It turned out great. Jimmy came out and he bent over back wards to help me. He ended up having to replace a very small part on the heat pump. He had to drive all the way to Herndon to get the part. He did that and came back the same day to get it working for me. They had such a reasonable price. It has been almost 2 years and the heat pump has worked flawlessly since then. I recently called them to come out to do a routine maintenance check, I can not recommend Shanahan's any higher! A previous company had given us an estimate of over $2,000 to replace the heat pump, but Shanahan's repaired it for less than $200.00.

The company is fantastic, and the owner comes to your house. Their prices beat the other estimates that I got too. Top notch work.

Kirk is very professional and personable - as are the office staff. The workers did all that was needed. They made sure the dog didn't run out the door. They cleaned up after themselves. The equipment works perfectly (tho we haven't tried the air conditioner since the installation was the day before the first big storm in February). Totally satisfied with the experience with Shanahan's.

Reviewed Angies List and called SHANAHAN'S HEATING & COOLING INC. To my surprise, they were available for same day service, even though it was during a high demand period when it was extremely cold for several days/nights in a row! Met the repairman that afternoon and he had cleaned the entire furnace (the filter was already new). He was very friendly and professional. He definitely DID NOT want to rip me off like I know some other people would in a heartbeat. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company. I wouldn't have known about this company if it wasn't for Angies List. Thank you very much!

I called Shanahan Heating and Cooling Sunday morning after I turned off my leaking water heater Saturday evening. During the course of the night I went downstairs to check the water heater and noticed a faint smell of gas. Originally thought it might have been the gas pilot to the water heater. I call Washington Gas and they discovered 4 leaks with a major one leading to the furnace. They turned off the gas and told me to call a plumber who works specifically with gas leaks. After calling 2 plumbers with no return phone call - I called Shanahan's. Kirk Shanahan called me back immediately and promised to have someone out in 2 hours. Larry appeared and saved the day. He repaired the gas leaks, turned on gas, determined my 3-year old water heater needed to be replaced, and cleaned my furnace - all within an hours time! Great service!

We called Shanahan's Monday morning due to our heat pump breaking over the weekend. I fully expected we would have to wait all day for a technician to come and spend more time in fleece and wool socks! We were pleasantly surprised when they could send a technician that morning. Allen arrived about an hour after calling (wow!) and was very professional. He listened to my description of the symptoms which included the fan no longer working and the refrigerant lines being very hot and very cold. I was expecting the worst but his thorough diagnosis pointed to a bad circuit board. Since this part would have to be ordered and take a few days and the fan was working fine, he configured the heat pump to bypass the board so we could operate the heat manually (very thoughtful). I returned Shanahan's phone message Thursday morning regarding the part being in. Allen was able to come right over after 9AM and install the part leaving before 10AM. The work area was clean and all covers replaced. I was very impressed with Allen's thoroughness and efficiency. Shanahan's was very easy to contact by phone and I really liked their responsiveness. The price was right and I paid when all the work was complete. They are awesome...I will definately be calling them with more work!

He came and took care of it very promptly. He did not take anything like emergency charge or anything. They gave us advice over the phone how to take care of it until they came out. They came and gave a permanent fix for it.

They provided a good system at a much better price than their competitors. We called 3 or 4, they had the best price. They also had a good follow up. It was a Trane system.

They are outstanding. I give them A+ for everything. They are very modest and on time. They are very well priced and easy to deal with. They go a step beyond what the consumer would expect. They see some small item that is not necessarily included in installation and they do it free of charge, because they see the need. They are very service oriented. I have recommended them to others since the service.

In terms of response, they were prompt and set up an appointment for a service representative immediately. He did a very through review on all three systems and discovered one of the heat pump motors had gone out so he replaced it. We have a UV light system and the light was burnt out in one of the systems as well. A month past so I had to call to inquire about the light. At this time, I asked again about a maintenance contract. The representative on the phone was evasive and was reluctant in answering my question. When the service representative was here he explained he did not make the decision, but believed he didn't believe they could provided a service contract due to the overflow pans being installed incorrectly. When questioned as to whether the overflow pans have anything to do with the functioning of the system, he responded no. I then asked how this was relevant to a maintenance contract and he had no real answer. When a month passed, I called again about the light and maintenance contract and they immediately came out to replace the light, but still hedged, without giving an definitive answer about the contract. I never received a call from the person who does make this decision about the service contract so I finally gave up. I believe the reason was due to the age of the system and not the pans, I just no understand why they just didn't tell me this.

Once again Shanahan's comes through in a pinch! We came home Friday late-afternoon from our vacation only to find the house at 46 degrees! They were able to get their "on-call" Technician out to the house that same evening who diagnosed the problem as a cracked ignighter and fixed the problem w/in 30 minutes.

