We have a year around agreement with them to place fertilizer and weedkill and to aerate and overseed. We have had issues with them over the past three years of keeping to their written schedule. Their schedule might say weedkill June-July and they would show up late July after weeds had become a real problem. In the Fall of 2009 they did not aerate and overseed until late October and the seed did not germinate that late in the growing season. This year they were scheduled for four visits but made only three and we had weeds worse than in years prior. I have also asked them to not fertilize in the Spring (Virginia Tech Extension states that Spring fertilization simply makes the grass look nice but is harmful in that this adds blade growth at the expense of root growth. This can lead to earlier browning in the Summer and more weeds. But, they mix their fertilizer with their weedkill and cannot apply only weedkill. We had another firm provide an estimate and they pointed out additional weed types and the presence of grubs and voles that Davey Tree never mentioned. And Davey has mentioned the need for soil testing to determine if lime is needed to balance out acidic soil. Why they are pleasant to deal with and very professional, it is my opinion that they skimp on labor (number of workers) and thus have trouble keeping on schedule.

They did a very good job. They totally cleaned up after themselves. I had some large branches taken off from a pine tree which was like 10 feet from the house. So they didn’t hit the house and were very careful. The branches were hanging over the roof and they somehow got it out of there. They were on time and the yard looked like they had never been there. So it was great.

Getting the initial quote was a hassle-free process, and the info given at the time was very helpful. Someone called before the work began, to ensure our cars were removed from the driveway. The project was completed in a timely manner, and there were no difficulties. The stump was ground out shortly after the tree was removed.
