John did a great repair job fixing 12 separate heads and a few damaged pipes that were broken when we had our walkway replaced and landscaping re-done. In most places the repairs were done in such a way that you couldn't even tell they had been there (other than the now-working heads) and where they did have to dig up the yard to replace pipe they did it with minimal disturbance and put everything back so it won't be noticeable in a day or two. We have been using Bio Green for our sprinkler systems and maintenance for the last 15 years across two houses and have been extremely happy with their work and will continue to use them.

John was on time, professional, happy to help and exceeded my expectations. Overall I am more than pleased. I had a couple of issues with the sprinkler heads that had developed over time and he was happy to fix them, told me what he did and then let me know the other proactive measures he had taken. Terrific.

This review is solely about the outstanding job that John did at my home today. I previously had paid for BioGreen to replace all the diaphragms in my dozen year-old system, but then the tech (not John) had problems testing due to a well pump problem. I fixed the well pump problem (new one!) and still had problems with the system, with two circuits working simultaneously, and one of those wouldn't shut off when the power was shut off. John came to the house, listened to my brief description of the problem, and had everything working in less than an hour. He even fixed an existing problem that a previous tech told me would require a "complete rewire" of my system. John knows what he is doing! If you use BioGreen, I recommend you always ask for John.

I was working in my yard yesterday when Brandon came to service my lawn. We had a great conversation and he gave me good advice on maintaining my lawn. I have had different lawn service companies over the years as well as times when I did the fertilizing, etc., myself. However, the best my lawn has looked has been since Brandon started providing super service. I get many compliments from neighbors on my lawn and attribute it to a "team" effort between BioGreen and me! Brandon is a pleasure to work with and he epitomizes super customer service! It is rare to find someone like him who is knowledgeable of his craft, has passion for his work, is very personable, and strives for excellence!

This is the 3 rd time we have had John & he is outstanding. He is knowledgeable, professional, polite & explains everything he does in detail in clear terms that anyone can understand. John also installed our control box & did the Fall system shut down all with the same great results. This is our first sprinkler system & John & everyone at & with Bio Green has been great to deal with. When we need service call, we now request John by name, he is that good. Thanks, John! There was no cost as this is part on the installation charge from last year.

Bio-Green Lawn & Sprinkler of Sterling, VA did an OUTSTANDING job in replacing a straight 15 foot section of my sprinkler system with a curved line to accommodate a new flagstone walkway. The tech. on the job also moved one sprinkler head and replaced three others at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this firm, who I have been with since 2007.

These guys are crooks. Second year of the maintenance contract they did not winterize the system properly. The outside water valve on the sprinkler system cracked and leaked. They wanted to charge me almost $300 to fix it. I had a handyman fix it for $70. This year they did not even show up for winterization. Then I received a $40 bill for "inside valve not turned off" for winterization service, even though it was. I called customer service, it took her a while to find any notes and eventually she said it was because inside valve was on and no one was home. I rescheduled and showed their service guy the inside valve, which had not been touched, and he agreed it was closed. Yet I just received another bill for the $40 past due. I'm not renewing my contract again. Avoid them.

Response from Bio Green Outdoor Services LLC
The member signed up as a client at Bio Green, Inc. in late August 2011. He paid for annual lawn service & the installation of an in-ground automatic sprinkler system. We installed the sprinkler system in September 2011 and have maintained his lawn and sprinkler system without incident since that time. Additionally, Mr had us install a drainage system in 2013. The member has had his sprinkler winterized each year for four (4) years. He knows the routine well. Each year Bio Green sends out emails & postcards outlining the procedure to turn off the water supply to the sprinkler and to confirm the appointment date which Mr has done each of the 4 years. There is a trip charge of $40.00 if the water is left on. This past winter on 10/13/14, our technician found the water still on so the winterization procedure had to be postponed. We did not leave a $40 bill at that time. We went back on 10/21/14 and water was still on. Tech left an invoice for $40.00 trip charge. We contacted Mr and found out the house was now a rental. We explained that someone needs to be home so the technician can check the inside ball valve to see if it is faulty and needed to be replaced. Technician returned 11/4/14 to do the winterization, went & checked the inside ball valve, which was faulty & completed the service per Mr’s instruction. Tech informed him that ball valve was leaking & we could not guarantee the winterization. Mr said he would find someone else to replace the valve. Since then, we have heard nothing from the member until this review came in. A week later, Mr emailed the office and claimed we fraudulently charged him $40.00 for the trip charge and dismissed our services. Stephen Schrader President Bio Green

