I was impressed with Scott, our salesman. That was one reason I went with them. I liked the reputation of the company and the warranty that came with the system. They arrived at the time they said and began work. One worker stayed outside making all the duct work while two of the crew went to my attic and removed all the old system. Rick did all the outside work of the line set, placing the new unit and hooking it all up. The cover on the line set is just gutter, but it covers it nicely. I was impressed with their work and they were done in about 8 hours. The only problem I had was with the after installation checkup I was promised. About a month after install I called and asked about the checkup and was told they had been busy due the extreme heat at the time. I gave it a few more days and called back and finally had an appointment for the checkup. When the man came for the checkup he didn't understand why it took so long and apologized for the delay, he was very sincere. The next day I got a call from the owner and he apologized and promised to look into it.

Excellent. Job took only seven hours. Installers were professional, clean and effecicient. They worked non stop and had very extensive knowledge of the system they were installing.

Although this is not a positive review, I was favorably impressed with the employees that accomplished the manual labor portion of the job. They were courteous, answered all my questions, arrived on time, and appeared competent. I have to say "appear," as this was a generator purchase, and I have yet to experience a power outage. My concerns centered upon the office staff. It began with a call from the Air Conditioning Specialists(ACS) setting an appointment to have the gas meter upgraded. At the end of the appointment date no gas company representatives had presented themselves. I contacted ACS and received no satisfactory answer regarding the no-show. A call to the gas company revealed, according to them, no appointment had been made. A second appointment problem occurred several days later when I was not advised that a city inspection had been scheduled. One of the problems listed on the inspection ticket could have been easily clarified had I been home. This leads to a third error. The inspection ticket also noted lack of an elevation certificate. When I hired a surveyor, he stated his belief the city would require this. I checked with the representative from ACS, and was assured only a site survey was needed. This turned out to be incorrect. ACS contacted me to discuss this additional requirement, and appeared unconcerned when reminded this error was due to his information. He stated cities keep changing their rules. Due to this mistake, I was required to pay $300 for a second survey. This also resulted in additional time being consumed in waiting for the survey and a second city inspection. After inspections passed, I received a call from ACS wanting to set an appointment to drop off follow-up work and collect the balance of the bill. I responded I was in no rush to pay as the generator had not been activated and was, in essence, useless. This seemed to surprise my caller, who shifted me to another person for an activation appointment. My appointment time came and went with no ACS employees in sight. A telephone call from ACS revealed an emergency had come up and technicians were running late. I was assured they could come by after this job was completed. As I had already shifted my schedule to accommodate the time set, I declined. More time consumption occurred with the new appointment 5 days later On September 10, almost two months after hiring this company, the job was completed. A few days later, ACS telephoned requesting an appointment to bring additional paperwork and the original elevation certificate to my home. I requested this be mailed, and the caller agreed. Two weeks later, I had not received the promised information. Upon inquiring, I was informed all was mailed the day before. I noted two weeks appeared to be a lengthy time to mail forms that were readily available. Other examples of confusion, lack of follow through, and knowledge gaps could be offered, but I believe the point has been made. I hired this company primarily based on ratings from Angie's List, and am still amazed at the difference in my experience and so many wonderful comments made by other customers. I was looking for a company to handle my heating and air conditioning needs, but after my experience, the search continues.

The experience was good. Personnel were on time, neat and skilled. An electrical problem arose; staff conferred; a solution was crafted. We, the clients, are pleased.

They did a lot of stuff and did not even charge me for a lot of the stuff they did. Air Conditioning Specialists made other recommendation that we probably need to get done in the future.

I will use them again in the future if needed.

The installation went very smoothly. Installation took one day, and hookup to the furnace took another day.

This is the second time I have had Air Conditioning Specialists come out and perform work on my A/C, and I have nothing put positive reviews. From calling the company to make appointments, to Chris K. coming out and giving us a fair estimate, to Mike, Phil, and Kevin installing our ductwork, everything was done in a professional, efficient, high quality manner. Our house is 1400 square feet and our ductwork was 15-20 years old. After looking at three companies I determined Air Conditioning Specialists to have the most competitive price along with the greatest attention to customer service. The whole job was completed in just over 6 hours, and all three guys worked the entire time. Every guy took time to explain what stage of the process they traveled to and from the attic, and kept me informed on any problems they encountered. After the work was complete, Mike took me through the attic and showed me where they installed the dampers for the unit along with how to operate them to control flow upstairs and downstairs. Overall I am very pleased with the finished product and know if I tried to install the ductwork myself, I could not have come close the keen attention to detail they provided. Called Air Condition Specialists on a Sunday afternoon about my unit not working. Was called back with a status report from Mrs. Smith the owners wife. Repairman arrived and fixed the problem in less than 5 hours after placing the call on a very hot Sunday!! Could not expect nor get better service.!! More than well pleased.

