We are now a Class A contractor. Our business focus will change with this new status. We will not be able to take on as many smaller projects as in the past. However, if you want to know the most information possible about your project prior to work beginning, you are in the right place, but please do not use us as an estimating service. We provide evaluations, (sometimes at a fee) of the requested work with budgetary estimates that you can use to make your decisions. Our extensive construction knowledge sets us apart from all the other companies and we are simply the best value out there. Our ability to "value engineer" a project is superior and we will guard some information/trade secrets to ensure we stay above the "pack". Once you commit to ZPL, you will be educated from start to finish. We function as a family owned & operated business and I am a working boss spending a great deal of time in the field on your projects making sure all is done well which helps to ensures our standards remain high. This can however, slow our response times on estimates and scheduling estimates from time to time so please be patient with us. You will get the same great service others are getting right now after you commit to ZPL and are scheduled accordingly. We are adding tradesmen as we can afford and as we find the right folks which will help us serve more of you quicker. If you are reading this please be sure to visit our website and fill out the contact form. This will ensure we can contact you ASAP. www.zeropunchlist.com Please be patient with us. We will give you the same dedication we are giving our current clients when your turn comes around. Rome was not built in a day and although the internet has made it very easy to make contact with someone's business, there are still logistical issues to coordinate and resolve before we all get what we want and when we want it. We will serve you with the same exhaustive service we are giving our current clients. We accept checks and cash for services rendered. If you are using one of our coupons or taking advantage of the senior discount (65 yrs), please let us know that prior to soliciting an estimate. Thanks. We are so much more than what you might think

They did an excellent job and we would use them again without question. We highly recommend the company.
Description of Work: The company removed 2 aging decks and stairs and replaced them with new pressure treated lumber and built new steps. After the wood had cured, they came back and treated the decks with a stain. They did an excellent job, were very courteous and professional and left a clean job site.

We could not have been happier with the quality of the work; the timeliness of the job; and general communication. During the course of the job, we dealt with several family members/friends/employees of Zero Punch List and every one of them were friendly and professional. Zero Punch List will be our go-to company whenever we need any job done around the house.
Description of Work: We were getting ready to put our house on the market and had an extensive list of jobs. The scope of the work was everything from minor repairs to rebuilding cabinetry that another carpenter tried (unsuccessfully). We had used ZPL for a quick mailbox repair last year and Weston did a great job so we didn't hesitate to call on him when we put together a long list. The list included repointing the brickwork on front porch; rebuilding a window seat that was proportionally incorrect; removing and replacing garage door trim; replacing trim at base of pergola columns; repairing loose railings on front porch; reconfiguring cabinetry and adding new cabinet doors; and more! I am especially pleased with the window seat...Weston is a master craftsman with fine furniture. .

The owner Weston had done some repair work in a bathroom (I researched Angie's list to find Zero Punch list and liked the reviews) so I was impressed with the work so a few months later asked him back to quote and explain what was needed to reapir my walls. He spent a lot of time (very patient and knowledgeable) explaining what needed to be done and why (which was also informative). The kitchen cabinets were severely scratched and ugly and he offered several possibilities of which we chose the one that simply made the most sense for the money, sanding and painting (dark stained cabinets) them white. The bottom line the work was extensive and Weston explained what he had to do that he did not expect at first (the amount of drywall screws he had to add to the original construction). The was planned to move along in a coordinated manner. The work overall took a couple weeks longer than anticipated, but that was due to one more work on the walls than was apparent when quoting and two Weston seems to be a perfectionist and if something did not look right he ensured it was corrected to his standards. Other things were done as well (new light fixture, removing a wood valance in the kitchen, etc) and everything was done right. The interior looks like a new house. Even with some extra items not quoted I was not charged additional money for the work. The original quote was good. All in all I am exceptionally satisfied and have a number of other projects (remodeling two bathrooms, a new floor in the kitchen and large utility room) that I will be calling to have Zero Punch List do. I do not need to guess on who I will go with. I highly recommend Zero Punch List. You will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Extensive repair/remud and drywall work followed by sanding and painting, additional painting and repair of walls and trim throughout house. Sand and paint kitchen cabinets and replace hardware. Due to wall movement from shrinkswell soil there were a lot of cracks and separation.

