Academy Sealers

For the money (it's not expensive) it was fine. A year later, cracks are back (although this could be because of things in the soil underneath the driveway; hard to tell). Only complaint is that the transition from my driveway to the street wasn't really touched, and there's a lot of loose gravel there. I expected (perhaps wrongly) that the treatment would have extended across that area. I'd still use them again for year-to-year maintenance, but at some point might need to upgrade to a more full-service vendors.

The driveway sealing and filling done by Academy Sealers went very very well. The work was speedy, professional, thorough, and to high standards. It is detailed above. We appreciate their hard work. We would definitely hire them again. As an afterward, when we had trouble with the first sealing due not according to any problem with Academy Sealer's work, but because of six inches of high intensity rain immediately after the sealant was placed, Academy sealers came back and re-did the work (even though the rain was not their fault), at no additional cost. The second treatment was also excellent and dried without problems due to a rain-free 24 hours. We are delighted with the final product, with the service we received, and with Academy Sealer's care and customer service. Thank you Academy Sealers!

The first time they sealed the driveway, they did a very poor job of sealing and did not appear to fill in the cracks. I called them back, and they were willing to come back and do it again which they did,and they did it in a timely fashion but I am not satisfied with the results and will need to find another company who can do the work to my level of expectations..

Went perfectly. Scheduling was easy, crew arrived on time and did exactly as promised. Sealing has held up fine.

They did a great job on our driveway. They were very careful and neat. Since we were not at home, they left an invoice, so that we ould pay later--which doesn't happen often. This is the second time we have used them. We will continue to use them.

Horrible!!! They dropped and threw the debris from the gutters along the house, into the yard, onto bushes, onto a concrete patio, onto a deck rug, under a small deck with a gravel floor; onto the heat pump and hose box; into garden areas; clumps and piles of debris were everywhere. Most of it was onto thousands of dollars worth of new landscaping and mulching; some of the debris was at least 12 feet from the house. My landscapers will need 1/2 day to repair at my expense. A new $250 deck carpet has black stains all over it; I don't know how I'm going to clean it if I can. It will be a huge job. They did not reconnect a downspout, nor did they clean it out; it was full of debris that I had to clean out before reattaching. The gravel floor under a small deck is covered with pine needles, almost impossible to clean up. A 10x10 concrete patio was totally covered in deep debris that filled two 39 gallon yard bags. It took me 2 hours of careful raking just to get some of the debris off the bushes, new plants, grass (way out from the house), and some of the new mulch to try and allay some damage before the landscapers can come for big repair. I filled four 39 gallon yard bags total and wasn't able to get it all. I called them to express my dismay and instead of listening and offering a solution, they argued with me and got rude. They never apologized or took any responsibility. I asked them to drive over and take a look; he laughed and finally offered to send someone to look at it on their next "gutter day", June 5, a week from today. That was not satisfactory for me - why would I leave such a mess for a week when they didn't offer to clean it up, just look at it? I told them I wasn't paying the $109. They said I had to because, "We cleaned your gutters, didn't we? That's what you wanted done." Nope, I'm not paying, nor am I ever using them again to seal my driveway. They finally agreed not to charge me. As I was asking him (one of the managers, I don't know his name) to take my name out of their computer, he hung up on me. I took many pictures and have emailed some of the pictures to them. I am following up with a copy of their bill, indicating they said I didn't owe them, and I put in writing much of what I've put in this communication. I estimate my cleanup time and labor, fixing the downspout, the ruined new deck rug, and landscaping repair will cost me at least $650.

The job was completed quickly and efficiently.

Impressive work for such an inexpensive job. The sealing came right to the edge of the asphalt, but they didn't get it on the sidewalk or the garage. They also did a cold patch of a sunken area. I didn't blend as well, but they warned me it wouldn't.

Happy with service provided

They sent a crew of three guys and they spent about 15 minutes doing the job. They got the gutters cleared, but in doing so they made a bit of a mess of the fascia behind the gutters. When they blew out the leaves they also forced out a lot of dirty water that left stains on the fascia. Despite several days of rain since then, the stains persist.

Very well. Cleaned surface. Applied top coat. Sealed drive.

Academy Sealers showed up on time as promised in Warrenton VA. Did an excellant job. Great value for the price. Provided a good thick coat of sealant. Did a very nice job of keeping the sealant on the driveway and not getting it on the concrete sidewalk or grass. very impressed. thank you. I will be calling Academy again

A. They were quick to respond to get someone out to quote the job. B. They were quick to attempt the job C. They were poor in actually doing the job; details of poor workmanship below: -- Failed to patch any cracks -- The coating looked like a cheap coat of flat black paint, not a "heavy coating of...." -- They failed to even cover all the asphalt surfaces (including the edges -- They didn't even complete the coating out to the end of the driveway at the road NOTE: I cleaned and edged along all asphalt edges very thoroughly to make sure their job would be easier. When I called them to let them know that what was done did not meet what they're "Custom Quote" stated, they said they (a supervisor) would come out to inspect. They did come out to inspect and said ... "we put on a heavy coating and think it's okay". Bottom line to would-be customers of Academy Sealers ... T ry someone else that will actually do what they say they'll do; this was a rush job that was poor at best and not worth the cost! Signed, Dissatisfied Customer

I really wish I had read the reviews before using this company. I'm appalled at their service. They were kind during my first phone call with them, and they were quick/prompt/efficient to get the job done. However, they claim they will fill any cracks that are not spider cracks and/or bigger than 1/4". I went around the driveway and took pictures of all the cracks that look terrible post-sealing, and when I called to share my dissatisfaction, I was told that they clearly explain they do not fill the cracks I shared with them. I just think they do a sub-par job and it's definitely not worth paying them to "paint" my driveway in 15 minutes for $100. I was also just annoyed with the manager, Nils, when I called to share my frustrations. The job wasn't done well - they painted over grass, leaves, and yet didn't fill the cracks that I believe fall within their narrow description of what they will fill. Nils claims they aren't trying to "pull one over on" me, but I think the crappy service should be fixed. Also, a month later, it's definitely peeling in several spots. What a rip off, never using them again.

