Our experience with Valor Mold has ben truly exceptional. We initially hired another company to remediate our second bedroom and they left the room in worse condition than before they arrived. They used harsh chemicals, opened our windows and ran an air scrubber, blowing mold particles around our room and coating all of our belongings. Here's the thing - the mold remediation industry is highly unregulated and as a result we ended up with a room that was making us sicker by the day - until we called Valor Mold. Valor Mold is the real deal. The level of expertise and understanding that Valor's ENTIRE team (from the owner David, to the inspector Teddy, to the technician Ronnel, to the office manager Lois) was unbelievable. Each member of the team was incredibly patient and answered every single question we had about the process, how mold works, and how to fix it. They were available day and night for calls, responded to emails promptly, and they showed us that they are the best in the business. There were so many moving parts to our job and coordinating with Lois was not only easy, but she gave us the comfort and confidence that not only was our job important to them, but that they were on top of it. Valor gave us a crash course in mold and remediation and showed us just how our home ended up getting botched by the other contractor, and most importantly, how they could fix it. When Ronnel's team came in to do our remediation, they were courteous and showed a level of respect for our home that was unmatched. What really impressed us most, was at one point the team noticed an issue where there might be more mold hidden in our attic. Rather than just ignoring it and finishing the project, they stopped immediately, called the owner, David, and had him come out to take a look. Fortunately it was not an issue, but that just goes to show how much Valor cares about their customers. Valor corrected the underlying mold issues that were in our second bedroom, as well as fixing the problems that were caused by our first chemical remediator. Even though our job was smaller than others that Valor undertakes, to keep our project on deadline, the owner personally came out and completed the final stages of remediation and cleaning himself. It doesn't get any better than that. We can say without hesitation that Valor Mold is the BEST mold remediator in the DMV by far. If you are on the fence about who to hire, take our word for it - hire Valor.

I was incredibly pleased with my experience with this company. My phone call was returned promptly by Alix, who was helpful and polite, listened to my concerns and was able to schedule an appointment within three days for a home visit by David Myrick, a co-owner of the company. Alix explained in advance what cost I should expect to incur for a full equipment test for mold and written report and how much time would probably be required. As it turned out, David called me and offered to come out even sooner if that was convenient for me, which I greatly appreciated. Although he brought the testing equipment with him, after a careful visual inspection of my basement (the problem area) and asking me some questions, he determined that a full test might not be advisable or give accurate results at that point (since I had recently vacuumed and had windows open) and that in any event, the full testing procedure might be overkill in this particular situation because the extent of the problem I have didn't appear to warrant a need for that process, which costs close to $500. I appreciated his honesty about that. He provided very clear explanations, showed me where he saw mold and taught me how to look for it myself; suggested a very practical priority list of steps to take and items I might want to buy to start my cleanup process if I wanted to do it myself; told me about tools I can use to monitor and record humidity levels in various rooms of the house to prevent this from happening again. He also explained how mold affects various kinds of surfaces and materials to assist me in deciding what to discard versus what I might be able to clean and keep, as well as information about how to clean different kinds of surfaces and how to about the cleaning process safely and in a way that would keep mold spores from spreading to other areas. I really appreciated all the time he spent educating me and answering all my questions and the very practical information and suggestions for dealing with my issues without exorbitant expense. I have to admit to some wariness about dealing with mold contractors, but I felt that David and Valor Mold Removal were trying to provide good and honest service in an industry that can sometimes be less than reputable. I will definitely call on them again if I feel that I need additional assistance.

We hired Valor Mold to do some mold testing because we had a undetected water leak in our kitchen. Scheduling an appointment was super easy with Alix and Lori sent us a very informative email detailing the process so I knew what to expect before the testing began. David performed the testing with the Instascope machine and he was great! Unlike other companies I had talked to who were trying to scare me, David was very calm and walked me through the results. The Instascope machine was also really impressive since the results came instantly and we could see the differences in the mold level between the outside air and the different rooms in the house. Mold is already a really scary problem to have so I'm glad that Valor Mold was so informative and calm and friendly!

