Kitchen Doctors replaced my kitchen counter tops. Everything about this transaction, from the first contact to the clean-up by the installation crew, was perfect. They arrived on time to my house to take the measurements and provide a quote. The tops arrived in the time frame they expected and were installed promptly. The installation crew was knowledgeable and hard working. They cleaned up after themselves before they left. I would definitely recommend Kitchen Doctors.

Work was done on time, within budget and professionally finished. Jim, of Kitchen Doctors, was quite professional, helpful and easy to get along with. Couple of minor additions on my part caused no problems and were handled quickly and completely. Workers were polite, skilled and pleasant to have in my home. I encountered no problems and was quite happy with the total process.

Jim and his team were very easy to work with, very personable and professional. The kitchen counter was, unfortunately, delivered with the wrong edging. Jim immediately took corrective action to replace the counter. When the replacement counter was available the work proceeded on schedule. The new counter, back splash, and flooring make a significant improvement in the appearance of the kitchen. In addition to installing the new microwave, Jim vented it to the outside with a very nice looking external vent. The rest of the re-installation work went very well except for the Kohler faucet that I had purchased. When removed from the box there was a component missing. Jim immediately contacted Kohler to see if the part could be made available. It was supposed to be sent overnight express. When it did not arrive Jim suggested that I take the faucet back to Lowe's and get another one. I purchased the Moen faucet. He came the next day and installed it for me. Even with these challenges there was no increase in the contracted price. As I indicated he and his team were very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. The completed kitchen looks great and we are very proud of the work they did.
Description of Work: Supplied and replaced kitchen counters and customer provided ceramic tile back splash and kitchen luxury vinyl tile flooring. Installed new customer provided Whirlpool range, microwave, and dishwasher, as well as a Kohler sink and a Kohler/Moen faucet.

Jim was the only contractor (and I had interviewed a few) who came, listened, asked questions and worked with us to give us the kitchen layout that worked best for us. We were able to plan for the least amount of "down time", and kept that time frame. We had some requests to move a couple of things and add a few things here and there and he was prompt in accommodating our requests.
Description of Work: Tear down old cabinets, and pantry. Install new cabinets, fix pantry wall and build knee wall for new place of kitchen sink. After every other contractor was done (electrician, plumber, tile installer) they came and put the finishing touches (floor trim, etc.)

Jim did a stellar job. I think what impresses me the most is he really worked hard to stay in our price range. Lots of solid ideas and suggestions on how to reduce costs and what to focus on for our remodeling job. The end result is fantastic and far exceeded our expectations. Will definitely use Kitchen Doctors again.

Details are above. We are so happy that we found Kitchen Doctors to do this project for us. The entire project took about 6 weeks from demolition to reconstruction. Jim co-ordinated all the subcontractors: taking down wall, new floor, plumber, electrician, granite, backsplash.... as well as installing all the cabinets and building the new island. Everyone was there on the required day to keep the project moving forward. We highly recommend Kitchen Doctors. The cabinets were about $20,000.00 but the entire project was about $50,000.
Description of Work: We remodeled our kitchen. Kitchen Doctors was our main contractor. We took down a wall between our kitchen and dining room and made the entire space a new kitchen. Jim, Kitchen Doctors, helped us design the lay out of the new space. He ordered &installed the new cabinets, built a new island, and coordinated the plumber, electrician, granite , backsplash, floor guy and taking down the wall. Jim Sheehan, Kitchen Doctors, was fantastic.

It went fantastic! Jim was just terrific to work with. He came by and listened to what we wanted and made an appointment to come back with the estimate. In the meantime, we had changed our minds about the scope of the project. When he came to give the estimate for the original request, we asked for something different instead. Jim immediately starting measuring and giving us his vision for how our new plan could work. We were very impressed with his ability to "see" how things could be. And we were very pleased with his willingness to rework the plan on the fly and not seem irritated about it. As far as the workmanship, it is excellent. He and his helper were prompt and got right down to business on day 1. He was accessible all during the project and promptly returned phone calls if he was unable to answer right away. The whole experience was excellent and we would highly recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Removed all existing kitchen cabinets and took out a pantry closet to make room for additional cabinetry and a bar area on the half wall between the kitchen and great room. Repaired drywall in the pantry area and installed all new cabinets and toe kick. After granite was installed, came back to hook up the sink and dishwasher.

