I have been frustrated for years with their lack of responsiveness. When they come to turn the system on in the spring, they don't bring any extra sprinkler heads. You know most systems will need to replace one or two heads which were damaged over the winter. However, they must schedule a return visit. They don't automatically schedule the return visit even though the tech says they will. I had to call a week or so later after not hearing from them and was put on hold, then told someone would call me back and they never did. I finally called again and was put on hold. The I was told I would have to be transferred to scheduling. When I finally got to talk to someone to get the repair scheduled, it was about 3 weeks out. I have been a customer a long time, I shouldn't have to wait 3 weeks for a repair to my sprinkler system. They need to seriously improve their customer service!
Description of Work: I have used them for years to install, repair, and maintain my sprinkler system.

Response from Bio Green Outdoor Services LLC
I agree with most of the member’s statement. We need to improve our response time in spring. Spring Turn-On time is busy for every irrigation company that is in demand. There is a limited amount of time to make everyone’s system operational for the year and at Bio Green, we do a form of ‘triage’ regarding repairs where systems that will not function get attention first while systems that work but may have trouble with a few heads or a single zone get pushed back. With regard to having parts on the truck, yes each truck starts out the day with lots of heads but as stated by the member, “most systems will need to replace one or two heads which were damaged over the winter” and with the number of turn-on’s each truck does… well, they run out. The people that work for Bio Green care about the client. Lack of fast response is not from lack of trying. It is extremely busy for April and May. The rest of the year we get clients taken care of within a few days. The member’s comments have made an impact. From now on, each spring, a service tech will be devoted every work day to keep up with problems to avoid a backlog and the resulting delays. It might take a little longer to get all the systems turned-on but at least clients in the future won’t be as distressed as the member clearly is. I offer our most sincere apologies to the member. One last comment: The member noted that Bio Green installed the sprinkler system in 2003. We did not. The Member hired Bio Green in May of 2004 to take over service of the system because they were not happy with the contractor they had install it. Bio Green serviced the system for the next 9 years. If Bio Green had installed the system 10 years ago, all of the repairs that may have been needed would have been covered by our Extended Warranty. When I turned the water on and tested the system, three of the four heads still leaked. I called and left a message to see if they could try to fix the heads again. My call was never returned. I tried a second time and that call wasn't returned either.

The member first contacted Bio Green on 1/22/2013 to Winterize his sprinkler system (the recommended time frame to winterize a sprinkler system in this area is November to try an avoid freeze damage). Bio green sent a technician the next day, 1/23/2013 to complete the blow out. The charge was $75 and the invoice paid. At that time 4 heads where found to be damaged and an estimate to replace them was given (total cost for material and labor $250). 1/29/2013, the member approved the estimate. 2/20/2013 a Bio Green technician replaced 3 rotory and 1 12" fixed spray heads. The invoice was paid 3/13/2013. The next time Bio Green heard from the member was a 6/3/2013 phone call complaining that after they had turned on the system themselves... 'heads are leaking'. From that phone call a Bio Green technician was dispatched 6/7/2013. The technician found that the bleeder to the valves was not closed completely by whom ever turned on the system. This allowed water to continue to flow at a slight rate when the system was not actively watering. The Bio Green technician closed the bleeder. Since there was no warranty issue (the heads were operating perfectly and had no problems. The leaking water was due to 'someone' turning on the system for the year who did not know what they were doing) a bill for the minium of 1 hour of labor was left. It has yet to be paid. After reviewing the detailed records on this, I am perfectly happy with the actions of all Bio Green employees involved. Steve Schrader President Bio Green

The installation was well done and on time. The salesman was helpful and explained both the products and process well. The installation comes with a one year maintenance agreement that includes fall turn-off and spring turn-on service. Both services were done to expectations. The price is fair and the components are high grade. The overall work performed was good and I plan to continue to do business with them.
Description of Work: I had an in-ground sprinkler system installed including 5 zones and ~23 heads. This includes a controller, backflow valves and rain sensor.

