Neat Sweep

Everything was fine. Shirley was excellent to work with in arranging times and costs. Good to do business with. I was surprised to see the "F" ratings. ??

He gave us a quote for some other work that needed to be done and we found someone cheaper to do that.

He came when he said he would. He went up and performed the work on the chimney. He came when he said he would. He went up and performed the work on the chimney. That’s important that they come and do the job and then they go. I hate when you have to keep calling people to come and do the job.

A followup inspection by a certified fire inspector revealed the following: The replacement back wall recommended and installed by Neat Sweep was not approved for use by the fireplace manufacturer, did not fit properly, and was by itself a fire hazard The heat reflector recommended and installed by Neat Sweep was not approved for use by the fireplace manufacturer, and was, by itself, a fire hazard I have contacted the company with my issues but have never received a response. This unwillingness on the company's behalf to address these very serious and potentially life threatening issues, I think, demonstrates that their motives lie in profits. I do however, continue to get their telemarketing calls. This is a company that is not, in my opinion, even qualified to be working on something as important and potentially dangerous as a fireplace. Update........allow me to address Mr. Kastner's response: 1. The work took place in December 2009 & January 2010, and was not discovered until January 2011. None of that adds up to 3 years ago. 2. The heat reflector provided by Mr. Kastner's company was NOT approved by the fireplace manufacturer and was therefore a fire hazard. I have never implied the heat reflector went 'bad', and I don't know what he means by 'not a noted item'. I have the receipt from his company detailing the sale. 3. I have not complained to 'everyone'. I first contacted Mr. Kastner. He never had the courtesy to respond to me in any way; instead he ignored my 1 letter. I then complained to Angie's List and The BBB.......that is hardly 'everyone', and until I receive an acceptable response I will continue to seek remedy to this situation. This issue is not about my opinion versus Mr. Kastner's opinion. I was told, by a certified National Fireplace Institute (NFI) Inspector who inspected my fireplace in 2011 that both the heat reflector and back wall, provided by Mr. Kastner's company, were fire hazards and neither was approved for use by the manufacturer of my fireplace. In any future responses I would hope Mr. Kastner would address that Issue. Mr. Kastner's most recent response obfuscates the issues of my original complaint, and I am not participating in the machinations of another, I will leave that to him. Any reputable company would respond out of courtesy to a customer complaint. I would challenge Mr. Kastner to provide any proof of ever having contacted me, because he never has. I do however, continue to get his company's telemarketing calls constantly, despite repeated requests to be removed from their call list. In my experience, this is NOT a company that stands behind the work they do, or one that is willing to address, without duress, customer complaints. I will advise all my friends and contacts to use a nationally certified fireplace inspector for their home, which Neat Sweep Chimney & Dumpsters is not.

Thanks to their hard work the smell of burnt wood that had been pervading our home since we bought it is a thing of the past. Also there is now a load of insulation around the liner which had not been there ever before which will be a difference to the air conditioning bill in summer I reckon. These guys came in, did the work, cleaned up after themselves, and I am left with a job well done. The people who come to the house get A's all around. The only part that is not worth high marks is the company's call center. For example a guy came out as scheduled and said he recommended such and such. I agreed and scheduled the work with that person right then. Then 2 weeks later I get a call asking if I would like to schedule that work to be done. I think there is a miscommunicaiton between the call center and the guys in the field. But a minor infraction for sure, just an eye roller.

I've somehow gotten on their list of telemarketing targets. They keep calling, and won't stop (from 804 232 1877). I've reported them through the National Do Not Call Registry, and asked them repeatedly to remove me from their list. I've also told them that I've reported them, and am now considering contacting the Virginia Consumer Affairs Department of the Attorney General's office. Beware, if you do business with this company, you maybe be subject to unrelenting telemarketing calls in the future.

The service was great, professional and reasonably priced. They left my house clean and neat, showed up on time and answered all my questions.

I got him from Angie's List and he was wonderful. He was completely honest. He could have taken me for a lot of money for the after hour service. I was worried about my chimney liner being cracked but he said that it mostly happened around the different areas in our state. He did a great job and it was reasonable. He was here for an hour. I will use him again next year.

I contacted the company, they sent someone out to do the repair work, he was incredible, diligent, friendly, professional and did what he said he was going to do in an extremely timely manner. I was very impressed with this company overall.

