Description of Work: We were waiting to move back into our house after living overseas, and the house had been vacant in a very hot, humid summer. We live in a wooded area near the Potomac, and were immediately struck by musty smells and I had itchy skin walking around. I dreaded that we had a mold problem. David came over promptly and did a meter check of moisture and inspected for mold damage. He was very reassuring and to my surprise suggested a large dehumidifier to handle the problem. Sure enough - the house is in terrific shape now. Our one concern is that the machine is very large and noisy (located in a wet basement), and we may have done better by having a system ducted into our HVAC to reach the entire house, rather than a stand-alone. We'll see how things go into the spring and decide if we need to make any changes. That all said, we really enjoyed working with Valor. Good folks!

Description of Work: We had mold mildew problem in our basement. David gave us a thorough evaluation and described the remediation process. His crew set up a containment system that ventilaed the basement area and reduced the chance of spreading spores throughout the res of the house. They removed effected drywall and used HEPA vacuums and sanding to clean all surfaces. David was very professional, returned calls quickly and was helpful during this process. I would definitely recommend David and Valor Mold Removal.

Description of Work: They said they were available to take the job and never sent out a written quote (which was promised 5 days after initial in person home investigation). This did not include a separate quote for rebuilding which would have delayed the project start another week. There availability was not for a month out knowing small children with Health concerns was an issue. Too small of a business to take on families that really need help with mold removal FAST. Left further voicemails and a follow up email with no further response.

Response from Valor Mold Removal
Thank for leaving such candid feedback. However, after researching your concerns I found that your feedback had some significant omissions. While we did come out to do your estimate, before a written estimate was created we contacted you to let you know that, after careful consideration, we would not work with you. However, in that same response we did inform you of various other companies of high repute that you might consider instead. While it is rare that we won't take on a project, the reasons why we wouldn't do so were stated in our email to you on the 24th. We are a smaller company, but we are the top of our field, take pride in our work, and care about our clients. You know why we wouldn't work with you and it's unfortunate that you would leave such a review knowing the truth of the situation. I do hope you find someone that is willing to take on your situation and give you the help you require.

Valor cleaning was professional, did perfect work, and gave us a price that I was very happy with. I really appreciated that David took the time to educate me on how mold prevention and air flow works. He pulled together links to several articles and put a lot of effort into analyzing our particular situation. What's more, he did all of this even when it looked like I probably would handle the situation myself rather than using Valor. (It was at that point that I knew wanted to write a review for them even if I didn't end up using them.) Eventually, I decided that I did want a professional to do the work. Valor not only did everything in their proposal, but they also did a good bit of extra work to head off future issues and never asked for additional money for the extra work. On the back office side, you can tell you are dealing with a well-run organization. Lois, David's mother, makes sure that everything comes together as per what they commit and in a punctual manner. There was a night-and-day difference between Valor and the competitors with whom I spoke. Valor was there to help me solve a problem, while the other guys were just looking to turn a buck. Kudos to this extremely well-run family organization. They are one of the best organizations I have ever dealt with for anything, large or small. I highly recommend them.

Ultimately, I ended up doing the work myself since I was originally doing a full demo and was intending on ripping out everything down to the cement. I purchased the necessary equipment, mold remediation chemicals, respiration device, build a vapor barrier and created the airflow vacuum to the outdoors. Had I been trying to save any of the mold infested materials that were installed I would have definitely hired Valor Cleaning.
Description of Work: I began to demo some old water-damaged paneling in my basement. I noticed mold growing on the back side of the paneling and on the R-13 insulation between the paneling and the cement block wall. I called several well rated (Angie's List) mold remediation companies to get estimates. Valor Cleaning was, by far, the most responsive and helpful company that I contacted. Their estimate was priced similar to the other vendors that I contacted. I could tell that Valor was a smaller, family business and that they really cared about how they handled each and every client (or potential client, in my case).

Valor is one of the firms I would put on top of the ladder in terms of professionalizm, commitment to highest ethical standards and consumer care. This is a boutique company which makes it unique and gives a personal touch to any interaction with them. I had a horrifying experience with Envirocair, which caused damages to my property and my health. My well being was affected for several months. I was almost desperate, and called Valor Cleaning. Lois gave me superior advice explaining the mold remediation process, the standards, what to do in my paticular situation, and made me feel confident and trust in positive resolution of my issue. Lois provided me with contact of a mold testers who also gave me many good recommendations regarding my situation. David, Valor's mold remediation and water damage liquidation supervisor was super nice and responsive, he demonstrated deep knowledge of the industry standards, best practices, walked through the process Valor follows, and provided superior expert advice in regards to the deplorable job done by Envirocair and liquidation of its significant implications. If you need to do a water restoration/ mold remediation job, please, contact Valor Cleaning - this is the company where you will be assured that your health and safety come first and the mold hazard will be fully eliminated from your property.