Dave arrived and explained to us the equipment he was using to test and how he would proceed. He was very knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for his work showed. He tested each room and explained different things with the system. It took about two hours in total to complete the tests. He did find some mold, but let us know that we didn't need to remediate this immediately, unless we were going to get work done in those areas. He took a sample of some mold he found on the carpet tack strip and got us back the results the next day. My wife and I were impressed with the whole process and we would use Dave and Valor Mold again without hesitation.

Phenomenal!!! They were recommended by several colleagues from the professional trades and I know why --- THEY ARE THE BEST! No hard sell, no scare tactics, only the truth and explanations that start with common sense English and delve as deep into the details as you want to go. Kept calling with polite and professional updates as to arrival details and then took time for professional assessment that left the others in the dust. Got issues? CALL THEM and don't look back!

We were extremely happy with the work Valor did for us. The mold remediation was a bit and disruptive process, but Valor helped us make it as easy as possible. They were helpful in identifying the problem and going over what could be done to fix it as well as being very clear up front about how the scope of the project could increase once drywall was removed and the mold situation in the ceiling could be seen more clearly. They did excellent work and were professional and flexible about getting the work done. David, the company's owner, is also extremely helpful in explaining how mold problems can develop. I should also note that this company does not use chemical treatments that have health concerns and may allow mold to grow back but instead remove moldy drywall (or carpet etc) and sand and/or soda blast the mold out of wood and concrete. The second project (the roof) was harder to manage because it had to be coordinated with a roofer because we replaced the moldy roof decking along with the remediation in the attic. Valor again was extremely professional and helped us find a roofer (who was also excellent!) with the necessary experience to work seamlessly with the mold remediation team. The mold remediation is a big, intimidating, and expensive job, but Valor made it a lot easier than it could have been.

David, the owner, put us at ease from the moment we met him for an estimate. He helped us navigate what needed to be done to successfully remove mold from our basement bedroom due to water leaks from our gutter. His crew's thorough job ended up finding a much larger mold problem in our basement bathroom we were unaware of. We've unfortunately had other mold related issues in our home that we called Valor to handle and each time we were pleased with the work. The crews were professional and I always felt comfortable leaving them at my home while I ran errands. Both David and his lead techs were easily accessible by phone or text throughout the entire process. One thing Valor doesn't do is mold testing, which makes sense, you don't want your remediation team testing their own work.

We reached out to Valor Mold on the recommendation of a mold and air quality inspector. Scheduling a free inspection of our basement was easy. David came out to the house for an inspection. He was professional, personable, thorough and above all candid. I appreciated his honesty and pragmatism above all else. It became clear he was not interested in just being a "salesman." He answered all of my questions patiently and in detail. In the end we talked through all of the available options and the risks and benefits of each. Based on our conversation he provided us with two quotes: a moderate remediation for the most pressing issue, and a full remediation. Even after the inspection, David was quick to reply to our follow-up questions by email. We are looking forward to having the work completed in the next several weeks.

I have used Valor Mold in two homes for mold testing because my son has asthma and a mold allergy. Both experiences were good. The owner/technician's mom answers the phone and books appointments, and she's just great. Sweet and easy to talk to, she gives you a lot of education around the subject and their methods. The owner/technician was on-time for both appointments, very polite and professional. Elevated mold levels were found in the basement of the first property I had tested, which I did not remediate because it was a rental. We simply kept our kids out of the area. Levels were good in the second property we tested, which was a home we purchased.

They were very knowledgeable and professional; the mold had formed from cold air from A/C vent leaking into the wall and then condensing. We thought we would have to have the entire wall torn apart but when they started to tear it out, they discovered the mold had stopped halfway up the wall. They could have torn out the entire wall (and charged us for it) and we would have never known. But they were honest & showed me where the mold stopped, so they only had to tear out half the wall. We asked David to come out to provide an estimate for a problem in a different area a month later and he said we could hire them to remove/remediate the mold, but he recommended we hire a company to fix the underlying problem first, and then gave me a few recommendations for companies that do that type of work. Again, they could have taken our money, but were honest in recommending a different approach.