Awesome. They arrive on time and take care to protect the inside of my home with a mat at the door and booties for their shoes. They are friendly and professional. They get right to work and answer all my questions. The new units were up and running and the specifics of each system was explained and I was shown how to use the thermostat. In addition, they did a checkup a week or so later and go over the thermostat again because there is a lot to learn. I see them every 6 months to do a preventive maintenance cleaning of the system. I never dread when they are coming to my home like I do with some workers. Mike and Josh are the best and I consider them friends after all these years. The girls in the office are so nice and helpful.

This was my time using Angie's List. My tenant called and said one of the airconditioning units was making noises. I figured this would be big bucks and I have not had luck with any contractors I have hired. So, when I got this call I went ahead and joined Angie's List. First job, the joining fee has aleady been paid for! Soon as I joined I picked the top rated AC company on Angie's List in the Hampton Roads/Norfolk area, AC Specialists. From the first call they were friendly, efficient, prompt and handled all of the communications with my tenant to schedule the inspection and repair. Four hours later the job was done, the tech called me to describe the repair, and that he had retested the system with the tenant, and all was good. I later called the tenant and they were perfectly happy with the speed and efficiency of the repair. Well done, I will definitely use AC Specialist again, recommend them to others, and consider starting up routine AC/Heating maintenacne with them.

- Wonderful! My wife and I had our house built the winter of '76-'77, moving in during March 77. Original system was a disaster and was eventually replaces after the civic league won a class action suit against the builder. Had nothing but problems with various companies ever since, including one company who's tech said the system was in great shape during a fall inspection, only to have it fail the following week. He wanted to sell us a new compressor, but we called the owner and had him verify that it only needed a charge. Other problems created by techs from various companies are too numerous to mention. - Performed substantial research last spring on a new system. Invariably, most of the many reviews on different systems stated time and time again, that the problems they had with new systems involved improper or very poor installation. The good reviews all seemed to praise the installers irrespective of the brand of system. So, I forgot about trying to figure out what system was the best performer and best value and started on getting bids from local contractors who had excellent reviews in Angie's List. My wife and I finally selected Air Conditioner Specialists. - They arrived early the morning of 3 May 2011, knowing before hand that we were scheduled to depart for Italy that night. Our house is a one-story ranch with enough angle on the roof to be able to stand up in the attic. Access to the attic is in the two-car garage on one end of the house. The legacy air handler was at the other end of the attic. The installation team immediately decided to redesign the entire system in the attic, locating the new air handler in the center and rearranging the ducting accordingly. That meant they had to bring on an additional installation team to help with the removal of legacy material and creating a new foundation for the new air handler. While that was going on, they were busy removing the old compressor module at the back of the house, including the old foundation, and replacing it with a new foundation and the Trane 16 XLi. All of the piping and insulation was also changed. Their teams also said the legacy condensate drainage system was not proper and installed a completely new dual-drain system. Somehow they managed to get all of this done with a successful initial system test by 6:30 that night. In spite of all the "on-the-fly" design changes and doubling of the installation crew, there was never any mention of additional cost! - Subsequent to the initial installation, we experienced a series of quality assurance inspections. Those inspections ultimately, at their suggestion, resulted in four more ceiling outlets, and an additional small inlet duct to balance out the inlet/outlet pressures and flow throughout the house. Once again, there was never any mention of any additional cost. - They also provided a new thermostat with training on how to operate and tailor its configuration. - We have not had any difficultly with the system whatsoever since it was installed ten months ago. - All of their personnel from the salesman, installers, QA inspectors, and office staff were great to work with. They are by far the most exceptional contractor team we have worked with since we had the house built 35 years ago. And I say that as a retired Naval engineer.

They are probably the best service company I have ever had. They are an awesome company. They have sent out about 10-12 different men over the past year to service our A/C and they are all professional. They always put slippers over their feet even when you tell them they don't need to. They are just the best company I have ever worked with. I am 70 years old and you just expect bad service, but they are the best. I even had good financing with them. I have recommended them to all my friends.

Impressed with the crew of 3 young men. Arrived on time and got right down to it. About half way thru the install I noticed the model number of the outside unit seemed off. Reviewed my paperwork and it was the wrong unit. Alerted the lead tech and with one phone call the correct unit was on it's way. Work resumed elsewhere. Unit arrived and was installed and by 5 that evening it was up and operating. Guys cleaned up as advertised and made sure all was well. The next day the QA guy stopped by to verify the settings/operational status of the system. He found a problem with the outside unit, made a phone call, left to get the part and replaced the failed TSV valve. It would seem that if anything could have gone wrong with this installation it did. The manner in which this team handled the challenges says volumes about their individual and collective professionalism. It is one thing to "Please" the customer it is yet another to exhibit the professionalism and pride of doing an "Exceptional Job". A Job Well Done!

