We had a great experience with Homelink. Our project manager was Scott Messe. Scott continually went above and beyond. For example, our furnace broke during the extremely cold weather. He came over in the evening to try to fix it. When he couldn't fix it, he left us his own space heater and arranged for a repairman to fix it the next day. It was such a relief to know that Scott would get it done and we didn't have to worry about it. The process took longer than anticipated (3 weeks instead of 2) due to snow days and because we changed our mind about the lighting, so it had to be rewired. Scott kept us updated on which contractors would be coming when. He came by frequently to check in on the progress and make sure everything was done right. The contractors were all very professional and punctual. We are planning to renovate our kitchen in the next couple of years and we will definitely consider using Homelink again. We might try to save money by ordering some of the materials ourselves instead of going through Ferguson Plumbing.... but at the same time, it made life very easy to pick out our selections at Ferguson and then have Scott take care of everything! Thanks again Scott!
Description of Work: Our bathroom floor was sinking because the previous owner had cut through the floor joist. We had to essentially rebuild the floor and renovated the entire bathroom. I copied the following details directly from the contract that Homelink provided. In addition to this list here, we also had them install an exhaust fan in a different bathroom and they fixed our furnace. - Demo: Remove toilet (re-use), vanity, sink, faucet, tub and shower surround, baseboards, vanity light, and mirror/med cabinet. - Remove all drywall from walls and ceilings. Pull up sub floor to expose joists. Dispose of debris. - Add 2x10 floor joists as needed to existing structure so floor is framed properly and adequately supported. Install 3/4” plywood subfloor. - Hang and finish moisture resistant drywall. - Furnish and install 42 sft of tile flooring including durock, thinset, grout, and sealer. - Furnish and install 75 sft shower wall tile including durock, thinset, grout, and sealer. One shelf in shower. - All electrical associated with installing a light over the shower, replacing the exhaust fan (vented to exterior), changing outlet to GFI, installing new vanity light in same location, add switch for new shower light. - All plumbing associated with installing new tub, shower/tub diverter, shower/tub trim, vanity faucet, installing existing toilet. - Fabricate and install new custom vanity, maple, concealed hinges, framed flat panel or square raised panel doors and drawer fronts and under mount drawers slides. - Furnish and install level one granite vanity top with backsplash and under mount sink, standard edge. - Furnish and install baseboards and shoe molding. - Furnish and install towel bar, tp holder, and robe hook. - Prime walls and ceiling. Paint walls two coats premium Sherwin Williams semi-gloss paint, paint ceiling one coat flat, trim one coat semi-gloss.

I requested the estimate on 11/12. I received a prompt response from Fran, who advised me that a project manager would be in touch. On 11/14, I sent another request, indicating that I was still waiting for the project manager to contact me. I then received a call from Scott, who scheduled an appointment with me for the following Monday. (11/18). I met with Scott, and found him to be very professional and thorough. He initially considering giving me a ballpark estimate, but realized he had not saved the results for a previous quote and did not want to overwrite it. He told me instead that he would get me an estimate within a week. On 11/22, I received another message from the office acknowledging that they were aware I had been in touch with Scott and that my project was in good hands. That was my final communication with HomeLink. To date, I have not received an estimate or any further contact. I ended up using one of the other companies I contacted, and my project is currently in process. It is unfortunate, because HomeLink was the first to come out and give me an estimate, and seems to be a great company, but I have had a lot of work done to my home, a lot of interaction with various contractors, and lack of follow up is an instant deal breaker for me.
Description of Work: I requested an estimate from HomeLink, as well as two other companies, to renovate my master bathroom.

We are deeply apologetic for the problems Ms. [member name removed] pointed out in her comments and are grateful she brought them to our attention. It seems the estimate was prepared and sent in a timely manner, however it got caught up in cyberspace somehow and was not delivered. We have since sent the estimate with our apologies. Although we realized it was too late, we thought it might be of help to her in working with the vendor she chose.