Even though the walls and ceilings needed a little more attention that what i thought during our initial walk through, I am glad that all the repairs held together. Let's hope that the foundation repairs by others will do the same as our work completely depends on their work being done correctly. We hope you enjoy your "new look" and colors. Weston and Lori

Zero Punch List did an excellent job. In the bathroom remodel they removed the formed tub insert and old tile flooring replacing it with a new tub, tiling the walls around the tub and putting in a new tile floor. In the sun room there was indoor/outdoor carpet over a wooden decking. They removed the old carpet and installed a sub flooring before carpet was laid by another company. This and other work they performed earlier turned this room into our favorite place to relax, eat dinner and watch television. They installed a skylight upstairs in a room without any windows providing much needed light. They also installed a closet in the same room doing an excellent job to make the closet look like it was originally part of the room. Lastly they worked on the sheet rock in another bathroom where it was obvious it had not been installed properly when the house was built. Too many cracks kept coming back after I tried to repair the walls. Their work is top notch. They clean up after themselves the end of each day. If you have questions you will get a knowledge and professional response. I would definitely use them again.

[Member name removed], I will apologize in this forum, as I already did by personal email. We, at Zero Punch-List, have been incredibly busy for many months, along with experiencing the joys and blessings of becoming first-time grandparents. While I help manage our family business to the best of my abilities, both in the office and in the field 7 days per week, I need to admit and confess that your email simply "slipped through the cracks". The lack of a reply to your evaluation date choices was certainly not intentional, rather simply a mistake, and I am sorry. My error cannot be transferred to Weston, nor anyone else in our company; this was an oversight on my part, I admit to this mistake, and it is mine alone. It was disappointing to read this review and ratings. I understand your disappointments of this recent experience, however we are all human, and being honest is all I can offer you. Helping new parents adjust and enjoying all aspects of being new grandparents has been worth every moment so far. I would not trade it for anything in the world....

I am sorry that you are unhappy with the result of the paint on your porch ceiling. Please recall that you purchased a Big Deal and we performed the work that you specifically requested even though we provide you other options to address the preexisting paint/drywall issue. Since your porch had drywall, yes drywall on the porch ceiling and since it had seen a few years without proper attention, our effort to correct your damaged drywall had less than 100% of success. We did prime it to attempt to stabilize the drywall so it would hold new drywall compound in the joints, etc. Additionally, you opted to not employ us beyond the Big Deal time frame to finish the sanding and painting. You finished the sanding and painted your own ceiling. If you are going to attempt to transfer responsibility for your own actions please know or at least remember the facts before engaging in the process. We are always so amazed when folks complain about the results of their own decisions. Weston

The estimate itself was $2,500 which is more than we wanted to spend. The technician indicated that there would be a trip charge every time he drove to our house from Powhatan. This, in addition to the cost of the job, made it cost prohibitive for us to consider using Zero Punch List. I guess if you live in Powhatan this might be a good company to use. They have a very professional website and email contact system, but living in Bon Air in Chesterfield would have added unnecessary charges to the job.