This company has been great to work with. They were very thorough when they provided us with an estimate. They went over all of the different types of units available. After a few days, we decided to use this company. They came out on a Friday to install the unit. They taught us how to use the programmable thermostat. We used to never be able to change the air filter that was located in the ceiling. It was screwed directly into the ceiling. Other companies said that they couldn't fix it. The Air Conditioning Specialists put a smaller one up there, and we can now change the filter ourselves. After they installed the unit, they sent a quality control technician to see if we were satisfied and to answer any questions that we had. The original salesman the came over to discuss the warranty with us. One day, I heard a rattling noise in our system. I called them and someone came over within a few hours. He checked the system and said that everything was fine. He told me what he thought caused the sound. I was very pleased with all 4 experiences that they came to my house. They were also very helpful when I called them to get my questions answered.

Contacted AC Specialists after our ac stopped working. Came out the same day. Very courteous and professional. Diagnosed the problem and made immediate repair. Ac was working again in no time! Great service.

Our A/C went out when the temp was over 100 degrees outside. After interviewing multiple local companies, A/C specialists won our business. Some companies didn't look over our ductwork or fully inspect our system; A/C specialists did and "threw in" a bunch of "freebies" since we had such a big job. They gave us an extra air intake, replaced the vent cover for our old intake, and replaced a couple of fluid lines that other companies would only have flushed. AND their quote was about $1000 less than any other company! Our salesman, Scott, was wonderful, informative and explained issues so that we could understand them. They originally told us that they couldn't replace our system for a week, but then they had a cancellation and were able to fit us in within 3 or 4 days. The crew that actually did the work was professional, clean, and well-groomed. Everyone (even the salesman) wore shoe covers whenever they came into the house and covered our floors when they had to work inside. They left our house spic and span after 2 days of work! Then about a week later an inspector came from the company to make sure we understood how to use the fancy programmable thermostat and to check the airflow and work that the team had done. No corrections needed; they did a perfect job the first time! The company will also send someone back out if you discover later that one room gets colder than another (which is just a factor of room size) and will re-direct the airflow to make the whole house more comfortable. We could not be happier with our system. Apparently Trane had implemented a checklist for installation companies a few years back to insure that the systems were being installed properly, but then stopped requiring the companies to follow it because it was so rigorous. A/C Specialists still use this checklist and even added a few items to make sure they were performing to the highest quality every time. Wow! This company went above and beyond all expectations and we would not hesitate to give them our highest recommendation!

A very nice gentleman came out on Saturday and did a detailed inspection and confirmed what we already had been told. The water tank was leaking and needed replacing. Since the other one was installed at the same time, previously, we agreed to rplacing both tanks. he gave us a very good price for the overall price and applied the $100.00 service/inspection visit to the quoted price. They called me after the weekend and set the appointment up for Thursday afternoon. They called ahead and was there on time. They did a very good job and cleaned up everything. They went over the use of the tanks and suggested a service plan which I am going to do with them.

Had the AC unit stop working on Saturday night. Found Air Conditioning Specialists on Angies List Sunday morning and called. They explained that the visit was overtime so would be extra on Sunday. We were OK with the price and asked them to send a technician out. Jim, our technician, arrived 20 minutes later. He quickly found the problem (a faulty switch) and quickly had it repaired. He charged us $55 for the repair, and the coupon we printed from Angie's List saved us money on the service call (thanks Angie's List!). The remainder of the $220 was spent on a much needed maintenance program. Overall, we found ACS to be responsive to our needs, and the technician was friendly and professional. We would definitely recommend ACS to others.

Temperature 100 degrees - Heat index 120 degrees - AC unit stops functioning - I checked Angie's List at 2 AM and found that Air Conditioning Specialists had received favorable ratings so I gave them a call. When I called they were very nice but they indicated all of their technicians were booked for the day, but they did have some availability on their after hours schedule. They were up front and said it would be at an overtime rate. With no luck from other companies I booked the appointment. Mike called me a little before 6 PM and said he was on the way. Mike was very professional. He quickly evaluated the problem and within a short time the system was operational. Mike also looked at my upstairs unit which had a clog in the condensation line. He tried a quick fix that did not work. He indicated he could fix it but at the overtime rate it would be expensive. With his suggestions I opted not to have him fix it at this time. After he left I was able to get the clog out. Mike is a great guy. My two kids and I are grateful for the quick professional service. I would definitely use Mike and Air Conditioning Specialists again.
