The work was superb and went beyond expectations. Hamidi and I talked on the phone about what I wanted done, and arranged a time to have the desk and file cabinet picked up. He told me about how long it would take to strip it and restore the spots where the veneer had come off, and had me come to his shop to see how various sample stains would look on the actual wood. The matching on the wood grain was masterful. We agreed on the stain, and on a satin finish, which would be consistent with the post modern style of the furniture. The desk and cabinet were done 2 weeks before I expected, and I am delighted with the results. We agreed on a delivery date, and Hamidi brought it up with one of his assistants. It is now the centerpiece of my office!
Description of Work: I bought a "Big Deal" to have a large walnut desk and horizontal file cabinet my grandfather made stripped of paint and urethane, stained and restored. The furniture was picked up and delivered to my home at no charge.

Please see above. Great experience.
Description of Work: Mr. Haridi did work on a dining room table and 6 chairs and a small shelving unit. He took great care with all pieces (they're all about 70 years old) and did a great job on everything. Company is very responsive, professional, GREAT work, and more than willing to help the customer. Will definitely use this company again, highly recommended.

The repair/refinishing went well and faster than we were ready to receive it. Mr. Haridi and his son drove out to our house and picked up the furniture. My wife and I met with him in the shop to discuss stains and he helped us pick just the right color. Also repaired/refinished two chairs that were cane and replaced with fabric - just beautiful and much sturdier. Honestly it looks better than the original. Proudly displayed in our newly remodeled house. Don't be in a hurry and let Mr. Haridi do his magic and you will be very happy. Price was as he estimated and he worked with me on the coupons as I overbought (apparently Angie's List did not indicate one coupon per household). Price graded as B because I have no comparisons for this type of work. I had no issues paying the amount as the quality and attention to detail is fantastic. Consider that you would pay thousands more for current furniture (bedroom sets) from the leading retailers - this amount to restore antiques is well worth it.
Description of Work: Wife has her grandmother's bedroom furniture that is nice but was been worn through the years. Saw coupon for refinishing and great reviews and decided to stop by the shop. Mr Haridi, who when you talk to him, will exude the pride in his work and show you what he is working on, what he can do not only to refinish but more importantly, to repair the furniture. I am a detailed person and appreciate people who have mastered their craft and enjoy explaining the intricacies of their work. This man knows furniture at its core and you can tell when you talk to him he really knows what he is doing and wants to only do a top quality job.

The first repair we attempted was on an older cabinet we had purchase in Indonesia - the leg had snapped. He said he coudl not repair this. We tried to have him fix two other items, but in each case he either said he could not do it or he quoted a price that was extremely expensive for what we wanted to do. He did not really appear to want to facilitate us using the offer. So after three attempts we contacted Angie's List and said we could not use the offer. Angie's list refunded us the money!

Response from Antiques & Furniture Restoration Inc
Sorry to hear that. We try to be honest and sometimes we cannot fix certain materials. Especially when we don't feel comfortable that the work will turn out to our satisfaction. When we went to the customer's house for a free estimate, we realized that the pieces were made from artificial wood, something we do not feel comfortable working with. After our visit, we also offered to refund the coupon

I purchased a big deal offer from this company, so this is the first time I used their services. When I called to inquire about the furniture pieces I needed to have repaired, the owner happened to be traveling near my home and was willing to come pick up the two items that same day. One of the items was a 40-50 year old piecrust table with fairly intricate carving on the legs. The claw feet on the table had been dinged/chipped over the years and the table surface finish was damaged. He worked with me at his shop to select the right color for restaining the table after it had been stripped, and explained the process. When the work was completed, he delivered the table and chair to my home. The table repair was excellent - it looks better than it did originally. He also gave me additional information about maintaining the new finish. My understanding is that he had someone else work on the chair as it contains leather upholstery that was not part of his services, but I am also very pleased with the final result for that piece. I would use this company again. I rated the price a little lower that the service as it seemed expensive to me even with the big deal discount, but I have not had this type of service performed before, so have little basis for comparison.

They did a great job. I emailed a picture of the couch and got an estimate back right away. They picked it up when they said they would and returned it when they said they would. The workmanship was excellent. Everything matched and lined up perfectly. There was a lot of attention to detail. I couldn't be more pleased and will use them the next chance I get.

My library table was in horrible shape. I knew it was solid wood (Haridi confirmed it was birch) but I had painted over it in absolutely awful colors and it was truly ugly. Was on the verge of donating to SA, but loved the table's "bones". Sent a picture in via email, Haridi responded with a quote. I dropped it off and was shocked it was the same piece when I picked it up. It is absolutely beautiful. I couldn't be more pleased. Haridi is a true artisan, not on ly did he get every bit of the old ugly colors off, but was able to stain it the exact color I wanted. Haridi is very pleasant and professional to do business with. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

Mr. Haridi and his son picked up my broken 1930s curio cabinet that had belonged to my mother. They returned it a few weeks later in beautiful shape. I am grateful for the work they did to fix the problems it had ... it is usable once again, looks nice. Appreciated the good service.