[member name removed], It is funny that you are entering the review when I spoke with your husband. You two must not have had the time to speak since our site visit. Our estimate of $2,500 is the base price for such work since we have yet to preform a complete shower tile floor replacement, including a new vinyl pan, wall tile, etc. that did not cost $2,500 or more. Yes, several trips are needed to complete such a job as there are many drying stages for the built up floor, setting the floor and it's drying time, grouting the floor, setting the wall tile that would need to be replaced, etc. Normally 5-7 days. No, the addional trips do not get added on to the estimate. I simply gave this value to him so you two could talk and discuss your options. The site visits may only last 1-2 hours and 3-4 are required after the major work is completed. I stated to your husband that his repair repair estimate is a base price and should you decide to use ZPL we would come out again and discuss to what extent you wanted the shower "worked over" we would then and only then submit a firm estimate. It also seems to m e that we never did hear from you with any questions concerning the "free" information we gave your husband that day. As a matter of fact we were the ones that actually identified exactly where the leak was since you all did not know that information upon my arrival that day. I spent over an hour explaining the options with your husband and as I recall he was quite pleased when I left. Ask how we removed more of your wet fallen drywall and performed many water tests until "I" identified where the water was coming from. We even gave you a short term fix to buy time until you were ready to move forward. WOW! Again, our fault not speaking with both the husband and the wife concerning a project. A prime example of why are now offering a new service that will help any future home owner create a complete scope of work, feasibility study of the work requested and a detailed explanation of he sequence of construction so a homeowner can discuss with confidence potential contractors. Our new service will also eliminate wasted time for both the homeowner and contractors. I can't tell just how many of the folks we see simply are with out the right information before they ask a contractor to schedule and date and spend their time discussing an incomplete idea only to get a review like this. We have had the opportunity to meet many AL members and most meet or exceed the demographics AL describes that their members posses. We hope that all AL members will take the time to submit prompt reviews for all categories so factual and fair reviews are submitted so we, the vendor, do not have to defend against such inaccurate statements. Please folks, we, (doctors, trades people, other professionals), all work hard on your behave so please work hard for us when it is time to submit a review. Most service industries that come to you home have logistical issues not experienced by the "brick and mortar" type professionals so consider all it takes to make your project a success and rate accordingly especially if you are going to rate a "free estimate" that comes with perks. (removed member name) or now (removed member name), 18 months after we worked for you, you decide to submit a review. Really! Can any of us even remember what we had for dinner 3 nights ago. You must have forgotten that the Big Deal you purchased actually cost our company over $475 to perform and the $75 you paid was a fabulous deal for the work we performed. (Big Deals help companies to get reviews so other members can see and decide for themselves if they wish to hire that company). So, we show up to find out that the work you want done is to advance the work on a tree house you started but could not finish. (Not the kind of work you find listed under our portfolio!) but, we did it anyway. We even gave you great advise on how to strengthen your design as the tree house was anything but safe. We simply prayed that while we were up in your tree house that it would not fall to the ground as your anchor points were "iffy" at best. We not only fulfilled our obligation by redeeming your coupon, you asked us for an estimate to finish the tree house implementing our ideas to strengthen your design. We never did hear back from you as we assumed you did the work yourself. If we are judged by what you think verses reality, then we really don't need to work for folks of your nature. Honestly (removed member name), who in their right mind would be interested in working on a "homeowner" tree house project connected to only one tree that does not look safe to be in. Maybe some companies would be happy with your "B" ratings, we/ZPL views it as a disappointment and that we were not appreciated for the true value you received. Reviews like this remind us to interview future clients better during the initial stages of communication. We simply are not in business to receive anything less than "A" ratings. We may fail logistically, scheduling issues or in communication but our product and service can not be beat. Member "reviews" need to take into account all aspects of construction and the challenges that arise. It is not like buying a pair of shoes from Amazon and sending them back and complaining that they don't fit. End of my rant. Sorry folks to those of you who have made it this far. We are passionate about delivering to you construction services that far exceed the industries standards. If we fail during the process please let us know so we can adjust and satisfy your needs by better understanding your expectations. Weston

Overall the work that was performed was good. The closet required enclosing a balcony with some simple framing, and sheet rocking but required everything to be done over two stories up in an open area. The total time for the job was estimated at about 5 days. It was completed over a 3 week period. The 3 weeks didn't bother me too much, but the lack of communications was poor. I prefer working with someone that is much more punctual. I would also recommend a more formal quote similar to the invoice I received. The quote I received was an email with a couple of bullets. Other quotes I had received were more detailed.

