I cannot express the satisfaction I experienced in dealing with Service Works. From the time first time I talked to Eric, the estimate, and throughout the installation Service Works maintained the highest level of professionalism. The system I was quoted by Service Works was a top of the line Carrier system and the bid came in significantly lower than two other local HVAC companies that offered far inferior systems at a much higher price. All I can really say is the price was great and the service was timely, professional, and friendly. If your looking to replace a residential heating and cooling system I would highly recommend you contact this company to at least get an estimate.

They charged me $200 for their services. They were good and knew what they were doing. They were okay and did a good job. The price was what they had estimated. They told me over the phone as to what it cost. It was a minor repair and not rocket science. It wasn’t big or complicated. They were reliable. When it comes to responsiveness, they came pretty quickly.
Description of Work: Service Works LLC Heating/AC/Plumbing/Maintenance did some repair work for us about two weeks ago. The condenser on our air conditioner had stocked up and they cleared the drainage line for that. They fixed the water problem. There was a problem with the water condensation. So, they cleared the line where it drains into the sink.

They were fabulous. They came on time and the person that came gave me some hints about what to do. I had called other plumbers and they were not able to find the leak, but this guy told me that he could either replace the bathtub or do something he told me and stop the leak. I rate him high overall, and I will definitely use them in the future.

It was actually a service call for him to come and look up at the plumbing situation and do some assessment. So he did hydrant my kitchen sink and he said that it should be greased very often I didn’t know that. The other faucet he said that they were made by manufacturer where you need to have flush, so he said I didn’t have to worry about it. The agreement was that I was going to get a new faucet and when I get that I need to give them a call. In the meantime I had some other plumbing work and he did that too. I thought that their price was compatible. The guy who was here was very nice, very pleasant and I think that the only thing he did was to grease the sink. The guy seemed like he knew what he was doing. He did call me that he would be late so I appreciated that.

When he started with the valve work, he discovered that shut-off valve from the street was broken, and it wouldn't shut off. The experience was okay. It wasn't bad, and it wasn't great, it was mid-line. I was not expecting that I have to pay so much, and it was not his fault. He did the work and everything is fine. He cleaned up very nicely, and no one would know he had been in my house that has to be positive. The price was average. I did it through the big deal, and they contacted me right away.

The worker that was sent to do the job was actually more skilled in HVAC, but he did a good job with my simple toilet replacement. He ran into a problem with a defective drainage flange, and called his boss to get instructions on how to work around this problem. We had another problem that arose in that the flange bolts that came with the new toilet did not have scoring so that they could be broken if they need to be shortened. I had to go to Lowes and pick up the correct bolts.I was there the entire time, and was able to oversee his work. He did an excellent job of working with the situations that arose. I know that I got an excellent price for the work done and will consider this company for any future plumbing and HVAC work that I need to have done. The Deal only cost $100, but I gave the guy a $20 tip for doing so well.
Description of Work: I used an Angie's list Best Deal and was able to have my new toilet installed, and the old toilet taken away.

I felt he was there to sell me other services. He was not helping me to crack down what the problem was. I felt that he primarily came to sell me something else. It was not worth what the services I paid for. Maybe for that price you could have just expected to know what could have been done. They came when they said they would come. I wouldn’t use them in the future.

I called Service Works after the HVAC on our recently purchased rambler stopped working. There was a coupon for $29.99 on Angie's list for a service call so I decided to give it a try. The technician checked the HVAC and gave me a quote of the work needed to be done. He told me it looked like the HVAC hadn't been serviced in a long time, if ever. Good news was I didn't need to get a new system like I feared. He cleaned the system, replaced the filter, put new fuses, added anti-freeze, and made sure everything was in working order before he left. A week later, I got a call from RIch Herald letting me know about a glitch which prompted a duplicate debit on my account. I was on the phone at the time he called, but he kept calling until I picked up the phone, I was very impressed about his honesty and the lengths he went to fix the problem. He personally notified my bank as soon as he found out about the duplicate debit. He could've just called the bank and I would've never known about the problem. But he called me right after he contacted the bank. The HVAC is working without a problem and duplicate transaction was resolved right away.

I scheduled this work with Service Works because I had purchased an Angie's List deal for a $29.99 plumbing service call. The company was very prompt in trying to schedule the work. I did not know what the "service call" deal would include, but I needed plumbing work performed. The "service call" covered only the travel to my house, normally a $75 charge. Pat surveyed the task and went to his truck to determine the price. He told me it would cost $375 to disconnect a disposal, water line and remove the kitchen sink. When I asked for an itemized bill I was told that if he itemized those three items the price would be much higher; these were the book prices he had to charge. (I had already booked a return appointment to reinstall these items after a new countertop was to be installed.) The work was performed in less than an hour. Later that day I called Service Works to inquire about the charges. The person who answered the phone told me he would have the plumber call me back, and I informed them that I'd already had this conversation with the plumber: I wanted to talk to a manager who could confirm the company's plumbing rates. He promised to call the plumber himself, look into it, and get back to me. I did not receive a return call that day. The following day I called the office again. Another person answered the phone and I explained again that I wanted clarification on the rates charged. The woman who answered said she had not seen the plumber's ticket from the previous day's work and would follow up and call me back. I was not called back. On the third day, when the follow-up work was to be done (reinstalling sink & disposal following installation of a new countertop) the plumber himself called me. He seemed to think it odd that no one from his office had called me to answer my questions and I told him he was not to come to my house if I was going to be charged another $375. He offered to call his office between jobs but I still have not heard back from them. And my sink is still on my kitchen table. Based on my experience I must rate this company F on pricing and responsiveness, and therefore their professionalism also rates an F.