First of all, I would like to apologize for taking a long time to give you a well deserved review. Valor Cleaning is a family business company. This is the first contractor that I had a great experience in dealing with a big project at my house. When the first time I spoke to Lois (business manager), she was very polite & assured me that her company will do the remediation very well. On the day scheduled for an estimate, David (project supervisor) gave me a call 30-45 minutes in advance to let me know what time he will arrive. David was very professional; he took time to examine the areas & answered any questions that I had. Several days after the estimate, I received a detail estimate report which list the areas to be cleaned & the total cost. This was great so that I knew exactly which areas will be cleaned. On the first day of the project, David was the supervisor on the project & worked with the other 2 crews. They worked hard until around 8 PM on Friday. Nobody was at home when David & crews were scheduled to work so I left my house key to my neighbor. I had no problem leaving them to do the work without no one at home. Before they left, David explained that they found mold growth more than he thought during the estimate so more drywall had to come out. The estimated cost wasn't increased due to the fact that they had to remove more drywall; this is proven that Valor Cleaning cared deeply on doing the work right to reach the highest level of customer' satisfaction. Also, David discovered & showed me an electrical spiced behind drywall that wasn't up to standard building code (by the way, the house was built in 1954). I'm so glad that I chose the right company to do the remediation & thanked David for letting me know with important issue that he discovered & providing advice on how to fix it. Otherwise I would never knew & my house could have burned down. The night after remediation was completed, air scrubbers & containment barriers were placed in the areas being cleaned. A few days before I was going to do the laundry, I realized the containment barrier was blocking access to laundry room. Then I notified David & Lois by email. The next morning, I got a reply email from Lois saying that she was going to send someone to remove the containment barrier that would give me access to laundry room. This is proven that Valor Cleaning is really care about their customers by responding to customers' concerns as soon as possible. David also discovered a pipe leaking from main level bathroom to the basement floor that had to be fixed first. The leaking affected the wood that had to be sanded & the floor that had to be vacuumed. I was glad that David understood my frustration in dealing with the plumbing issue in addition to the mold. He told me not to rush in finding the plumber to fix it because If I called plumber on weekend, I would incur extra charge. It took me over a week in finding the right plumber & trying to adjust my work schedule with the plumber to come. David was very cooperative & understand the timing issue that I had to deal with. A few days after the remediation completed, David provided a detailed report which explained pictures of drywall pieces that were taken during remediation. He had to put together some of the drywall pieces so that I can see the extent of the mold behind the drywall & cabinet. I'm highly satisfied with the report that he provided as I knew it must took him lot of hours & hard work in creating a very detail report. We also have an issue with wet basement which we still don't know what causing it. David also took extra effort to research some waterproofing companies who might be able to help us with this issue. In conclusion: I can't say thank you enough to Lois, David & his crews for all their hard work in delivering the best work for my home. I hope I don't have mold issues in the future but I will have no doubt to hire them again & highly recommend them to other people who needs their service.

Found them through Angie's List while looking for a mold remediation company. Scheduled and received a free estimate. Did not (fortunately) require their services.
Description of Work: Lois and David were very helpful in explaining their services and prompt in scheduling an appointment/ walk through/ estimate. Both were very friendly and took time to explain their Company structure and scope of services. Our overall project direction took a turn and we were fortunate enough to not require mold remediation, however Lois put me in touch with several very reputable mold testing agents, for this I am thankful.

This is a family business, and I felt very comfortable that they were honest, skilled and knowledgeable. The mom (Lois) spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone, sending me several pieces of information I requested including the names of mold testers. Extremely helpful. The son (David) spent an hour at my house going through to ascertain if we had a mold problem - including spending 15 minutes crawling around in the crawl space (a nasty space) in a mold protection suit, something that the other two contractors who came for estimates only glanced at from the entrance to the crawl space. The company seems to have several certifications, take their job seriously, and seemed very concerened about our health as well as making sure that we weren't paying for any services we didn't need.

Because they had performed an extensive mold remediation a few years before in other areas of the basement, they squeezed my job in right away, as it was part of a home-sale contingency to get it done. Both Lois and David Myrick responded promptly and professionally. The job took several hours. You wouldn't know anyone had been in that room afterwards except for the pristine ceiling that was the result. David takes pictures before, during, and after the procedure. He also seals off the area completely to prevent any other area of the basement being affected by the procedure. Valor is prompt, professional, courteous, experienced, and clean. I would use them again.
Description of Work: There was mold on the exposed wood ceiling in my laundry room. Valor inspected it and had the report of a previous esimator's test. While it was not a "dangerous" but rather a common type of mold, it needed to be removed.

David came to give an estimate of our basement walls; he took photos of the area and emailed a detailed estimate with advice about possible areas in the closet also containminated. David was patient and answered all my questions. The family business has a professional attitude and the estimate was correct. No hidden costs. The day of cleaning went as planned. They were able to do the work on a Saturday to help us with our schedule. We had obtained other estimates for the job and they were in the middle range. Very pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Removal of drywall and plywood affected by mold in the basement; used plastic barrier in the room to contain mold spores; air filter remained for several days to clean the air.