(removed member name), We simply don't understand your review. B's are OK but the "D's". May I ask whatever happened to "I chose you because you gave us several options and that you thoroughly explained the work we want done" and all the nice comments your wife gave us we performed the wall repairs as if the balcony never even existed and the hand shake at the end of the job saying "Great job, everything looks great". We treated you, your wife and your home with respect and performed the work better than you would have been able to find for the price. Additionally, your one email sent that one Friday after coming home from being gone for the week, "I was told that the electrical and rheostat installation would take place at the end of the week. I arrived home after being out of town today to find no additional work had been done. Can you please give me an update on when we should expect completion of the work?" It was very obvious to us that you did speak with your wife prior to sending your message otherwise she would have told you that when we left Wednesday, we would not be able to return until the following Monday. Which by the way, she was totally fine with. Actually, she seemed very satisfied through the construction process as I think she has a much better understanding of the construction process than you do. I truly hope you never fail or "miss the mark" at your work and if you do I would hope that those whom you answer to would ask questions and evaluate all information before they render a verdict on your performance. As we have stated in other comments to reviews such as yours, we may fail occasionally in logistics, scheduling and or communication from time to time, but our product and service are beyond compare and that should mitigate some our failures or short comings during the process. Especially since we never leave a client until they are fully satisfied. What happened here? For those of you reading this please remember than construction is not an exact science and is more like making an omelette. You first break some eggs and then you clean up the kitchen. It is a process unlike buying something on line or a fast food meal. Oh, and your comment about the estimate being an email vs. the invoice being a formal document, did you forget our conversation about the lightning strike and that we lost over 6 months of data and the use of our computer and that we will use emails until we are able to store our data, etc. I guess next time we need to insist on meeting both the husband and wife so we know what we are up against. I hope you truly enjoy the presence of your wife as did while we were in your home. She was pleasant, hospitable and gracious. Weston
He was exceptional. He was the 9th or 10th company that I researched and he came in at less than half because I was getting bids well over a thousand dollars so I hired him. The only negative about the gentleman is he is a little bit slow at getting back to you sometimes but that's because his company is hands on with pretty much every job. They're working all day long so sometimes, it may be a couple of days or a few days before he actually returns a call or an e-mail. The reason why the price turned out to be higher than originally quoted was when he came out to do the original work, he noticed that I have gutters around my front porch and he noticed that one of the gutters was clogged up and it was not on an angle so every time it rains, my stairs were getting wet and they were staying wet so he, on the spot, quoted me $75.00 to correct the problem and we were able to get the stairs dried up. It took quite a while to get the job done because the weather was bad. I've been in my house 16 years and I probably had the job done 5 times and I've never had a more beautiful job. It was absolutely meticulous. What I loved about him also was he always was very upfront with me. He never tried to sugarcoat anything or sell me anything that he thought I didn't need. He was very helpful in choosing the right kind of stain for the age of the wood on the deck. I wasn't sure about the type of stain to use and he was very instrumental in helping with that and I have been absolutely thrilled with the job. The only reason I haven't had the gentleman back to do other work in and around my house is because of finances at the moment. Once I'm ready to get some work done, he will be my first and hopefully only call. The price for fixing the gutter was extremely reasonable. He was true to his word as far as the cost. His cost included the cost of the stain which I thought was also terrific. I picked what I want and he picked it up. I love the job. I'm actually thrilled with it. I felt he's very honest and he gave me his assessment and I went with what he suggested and I'm 100% happy. He did clean up after the job and it looked presentable. There were some boards around my house that were rotting through that were not part of the deck or the porch and he was very kind to point them out and I would have given him the work of replacing them except that that work is covered by my condo association but he went around and marked every one of them with paint so that when someone will do the job, he didn't have to go and reassess the house and start to finish everything he already marked for him which I thought was amazing. It was very generous of him to do that. They worked literally until the sun went down and they put everything back. They cleaned up after themselves and they were super neat. I was beyond thrilled with the job. It was really worth the wait. They did a beautiful job. He's hands on with every single job that he does and he doesn't send subcontractors. He goes out with every job at least to participate or oversee and I appreciate that. I would trust this company to do any manner of work for me inside or out, I would feel confident. Overall, he is absolutely an A. I would use them in a heartbeat.

A++ Company!! I have been so impressed with every aspect of Zero Punch List. We were on a timeline to have our front door replaced. Zero Punch List was able to accommodate us by doing our bid with pictures, thus making it possible to put our job in the cue sooner. We were very impressed with this kind of flexibility and creativity in order to help us meet our goal. Lori, who runs the office coordinated this-- she was wonderful to work with. The front door / door frame removal and install went exactly according to the assessment given to us in the bid. The job was not straight forward because of how our siding was installed. Some siding needed to be removed in order to remove the existing front door frame. We were told about this complication up front, in very detailed emails from Weston, the owner. Weston's emails offered us several options to correct this problem, as well as advice on choosing a new front door. All of which were very appreciated. Weston did the job himself-- he was very thorough and professional. He came back a few weeks later to make a small adjustment to the exposure. He was very responsive to phone calls / emails and made the adjustment with a smile. Our punch list is long.. I know we will happily call them again.. until our punch list is a Zero Punch List (:

