Description of Work: I don't often make Angie's List write-ups, but hope you find my experience with Air Conditioning Specialists insightful. I first discovered Air Conditioning Specialists on Angie's List, noting that they had a very high customer satisfaction rating. I got a total of three estimates for my heating/cooling system replacement. The first company asked me several questions over the phone and asked me the size of my current unit, then gave me a quote over the phone without even coming to the house to validate my unit was sized correctly or even scope out the work. This company was automatically a "no-go" for me. The second company came out and took some measurements, but the estimate seemed high (~$8500 for a 3.5 ton Trane unit replacement). Any additional work such as sealing the floor registers and sealing the main supply duct was extra and was adding up quickly. Air Conditioning Specialists was the third company that came out, and I was very impressed from the very start. It started with Rob who called me 30 minutes in advance of the scheduled appointment to verify that I was home, then showed up within five minutes of the appointment time. He was very thorough inspecting inside and outside and taking detailed measurements. He concluded that our original 3-ton unit was slightly undersized and recommended a 3.5 ton Trane unit. Rob's estimate came in at approximately $7150 for a 3.5 ton unit. Knowing that my ventilation system was leaky, I asked Rob to also seal up all the floor vents, seal up the branch lines from the main ducting, add insulation tape to main ducting, and replace several support straps for the main ducting underneath the house. Rob considered this additional work, but stated that he would include all this work at no additional cost. Furthermore, they would replace the main circuit breaker, outside electrical disconnect, and replace all the galvanized steel covers as part of the job to ensure there wouldn't be any future problems. I was very impressed with Rob's willingness to work with me and not "nickel-and-diming" me for every little job, and quickly earned my respect for this company. I decided to go with Air Conditioning Specialists. Within three days, I received a personal letter from the company president thanking me for my business and also providing his personal home phone number should there be any problems or concerns. This is rare and gave me further confirmation that I chose a great company. On the day of the install, I received a call 15 minutes prior to arrival to verify that I was home and Air Conditioning Specialists arrived exactly on time. The install team consisted of Matt (team lead), Kenny, and Ryan. I found all three to be very personable, professional, and great at their jobs. The original equipment removal went smoothly, however, we found two major problems; the main ducting was in very poor shape and severely rusted in several places and the main support stand for the gas pack was uneven and bowed. Upon noting the problems, I was impressed at Matt's (team leader) communication skills and explaining the potential issues. I then contacted Rob and decided to replace the entire ducting system (supply, return, and all branch lines) and also add an Aprilaire 800 Humidifier to our system. There was absolutely no pressure, but I had enough trust in the company by now to know that I was getting a fair price with excellent workers and didn't need any additional estimates. Regarding the support stand, I purchased the pressure treated wood and Kenny built the new support stand at no additional cost while Matt worked on the new humidifier system underneath the house. I was very pleased to see Matt frequently referenced the humidifier installation instructions and following the guidelines exactly as written, ensuring that he got the slope of the copper piping just right to ensure the system was setup correctly. The electrician came out and installed the new breakers, disconnect, and wiring to the new Trane XL-14C gas pack and humidifier just as Rob said they would. Kenny did a great job constructing the new stand and working on the outside unit while Ryan worked very hard underneath the house working on the ducting and new branch lines. Ryan even installed some new insulation which wasn't even part of the job, but they seemed to take great, great pride in their work. This was a two-day job and Arrick (Quality Supervisor) came by both days to inspect the work. This company is top-notch, and I was truly impressed with every member of their team who performed work on our system. Kenny and Ryan deserve special recognition for Kenny's great work on constructing the new support stand and Ryan's comprehensive work on the ducting system underneath the house. They were each professional, friendly, and courteous and made absolutely sure that I was pleased with their work. A week later, I called Air Conditioning Specialists to request that they make a few adjustments to my system and Arrick and Rocky came the following morning and installed my Nest Thermostat, made some air flow adjustments, fixed the humidity level issue, and performed some final cosmetic repairs in the crawlspace. I am completely satisfied with Air Conditioning Specials and had a great experience from beginning to end. I would definitely hire this company again and was absolutely impressed by the teamwork and pride that they took in their work and placing the customer's satisfaction as their top priority. One week later, the city inspector came out to independently check the system installation and specifically commented that he has noted that Air Conditioning Specialists always does top-notch work and has never found any issue with their work. This checks with my observations, and I highly recommend this company to anyone seeking a quality heating/cooling system.