The bottom line - huge gap between sales presentation and actual performance. Nothing ever happened as agreed to, from minor details of informing us ahead of a planned visit to more important ones such as a promise to test soil in order to best match the plan, which was one of the reasons we picked Bio Green after screening many others. The payment was charged in total, although we never agreed to it (had to call to have restored to pay per visit.) These were the reasons we dropped our previous lawn care provider after years of sloppy admin, but at least our lawn always looked good. We switched in the middle of the season, which was a mistake I should have probably anticipated having experienced the low standards of service in this market: We noticed the lawn along the sidewalk starting to show weeds, and called Bio Green as part of the service. The notes from the service man indicated the lawn looks good, but we were concerned as we never had these weeds before. They took three weeks(!) to arrive after our repeat calls, and then asserted the weed is in fact crab grass, which they did not treat as we had it treated by the previous provider at the beginning of the season. Since the plan we selected (based on the sales presentation after assessing our lawn excellent condition by the sales rep) did not cover the treatment of crab grass we had no alternative but to wait for it to die and hope for the best in the next season. We saved the main lawn by pulling it out ourselves- something they should have done as part of the service. I only bother to write all these details to demonstrate what is wrong with Bio Green's service attitude: 1. The sales rep should have clarified the coverage of such common issues at the start. 2. The service person should have identified the crab grass before it spread so much - we stopped it from spreading to other parts of the lawn by pulling it out ourselves.. 3.The response time of 3 weeks to a call is unacceptable and caused more damage. Had they come on time it would have been easy to contain. 4. The excuse that since they did not spray for crab grass (factually true as I mentioned above) is no reason to not offer a solution to prevent it even if we have to pay extra for it. This was only and quot;offeredand quot; when I called the manager to complain about the sloppy reporting and skipping of items on the list of our plan. 5 Only at the last call when I told the admin I am deducting the soil test charge from my last payment the field manager claimed he just received the results and they are on his desk (this was in October, and our service started in May!). We started with very high hopes, stressed the importance of communication with us, why we dropped the previous provider, and really tried to cooperate. It was extremely frustrating to me to realize I fell for an elegant sales pitch which had nothing behind it to distinguish it from the other low level service providers I experienced. On a side note, the mosquito spraying service wasn't satisfactory either, While they accommodated our request to spray before July 4th, the subsequent spraying scheduled varied. Specifically , during the height of the heat, where the mosquito condition was at its worst, they were late. When we called and asked them to come, the answer given was one person was on vacation and the other is scheduled to go on reserve duty. When they finally came, three weeks late, the person made sure to point out they were still within the contract. Factually, true, but with this attitude you can't expect good service.
Description of Work: 3 rounds of lawn treatment/fertilization and 4 rounds of mosquito spraying.