We had Shanahan bid on the replacement of our furnace and ac unit. My wife loved working with Jimmy who came out to bid the job. Their price was the lowest that we received. Days later Kirk Shanahan called us to tell us that they could do better on the price. He reduced it by several hundred dollars. Kirk told us that it would take a day to do the install. We scheduled them to come out yesterday and they completed the install in 3.5 hours! Everything seems to be working fine so far. I am overjoyed about such an inexpensive, painless process.

They were pretty good. They were responsive and courteous. They gave good information. There rates seemed reasonable. There is nothing to complain about with there quality of work.

I don't have anything to compare their price to because we've only used them, but for an annual contract I think it's reasonable. They are always good and seem to know what they are doing. We have had no problems and are happy with them. We will continue to use them in the future.

He showed up on a weekend very quickly. He got the work done very quickly and did not charge me a lot for the work. It was a good experience with them.

The A/C went out on a 95 degree day. They were working overtime with similar problems and could not get to our home the day we called, but neither could any other A/C company. We had three estimates from three companies. Shanahan's was by far the lowest price for the exact same equipment. The technician helped weigh the options. We ended up replacing the furnace at the same time because of its age (although it was working OK), because doing so extended the warranty on both the furnace and the A/C system and improved the efficiency of the entire heating and A/C system. Shanahan's never pressured us to replace the furnace, but it made sense to do so since it was 14 years old and the improved efficiency and extended warranty appealed to me. The installers did a very neat and quick job of removing the old equipment and installing the new. They have happily and quickly responded since the installation to check two perceived problems with adjustments. It was very nice to find folks who still believe in reliable work. One other contractor quoted me for the A/C only a price VERY close to the price of both A/C AND furnace. Over $2,000 more for the exact same Trane A/C! (I will be writing up a report on that company also!)

We were very pleased with the work that they did. They gave us a competitive quote and were fairly priced. The work was done in a timely manner. Our experience with them was smooth and went very well.

We are very pleased with the workmanship and professionalism of Shanahan's professional staff. They arrive on time, do a neat job, and clean up well when they are finished.

A crew of five worked efficiently and methodically over two days, arriving promptly at 8 AM. They removed the old air handler and all the duct work from the 1700 sq. ft. attic of the 40-year old ranch-style house. The new system consisted of a Trane air handler, an insulated metal trunk line and nine flexible ducts to the existing room diffusers in the ceiling. A new drain line from the condensate pan was added because the system was moved closer to the attic access for easier servicing. A new 240 V/20 amp circuit was installed from the breaker box in the basement to power the air handler. A Trane SEER 13 compressor was installed on a new pad where the old unit had been placed and a new disconnect box was installed. The old thermostat was replaced with a Honeywell digital unit. The old system was hauled away. I had several bids, but was impressed most by Shanahan's capability to handle the extras this job required. The electrical upgrade and getting the new air handler into the attic from the narrow pop-access in the garage, which required taking the unit apart and reassembling it in the attic. Also, they offered the best price and a two-year warranty on labor in addition to the equipment warranty offered by Trane.

I called them in November 2007 after my furnace started making an alarming amount of noise. I had a maintenance agreement for the furnace with another company, but they said it would be nearly three weeks before they could send out a technician for a service call. I decided to call other companies and everyone had wait times of a week or more for a service call. When I spoke to Lynn at Shanahans, she was incredibly understanding and kind and set an emergency appointment for me for just a few days later. Jimmy came out for a service call and determined that the furnace was beyond repair and gave me a very competitive price to replace it as well as my very old and energy inefficient humidifier, A/C unit and hot water heater. The crew arrived on time and completed the work promptly and very neatly. They were even kind enough to remove an ancient water tank that had been taking up space in my basement. Kirk Shanahan stayed at the end to show me how everything worked and how to maintain the various systems. I was quite impressed with this company and very highly recommend them!

Installation crew showed up on time, on the planned installation date with three or four people, and had the job done in a couple of hours, including installation of a new electronic thermostat, disassembly, and removal of the old, oversized air handler through the small attic access. Installation of a new heat pump pad and electrical breaker box. Resulting installation works perfectly, using about 50% less energy than the old unit. The installation was the best part of the job. Getting an estimate and getting an installation appointment took a couple of weeks, largely because my old unit failed on the first hot day of summer and all the contractors were swamped. However, some other contractors were more prompt in returning calls than Shanahan's office. We selected Shanahan's based on their prior "double checkmarks" for price and quality in the Washington Checkbook survey and a very competitive quote for an upper-mid level heat pump system. It was a great decision.

The worker that came was very knowledgeable. He did a good job checking and oiling what needed to be. He was very kind and easy to work with as well. I always appreciate a person who can come and knows their business well.

He arrived on time to do the work. I would use them in the future. The quality of their work was good so I would recommend them. They were professional while they worked.