We came back from a vacation to find a damp carpet in a ground level room. Investigation revealed that an ice maker installed by the people we had bought the house from less than a year before had been slowly leaking for a while, and we were infested with mold; indeed we had mushrooms growing inside the house. Not a pleasant sight to come home to. The mold inspector mentioned three companies that he believed did good work, though he knew least about Valor. We interviewed representatives from all three and were favorably impressed with two of them. (When I first saw David, I was not prepared tobe impressed because he was so young, but the more he said about how he worked and what he would do the more impressed I became.) We choose Valor primarily for two reasons. One was price; mold remediation is expensive, but Valor charged less than the other company we were considering. The second was that they were the only company that would also rebuild after the remediation, and we didn't want to go through the hassle and possible delay of finding another contractor to put things back in order. In the end, we were quite pleased, not just with the quality of the work but with all the workers. They were pleasant and helpful. Lois, David's mother, who seems to run the business end of things is about as nice a business representative as one encounters over the phone, and pleasantness runs in the family. David who did the remediation and his father Donny who did the rebuilding (and whom we have since called on for other projects) are easy to talk to and nice to have around. Another plus is promptness; they come when promised, which is too often not true of small family run or individual home service enterprises. Third is the quality of their work; not only is the mold gone, but one could never tell from looking at our room that a portion had to be rebuilt. Finally, they are completely trustworthy. We had no compunctions about letting them in the house when we were gone, and they also provide a year's guarantee for their work which we know we could count on if any mold remained. I don't wish mold on anyone, but if you have a problem you must deal with it, In dealing with it, I don't think you will do better than Valor. R. Lempert
Description of Work: The procedures used, including sectioning off parts of the house, replacing or remediating dry wall, drying after remediation, etc. were similar to what the two prior reviewers have said so I will not repeat these descriptions, but will just saw a few words below about the non-technical parts of our experience.

Finding black mold in your house is scarey. Luckily, we located an excellent environmental testing engineer with extensive experience with mold. He tested the mold and also identified the water problem. Then he recommended that we call Valor Cleaning to remove the mold. He said that there are many companies that do this work, but few that do it well. He felt Valor was one of the best. We contacted Valor and a day or two later Dave came to give us an estimate. He discussed the problem, outlined how he would remediate it, and gave us an estimate. He was very professional and very reassuring as he answered all our questions. He knew we were very anxious and he assured us that he would take care of our problem. We got a second estimate from another company that we found in the phone book. The second estimate was a bit cheaper, but the estimator seemed less knowledgable and less professional than Dave. Dave told us that he would also be doing the work. So we contracted with Valor Cleaning. Dave and another technician showed up promptly as scheduled and went right to work. They did everything they said they would, and we felt very comfortable with them. Lois, in Valor's main office, was also very knowledgable and professional. The mold is gone, we haven't had any more (knock on wood), and we have since recommended this company to friends. Valor is an exceptional company!
Description of Work: Valor provided mold remediation in a basement-level stairwell and a basement level closet. The mold was caused by water coming in from faulty waterproofing where our exterior wall met our condo's courtyard. Our Valor technician was Dave, Basically, Dave and an assistant set up a containment barrier/airlock/decompression chamber in the stairwell and under-stair closet. Using protective clothing, they removed about 2,500 square feet of walls and ceiling along with insulation. They bagged them up and disposed of them properly. Then they cleaned out the remaining mold, sanded exposed wood, vacuumed it up with a HEPA vacuum and applied anti-microbial treatment. Finally they left behind a negative air fan with HEPA filter (I think that's what it's called) for 24 hours to capture any mold spores. Dave came back the next day and removed the fan and the containment barrier. It was really tough work, and Dave has a great work ethic.

They were very good. It is a family owned business and they were excellent. They showed up on time, they were professional, did a great job and cleaned up after themselves. David, the son, was on time and he was very professional. His mother acts as the business manager and she was great too. If there was any change in the plan she always called. They communicate well both via phone and email. The project required taking down the dry wall and my HVAC unit had to be removed. They recommended Michael’s. I had to work separately with Michael's because I decided since the HVAC unit had to be removed anyway, I might as well replace it since it was old. But the insurance of course would not pay for the new unit so I had to pay that separately. Valor removed the dry wall down and discarded that appropriately. It needed to be scrubbed. They had these machines that sucked in the air and cleaned it of the mold and they arranged for another company to come and have all the duct work cleaned. They made all the arrangements for that. They put up new dry wall, painted it and put it back the way it was as if nothing happened. The father (Donny) did the repair work and the painting. He put in new dry wall and painted it -- matching the new paint with my old paint on the walls that weren't removed. David did the molding remediation. They recommended an industrial hygienist to perform pre air quality test and the post air quality test. The industrial hygienist pre-tests tested positive for various hazardous molds. After the remediation was complete the post tests came back clear. I was really happy with them. I paid them $5000 ish. They did all of that except that I paid Michael separately for the HVAC unit itself. Insurance wouldn't pay for a new unit, they were just paying for the remove/replace and cleaning the ducts works because of the mold. Valor received approx $5000 and I paid Michael's separately for the unit itself. I would absolutely use them in the future and I have recommended them to others.
Description of Work: I had Valor Cleaning Inc do the mold remediation.