Been using this company to seal our driveway for over 6 years now and the product they apply and customer service has gone down the driveway. Last year they applied the sealer and within weeks the small cracks/fissures began to resurface but I did not say a thing as I knew they would not do anything about it. My neighbors told me to use Collegiate Sealers based on their experience but I kept my loyalty out of foolishness and tried Academy again this year. I first emailed them for this years quote and asked the manage to schedule me in. He said they come to Vienna on Mondays so I told him to do it the following Monday. Guess what, now show so I emailed him again and he was like I you didn't confirm (I have the email) so I asked him to send his crew the following Monday in which they showed up bright and early. I had a few small cracks on the driveway from last harsh cold winter. I specifically told the hispanic guys to spot treat the cracks as I was leaving for work but they obviously they could care less as they want to spread the thin sealer that they use as fast as they can and bolt to the tune of $110. I had a bad feeling before I left as the guy could not speak english. When I got back home from work, I immediately saw the cracks and some irregular spreading of the product as it left dark and light marks on the pavement. So I called right then and sent them photos of the cracks and the manager replies via email and says that their product will not cover cracks less than a quarter. Why wouldn't the sealer cover such small cracks if is had enough density or why would I seal a driveway if the cracks won't be filled? Next time I'll use Collegiate and see what they are all about as my neighbors driveway was paved at the same time as mine and looks a heck of a lot better now a days. As a money manager, my thinking is that this outfit is saving cost with inferior product and lack of guarantee and I guarantee you that they will be out of business in the future with this kind of service. Good riddence.

On time, sealing was perfect

In less than a year all of the sealant has all come off of the driveway. It started about 2 weeks after installation and all of it eventually flaked off. Unfortunately it would come off on shoes and then you would track bits of 'tar' in the house and ruined the kitchen floor. The only thing that would remove it was 'Goof-off' or turpentine. The sealant was installed in the rain, literally it was raining when they laid it on and they smoothed it over puddles. I am not sure if this is why it did not stick. I responded to their request for feedback telling them it did not adhere but I never heard back from them.

I received a flyer from them in the mail and saw that they were listed on Angie's List. I called them on a weekend and within an hour got a call back to schedule the work. The only condition was that they wanted to be paid on the day of service and the caller suggested I leave a check under the front door mat. The homeowner was not required to be present. Well the day came and I was afraid they wouldn't come through because it had been raining off and on on that day but there were spells of dry weather as well. I came home to see that the work had indeed been completed and the driveway cordoned off. The whole appearance of the worksite was clean and the work itself was done well. I think they came through in every respect and I would recommend them highly.

Academy sent two guys over yesterday to seal our driveway. Last night, my husband and I went out to check out the work. We saw bits of black sealant on the brick facade of our house, dripped sealant on the cement apron, and sealant on a decorative rock that I keep next to the driveway. They also did not fill ANY of the cracks, regardless of the size of the crack. Lastly, they placed my hose holder directly on a garden plant to move it out of the way, flattening it and breaking a branch off a shrub (they could have just set it to the side of our walkway). Needless to say, we were very disappointed. Sloppy and careless work. I called to let them know. They asked for photos, so I took a bunch of photos and sent them an email. I get an email response back from a manager. He replies with a rebuttal to each of our complaints, defending his company and his guys. Here is a quote from him in response to my complaint about sealant on our brick and cement: "We do apply our sealer by hand, which allows us to be very precise. Our foreman have been working with us since inception of the company and are very vigilant. There is an extremely minute amount of sealer on the areas you have listed." He then says they will send someone out to power wash. This is what got me: "there is an extremely minute amount of sealer..." This is akin to painting a wall in your home, getting that paint on the trim and saying, ?It?s just a little paint.? ANY amount of sealer on your house is too much!! ANY amount is unacceptable. I was upset by the fact that he minimized the sloppy work and defended his guys, rather than just taking responsibility and saying they'll fix it. So I called him because I lost all confidence that he took my complaints seriously and was really going to rectify things. He could tell I was upset but rather than try to diffuse the situation, he said I was angry (yes I was!) and that I couldn't be satisfied. Not true. I could have been satisfied in less than 30 seconds with some words like, ?I?m sorry. I see your point. Don?t worry ? we will make it right.? That?s all it would have taken. Instead he chose to argue with me, interrupt me continuously, and talked over me. He was incredibly rude, arrogant, and unprofessional. UPDATE: The owner came out to look at the work. He began going down the same road as the manager, minimizing everything and saying it was acceptable the way it was. I learned this: Apparently my expectations were too high. He said it?s reasonable, normal, and customary for some sealer to get on your home façade (in my case, brick). Who knew? Also he told me that none of the cracks in my driveway qualified to be filled. They were either too big, too shallow, or too thin to fill. He suggested I get a new driveway. In his defense he told me they would put another coat of sealer on and he apologized for the unprofessional behavior. That apology went a LONG way towards making me feel better.

I received a postcard with the estimate and called to make an appointment. After I provided my address, they were able to connect it to the customized estimate. Efficient! They came the next day and did a great job. My driveway looks really nice. Academy Sealers did a great job and they made it easy for me!