After two weeks they were able to gut my whole basement, and remove all signs of mold in the house. The basement sells fresh, and we are happy about that. I will definitely use them in the future again.
Description of Work: I bought my house in April of 2017. Little did I know the seller (flipped property) covered the whole basement in heavy white paint to hide a serious mold issue that started from a busted pipe on the second level. Unfortunately for me, Virginia is a state that protects the seller are the Home has been bought. After doing some research I found an honest company named Valor Mold. The owner came to my home, took measurements, and educated me about mold the process they will take to remove it. He left everything in my hands, did not push for me to get it done. My whole basement, walls, ceilings and floors had to be done. Many areas had black mold. Most companies will clean mold, but this does not remove it since it’s embedded into the wood. Soda blasting is the only true way to remove mold, though it is pricey you want it done right the first time.

During the last several years, I have often heard that mold in the home could cause very serious health problems. However, because mold is not easily noticeable to the average person, I did not think I had a mold problem and didn’t pay much attention to my basement apartment. In addition, I had no idea how to approach the mold issue. I didn’t know the details about how mold could directly impact my health and the health of my family. I also didn’t know how to determine if there was mold in my home and if so, how to remove it. Luckily, I was able to find a trustworthy specialist on this subject, mold specialist Dr. Charlie Wilkes. In October 2017, I requested Dr. Charlie Wilkes of Wilkes Technologies, Inc, to investigate the mold condition of my house in Northwest, Washington DC. Dr. Wilkes’ thorough investigation, which included scientific lab testing, found that the basement of my home had microbial growth (mold) due to water intrusion a few years ago. He recommended a remediation plan to clean up and return the basement to normal fungal ecology. After contacting several mold cleaning companies in the Washington DC area, I asked David Myrick, president of Valor Mold Removal Inc., to come to my home and inspect the mold condition of the basement. The following week, David came to my home and explained to me in detail the four phases of a Valor mold remediation project: 1. Containment; 2. Negative air pressure; 3. Demolition; and 4. Deep cleaning. The next day, David sent me a brief email describing how Valor conducts its work, including the cost and possible days of operation. After agreeing to move forward, I received a detailed operations contract to sign. David also sent me a copy of his license to conduct mold cleaning in DC. Valor began work the first week of January and completed the work three days later. Five days after that, Charlie’s company came to inspect the work and found that there was an area that needed re-cleaning. A day later, Valor came back to re-clean that area. The most impressive points of Valor Mold Cleaning Inc. are as follows: 1.Valor closely followed the scope of work that was outlined in the contract. 2. Valor completed the work by the promised date. 3. Valor suggested I hire a Post Remediation Verification(PRV) testing company to ensure that the remediation efforts were successful. When the PRV found an area that was not sufficiently mold-free, Valor re-cleaned that area immediately at no additional cost. 4. The Valor staff, especially Lois Myrick, was very professional, efficient and friendly and I felt very comfortable and secure in asking as many questions as I wanted and requesting small changes. Although the total cost seemed somewhat expensive, it was worth it because you can’t put a dollar value on the safety and health of your family. I would definitely rather have quality work done than pay less and have poor quality work done. I hear quite often that remediation customers have been scammed by "mold specialists." It is very important to find a good and honest contractor who will conduct a thorough cleaning and an independent specialist that can verify the work. I would highly recommend Valor if you are thinking about or need to remove mold. I'll be out of country until July, 2018, but would be happy to answer any questions upon my return.