Mr. Haridi is a wonderful artisan and a pleasure to do business with. He provided an estimate by email based on my pictures, arranged for the table to be picked up and had the repaired table delivered back to my home. He also sent photos as the work progressed. I was hesitant to spend the money on the repair because the table was only worth about $600, but it had been in the family many years so I felt an obligation to have it repaired. However, when I saw the restoration, I was glad I spent the money to have the job done properly. The broken wood is not even noticeable. Also, his son, who made the delivery, and I believe the pickup, was very conscientious and charming.

I am so pleased. They saved a beloved carved wingback chair in the first instance and now have shown how well they handle the different challenges of modern materials and forms. My living room is transformed thanks to their work.
Description of Work: I had reviewed this company when I first used its services - but I am so pleased with the results of an entirely different type of restoration and upholstery challenge that I wanted to write again. Mr. Haridi took two battered, ragged but originally high-end 1950s chairs and restored the bentwood teak frame and trim beautifully, bringing out the natural golden sheen. His upholsterer took my complicated print fabric (sea shells and coral) and did a superb job - everything was perfectly aligned within each chair, including the removable back and seat pillows, and each chair had the exact pattern alignment, so placed side by side, they are now truly a matching pair.

Yasser Haradi has the skill and talent of a master craftsman from Europe. I brought him an antique French tailors's table that I had inherited from my parents. The top had been severely damaged from a plant draining onto it. Large pieces of the burl veneer were missing. I live in Alabama, but the piece was in Virginia; after reading the reviews on Angie's List I felt this was the person I should get to do the work. I emailed him pictures from my home in Alabama and spoke to him about the work that needed to be done. He gave me an estimate and I agreeded to bring him the piece the next time I was in Virginia. My husband and I delivered the piece to his shop in Sterling, Va. a few months later. He seemed to be genuinely excited to see the table and commented on its quality and workmanship. He explained the steps he would go through to make the repairs, and mentioned some other condition issues that he would fix at no additional cost. He explained that he would need help in choosing the correct stain once the veneer was repaired. This is where his exceptional service reached across the miles. He emailed me pictures of the repair, and then called my sister, who lives in Virginia, to come out and help pick a stain. He was very receptiive to her suggestions and finished the job in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Yasser for any repair job you might have. In fact, two additional family pieces have made their way to his shop and are in the process of being restored by this most gifted man.

Repair job was really well done. Time will tell how much better this was than the last time I got them repaired. The chairs are old and we use them as kitchen chairs so they get used every day. Antiques told me that they would last for years because they would do it the right way. So far, so good. They are holding up well. My only comment is that i felt like they were a bit expensive but know that quality antique restoration in the greater DC area comes at a price.

The overall experience was good. I used a coupon that I had which reduced the price I paid a little bit. My desk had a broken drawer and some of the filigree work was missing. It also had some chips and scratches on it. It needed extensive repair. I sent pictures of the desk to the contractor and he gave me an estimate over the phone. I agreed to the estimate and asked if the desk could be picked up from my house. He had it picked up. After he finished the repairs, he asked me to come out to his shop to see the finished repairs and to select a color/stain for the desk. I did this. He delivered the finished desk to me. The estimates of cost and time that he gave me were met. He was courteous, knowledgeable, respectful and easy to work with. The desk looks great.

Mr Haridi repaired one antique oak chair where a piece of a bentwood brace had broken. He disassembled the chair and repaired the broken piece and reassembled the chair. As with many antique objects, wood shrinks, warps, and bows over time and this chair was no different, but rather than try to force the parts together, he was able to adjust the repair to minimize any gaps caused by changes in the wood since the object was made. He did a marvelous job.We also brought him a tall library chair that needed new upholstery. We brought it to him because we were looking for someone who understood and respected antique furniture and knew the techniques used in the past and could use appropriate modern materials to reflect the historic significance of the pieces. He did a fantastic job on this chair, now featured on the Facebook page for Antiques and Furniture Restoration, Inc. He helped us select the fabric and where we could go to get a broader selection. We searched different places on the Internet and at stores which carry upholstery fabrics so we could select the right color, texture, and feel of the fabrics. He performed the work with remarkable quality and the work was completed ahead of schedule. My grandfather, who was a German carpenter, craftsman, cabinetmaker, and furniture maker, taught me to refinish antique furniture and taught me about woods, grains, and finishes. I like to refinish antique furniture as a hobby and I apply the techniques and appreciation he taught me, so my standards are very high. Mr Haridi holds those same traditions and respect for furniture that I do. He imports all his restoration supplies, including finish strippers, finishes, even his spray guns, from Germany. There may be people who will do the work cheaper, but they will not be able to provide anywhere near the quality maintained by Mr Haridi and his staff of professionals.