I like this company. They estimators are friendly and knowledgable. The work completed has been professional and neat. Everything has been done as promised. The drain installation was very neat and the root removal was great. The landscaping has made a big difference in the look of the yard. I liked the fact that they took soli samples to gauge the amount of lime that my lawn needed. Very professional.
Description of Work: I am currently using Bio Green for lawn services. They have completed some landscaping and drain pipe work in the recent past. The landscaping consisted of redefining my plant beds, cleaning the weeds and replacing the mulch. They also removed some tree roots that were spreading through the lawn. Finally, I had them install a French drain.

From the moment I called them they were both professional and courteous. I originally called to get a winterization, but after talking to them I signed up for their Annual Sprinkler Service maintenance contract. They arrived when they said they would which is absolutely amazing these days. The Technician was professional and courteous and knowledgeable. He performed the winterization and inspected all the heads and found a couple not working. Also explained how two of the head were the wrong type for the area and then asked me what I wanted to do. Fix them now or wait until the spring. I asked him if he could do them now, he went to his truck and came back with everything he needed to fix the problems. Said they would be back in the spring to re-start the system. All the work was done in under an hour.

At Bio Green we strive to achieve 'The Bio Green Standard of Excellence' on all of the sprinkler systems we service. This is particularly important on systems we did not install, our technicians are trained to make the customer aware of any problems they see as well as possible solutuions. Great system, great service. My only critique would be that they seem to give stock watering instructions and not modify them for the weather - I had to water much more than the recommended amount to keep the lawn green in this drought year. However, the system is great and their service is excellent.

Company does not seem real focused on customer satisfaction. And the system does not water the yeard evenly so we have flooding in parts and dry spots in others.
Description of Work: I had this company install my sprinkler system in the fall two years ago. They installed the system but did not check it until spring and of course there were several LARGE leaks when the system was first tested. They repaired them but made a mess of the yard in a few places. There was some confusion about exactly when my warrenty started - when they installed it or when they turned it on the first time but luckily I did not have any problems... or so I thought. First, the county contacted me last year and said I needed to have the backflow device checked annually. So I called Biogreen and they wanted to charge me ~$70 to check something that they installed. I have yet to get it checked. Then the homeowners association notified me that some of the heads were improperly installed and infringed on the easment. Biogreen said they would fix it for $125.00. We thought they should fix this at no cost since they are supposed to be the ones that know how to install sprinkler systems, but what could we do so we told them to come move the heads. We wanted them to do it while we were home so both my wife and I arranged to take the afternoon off. Then they called and said they could not do it on the day we had arranged but could come the next day - which of course neither my wife nor I could get off. They came when we were not home and left a bill for $255.00 in my door. Needless to say, I won't be doing any business with them again. I had three estimates for the sprnkler system and they were the cheapest . Guess you get what you pay for.

We finished the member's sprinkler installation December 23, 2010. Bio Green's policy for Winter installations is to not fill the system with water untill Spring to avoid any freeze damage. The Manager of sprinkler installations went out January 7, 2011 to inspect the members complaint of vibration in the pipes. He made no notes of any problems with the system at the time of the service call as the vibrations were due to air in the pipes from completion of the plumbing (a common occurance with any plumbing job)and the problem had already been solved from regular running of the household fixtures. There was no charge for the service call. Our installation foreman activated the system & showed the members how to operate it on March 18, 2011. The post installation quality checklist signed by the member had no notes made in regards to finding any problems within the system. This is the date the installation warranty began as with all Bio Green Winter installations. On June 9th, 2011 we repaired a leak in the PVC line after the member called to inform us of their concerns. There was no charge for the repair. We then winterized the system November 2, 2011 & re-activated it March 15, 2012. Both services went as planned with no mention of any repairs being needed by service tech's or complaints from the member. As far as the backflow testing of the system...the system was tested and certified when it was installed. Sometime late August or early September 2011, we received a call from the member asking to schedule an annual backflow inspection (we perform hundreds of these tests throughout the year as required by the County or Town they reside in, the cost is $55 per backflow inspection for Bio Green customers). We notified the member as to when a technician would be out, she replied that the test had been done last year & that we perform them when we activate & shut off the system. I informed her that this was incorrect & that in the jurisdiction she resided the test has to be done yearly. She replied that she would wait to hear from the County. Every juridiction (county, city, incororated town) has their own rules/codes governing plumbing and they can change from year to year. I am sorry the member feels Bio Green should be responsible for performing a annual test required by the county they live in but that is not reasonable. September 20, 2012 we moved 3 sprinkler heads per clients request due to them being contacted by their HOA for being in violation of VDOT regulations. As a part of our pre installation quality checklist, clients confirm property lines and are made aware of VDOT easements & related problems. Bio Green flags out the exact location of every head in the sprinkler system before it is installed and the member signs off on this placement with the written understanding that if heads need to be moved in the future, it will be at the members expense to try and avoid this exact problem. Our fee to move a sprinkler head up to 5 feet is $85.00. The total bill was $255 which was paid 9/26/12. The last service we performed for this member was on November 21, 2012. The system was winterized & inspected. No estimates were left & no repairs were made. Stephanie Broderick Bio Green Office Manager

