working but were 17 years old and I wanted to avail myself of the VA and Federal rebates.