My project manager was Scott. He kept in regular contact with me over the approximately 8-week period required for this remodel. My home is 60+ years old so the project was not without challenges. Scott oversaw all subcontractor work closely and addressed issues proactively so that no problem was ever brought to my attention unaccompanied by a proposed solution. Scott listened to my requests but also was very good about educating me and offering his honest and experienced feedback, which was extremely helpful to me because this project was my first. He was very down to earth and made me feel like he was treating the project as he would treat a project in his own home. If anything, Scott was more demanding in his high standards for the work than I was. He managed my expectations in an expert manner so that I never felt unpleasantly surprised or disappointed, i.e., it was not the emotional roller coaster one often hears about with major renovations. The end product came together beautifully and I am 100% pleased with the results. Scott was honest and fair and earned my trust on behalf of Homelink. I definitely recommend this company and plan to use them again.
Description of Work: General contractor for complete kitchen demo/remodel involving creation of new design/floorplan, removal of plaster walls and ceiling, electrical upgrade, pendant lighting, recessed lighting, custom cabinetry, replacement of window, extensive ceiling work, wood floor refinishing, plumbing, all new appliances with gas stove, tile backsplash, drywall and painting.

We are pleased you had such a terrific experience with your renovation and with your Project Manager, Scott Messe! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
The work done by Homelink is just lovely. They do good, high quality work. The bushes were removed in March, the concrete slab expanded in April. The framing, roofing, and screening was done by the end of April. A gorgeous set of brick steps were also constructed during that time. I could crawl in and out of my window to access the porch (which I did routinely) but a practical use of the porch was not possible. I never saw anyone again for over NINE WEEKS. Due to some personal scheduling issues, I did not contact Homelink in May. I began emailing and texting the project manager in early and mid-June. Not receiving replies, I finally left the dreaded message that I would leave a bad review on Angie's List. (And so it goes.) They contacted me immediately, July 3 the door was installed, July 6 it was framed. I waited for the last little finishing touches. Finally I contacted the owner, Bill Maslink who responded immediately. The entire project was completed in July. I learned later that the project manager had been let go. This company does good work--it is HIGH quality. The people are very professional. I never did get any explanation of what caused the delay. I am disappointed in the company but not in their work quality. I can't honestly recommend Homelike for this reason, unless one has no time expectations. But my porch is gorgeous and my neighbors are envious. NO BUGS!!
Description of Work: Closed in patio for screened-in porch. Removal of bushes for expansion of concrete patio. Removed and bricked up a door to the old patio. Framing and screening, roofing, finishing work on the patio. Also removed existing windows and some of wall to install a sliding patio door. Built brick steps. Added cable outlet, electrical outlets. constructed wall to block sound of heat pump. Hung ceiling fan/light combo. Kitchen remodel done in 2012 led to rehire of this company.

I am very happy Bill Maslink came and reviewed the home inspection list that was done on our home in preparation to us selling the house. He gave me a written estimate and we set a time for the work. Part of the estimate was in question because it required pulling off some of the siding to see what might be wrong. The carpenter showed up when promised and an excellent job. He was able to determine exactly needed doing and went to work. His work (/ Sandy the carpenter) was excellent and done in a timely and professional manner. The estimate was spot on and I am very pleased with the results.