Chose them to winterize/turn-on my irrigation system once. Fall turn off was okay. In spring there were two leaks where they reinstalled the backflow preventor. Called - they came out a week or so later and fixed them. They later sent a $80 bill for the repair. I didn't pay, called to say their install technician didn't install right if it was leaking. Told it wasn't their fault...so I asked for manager/owner. Was told he/she would call - never did. 2 weeks ago, they called to set up service for this fall. Said I first wanted to discuss the $80 with the owner/manager. Again told I'd get a call - never did. A week later I was billed a $35 collection fee. Two days later got a collection agency letter. Enough with them. Paid it and am now looking for a company with a bit better response.

November 10, 2011 Bio Green winterized the member's system & left an estimate to repair a leak on the left side of the house in spray zone by concrete steps. Estimate was never approved. April 04, 2012 we activated the sprinkler system. We received a call April 08, 2012 from member saying that both sides of the connection were leaking. April 09, 2012 we notified member that we would send a technician out April 20, 2012 to take a look at the system, but in the mean time to keep an eye on the device since it is common for the device to sometimes leak a little when it is first activated. This is particularly true when the device (and its seals) are old as the system wil have to run several times to allow any seals to swell. On April 20, 2012 our technician repaired a leak at the RPZ connections for $80. We received a call from the member in the beginning of June saying he doesn't feel like he should hae to pay for this repair since the device has never leaked in the 12 years he as owned the system. We explained that the seals had dry rotted and had to be replaced. In addition, we told the member that 12 years is an amazingly long service life for those connection seals and while we were sorry for the apparent coincidence of it not leaking when the backflow preventer was removed and the leaks at both sides of the connection when it was reinstalled, that this is typically when seals go bad. You seldom see a seal go bad in the middle of the year. It is when an old seal is disconnected at the end of its service life and then reconnected that you find out it is no longer viable. The member said he isn't paying for something that he thinks is our fault and was sent to collections Stephanie Broderick Office Manager Bio Green

Can't say now, work hasn't been done yet. I will update later.
Description of Work: I have been a BioGreen customer for 3 years. Last year I paid for service contract which included a summer check-up. However, when I called in the fall to tell them they never came, the response was "you were supposed to call us". This year I again signed up for the package which includes a summer check-up. The recent storm knocked out my sprinkler box, and when I called for service, I was told they couldn't come for 10 Days! For me, this is unacceptable and when I said so I was just told "this is the best we can do". Now my beautiful grass which was healthy and green is turning brown and dying. Well, next year the "best i can do" will be to find another provider that will be not only more responsive, but a bit more understanding. On another note, their lawn fertlilzer service did the wrong lawn, and when I called to report it, the man insisted that he did it, with not even the possibility that he might be wrong. Well, as that turned out, he was wrong and did apologize. Seem the company is just to big and doesn't train personnel on how to deal with customer complaints.