Response from Bio Green Outdoor Services LLC
Many times as an owner of a service business for nearly 30 years, I have responded to both customer praise and customer problems. In most instances I need to do some research to get to the truth of an issue but in this case I was directly involved with this member from the very start. The member first complained about how the annual service was charged. The members spouse made the commitment intially and told the Bio Green sales person that they would like to sign up for the year and pay in full to take advantage of the 5% discount. The member called up in a rage so intense that the usual layers of customer service...initial salesperson, lawn care manager...were bypassed and the call was given directly to me. The member made many accusations but I explained to him that it was a simple misunderstanding and we would go back and only charge for the initial service. A simple problem with a simple fix. The next complaint was when we came out to do the first service without contacting the member ahead of time. Again the member was so unrestrained in dealing with the office person that answered the call, I spoke with the member. After letting me know how shoddy and unprofessional we were to show up to do a service without prior notifacation, I was able to ask the member if either the member or his spouse requested to be called before a service? They had not. I assured the member that the account would be amended to include a call before all future services. After these two initial 'problems', the member signed up for an additional annual service program (Mosquito Control) in June. I was by this time interested to meet the member so I decided to do the initial service on the mosquito program myself. I called the night before and spoke to the member. The member asked what time I would be out to do the service. I told him it was normally difficult to give an exact time as it was hard to judge how long each service would take but in this case, he would be my first stop so it would be 8:00 AM. I parked in front the next morning and began the service by starting the fogging machine (mosquito treatment requires a rather loud backpack fogging machine). As I was spraying the left side bushes, the member came out of his house obviously upset. I turned off the machine and was roundly cursed by the member. The source of his displeasure I came to find out was that the member thought me 'an idiot' for not knocking on the door first before I began the application. I reminded him in no uncertain terms that we had spoke less then 12 hours before and he never asked for me to knock on the door. This did little to calm the member down. To address the members other complaints of Bio Greens service... Bio Green does not base our service program around the results of a soil test. Soil testing is another tool Bio Green uses to solve lawn problems. The member was told the crabgrass problem he experienced was due to the fact they were not a customer in the early spring when crabgrass preventative should have been applied. The upcoming spring we would be able to prevent the problem from occuring again. In the mean time, Bio Green could treat it for an extra charge. The member opted not to. For the timing on the annual mosquito control, I was in the room when the member called on a Thursday requesting service. The complaint was that they always had to call to get service. It was explained that they were always calling 1-2 weeks before the service was due. The member insisted on service the next day and was told he had to wait until the following Tuesday (the members technician serves in the National Guard and was on duty Friday - Monday). Still a week before the service was actually due. I am not surprised that according to the member's experience all service businesses have 'low standards in this market' as I believe it would be impossible to make this member happy. I would not normally be so definitive but the combination of the knowledge of directly dealing with this member and the anger of a service provider being the target of baseless slander has set me on edge. This is the 2nd time I've had them do major work, and both times resulted in issues. The first time, they cut the line to our invisible fence, and then it took them like 3 times to come out and fix it. If you are looking for someone to do regular turn on, turn off and head repairs, these guys are fine. I will never have them do a major repair job again.

The member has an annual service policy with Bio Green (to winterize the sprinkler system and turn it on/set it up the following Spring). The member called in early August 2013 about a broken head and that she thought there was a leak in the system. Bio Green's technician was dispatched 8/16/13 and left an estimate for repairing the leak, replacing the head and upgrading the system control box and valves (the system was extremely old and the leak was near the valves so it would be a good time to do the upgrade). The member OK'ed the estimate on 8/28/13 and the work was performed on 9/2/13. The payment for the work was recieved 9/19/13 in full. The member called 10/8/13 saying she did not believe the leak was repaired because the invoice did not specify the repair of the leak only the valve upgrade. The Bio Green representative explained that due to the location of the leak, the valve replacement did fix it (that section of pipe was replaced when installing the new valves). To insure that the system was leak free, when Bio Green was out to blow out the system (due on 10/17) it would be checked (the best way to check for leaks in a sprinkler system is to fill the system with high pressure compressed air). The winterization was completed and the system was leak free.

We got estimates from several competitors (all from Angie's list). BioGreen came in considerably lower than other, for essentially the same product and installation. The salesman was prompt, informative and responsive. The system was installed in two days (although I thought the folks in the office had said it was a one-day job). Everything worked right the first time, and they provided an owner's manual for the control box. One problem arose a few weeks later with an underground leak. Their first attempt, to fix it without digging up the yard, didn't work. When I called them back, they came out promptly on a day convenient for us and fixed the problem right away. There was some confusion about whether the warranty applied, and I was able to speak with senior management in short order to resolve the problem to my satisfaction. That's the main reason for the high grade overall - sure it would be nice to have everything perfect on the first try, but stuff happens. BioGreen's follow-through is what impressed me the most. Good product to start out with, and responsive, professional service after the sale.