This is the owner. Rich. i just was notified of this customer yesterday. I am out of town so I appologize for any delay. I think this all has happened in short order. i will break down the cost as well for anyone who reads this. I would like to post this as an educational for homeowners about service companies. I've been doin this for a few years and I problably run one of the most honest companies out there. So I'm not afraid to disclose the information below. Some customers may not agree with it, for those there are unliciensed or one man operations out there. Some do great work, some dont. I do almost anything to satisfy my customers but my pricing is not to rip customers off but to survive. We only make 3-5% profit, and trust me its alot of work to get it. As many may know that residential service requires a written estimate prior to work commencement per the state of VA. In order to do so we have a flat rate book. I give my technicians the books that are provided by a company that produces rate books based on times of repairs by national average. This allows the technicians to be able to price accordingly based on the job that they see onsite or after investigating the problem. The rates are then plugged in for our area and costs. This is based on a 5 hour billable day. Some may dispute the amounts and say BASED ON 5 HOURS!! Yes to educate the general public, when flat rating, all costs are incorporated except time to investigate a problem. We call this the trip charge, diagnostic, service call, ect. This charge is usually, for us at least, is kept to a minimal or even at a loss to generate work. Yes you can get free estimates but that time is collected somewhere, they just dont tell you. Generally a saleman will give free estimates, he makes a commission for his time. A technician get paid by the hour, whether he is driving to your job, to the supply house, sitting in traffic, someone has to pay for this time (his time). Skilled tradesmen in our area get paid from $27-$40+ dollars per hour. In reality that isnt very much with the cost of living in our area. $60-80k per year. I could get employees for less but once again for another cost. Will the be drug free, will they show up to work, can I trust them to represent Service Works "Me", will they pa.ss background checks. Customers dont think about that aspect. Next lets add the taxes, medical insurance, workers comp insurance, vacation, sick, company overhead such as vehicle costs, company general liabilty insurance, ware house, dispatcher, manager........I think my point may be clear? An attorney doesnt charge more per hour because he is worth more. They charge more because they are based on billable hours. They take there costs and divide them by the average billable hours! Some cost more do more overhead some cost less. Some bill based on what others are charging, thouoh not a very good business practice. (hope the rate they chose covers there overhead) So what ever happened to hourly or time and matertial? Well we still do this for some circumstances and for commercial work. In this case companies have 2-4 hour minimums, large mark up on materials, and truck charges.....all to get to the same cost as flat rate. ( we even get to bill travel and time to pick up materials!) I know this is no excuse for this customers complaint of no response. I will deal with this directly. I think mainly due to my being out of town the employees dont know how to explain pricing so they practiced the avoidance technique. Hope this sheds some light on pricing for customers. I feel I am providing the best service at the best affordable price. Some people will always disagree. If someone has a question feel free to ask. If a service company says they are cheaper, I would ask for there P&L statement! They are getting it somewhere or they are a sinking ship! The only way to be cheaper is to have less overhead and more techs.(not possible).A company can have lower paid techs (not good for quality and trust), Lower overhead, an owner in a service truck operating out of his house. (the company will never grow) Thanks for reading ~ Rich FYI: If a company does not have proper workers comp insurance and an employee gets hurt associated to your job who is liable? The homeowner. Its the law. You can be responsible for any and all medical bills and loss of work or disbility if the contractor does not have proper and up to date insurance. "for the proper trade" Drywall guy or handyman, does not have coverage for plumbing or AC work in most cases for General Liability or Worker Comp.

This was my first experience using Angie's list. I was not clear about what the $29.99 was supposed to cover, however, I was somewhat surprised that this payment was not deducted from the final bill. My mistake for not getting enough information up front. After using one of the leaky showers, I discovered that it now leaks even when the shower is turned off, which it was not doing before. The good news is that I now know the cause of my problems and the majority are rather minor. Because no materials were used, I was only charged a one hour labor charge although the tech was at my home about an hour and ten minutes. The bad news is that $130.00 later, other than my filter being replaced, I will now be doing the repairs myself. Update: After replacing the washer on the showerhead as recommended the shower still leaked. I contacted another plumbing company who immediately determined the cartridge was bad and replaced it. Problem solved. I was led to believe that this solution is basic Plumbing 101 so I am unsure why Service Works could not solve it.
Description of Work: The technician arrived about 30 minutes ahead of his scheduled time and was very cordial. I requested he look at some installation work done a year ago to install my dishwasher which now occasionally leaks. He immediately determined that the seal was being 'pinched' and that I should call appliance repair/manufacturer. Next, he replaced my undercounter water filter. He then retaped two leaky shower heads (approximately 2 years old), however, the showerheads still leak. He determined that they both need replacement washers and (understandably) he did not carry the sizes needed. After checking a leak under a bathroom sink, he determined the leak was coming from around the faucet and advised me to purchase some silicon caulk to recaulk the faucet.