I brought Homelink in to paint a large area of my home - most of it 2 story walls. The set-up of the estimating and work appointments went fine, but it was clear that the home office was not hearing from the field guys because for almost every significant event point in the process, I got a phone call from the home office asking to facilitate the event about 2 weeks after I'd set the appointments with the field guys. The home office folks were nice, but uninformed. As to the work they did for me - initially the experience was not good. They sent an experienced painter with an apprentice - the experience guy was very good at his craft - the apprentice, however, was new and needed supervision. I noticed as he was painting he was using a lot of paint, resulting in drips an very thick places on the wall - my walls took on a stippled texture that they didn't have before the paint (it was the thick mat to the roller along with way, way too much paint). After the first coat I said something to the experienced painter and got nothing but excuses - he didn't even look at what I was talking about! Essentially, it was clear that I shouldn't ask questions. I was very upset because this kid was ruining my walls and no one would listen. I finally talked to their supervisor (showed up that afternoon) and tried to show him the issue - he also acted as if it wasn't a big deal, but made an effort to placate me. The painters left and I continued to chat with the supervisor (about insignificant things - he was very personable) in the area of the home where the painting was the worst. As we talked he started noticing just how bad the paint job was - and finally I felt like I was listened to. The next day was much better. The supervisor was there most of the day, the experienced painter was very nice, and the apprentice didn't paint at all. The experienced painter spent the better part of the afternoon fixing the area the apprentice had painted the day before - and it looks great now. Overall, the experience was a challenge, but in the end it was fine. One thing I should mention is that I provided the paint (Behr Premium paint - best Home Depot carries) but the painter did complain that they weren't used to it. One last thing - it was clear to me that these Angie's List reviews matter to Homelink. The turning point for me as far as them listening was when I casually mentioned that I would hate to see my review on Angie's List after this experience. After that everything changed... So my advice is to use this influence with any vendor you work with - it seems to be very effective...
Description of Work: Painting of a large area that was mostly 2 story walls.

I can't say enough good things about Homelink. I had an unusual situation where I needed to remodel one upstairs bathroom and partially remodel another downstairs bathroom . Water was leaking from the upper bath into the ceiling of the lower bath. Jenny Barber assessed the situation and gave me a fair estimate on the project. She was great and really helped me decide what course of action we needed to take that was within my budget. Once I signed the contract, they started work immediately. Project manager Rob McCauley kept me informed every step of the way. When issues came up and a plan needed to be changed, it was done quickly and professionally. Everyone involved with the project (plumbing, carpentry, drywall, tile) did exceptional work. They were punctual and courteous, always letting me know the plan for that day. If I changed my mind on ANY construction detail, Rob implemented it without any delay. I always felt like my needs were the priority. At the final walk through, there was very little that needed to be addressed because everything was done right the first time. They said it would take 6-8 weeks to complete, and they finished in 7. The new bathroom looks incredible! I can't even remember what the old one looked like (which is a good thing). No more leaks or the threat of mold behind the drywall. What an awesome company! If you have any remodeling project, hire this company to do it. I have personally been in the construction business before. Trust me, a poorly managed project is not something anyone should have to endure. You won't experience this with Homelink...they get it right from start to finish.

Homelink did 2 complete bathroom renovations for me about a year ago. While that job hit a few snags along the way, in the end, Homelink did not quit till the job was finished and I was satisfied. A year later a very minor flaw appeared in a tiny portion of the bathroom floor grout. Mr. Maslick had this fixed immediately without question. They stand behind the work they do and are professional and courteous.

Scheduled an appointment for Bill to come to our house to give an estimate. We had cleaned up for him, and I had taken the morning off from work. He called and took the information for the estimate over the phone instead. The process went smoothly, but it would have been nice for them to have told us in advance that he was not coming to the house. After a couple emails with information, they provided an estimate. The estimate seemed too high overall, so we decided not to have them complete the work. We are still trying to get some other estimates to have the work completed.

We had a big crew of 5 plus Jeff who was crew manager the first day. After that we had three guys for two days, plus Jeff checking in frequently each day, and two guys plus Jeff for part of the fourth day. Amazing speed, skill, and dexterity with the paint, both ceiling, wall, and satin enamel trim. I must say the odor from one of the apllications got to my nose ( we have a puppy, so I was sort of trapped in the house, and moved around as they moved.) That's my allergy issue- my husband the smoker never even noticed it. Doors were kept shut, shoes were removed, and I was delighted to hear one of the guys whistling softly as he worked. That really told me a lot- how often have you heard that these days?! They came early, worked very hard and steadily for 9-10 hours on some days, were meticulous about protecting the floors (even though I told them wwe are replacing carpet in most of the house.) We do have wood and vinyl as well, so I appreciated their consideration in being careful of surfaces. They cleaned up every day, and did second coats and touch-ups without my having to go over the work with a fine-tooth comb. The finished job is terrific. I am using them for detail cleaning before the open house and staging, and yard work before the house is officially listed. I am rather particular, so for me to be this thrilled over the results is a testimony to the calibre of the company. They really did a fantastic job. I will recommend them to everyone.Bill Maslink is a fantastic CEO with great business and people skills. I will use them when we move, because there is always something that has to be changed when you're not building custom!
Description of Work: Bill came out to do an estimate for us- very thorough, detailed, and reasonable. Very quick response- within a day after my inquiry. We are putting our house on the market, and this was step one. The team did smoke abatement for some of the rooms,, dealt with old wallpaper in one room, and dealt with nine rooms and three bathrooms. They were all very conscientious of our furniture and possessions, were prompt, courteous, and did a fabulous job all the way around

