Universal Heating Air Conditioning and Plumbing

I had hired Universal to replace the heat pump on my residence. When my son bought a house and renovated, we had agreed to replace the heat pump for him. Because my personal experience was so positive I contacted Universal Heating. They did a fabulous job not only installing the furnace/heat pump, but they reran & connected new ducts throughout the house. This has made such a difference in not only the comfort of the house, but also reduced the electrical bill. My son reported that they were quite professional and he is more than pleased with the work they did. Considering how difficult it must have been to replace some of the venting runs, it was an excellent experience. I would recommend this company.

Universal did a fantastic job. The blower motor went out on my downstairs unit at the worst possible non-weekend time. It was snowing with temperatures in the 20s, and the weekend was quickly approaching. Universal was the only company I spoke with who could perform the work that day. John came to my house within 2 hours of my call. He was very detailed and explained the issue, the remedy, and the costs to us. His professionalism was very impressive. We are completely satisfied, and Universal will be my first call for any future HVAC repairs.

Chip inspected all of my crawl-space copper piping and discovered that initial installation + soldering when my house was built was inadequate and faulty (done by another company, NOT by Universal). In fact, one of the copper pipe connections was never soldered at all. Chip fixed both leaks in a timely and professional manner (as usual...he has been at my house at least 3 times now). While he was there, Chip also installed foam rubber insulation around my two (2) HVAC units copper piping (between the exterior units and my crawl-space brick wall). As usual...timely and outstanding work by Universal!

I am not an expert so I have to assume that the fact that they seemed to diligently check everything means that they at least looked at all the parts and cleaned it well. Easy to schedule and to work with.

Outstanding...as are ALL my experiences with Universal so far...both for Plumbing and HVAC issues. Chip and Stanley called and asked to come early, which they did. Replaced the faulty kitchen faucet in only 20-25 minutes. (I had already purchased a new one, so no parts charge there.) Replaced a broken/worn part in the downstairs toilet (I had a new part on-hand) and repaired a second faulty part; all in about 20 minutes. Chip and Stanley also looked at my other three (3) toilets to make sure they were A-OK. They tried to repair (spread) the prongs on my upstairs shower grate, but diagnosed the problem as the wrong size grate having been installed during initial installation. (They are going to research the part ID for the correct grate and let me know what it is so that I can order and snap it into place myself.) They also, at my request, took a picture of my outside HVAC units to forward to their HVAC team so as to determine if more insulation is required for the coolant tubing (from the HVAC units to the house crawl-space), likely saving me the cost of a separate diagnosis visit from their HVAC team. Chip and Stanley were outstanding and professional in every way. Everything was cleaned up and it looks like they were never here!

Steffen and his team were fantastic. They installed a Mitsubishi mini split a/c in the kids bedroom over the garage. A bit complex drain and pipe routing due to location and Steffen's creativity led to a unique design with which we are very happy. I also had them service my two HVAC units while they were on this job, and Dave the "AC Man" did a thorough maintenance. I highly recommend Universal Heating and Plumbing. They were also prompt and responsive.

Great...prompt (called in the middle of a very hot week and they were able to come next day), professional service. Been working with them since they replaced one of my units in 2009. I would recommend.

Serviceman arrived as promised, quickly identified and resolved AC unit drain problem, cleaned, tested, and recharged unit as needed. Cleaned and tested other unit as no recharge was needed on that one. Universal provided excellent, on time and reasonable cost service as they have in the past.

I have been very happy with them. They have even managed to keep my original AC unit from 1979! They call it "The Dinosaur"!

Excellent. Called yesterday and they were able to fit me in next day (today) because of a cancellation. Showed up on time (actually 5-10 minutes early), cleaned and serviced my two (2) HVAC units and discovered a small leak in my downstairs unit (the one that wasn't cooling at 100%). Added a small amount of coolant to that system and was done with everything in less than two (2) hours. Wore booties in my house (much appreciated), cleaned up everything ("as new") and did a super job...with no time wasted. My service guy, Dave P, was outstanding! This is the 3rd time I have used Universal and they are the only HVAC company I plan on using in the future. Fair price, prompt response, timely service and excellent work. Again, Dave P was outstanding (as was John D last time I used Universal).

Partially reluctant they would have time on schedule because a small local company. However, I found them to be very responsive and stayed on the job until complete. Very friendly throughout service starting at my call to the office. Gave me an "on the way call" so I could leave work and meet the Technian at my home. Service Tech was very friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to provide advice and tips for better operation of my equipment. He easily identified the problem (fan bearings had failed and seized up), ordered the part (smaller than normal motor which he didn't have on his truck), and scheduled for next day installation when part arrived. Repaired and fully charged unit and checked condition of second unit. I had a great experience working with this small minority owned local business. I will use them again and recommend them to others.