Purchased a Big Deal for $29. Patrick arrived on time and quickly and professionally diagnosed the problem: a leak from a dried-out overflow gasket in the master bath. He had a replacement gasket on the truck and made the switch in less than 10 minutes. He checked his book for the cost of the gasket and I was stunned at the price he quoted me for this work: $111.00. He stated that he deducted $29 from the price of the gasket to reflect the amount I paid for the Big Deal. He was at my house for a total of about 20 minutes. The charge seems excessive to me for a gasket and 20 minutes of his time, especially for a Big Deal from a highly rated Angie's List member business. Patrick fixed my problem, hopefully, and gave me directions to recaulk the tub. I got a year's warranty, but it just doesn't feel like I got a "deal". Note: If I can be assured that the typical cost of overflow gaskets is in the $111 range, I will happily amend this report and my rating for Price.

We purchased an Angie's List BigDeal from Service Works ($29.99 for $99.00 service call) with the intention of using the service call to replace a malfunctioning Moen kitchen sink faucet. I had tried repeatedly to repair the faucet myself (it needed a new core), but couldn't remove the old core. We assumed the entire faucet assembly would need to be replaced. I called the company shortly after the BigDeal purchase was confirmed and talked to the owner, Rich. He quoted a fixed price of $100 for the work. The office manager emailed us within a couple of days after getting the Angie's List order and requested info on the best time to do the work. We scheduled a visit 2 days later. Pat arrived as promised (actually a bit early) and, after assessing the situation, explained that the labor and additional materials needed to install the new one would far exceed the cost to simply rebuild the existing unit. He suggested that he just repair the existing faucet instead of installing a new one. Even tho we already had purchased a new replacement faucet, we agreed to do that to save money. He used a special tool to quickly remove the old core, clean up the body of the faucet and install a new Moen metal core to replace the existing plastic core that had self-destructed. The whole job was completed in under an hour and the faucet is as good as new!. We were very pleased with Pat's professionalism and capability and would certainly use this company again in the future.

Plumber that came out called to discuss details of job and gave me an idea of what the job would entail. He arrived on time, got right to work and completed the job to my satisfaction in a timely fashion. Their pricing was fair- much more reasonable than a local competitor's quote. I liked my plumber so much that I gave his number to my husband, who used him the next day for a project at his office/warehouse. We will be purchasing a HVAC contract with them as well.

I got a very detailed idea of what would be done to replace my water heater, also an analysis of what might be happening with the old one (bottom line: prob needed to replace because the cost to repair would be close to cost of new, and I'd have only limited life w/the old one, even if it got fixed for the time being). Serviceman was knowledgeable and gave me confidence that the work would be performed in a capable manner. i simply went with another contractor (one I have used in the past, so have a good service track record on them) because the quoted cost to replace the water heater, for the same heater brand and model, was about 20% less.

I called Service Works to unclog the only toilet in my house after RotoRooter did not arrive within the one hour window they had promised and failed to call.. After two hours (and an unnecessary hour lost from work), I called Service Works based on the Angies' list reviews even though there were just a couple of reports. The receptionist/dispatcher, Rich, was very friendly and professional and at around 11 am, he gave me a two hour window for 12-2. When I called back around 11:45 to get an idea of whether I had time to run to the bank (and use the bathroom at the Starbucks), I was told the plumber was on the way. Patrick, the plumber, arrived shortly after noon and was gone in less than 15 minutes. He was friendly and courteous. I gave a B rating for price because the charge was a flat rate $178, which I think is steep for this service based on experience. However, my choices were limited since I needed someone to come the same day (it's the only toilet for a family of four). With the Angie's List coupon, the bottom line was $153. I gave a B rating for professionalism, because I think the plumber could have taken better precautions to provide a bag or tarp to put his cloth on rather than on my sink, since the toilet was full of waste. He did not leave any visible mess behind , but I will have to take care to disinfect the sink and toilet and the floor in the hallway to the door. Overall, a good experience for a fairly simple job and the plumber also gave some tips on how to avoid future clogs. I would use them again for similar work if I'm in a pinch.

Response from Service Works Heating & Air Conditioning
Thank you for the review, and we will review with our employees the importance of protecting customers assets while performing their duties. We pride ourselves in being tidy after job completion, i guess some thought needs to be on during the proccess. With reguards to price, we are struggling with keeping our prices low. There is alot of costs behind the scenes of a service company that customers may not understand. Unfortunaly with gas at $4+ per gallon costs to operate service companies are at highest levels ever!