Impressed by Homelink's feedback history on Angies List, I began using them for maintenance and repair on our rental property. The staff is great about followup and handling scheduling direct with the tenants if asked to do so. Quality of work is no concern, and I have no idea how they handle the work so fast. I started with the lawn service. This year was just stellar for work. The yard always looked awesome. If I needed something extra, I just had to email and they were on it within a day or two. The house cleaning is wonderful as well. I have two ladies that come in and take the house by storm. We have a plan in place so that they clean some of the areas every week and others are on a rotation basis as needed. The house looks good and smells good when they are done. The ladies are sweet and hard workers and I never have to get after them about how they are doing their jobs. We also had a small electrical problem outside and they were able to send some one over to take care of it. I was thrilled since my husband works long hours. I know if I need something done, they can do it and within a reasonable time period. I'm glad that we have them and my home always looks wonderful!

We had a great experience. Our bathroom is amazing now. You would not believe the difference. It is small so it was a pain to work in but the work was completed with no problems. All the sub-contractors, including demolishers, tile installers, electrical and plumbing folks did a great job. We especially appreciated Mike who did almost everything except tile installation and some of the plumbing work. He attended to the smallest details, including new vent cover, doorknob so that the final product was perfect. Communication was good throughout. We enjoyed working with everyone we met on this project. I would definitely hire them again.