Jim Shanahan did an outstanding job refacing our kitchen cabinets. His price was significantly lower than Home Depot and Lowe's contractors and he finished the job on time and on budget. The materials used were first class and the workmanship was just as good. Between the time we agreed on a price and starting the job he followed up to ensure that we were all on the same page. He and his helper arrived on time and took great care when removing the old faces and sanding down the cabinets before installation of the doors and veneers. The molding he used was a great choice and enhanced the overall project. Finally , he returned a week later to install pulls that were on back order and took care of a few minor imperfections (mostly dried glue not visible until after it fully dried). I have no problem with recommending him to anyone contemplating this type of work.

Mr Sheehan came in and gave me a great estimate for my cabinet refacing and all of the materials involved and the estimated time that the project would take. I was so excited! Then everything broke at once! My refridgerator condensor went out, my dishwasher decided it no longer wanted to do the dishes and my garbage disposal started to leak. There went my redecorating money. I called him to let him know what had happened and once I get my redecorating budget monies up again that I would call him to do the job. I am so disappointed.

Everything went smoothly. Jim is very calm and handles things. He let us know what was needed and he was there when he needed to be. We were very pleased with the quality of work and the cherry cabinets are beautiful!
Description of Work: Jim helped us design a kitchen from start to finish. He completely ripped out the old one, including some inner walls, heavy tile floor. and cabinets. He served as our General Contractor to arrange the new wood floors, painting the walls, and installation of new cabinets and granite countertops. He did a lot of the work himself along with Rob, who knows how to do anything. We were mostly finished in 4 weeks plus a few days for the painter to come back. They did an excellent job. So did John, who installed the floor. We love our kitchen and would recommend Jim to anyone.

I purchased a new slide in oven from Sears that was replacing a drop in. This required some modification/cutting of the counter top and baseboard. When Sears came to install the oven they wanted to charge $360 and said there was no way to install it without damaging the Formica counter top. I was not at all comfortable having them do the work and told them to just deliver it and I would have someone else do the installation. I called Kitchen Doctors and left a message detailing what I needed done. I received a call back very quickly and was told that they may have a reschedule for tomorrow, and if so could come out and complete the work that day. About two hours later they contacted me and said they did have a reschedule and could do my job tomorrow in the afternoon. They came out and did a fantastic job installing the oven and charged me only $150.00 for the entire job. The quality of the work is first rate and they were quick and very personable in their interactions with me. I would recommend them to anyone and will use them again for any kind of cabinet and counter repair, or kitchen remodeling.