He was excellent but it was about 7 weeks before he could get to us and we needed the work done sooner.
Description of Work: He gave an estimate for leveling our shed.
I'm happy with the results. My garage looks like a Ferrari or Lamborghini should be parked in it. The project was a lot to coordinate for me as I had Zero Punch List finishing the garage walls and 2 other contractors doing the electrical and flooring/custom cabinets. But Wes was good at communicating and flexible in scheduling so we got it all done. I had some questions along the way and Wes always answered my questions and addressed any concerns I had. The quality is awesome. A real professional job. Wes took time to put several coats of mud on the dry wall, so the walls are smooth. The carpentry and trim work was solid. The painting was well done. I'm pretty picky about quality and I have to say that I'm pleased. A really good experience. I will definitely consider using Zero Punch List again when I'm doing my next home improvement project.
Description of Work: I have an attached garage in the back of my 1960's brick ranch style house that I wanted to finish and renovate. Zero Punch List performed the finishing of the walls in the garage. I had 2 other contractors lined up to do electrical and flooring/custom cabinets. Zero Punch List helped me with the following phases of the project 1. They built 2 X 4 stud walls on 2 walls of the garage ( the 3rd wall is brick and I wanted to leave that wall exposed. 2. They hung dry wall ( moisture resistant ) on the 2 stud walls. 3. They finished the walls by mudding, sanding, painting, and adding trim work. 4. They built trim work around the 1 window in the garage. 5. They also painted around the custom cabinets that were installed.

Thanks [member name removed], Your cooperative spirit and a willingness to understand that construction (phasing) is not always an exact science facilitated the good results. We try very hard everyday to stay on schedule and is a pleasure to meet someone who is willing to understand the process. Thanks for the kind words. Keep me posted when you buy that Ferrari. It will look great in garage. Tag us when you post pics on FB. Weston

After over a month of him missing appointments and taking days to respond to our requests for an estimate, we went to Lowe's,
Description of Work: Mr. Hinden took over a month to get us an estimate, and he never got us a full estimate but kept leaving out items that we had asked to be repaired. He never did the work.

(member name removed), I can't say that I did not expect your review. Based on your tone in two voice messages and your final email (about 14 email communications total), I could see this coming. However, since it is our image and reputation your judging, we should present the facts for all to see. Your initial inquiry came in 5-19-13. We replied with available evaluation dates and times on 5-20-13. You replied and excepted a time on 5-28-13. We arrived and met with your wife; a pleasant lady I might add. She showed us the items needing attention and explained the repairs to the rear deck door. I showed her that the door was not worth repairing and suggested a replacement door. We sent the estimate to repair 5 exterior wall vents with bird cages, the carpet repair and the soffit repair( to keep out the birds) for $575 on 6-9-13. You replied asking for an "updated estimate". You reminded us about the door request. We submitted your special order door request to our supplier on 6-12-13. I sent an update on 6-17-13 early AM stating a price would be available by noon. You replied that same morning saying that you "gave up" on our door estimate, and that you contracted with Lowe's for the door installation, but that you still wanted us to perform the other work . ( I wondered when you were going to tell us that bit of information...) Being somewhat confused by your reply, coupled with your history of short/sharp replies in voice mail, we made the decision that we were not the company to perform any of your work. We have enclosed that text below: "(member name removed), Sorry about the door, but when a company, ours, does good work, they are typically busy and we are. Also, being a working boss, as stated in our profiles, I am also out in the field working to ensure quality which can slow down the process of getting material quotes. We will also be gone the entire week of June 23rd on a mission trip and we currently have a 3-5 week wait time and I am afraid this won’t be acceptable to you based on your door response and previous voice messages. I believe it is best that we/ZPL, respectfully withdraw our estimate for the vents and soffit repair. The home center may have an option for this type of work too. Best of luck." Zero "Punch-List" LLC Weston Eric Hinden 804-382-1507 From: Donald [mailto:sunsetdon@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, June 17, 2013 7:53 AM To: zeropunchlist Subject: Re: estimate for vents, etc. "Weston - I gave up waiting on your door estimate. Lowe's is going to do it. We still need the bird cages. And the bird issues taken care of. " (member name removed) Sent from my iPhone (member name removed) Though our company exists to serve others and I believe that we do that very well, we have come to know that not everyone who submits a work request is a client for us. Your wife is pleasant, bless her heart, but your responses told us enough information that you would be better served by another company. We truly hope that all folks find a contractor they can work with for their home improvement needs. Please keep in mind that every estimate we go on costs our company over $135 in just time expended, not to mention the email and telephone follow-up necessary to answer all their questions. Also keep in mind that this is all at our risk since most requestors are seeking multiple estimates. Some days I wish we had a social media option to let the rest of the general public know what we think of particular people too. It might just balance out the scales. Weston Hinden