Our situation was critical: a family member with asthma and a severe mold allergy. We absolutely needed the best service. Unfortunately, it’s buyer beware with mold services in Virginia, which has nearly ZERO regulation of these businesses — it’s basically a “self-regulating” industry. *eye roll* But Valor gets *every worker* independently certified. This is huge because a “company certification” doesn’t mean all workers have been certified. One service we interviewed uses uncertified day-workers for some mold jobs! Valor’s also a specialist. All other mold services fall into the “restoration” category — fire, flood, smoke, mold, and more. So, the workers at your house might’ve only done a couple mold jobs. Valor *only* does mold remediation, nothing else. They don't do inspections and testing nor rebuilding, since those services would be a conflict of interest. (How could you trust their test if it generates business for them? How could you trust them to not over-remove materials or over-state the mold problem if they're also doing the rebuild?) Our first contact was office manager Lois — friendly, professional, answered every question. If she didn’t know, instead of making up an answer as some people do, she got back to me. The owner, David, did the assessment. This was when I first saw why Valor is far above its competition — he’s a mold geek! He’s the kid in science class who thought everything was amazing. It’s like he has a PhD in mold. Despite being a free visit, he was at our place for 75 minutes — checking everything, explaining exactly how they’d do the work, and answering every question. He’s 100% passionate about his work, which is why Valor is excellent. Note: Valor isn’t cheap. But great service isn’t cheap. So when another company quotes you half what Valor does (as we experienced), ask how and where they cut corners. Valor will probably be the highest quote, but it’s money well spent. Also note: Valor’s fee is basically all-inclusive. Other services will low-bid, then hit you with extras or keep discovering more problems. Valor quoted 1.5 days for our job, but needed three full days, and yet the price stayed the same. This is a big deal with something that can be 90% hidden like mold. Workers Kristyn and Joey arrived on time, prepared, professional, and friendly. Like Lois and David, they asked if we had questions. Despite our grilling (our last reassurance before our kitchen would be torn up), they were neither annoyed with us nor hesitant they’d do it right. And they were totally impressive. They meticulously covered every square inch of the kitchen in thick plastic, double-taping the edges. A high-powered fan unit sucked the air through a flex-duct and out the window. Their containment area was like a scientific lab using the best materials (which I knew from my research). This may seem like overkill, but a quarter-million mold spores fit on a dime and are invisible in the air. Any gap can spread them around your house during the work. (Look on Valor’s website for photos of their containment versus a competitor’s.) Wearing hazmat suits from head to toe, they checked inch by inch to see how far the mold had spread. Bad material was pulled, double-bagged in thick contractor sacks, and gooseneck-tied shut — taken via a pathway to the nearest exit. A highly sticky mat removed mold spores from their soles. Each time, they had to remove their hazmat suit inside containment, pass through a special zipper door, take out bags, then go back in and put the suit back on. Eventually they reached a clean margin while preserving as much as safely possible to minimize re-build costs. It was three long days, but they never rushed, took extended breaks, or seem frustrated. They regularly updated us, asked if we had questions, and reassured us. They took dozens of photos to document and show us progress (since we couldn’t go into the containment). Finally, they HEPA-vacuumed and alcohol-wiped every square inch of the kitchen to remove any remaining mold spores and mycotoxins. We couldn’t find a speck of dust after the containment was taken down. If you've ever used a service that operates at the highest level, you know what I mean about Valor. You feel completely at ease and fully trusting. And the results speak for themselves — our family member never had another problem, even with all the windows closed for the cold weather. (Before, we needed the windows open 24/7.) From our experience, we can honestly say Valor is the gold standard in mold remediation.

They were very professional and flexible. They found more mold then was anticipated. They had to remove all of the contents of the 3rd floor as well as drywall. They found mold under my AC so that delayed their ability to finish remediation. After HVAC people removed the AC and flex duct, etc., they soda blasted the entire area. They then cleaned the whole area and containment by HEPA vacuuming and washing the walls. The independent air testing passed them and they removed their equipment. All of them were very patient with me re: questions, etc. I would use them again

It went very well. I had a well crafted built in cabinet and Donnie carefully removed the cabinet with little to no damage. The job was performed to my highest expectations. The technicians arrived as scheduled and worked diligently to complete the work. After removing the drywall and insulation and conducting the remediation (inside the well-sealed-off laundry room) they left a powerful blower to vent contaminated air outside the home. They then returned to retrieve the equipment and remove the sealing materials.
Description of Work: Unbeknownst to me, I had a leak behind the wall of my washing machine which resulted in mold formation. I researched firms and found excellent reviews for Valor Mold and lots of helpful information on their website. I emailed a photo of the mold problem to the company and got a rapid response. David Myrick arranged to inspect the problem and during his visit he gave me a time and dollar estimate. He also explained the process very thoroughly, including honest descriptions of the noise involved etc. He really tries to give a thorough explanation so that there is no miscommunication or misunderstandings. He also explained the value of the method used by Valor Mold and the issues with other methods, including the precautions taken to ensure the safety of the homeowner. All of this matched with the research I had conducted at consumer and government information websites. I valued his honesty and integrity. David was prompt, professional, very knowledgeable and personable. It is clear that as a family-owned and run company, he strives to deliver a good product and achieve customer satisfaction.