I requested quotes from three companies for remediating my lawn, which when I bought the house was about 95% weeds. A BioGreen representative came to my house on time and was very professional - he told me that they have three levels of lawn remediation and mine fit into #3 - total re-do. He recommended that the lawn be killed (twice) and then re-seeded to start anew. He went through the process in detail, explaining each step that would be taken and what results I could expect. He answered all of my questions and, in fact, answered numerous phone calls and e-mails from me over the following week or so with follow-up questions based on other quotes and discussions I had with other companies. I decided to go with BioGreen and could not be happier - the work was performed exactly as discussed, and even though we had an extremely wet fall, they managed to get the work done on time - and the times they had to delay work, they let me know it was going to happen and why. Overall, the kill/regrow cost about $950, including a year of seeding, weed control, etc to make sure the lawn grows in strong by this summer. For the sprinkler system, they also did a very professional job. I asked them to install it between the lawn kill and the seeding, which they gladly did. The project manager was great to deal with and explained everything to my wife during and after the install. They system works great, and they came out to winterize it after I made the appointment on-line (very convenient). I should point out that BioGreen uses PVC for their sprinklers and not the flexible piping some places use (I am in DC - we get frost and snow, but not much). They explained their reasons in detail and I did my own research to decie what I thought was best in that regard. Overall, I spent a little more with BioGreen on the sprinkler system but I felt it was worth it for the professionalism I felt I would get and the responsiveness to my questions and concerns. I got a quote for about $500 less, and the BioGreen rep offered me a 10% discount off his price that they usually give for winter work (because things are slow then). Overall, well worth the cost - especially b/c the sprinkler allowed me to keep my seeded lawn wet constantly, allowing the grass to grow well.
Description of Work: I had BioGreen kill and re-seed my lawn from scratch and also install a new sprinkler system (my property is about 0.2 acres). They "Roundup-ed" the lawn twice, then came in and tiled it and seeded the lawn, which I then watered. They perform a year of service to make sure it grows in well, including seeding, fertilizing, weed control, etc. As for the sprinkler, they came in and installed a complete system including the controls, and they also winterize and turn on the system for a small fee.

Initially we were very impressed which is why we chose them. But when they called and scheduled the appointment they didn't show up on the day of and never called us and it took a week and a half of hounding phone calls for them to finally come and do the service. They never called us in advance which we had asked them to do because we have a dog and two young children and we wanted to know in advance when they would be fertilizing the yard so we could make sure we kept the kids in the back. We are holding off on giving a review because I want to give them the benefit of the doubt if something happens in that particular case because we had asked them to come back again in the fall. I was not overly impressed the first round but will try them again in the future.

The Member is exactly right. The lawn technician did call to schedule a service visit but negelected to write it down. This is the root of the problem. Bio Green is working with the client. We hope that the quality of the results we are able to achieve will overcome the poor communication problem that started our relationship. The training of service technicians for Bio Green takes a great deal of time (over one year). The method of Bio Green's applications differ a great deal from other lawn care providers because Bio Green does not combine products together in a single application. This requires that a great many decisions be made by each of our technicians and in turn a great deal of lawn care knowledge. Even though, by necessity, the initial focus of training is on the science and mechanics of lawn care in Northern Virginia, we try to stress that communcation is equally important. Each technician is assigned an area so they become familiar with the lawns in their care but also so customers become comfortable with the technician. Hopefully that will happen in this instance

I did their service plan. They were very prompt and very efficient. They were good and I would call them again.

It is an ongoing service. Bio Green comes, they fertilize, they treat the lawn and leave behind a report of what they found. The lawn looks terrible. However, the weather has also been terrible for the lawn. So, I am not sure whether a different provider would make the lawn look better. Upon reading my report on Angie's List, they came back and fixed the problems that I had with their service.
Description of Work: Bio Green fertilizers and treats my lawn. The lawn, however, looks terrible. It is diffucult to tell whether it is due to the weather or to Bio Green's improper care. I will continue using them unti I find someone who can provide the same service at roughly the same cost.

The price was reasonable. They did well for the most part. They told me that they will be coming on Saturday, but they didn't actually make it until Tuesday. They did an excellent job. I was very impressed with their work. I would absolutely use them again in the future too and recommend them.
