Universal Heating did an excellent job. They were prompt in getting me their quote and responsive to questions. When they came to install the equipment they were punctual and did a great job!

The work itself was excellent. It was just what transpired afterward that I am a bit upset about. There was another job that I needed done around the same time and I decided to go with someone else. I'm not sure if this made them angry, but they have been ignoring me ever since. I have called and left messages and also emailed him and never received anything back. I even left messages with the receptionist who told me she would have them call me back. Again, the work he did while he was here was great. I'm just upset that they refuse to return any of my messages.

Tech arrived on time and checked the furnace and outside AC unit. All in order except that the unit was down one pound of coolant. Service call was $120 and coolant was $75. I also asked for a service contract that runs $185 a year and covers two visits. Was told that the $120 would be subtracted from the $185 if we sign up this fall.

My atticair conditioner had overflowed once before and the repairman said the line was blocked and blew out the blockage. The very next day, there was water in the pan again, which have overflowed had I not caught the problem again. Unversal found a second blockage. Not only did they remove the blockage, they installed a sensor to detect any future problems, which will cut off the air conditioner before the pan overflows again.Excellent service and I will definitely use this company for any future needs.

I met with Steffen about replacing my air handler and ac unit. He was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable of his craft. I received a fair estimate from the start - which eliminated the need to haggle over the price of the job. My experience with everyone (from Kimberly the receptionist to the two man crew that performed the installation) was awesome. The job was scheduled shortly after I received the estimate, and it was completed in one day. I would highly recommend this company, and I would definitely use them again in the future. I took the morning off work to be there when the plumber came out. the company came out to look at the work that needed to be done and promised an estimate in a couple of days.well it as been a week now and 2 phone calls later and still no estimate. A courtousy call to let me know they were not interested would have been nice.

I called Universal's office on the morning of May 2, and the person I spoke with said a service person could be at my house within the next hour or two, but I scheduled for the afternoon. The person I spoke with in the office was very friendly and professional and was willing to work within my schedule. John arrived in early afternoon, and even before looking at the unit, he knew what the problem was when told about the humming of the unit, and the fan not coming on when in AC or heat mode. John had a dual run capacitor in his truck and replaced the faulty one. He also inspected the coils in the unit, and then did a check of the inside system as well. He took the temperature of the returning air to make sure it was cooling properly. John was knowledgeable, courteous, and professional and took time to explain to me the purpose of the dual run capacitor. I was also happy that he checked both the outside and inside units to make sure they were in good running order. I will use Universal in the future for any HVAC or plumping problems we have. Also, this was my first time using Angie's List (since being a member for over 2 years), and I will certainly use this again. I mentioned to my mother about having to call for repair for the system and being unsure of who to call at first. Before I could finish telling her, the first thing out of her mouth was "did you call Angie's List?" I laughed, because she didn't even realize I was a member. I said that I was a member and looked up the info online about who to use from Angie's List and was very satisfied. Those TV ads for Angie's List really stuck with her!

They were really good, and their service was awesome. They were prompt. They did understand what they were doing. Usually, a lot of heating and AC contractors are just fly-by-night, but these guys were a little more in terms of what I wanted. Their price was cheap.

John was knowledgeable and completely professional. (He even wore 'booties' in my house and had his own pad/floor covering for my carpeted 3rd floor where he was working.) Amazingly, he turned another unexpected and expensive coil replacement into a "not so bad" experience. Universal is the only HVAC company I will be using from now on.

The service provider asked what the problem was and after showing him where the furnace was he asked that I turn it on and crank it up. I left him to do his job. The next time I saw him (about 5 minute) he said the hot surface igniter in the furnace was bad and needed replacing. He went to his truck, got a new igniter and had it replaced and running in another 10 minutes. He gave me the warranty information with the receipt. Remember to inform the office when you or they call that you are an Angies List member in case there are deals to be had.

John came in and fixed our problem. We now have a filter inside the unit with a grill that slides out so we can change the filter easily! Affordable

Extremely pleased with the service. The technician was personable, knowledgeable and did not attempt to upsell any services. He identified the issue, showed the broken part, provided the cost to repair, and got my agreement on replacing the part prior to performing the repair. The repair was completed in a timely manner and checked the issue was resolved prior to leaving. In addition to the service appointment, my initial call to schedule an appointment was answered (cannot say the same for the other companies that I called) and they were able to schedule an appointment within 2 days (again, cannot say the same for the other companies that I contacted). When the appointment was scheduled, they told me when I could expect the technician to arrive and they arrived when expected. The pricing seemed reasonable for the services performed, especially when comparing to HVAC services other companies have provided in the past. Overall, a good experience and company I would refer to others.