We had a family heirloom club chair that we were looking to have restored (refinish the wood, re-upholster, repair frame, stuffing. cushions). We dropped off the chair at the shop. They were prompt with an estimate of the work and provided a detailed run down of all the tasks that needed to be performed. Once they had the chair stripped down, they contacted us to decide on the wood stain and fabric. They were very accomodating in terms of fabric - we could buy our own or work with them to pick it out. We decided to go pick out our own selection. Although we brought it directly back to the shop, they have arrangements with many of the local fabric shops to deliver. They delivered the finished chair to our house (which was pretty convenient). It took several months but I don't think that was much of an issue for us - we weren't in a big hurry. Overall, we are very pleased - the piece looks great, the work is very high quality, and the customer service was outstanding. They were very responsive to questions, easy to work with, professional and friendly.

Haridi was a pleasure to deal with. He and his crew (including his very impressive teen-age son) were punctual, professional, and timely. He took time to show us how different stains would look and explain in detail what was involved in the work. Because we were doing some remodeling at the same time, we asked them to keep the furniture much longer than it took them to do the job, and they were very accommodating, including re-covering the chairs very quickly after our belated selection of the fabric. Pick-up and delivery went smoothly, which is not always easy given that we live in an older apartment building in the city with a fairly small freight elevator, narrow hallways, and limited loading space.
Description of Work: AFR stripped and refinished a dining room set consisting of a table with 2 leaves, a glass front hutch, a buffet, and 6 chairs, as well as a tea cart that was not part of the set. The work included, making needed repairs to the large pieces; re-gluing and re-covering the chairs; and making fairly extensive repairs, including replacing some veneer, to the tea cart. The work was beautifully done.

Everything done well. Note that cost quoted is actual outlay, including $50 paid for an Angie's List Big Deal valued at $150 that cost me $50. Without the deal, the cost would have been $275, which would have been prohibitively high, given the value of the table.

I took an art-deco chair to Antiques and Furniture Restoration Inc. because it had been scratched in the past move, a scratch that had taken the finish off a wide, but not deep, swath of the front of the chair's back. I believed that the scratch itself could be repaired, but that was not the case, so the entire piece was refinished. I was shown how the process would, and did, unfold to refinish the chair and return it to its former state. The work was completed in a timely fashion, and the chair looks great! I will use this facility in the future for restoration of the some of the other many antiques that I inherited from my mother.

..Mr. Haridi was at all times extremely professional. His detailed knowledge of his trade was evident by his ability to date the piece, based upon the wood and technique used to craft the piece. I was absolutely thrilled with the finished product; and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I inherited a desk from my grandmother's estate. It is mahagoney wood, approx. 4 ft oval, on a pedestal. At one time it had a draw in it, but I never got that. Mr. Haridi dated the desk as pre 1930's, by the wood and construction. It was deeply marred on the surface. His company cleaned, stripped, sanded down and refinished the desk beautifully. He even constructed a perfectly fitting drawer for the desk, and searched out the appropriate wood that would allow it to mold perfectly with the edge of the desk.I was then contacted to come to his shop to choose the stain for the finish.

Haridi (the owner) responded almost immediately to my online quote request, and I scheduled pickup two days later. Haridi and his helper arrived, broke down the large dining room table, and loaded all of the furniture into their truck. Two and a half weeks later they had all of the furniture broken down, hand stripped and hand sanded and I visited their shop to choose a stain and upholstery fabric. We evaluated several choices and chose a light oak stain to bring out the grain even more than the factory oil finish had. Two weeks later the refinishing and re-upholstery work was complete and the pieces were delivered. The process has restored all of the pieces to a condition better than their original factory finish, greatly enhancing the look of the wood grain, and with all of the glue joints tight and stable once again. Haridi was pleasant, courteous and patient throughout the process, and I am extremely happy with the work and the results.

I have a Danish modern surfboard table which my grandmother purchased in the 1950s in Denmark. She left a potted plant on it that leaked water onto the table, causing the teak veneer to lift and the particleboard substrate to swell and become lumpy. I brought this table to Antiques and Furniture Restoration. The owner informed me that doing a perfect repair on this table was nearly impossible since he felt that replacing the entire veneered tabletop would destroy the beauty of the original piece, and would cause the table to no longer match the accompanying end tables, nesting tables, and chairs. Thus he attempted to inject glue into the damaged particleboard and clamp the veneer, then refinish. The result is certainly much better looking than what I had before, but it the damage is still noticeable. Nevertheless, I rate my experience with Antiques and Furniture Restoration very high. Every step was explained in careful detail, and extra time was taken to show me the selected stain to try to match the restoration as closely as possible with the other pieces in this set. The work was completed earlier than promised, and cost was as promised before the work began.