Very professional, very thorough. I didn’t end up going with them, but I would absolutely highly recommend Universal. Price is competitive. I didn’t select them for my work. It was a tough decision

We had a terrible experience. They came out and worked on the unit, a few days later it went back out. This time the owner came out and worked on it. I paid for them to install parts only to find out that it actually needs completely replaced. I really wish I could have my money back. I will not use them to replace my unit.

They did a great job of explaining the issue and keeping me informed. The technician was very diligent in digging for the root cause instead of treating a symptom, which I appreciated. The follow up was not as timely as I would have liked, but it was also just after a snowstorm.

Got an estimate from this company for a gas line install and never was able to have them do the work. Called the company several times and was told they would get back to me, never happened. Don't understand why a company would behave this way.

Company was great and I look forward to a long-term relationship.

I have been using Universal for almost 20 years. They are still the same folks doing the service and running the company. They are very responsive and produce great service at a fair price. I hope to maintain my business relationship with Universal for years to come.

On the surface things went well. The bottom toilet seems to be fixed. About 2 1/2 to 3 weeks after the service, I noticed a water stain on the first floor ceiling right below the upstairs commode. I went upstairs to check and the water was coming out of the bottom of the second floor commode. The commode never had a leaking problem prior to Universal showing up. I called Universal to report the issue. They promised they would have someone call me back the next day (first thing in the morning). Fast forward 6 days, Universal never called me back to discuss. I called Universal again. The person who received the call remembered my call and didn't seem all that put off the plumber never called me back. She did say she talked to the plumber and the plumber stated it has nothing to do with the work he did. He stated he just replaced the stopper. I replied "is it possible the workers disrupted something while replacing the stopper in either the tank or one of the outside seals" (there were two big guys in a small area, an apprentice and the plumber)? The reply was it is not possible, the plumber checks everything before he leaves. I countered with...."it was a small leak which is why it took me three weeks to notice the water damage on the first floor ceiling”. Is it possible the plumber did not see it (it was a pretty quick visit as all the work was done and Universal was gone inside of 30 minutes)? Universal offered to have the plumber come out, in about a week (very busy) and it would probably cost me given there is really no way to prove it is their fault. Universal's parting words to me were "toilets go bad all of the time". I have three toilets in the house and none of them have leaked in the 8 + years that I have owned the house. I find it way too coincidental that a toilet that NEVER LEAKED all of a sudden started leaking after Universal paid me a house call. I will now call another plumber to fix the leak and never give Universal my business again.

*Technician was friendly, knowledgeable and completed the job in a timely manner. *Price quoted for evaporator coil replacement was reasonable. *Office staff was courteous and professional. Communication of price and scheduling was clear and concise - no surprises later on. I was notified in advance before the technician arrived. This appears to be a very honest company, easy to deal with and reasonable. I was not pressured to buy anything. I was impressed with everything about this company and purchased the maintenance agreement on my two systems. They offer a 10% discount on parts and service on any work performed while under the agreement.

Switched to this company for heating/cooling maintenance after they installed a mini-split system in our Florida room. Excellent work.

I called Universal to get an estimate to install gas piping from the meter throughout the house. They were very responsive in sending a knowledgeable rep to look over the project and were prompt in emailing an estimate. The email stated to let them know if I had questions. I did have a few questions and responded back to them. They said their rep was tied up on an emergency job, but would get back with me in a week or so. He didn't get back with me after waiting a month, so I went with a different contractor.

Steffan was professional and made me feel at ease about the work being done. He had to do some piece by piece wall demolition to get to the leaky pipe. He had to go all over the house to make sure heat was working after his repairs and was patient with the obstacles in his way. I also really appreciate him explaining everything.

Outstanding! Stefan spent a great deal of time going over the project on the front end; lots of measurements, suggestions, etc. Prompt proposal and competitive pricing. Russell and Scott showed up on time and completed the project early. Very hard workers. Competent, neat and proficient. Look no further than this Company if you need heating, air conditioning or plumbing services!

Despite my efforts (leaving water dripping, etc) to prevent any pipes bursting during the extreme freezing spell we had in February, I like a lot of other folks on the same day, had a pipe burst (in the crawlspace under my kitchen). I am new to home-owning and asked a neighbor/friend who for a plumber referral. She gave me Universal/Steffen's name & number, saying both she and her neighbor/friend had had three very good experiences with the company. I called Universal and Steffen himself came a few hours later to fix the pipe. He was fast (total time working was about 15 minutes), efficient, thorough, and polite. I recommend them/him highly.

He helped me avoid an expensive "fix" that may not have solved my problem. Great service and honesty. I will invite him back for my next plumbing challenge.