I called Neat Sweep on a Friday to have my fireplace/chimney inspected. They scheduled to come out the next day (on a Saturday) and showed up on time. The rep, Corey completed the inspection & cleaned the chimney and explained additional work that needed to be completed to make the fireplace safe for use. I had a lot of questions. He was very knowledgeable-he took his time to answer every question I had and explain next steps. He was also very polite & pleasant. We scheduled the work for 2 weeks out. Corey called me the following Monday to say I was on the scheule for Monday October 17th around 9:00. I also received a reminder card in the mail as well as a follow up letter with the work being done & the quoted price. Corey showed up on time on the 17th. He first had to remove a clog from way up in the chimney. He had ro rebuild the firebox to make the fireplace safe for use, because the old masonry was crumbling. He tore out the old wall, relayed new brick and painted it with high temp paint after the rebuild. The fireplace did not have a damper and the chimney had no cap, so he installed a new damper/cap combination (special order because of the size 13 x 13). This all took approximately 3 hours. When the job was completed, he went over everything he had done and made sure I new how to open & close the new damper properly. He did a very thorough clean up when he was finished

I guess fine. Guy seemed nice, but was hoping a cleaning would help creosote smell, which it hasn't. He said he could do a more heavy duty creosote removal, but would cost extra.

They are very nice and cleaned my chimney. They said I needed a new chimney lining which would cost more than 2,000. They were not able to provide any other proof besides some broken tiles that this was needed to be done. He then proceeded to pressure me to get the liner through scare tactics. I inquired with another company and they said that I would not need to do this at least for another 5 years.

They were on time and they did a good job. They even took a picture and showed up what they saw inside the chimney. I am very happy with their services.

Arrived on time. Was helpful and professional. Was very friendly. Made suggestions regarding chimney cap and fully explained why he gave the suggestion. Finished promptly. I will definitely call them again.

I got a phone call from them reminding me that it is time to sweep our chimney. I set up an appointment with them. They gave me a time from noon to 4 on the appointed day. They were a little later than that, but they were very responsive about it and kept me in the loop. They also gave me a small discount because they were later than planned. Abel was the person who came to do the job. What a guy he is! He has two decades of experience. He is very professional, friendly, works hard and most importantly, kept our house spotless clean. I was really astounded by that.

An appt was made for Friday, March 18th. The workman was 30 min. late, but called. He came in appraised the firebox from the inside and then the chimney from the outside. He said he could not do the job himself as the distance from the peak of the roof to the top of the chimney was too high for him to reach. He tried to point out that the other chimneys in the cul-de-sac were different; there were 2 others that were the same. He would need another person and to reschedule the appt. I told him I was disappointed that the work could not be done that day and that he came unprepared. On March 30th, the appt reschedule day, a very tall young man showed up alone to sweep the chimney. He was polite. I asked where the other man was. He didn't need a second person, like the first man, and went about cleaning the firebox and the chimney. He did take care to lay a cover on the area rug to keep from soiling it. He was efficient and tolerant of my dog. I rescheduled the appt. based on Angie's List ratings that the company did good work; otherwise, I would not have done so.

I liked everything about them. I referenced them on Angie's List and they were at the top. They were a little cheaper than the other service provider that I contacted. They were quick and efficient. They did exactly as to what they said that they would do and everything turned out to be minimally intrusive. I would most definitely use them again in the future.

fast , efficient, got along with hyper dog. recommended repointing but did not pester. company sent follow-up letter reminding me repointing necessary and asking me to schedule appointment.

John was very polite. He explained to this new home owner what was done and what was need with pricing. I have set up an appointment for him to come back to do the repairs.

The serviceman arrived as scheduled, was professional and informed me as to what needed to be done and he completed the work without leaving a mess. The cost of cleaning of the second chimney was slightly discounted. I would definitely use Neat Sweep again.

I had booked Neat Sweep to come out during the week, but unfortunately after the driver arrived he realized that he had run over a bolt and gotten a flat tire. He had to leave without completing the work to get the tire repaired, however I had received a call within an hour to reschedule for the following Saturday and offered a $10 discount. The sweep arrived on time that Saturday, prepped the area to prevent soot from getting in our den and then went up to the chimney to inspect and clean. After about 5 minutes, he came back in and asked if I'd like to take a look at what he had found; a cracked clay liner that renders my fireplace unsafe to use. He then completed the cleaning, answered several questions I had about my options for repairing the fireplace and wrote me up an estimate for that service ($2000 for a stainless steel liner, which I declined). Overall, they were professional and courteous. Only caveat - about a week later I was up on the roof cleaning my gutters and noted that the caulk on the flashing around the chimney had deteriorated quite badly and left large gaps where water could penetrate. It would have been nice if taking a look at the flashing had been part of their inspection, but I suppose that wasn't explicitly offered as part of the service.

Neat Sweep was great. Everyone I spoke with was very polite and professional. They returned my call quickly, showed up exactly on time--on a Saturday the day after I called--and did a terrific job. I would definitely recommend them.

Very pleasant and smiling individual. Went on the roof and swept out the chimney from the top, then pulled out the wood stove and vacuumed out the debris. Inspected masonry. Replaced the woodstove. Before the cleaning, whenever we turned on the attic fan, the smell from the fireplace became very strong. Now, there is no fireplace smell when the attic fan is on. I think he did a great job.