I really liked Jim right from the start. He's down-to-earth and straight talking. He brought up a lot of little things I wouldn't have known to think about (for example, when they take down the old splashback it will pull some of the drywall off, so you need to consider making the new splashback about an inch higher if you don't want to do a lot of prep work before painting). He gave us lots of options and spent a lot of time with us - I never felt rushed. He actually had to wait awhile for us to make sure we had the budget, but took the time to come back out, refresh himself on the project and make sure he had all the needed information. Professionalism is really subjective, and with the work my husband and I do, we're probably tough critics (and actually I know we're pretty demanding customers too and are probably a bit difficult!) There are only two reasons I didn't give them an "A" for professionalism. First: we gave Jim a $3K deposit in early July, and he let us know he wouldn't be able to start work until late August or early September. Having had a business doing contracting/construction work, my husband felt it was a long time to "float" our money, but we understood he needed to start purchasing the cabinet doors and drawers. It got to about the middle of August and I hadn't heard from him, so I called him one afternoon and he indicated he could start the following Tuesday. Which was fine, but my husband and I were trying to coordinate purchasing our appliances with the work Jim's team was doing so we could take advantage of his team installing the new appliances (much more cost effective than Best Buy) - that just mean we had to scramble a bit over that weekend to purchase our appliances, and we weren't sure they'd get deliver in time, but it ended up working out. Second: We also had a discrepancy between when Jim measured the countertops and told us what he thought would be the approximate cost of the counters - when the rep. from Classic Granite came out, he initially measure 11 sq. ft. more - which is a lot when the surface is $69 per sq. ft. Everyone seemed pretty blase about it, and it ended up it was only a 5 sq. ft. difference, but that really bothered my husband because it was an expensive mistake. (I have to say though, I never stopped chatting at Jim while he was working and he was too polite to tell me to be quiet so he could concentrate!) In general, I never felt like I had a "project plan" before we began and was a little uncertain about that (I can get pretty OCD about those kinds of things). But most small business owners simply don't have the time for that kind of thing, and once they got started they completely met my expectations on timing. They were always there when they said they would be, and I was very comfortable leaving them in the house when I had to leave for work. I also found that when I called Jim he was very responsive (calling his cell phone), but other forms of communication, e.g., email, office, didn't get me the same response - hence the "B" grade on that. Well, that and the fact I had to finally call him to get a start date on the project - I had to wonder, if I hadn't called would he have called me? I'm sure he would have at some point, but I just don't know if that expedited getting the project started. But I would say, if you need to talk to him, just call his cell phone. I found I was most satisfied with the work when Jim was on-site, or when Jim was doing the work. He puts in the extra effort and really, really pays attention to the details. I know he had to hassle with some of the plumbing under our kitchen sink, but he stuck with it, didn't try to charge us extra, and did a wonderful job. His team was really good, but there's nothing like having the business owner do the work. Jim told me they weren't done until we were satisfied, and he was absolutely right about that! He came back and did some "clean up" work, and adjusted some doors for me, and did a few other little things to make it "perfect." He noticed little things I didn't even see, and made them right. Things like where to place the hardware on the doors and drawers, and giving me great suggestions with reasons why. Again, he never acted like he was in a hurry, and the work is absolutely gorgeous. I'm so happy with the final results - everything is lovely, and I'm so glad for the recommendations he made - not to get the microwave over the oven (I'm short, so I would have been pulling hot food out over my head). I would highly recommend using him (his prices are incredibly competitive), and ask him any questions you might have - his experience is invaluable. I would also be happy to use Jim again to do work in my house. In the last several years my husband and i have done several large projects - had our deck refurbished and screened in, added a 6 ft. extension to our master bathroom with significant remodeling, and now the kitchen. Of all those projects, this one was by far the quickest, easiest, least frustrating, and had the highest quality results. I am very happy!
Description of Work: My husband and I wanted a new look in the kitchen, but didn't want to remodel. We considered cabinet replacement, refacing and "renewing." We knew we were going to change the overall look (color) of our wood cabinets, we wanted to see if we could enclose some open areas, we wanted a new countertop throughout, new sink, faucet and all new appliances, new lighting, etc. Pretty much everything but remodeling. Kitchen Doctor came in and talked through the project with us, making some great suggestions and recommendations. They ended up refacing our cabinets (which included veneer work, new doors and drawer fronts), coordinating the installation of all new Cambria countertops (done by Classic Granite), new sink and faucet (Jim from Kitchen Doctor did the plumbing work). They also hooked up the (existing) waterline for our new refrigerator and the (existing) gas for our new oven/range. They had to trim down the cabinets above the refrigerator so our new one would fit in the space. They took a "bar" area of countertop and constructed a cabinet with shelves under that (I had cheap, composite shelves there that looked awful). They also enclosed a desk/work area where we were keeping our trash and recyclables so we don't see that anymore. They quoted us to hook up the new dishwasher (and it was cheaper than the price initially quoted by Best Buy), but as it turned out the model of dishwasher we bought came with free installation, which was the only reason we didn't have Kitchen Doctor do that. I still need the burners adjusted on the oven/stove as the flames are SUPER high, but I think no matter who installed/hooked up I'd have to call Samsung to deal with that. They did a good job disconnecting and reconnecting the gas line, and they also did the plumbing for the new kitchen sink (which is fantastic - no leaks and a lot of hassle under the sink). We had Sears out prior to give us an estimate and there was no comparison. They were much more expensive and didn't have half the selection of wood, finishes, and countertop surfaces. We also looked at "renewing," and while that was WAY cheaper, we just didn't think it would give us the lasting results we wanted.