We had a burning/smokey smell coming out of our heating unit this morning. We called the Universal Emergency Service number and left a message. Within 20 minutes we received a call back from Steffen. After discussing over the phone he promptly headed over to our house, was there within the hour. Steffen was very professional and friendly, immediately went under the house and identified that the fan motor was burning out. He was able to replace it immediately. Additionally we have been looking for a service provider for a while, so Steffen was able to sign us up immediately plus give us the 10% service discount on the work just performed.In reviewing the units for the service I explained a problem we have been having that has never been fixed after a number of visits from other providers. He indicated he knew what the problem was, walked me through it, and identified that it would be fixed as part of the next service visit, inclusive in the cost of the service plan. All-in-all a very positive experience.

Universal Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing installed a new, high efficiency gas boiler and passive hot water system for us in 2010. We were very happy about the quality of the boiler and hot water tank, and we were satisfied with their installation. We would have been happier if they had discussed the installation with us a little more thoroughly so we would have been prepared to see two large and very white PVC pipes emerge from the brick wall, but overall we were happy with their work. We did have to call them several times for water leaks from the boiler. They were very courteous on the phone and came out promptly (within the day, and sometimes within an hour or so). They were able to “unstick” whatever part was sticking and causing the small leaks the first few times we called, but had to replace a part on the 4th service call. Unfortunately, we were just out of warranty, so the part cost us $100, which we weren’t expecting, but probably should have been. The short story is that we are satisfied with their prices and service. We are more than happy with their quick response time, and we have a service agreement with them for the equipment they installed. I will certainly call them for any other HVAC work that might come up.

After reading the positive reviews on Angies list, I contacted Universal Heating & Plumbing to obtain a quote for replacing both upstairs and downstairs heating/air-conditioner units. An appointment was scheduled for the next morning, Steffen came to the house to assess our needs, and emailed his proposal that afternoon. I evaluated proposals from several companies, but the decision was easy: Steffen was knowledgeable about his trade, offered good suggestions, spoke respectfully of his employees, and seemed genuinely interested in offering quality service. The installers, Russ and Scott, were professional in all respects. They arrived promptly each morning and worked diligently throughout the day. They put ground cloths down wherever they were working in the house and were respectful of my home and property. I requested a couple of changes (to replace the downstairs return flex pipe & install different thermostats), both of which were readily accommodated. This company was professional from start to finish. They provided a quality product and excellent workmanship at a reasonable price. I would not hesitate to recommend Universal Heating & Plumbing to family or friends.

Spoke with the receptionist Monday, to set an appointment for Wednesday for an estimate to remove the current oil furnace and AC and replace with a heat pump system. On Wednesday morning received a call stating that the company "prefers not to do jobs involving a lot of duct work" at this time of year. After explaining that there is minimum duct work required, the representative still did not seem interested in our business. We found this to be unprofessional in the extreme.

They replaced our corroding (but not yet terminal) water heater on a nonemergent basis, and put in a new garbage disposal. They were excellent from start to finish; contacting them, discussing our needs, answering all questions. Their estimates were spot on and the prices very reasonable. The phone call before the home estimate was very thorough and they answered all of my questions about warranties, etc. We had used them a few years before to replace our central a/c, and this was on an emergent basis. We initially found them on Angie's list and we could not be happier. We got an estimate within one half hour of their arrival (other companies were much less professional). The man who came out discussed all options and was very forthcoming about upcoming changes in home cooling. They always arrive exactly on time, their work is quick, and they always clean up after themselves completely.

It went great. Russell and Scott arrived on time and worked all day completing the installation. Connection of the thermostat required a little extra unplanned work running an electric line to the outside unit through an attic knee wall. Despite the last minute strategizing, the work was done well and completed before the end of the day, with the system up and running perfecting before they left. Russell and Scott kept the home clean throughout installation and did a great job fitting the new outside unit inside my existing enclosure. The new Rheem heat pump is very quiet compared to the old York, just as advertised. I'm pleased I made the decision to replace the outside York unit despite having only a leaking interior coil. The York system was 13 years old and the new Rheem is clearly superior.