We responded to the estimate in a timely fashion, indicating that we would like to schedule the work. We never received a response despite repeated follow-up by voicemail and email. We were extremely disappointed in the lack of a response.
Description of Work: Zero Punch List came out to our home and reviewed the requested services. They subsequently provided a detailed estimate.

I apologize to those potential new clients that might want to see our reply to this review. Long short is we did reply to their acknowledgement/acceptance of our estimate but @ 3 days after it was sent. We stated during the estimate that our schedule was 3-5 weeks out and I guess I thought they would give a little grace on our ability to reply/accept them as clients. I guess we just missed their time line. Hopefully they found someone to perform their work. As we progress through the social media "world", we need to be more on point with our replies. AHHH! We do have a new office manager, Lori Hinden. You all should see a quicker turn around from us in the future. We are hopefully moving in the direction that we will be able to serve you all better. Scheduling and construction still take time so bear with us. I wish the other 30+ clients that have used us in the past few months would take the time to submit their review. They are how we need to truly represent our reputation. Weston

Needed a porch railing replaced. Suggested a basic railing which is what I wanted (unlike the other quoted contractors who were looking for a more elaborate railing). Because of the weather and holidays didn't get the work done when he quoted but overall did a good time.

(member name removed), Thanks for the review. For a moment I had to think who (member name removed) was. Then it clicked and realized who it was. My apologies. Though we strive for "A" reviews, we must have missed something between now and when we did the work. We removed your failing railing system, we custom made ,in our shop, railings to match your front railings, we use pressure treated wood (which requires a longer drying time before painting than untreated wood), we came and installed them and applied a final coat of paint. All for @$600 3 trips in all, 1 for the estimate, 1 for the railing removal and 1 for final installation all to get B's and a C for a review. I am a little puzzled as our effort far exceeds the fee charged. I guess way too much time has past between submitting the review, performing the work and the years you lived with unsafe failing railing system to fully appreciate our efforts. I guess we will just keep striving for perfection and pray the reviews come accordingly. Thanks again for taking the time to submit a review. Weston

We have had several contractors at our home and have never found one that we would use a second time until now. Wes from Zero Punch List came to our home recently and provided estimates on a list of repairs/renovations from small "fix-it" work to larger renovations. From the first meeting, I felt very comfortable and knew I would use his company going forward. Two items on the list were to replace our French patio door and repair the front porch steps and cover the front porch band with white "coil stock." Once the door was selected and ordered, I scheduled Wes to complete the install and porch work. They worked around my schedule and arrived promptly last Friday and had everything done in a few hours. Wes and his team are a pleasure to work with. We have had him estimate some larger jobs for us and plan to use him again to complete some more of our "list." If you are looking for a handyman or considering any renovations, you will not go wrong with Zero Punch List!

We contacted Zero Punch-List to provide a quote/bid on the remodel of our 203k reno mortgage property. Mr. Hinden was quick to respond to our emails. He did view the property and I felt based on his findings, it supported the initial estimate of what he believed the work would cost. He was very informative and was willing to work with us to accomodate our budget... Zero Punch-List is a very detail oriented business and that proves favorable to any potential customer. Due to unrelated circumstances however, we decided to go with a different contractor.

(Member name removed), Thanks for taking the time to submit a review. Sorry we could not respond to the additional work requested. Sometimes we think that we "run" our business but at times the business "runs" us. With that, it is hard to coordinate all requests. We have added a new tech to our team and we may add another. With so many handyman requests, we may need to have that as a separate division within ZPL. It is tough to logistically perform handyman, general remodeling and kitchen and bath work since each have such different time frames. Once again thanks. Weston