This went far better than we expected after hearing others' horror stories about their remodels. Jim kept us informed all along the way as to how everything was progressing. He answered all our questions and addressed all our concerns timely and very professionally. The crew always cleaned up after themselves every day and we were inconvenienced as little as possible for a very short time. Jim estimated a 3-week timeframe and it was done a little after that due to some issues with subcontractors' schedules. Jim coordinated every contractor and every part of the job so that there was virtually no downtime on the project. Somebody was at the house every day working. The floor is beautiful bamboo hardwood where it had been cracked ceramic tile, the cabinets are gorgeous natural maple where they had been a dark walnut (yuck), the black granite countertops are stunning and the island with all the storage and the ceramic cooktop is the centerpiece of the whole room. Removing the walls from the formal dining/living rooms and integrating the space as part of the kitchen was the best thing we could have done. We feel like we have a new house! It's been a year since the job was done, and we're still loving it.
Description of Work: We did a huge project to expand our usable living space around the kitchen, so we demolished walls, cabinets, floors, changed/added plumbing, electrical, appliances, lighting, the whole 9 yards. We met Jim Sheehan at a home show and had him come over and take a look at what we had. He had great ideas, and actually drew a plan for an island while we were talking. It helped so much to actually see where this project could go, and that drawing is what ultimately sold us. Photos of our kitchen are on Kitchen Doctors' website.

Was very helpful and spent a lot of time with us talking and helping us plan our kitchen as we suddenly had to remodel it and didn't even know where to start. Very knowledgable and thought of all the little details none of the other cabinet guys had even mentioned. The estimator was very professional and reliable. He was followed by someone to take the measurements and help match the color (it is a perfect match, by the way). All the materials were ordered and when they came in, they were installed with genuine skill. We were concerned at first by the way the drawers were sliding (an unexpected level of resistance), but they made things right, just like Jim said they would. I don't know how we could be happier with the craftsmanship, professionalism and skill of Kitchen Doctors. I would recommend them to anyone. They are also some of the nicest people you will meet.
Description of Work: They replaced all the cabinet doors and drawers (including all hardware) in our kitchen and master bathroom. We really liked our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, but they were all worn out. The drawers kept falling apart and the doors were severely worn through to the wood and would fall off. Rather than going through all the expense and trouble of replacing everything, we just had the doors and drawers replaced. We feel like this approach is not only less expensive, but it is better for the environment (less waste).

Fair. Plus: Cabinet doors are of good quality, are hung straight and strong. Bathrooms were done well and on time. Jim is responsive, energetic and does his own work (huge plus). Crew was also quite good. Negatives: Kitchen problems: Work order signed in June, job was supposed to occur over 2 weeks, finished in November. Problems included multiple mismeasurements/ wrong style ordered causing delays. Also drilling of inappropriate holes (wrong side/ none needed) during initial installation requiring re-ordering of new doors. Sawz-all cuts in cabinet faces went unrepaired. New base cabinet drawer installed without plastic bumpers resulting in deep gouges in new cabinet door.

Response from Kitchen Doctors
Dear Member, The initial design given to you at the time of the estimate can be modified or totally re-designed until you are completely satisfied. There are many options in Kitchen Remodeling and if the initial design is not to your liking then we would be happy to meet with you again to discuss changes you want to make, or to come up with a new design that you will love. Please contact us to schedule a follow-up appointment at your convenience. Sincerely, Kitchen Doctors Monica Sheehan 804-897-7982 (office) kitchendoctor@clear.net