Our ancient central A/C unit failed in the fall of 2010 and we knew our furnace wasn't doing great either. I contacted Universal after reading their overwhelmingly positive reviews here, but was more impressed by how Steffen Meade handled a negative review - directly and fairly. Steffen came out and examined our situation, including actually getting in to our tiny crawl space to check out our situation. Reps from two other companies barely even looked under there. After a couple rounds of quotes via email, we settled on a week for his team to do the work. Steffen was more than willing to answer any questions I had. His team spent that week replacing all the old ductwork, furnace, and A/C, much of the work done in our claustrophobic crawlspace. They were all decent guys and worked really hard. They put in a new central air return and came back months later to finish it off after I finally got around to doing the drywall and paint around it. The new system is great, much more efficient than before. I doubt I'll have to replace anything soon, but I wouldn't hesitate to call Steffen if I did.

On Monday evening I noticed a strange sound coming from my outside compressor and the whole unit shut off. My 70 year old mother stays with me and she uses oxygen so AC is a necessity not a luxury secondary to her health. I called and left a message with a company recommended by my neighbor but they would not be able to come until Wednesday (this company is also on Angie's List with excellent ratings but were just too busy today). I came back to Angie's List and researched other companies. Based on the extremely favorable responses I chose Universal Heating and Plumbing as my next contact. I called Kim at 8 a.m. and explained the situation. She said someone would be able to come today when they were free. I was thinking they would not be able to come until the afternoon so I made arrangements to have my mother stay somewhere else where she could be more comfortable. I was pleasantly shocked when Kim called at about 10 a.m. and said Stefan would be there in 5 or 10 minutes. He arrived and within 30 minutes my AC was up and running again. I would definitely recommend Universal to anyone and will be using them again in the future. It is always a pleasure to deal with a company with such wonderful customer service.

Our A/C stopped working on our upstairs unit. Called Universal on 5/12/11. They came out on 5/13/11. Our house is at the age when everything needs to be replaced (or so it seems). Of course we were trying to figure out how a new heat pump would fit into our budget. John (the tech) checked out the system, provided routine maintenance and found the problem. Replaced a part in the heat pump and had the system working again. We also had a rattle in one of our ducts that drove us crazy, he found the problem immediately. He was extremely knowledgeable and very professional. Will definately use this company again!

The technicians arrived at the pre-established time. All of the work was performed in a timely and professional manner. They explained what they were planning to do and answered all of my questions. The installation was completed quickly and efficiently. Every effort was made to thoroughly clean the work area. All debris was removed along with the old water heaters. I would recommend this firm to any one. Based on my experience, I plan to use Universal for all future maintenance on my heating system. If plumbing problems arise, I will call them to repair.

Excellent. They initially installed our heat pump quite a few years ago. This most recent repair was probably due to the aging and normal wear and tear to our system. We have been very pleased with their service and responsiveness - they have always been responsive, helpful, and courteous. I would highly recommend for heating and cooling installation or repair.

As a newer home owner it can be a daunting experience when something major breaks down - like the AC Unit. The outside unit stopped working yesterday and of course the temp is supposed to be in the mid to high 90's today and tomorrow! I felt like a sitting duck if I called the wrong place as I know little to nothing about heating/AC issues. I am using Angie's list for the first time and picked Universal based on the positive feedback, length of time in business, and long term presence on Angie's list. When I called at 8:05 this morning, I was greeted by Kim and she immediately made me feel like I was a long time customer. She listened to my problem and said that Steffen would be out around 9:30. I didn't expect that I would get someone out here so soon! I received a call around 8:50 that he would be here in 30 minutes and he showed up on time. He also made me feel comfortable and I didn't even get a lecture about the air filter not being changed (which i am truly grateful for). After about 25 minutes or so he had the problem diagnosed, replaced the part, and was done. Efficient and friendly - but best of all, my house is no longer over 80 inside! I will recommend them to my friends and have already filled out a maintenance agreement with them for the heating and cooling system. Thank you Steffen and Kim for making us cool again, and earning trust in a not so familiar arena! ****************** Update Nov 2011 After having had the positive experience with Universal, I decided to purchase a maintenance contract for the year. Last week, they came out to check everything for the winter and I am SO GLAD I did! What could have been a costly problem down the road was caught in its infancy, and for under $100 was fixed - PLUS - I had everything cleaned out. As was the case the first time, they showed up on time and were extremely nice. So glad I decided to use them!

The guys arrived on time, were very responsive and courteous. They were very tolerant of my dogs that were trying to be helpfull. Told me the issues, fixed the problem, and cleaned up after themselves. This is the second time I have used them. Wouldn't use anyone else.