Company provides lawn service all year with fertilizer treatments. Last visit by the company recommended lawn aeration for the upcoming fall due to poor soil and seeding. They also identified a Bermuda grass which was starting to creep into my bluegrass lawn which can be very damaging. Based on their assessment, I performed research on how to kill the Bermuda grass and have applied a chemical to kill the grass. Time will tell if the grass will be killed but I did order the aeration of my lawn. Appreciate the information, overall good job.

We were told the plumbing for the system would exit out of the side of our home during the quoting process. When the technicians showed-up, they were not prepared to have it exit the side of our home as they did not have enough supplies. They wanted to have it exit in the front of our home in which would be a complete eyesore, but easier for them. At any rate, one of them had to run to the store to get more piping. When they were done, we were not provided an operating manual to the system. We also found-out the covering to the piping housing box outside had been cracked. We were told they would drop a manual off and a new cover during their next visit. They arrived but did not have a manual. We ended-up calling them several times to have them fix two operating heads that were not working. We then experienced problems with water leaking out of the pipes outside. We called them back. Finally, they told us that our water was and quot;dirtyand quot; and we needed to have a filter installed at a cost of $295. If that were the case in the beginning, they could have explained this to us up front. We would have solved this problem at that time. Yesterday (Thursday), a technician arrived and installed the filter. Today (Friday), we've found-out that the pipe had busted and water is currently blowing all over the side of our yard. We are on a well system and it's not good for a pump to run continuously as it could hurt the well pump motor. At any rate, we called the company at 4:10 P.M. and were routed to a answering machine stating they closed at 4:00 P.M. We have requested an immediate call-back and service call to fix their error. We were able to find a shut-off valve in the basement for the water to the sprinkler system. However, they never told us that we had a shut-off valve specifically for the sprinkler system and believe this was for the entire house. At any rate, we were able to shut the water off and they finally called the next day (Saturday) to inform us that we'd be receiving another call on Monday to schedule a repair. They finally repaired the system. Today, 4/29/2014 they came to turn-on our sprinklers after the weatherization. The technician asked to turn on the water so I took him to the basement where he turned-it-on. 15 minutes later he rang the doorbell to tell me to turn-it-off as something broke. He told me he would repair it. However, another 15 minutes pass and he returns to tell me that he doesn't have the parts to repair the problem. This isn't the first time they have showed-up without parts. At any rate, he left and I called BioGreen. and quot;Steveand quot; told me they were not sure why it broke and it may be covered under warranty. Number one, that part was installed on 8/2/2013, less than one year ago. They weatherized it in October. Thus, it's been used for less than two months. My question is, why would they install faulty parts that may break? This person told me they would have to look a the part to determine if it was covered under warranty. 5/29/2014 we arrive home from work to see that they repaired what was broken during the process of turning our sprinklers back on from winterization (along with a bill for $75.00). After emailing them that we were not happy about being billed for their error once again, they waived the bill and claimed that the repair should have never been billed.

It was a very intricate system with all the flower beds and trees, and he did a very good job with it. He explained all changes that needed to be made, why certain heads were there, and which ones had to be changed. He even told me how high they would go. I wanted to do a project in the spring, so he made the sprinklers in that area flexible so they wouldn't need to be changed when I started that project.
Description of Work: He installed a sprinkler system on my property, about a half an acre.

The technicians were always very nice and left a hand written note at the door about what was applied and how our lawn looked. We started to notice more weeds once we went from the premium plan to the maintenance plan. Our neighbor was using a different company so we decided to try them since the price was much better. So far so good.
Description of Work: We had a contract for fertilizing and weed treatments 6 times a year. Originally we had a more expensive treatment of $150 a visit but we cut back after 2years.