was contacted by owner 'Bill' and asked to remove a poor rating on Angie's list to which I replied that I had done nothing but tell the truth and that we had NOT rec'd his bid...well, that was my mistake as I found the bid in my junk mail, so I removed the offending rating and gave him the job as his bid was good, although not the lowest, and as a goodwill gesture of apology. I receive no pleasure in doing a 'hit job' rather I tell the truth from beginning to end, and if Bill had continued working iwth us, perhaps this might have turned out differently, however the one large request I made of Bill was asking for completion before I had major oral surgery, and he assured me that it would be finished, it was not. Now this was well into the 3rd month of work. However this request was given to his job foreman (more on him later) and it was a good two weeks AFTER my surgery that work was FINALLY completed! It took less time to have a double, two story garage with attached workshop built from scratch! A deposit check was mailed in August and tile selected although I told them that I did not care about the whitle tile since white was white although I did state that the floor tiles were too large for such a small space and another size was approved. We selected and paid for the blue glass tile for a border at a local Lowe's per their request although we did not realize that the tile we chose was to placed tile by tile since it was glued onto paper and not net mesh. 'Rob' the job supervisor told me that they were supposed to put it paper side up although it was quite obvious that this was the wrong side of the tile due to it not having the rounded corners of the other (correct) side. He was so adamant it left me feeling as if he thought that women should keep their mouths shut or be ignored or made jest of - and that pushed another of my buttons. To make a long story short, we returned the first tile, selected one on mesh and all was well, or so I thought. This story will be a book if I go day to day and since we never knew when or if someone would show up, thus cancelling the same appt. FOUR times, just suffice it to say that several times I thought about paying for what had been done and calling someone else in to finish the job - where is 'Holmes' when you need him! Obviously Bill had not conveyed to Rob the message that the work HAD to be done by the time of my surgery since we neither heard from or saw anyone for over a week! When Rob finally showed up he said he thought I was going to postpone the surgery! I told him that I had no guarantee when, or if, they would be finished and that I felt it was in bad taste to be promised one thing by the owner and then not having it followed through. By then Rob had not only insulted me but our oldest son who was staying here temporarily and who is visually challenged - i.e. he is almost totally blind. I had just told Rob that I had not appreciated the remarks of one of the electricians about 'blindness' made to my son, and he turned around and withihn ONE hour did the same, most intentionally I have to assume since after his rude remark he added 'I would not have said that if I didn't think you could take it'! Rob needs to go to work in a coal mine where he has no public access. I did make changes to the original contract adding a frameless shower door, the beadboard, and an update to brushed nickel fixtures although this request was relayed to Bill, and for some reason not included in the contract. OH, and I added additional body jets which were translated as 'sprays' and are of no therapeutic use whatsoever. We agreed not to have the corner seat added which I believe was in the contract and stated that we would purchase a teak bench, which we did and found one much taller than most, thus enabling me to sit and stand without excess effort since I have spinal stenois and a difficult time. We simply could not keep up with their billing since it was deliberately confusing and would list the same items over and over again, and while we were charged additional for the flooring in the dressing area, Bill had told me that this was included in the original contract, but it was treated as an 'add on'. My husband said that he was familiar with the software they were using and it was horrible! Not even my business major husband could make heads or tails out of it and I do believe we were overcharged, however I wanted this to be over with so badly, we just paid and prayed! We paid three times the original estimate and learned a difficult and lasting lesson. Bill also gave us bids on refinishinhg or replacing our wood flooring and painting the house since we will be placing it on the market in the spring. However I did not want to have to put up with months of not knowing when or if anyone would show up, so, quite wisely, I reopened both bids and chose two others from Angie's list, and with the floors already finished, I am VERY happy I did so! - see Mike Myers Flooring for someone who deserves to be on this list and did a wonderful job! We will also never work with a general contractor again since we could have called the local plumbing and electrical contractors on our own and saved a LOT of money! We have definitely learned how NOT to be a general contractor, and although the bathroom looks really nice (I did have to call them back in to deal with some unsatisfactory tile work) and looks as I envisioned when I was 'designing' it, I sure would not go through our experience again and this makes me wonder about all those good ratings on this list! Believe me, I simply could not make this up! Bill should have stuck with the first rating!
Description of Work: tub-shower removed and replaced with ceramic tile walk-in shower - removed existing ceramic tile floors and replaced with same - added heat/exhaust/light overhead fixture to replace existing exhaust/light fixture - added 'beadboard' to the lower half of remaining surfaces (about 6' total - if that much) - left unpainted to our request.

Response from Homelink
At Homelink, we work very hard to please each and every client, as evidenced by our outstanding customer reviews. We are very sorry that we were not able to please the customer. This entire review came as a surprise (much as the first review the customer mentioned, which she had removed when she discovered we had sent the estimate on time and she had missed it). Both Rob and the owner of the company followed up several times after the job to make sure she was happy and her comments were positive. Towards the end of the project, we were even asked to quote on other work. While we make every effort to accommodate our client’s schedules, there are times when scheduling changes have to be made to ensure proper installation of the product. The vast majority of our customers allow us to install a lockbox so that work can continue in the homeowner’s absence. When all selections and decisions are made prior to the start of a project, we will meet the agreed upon completion date. When changes are made by the customer, after work is underway, we may not be able to complete the project on schedule and will communicate this to the customer. In the customer’s case, Rob went so far as to drive to Fredericksburg to pick up special order tile that she ordered belatedly, in an attempt keep the job rolling. We are also sorry to hear that the customer felt that Rob treated her differently because she was a woman. Women outnumber men in our office two to 14 and we have never had a customer or employee complain. prior to the customer’s review. We have never known him to be cruel or disrespectful to anyone. As far as our billing procedures, we make every effort to clearly note customer add-ons. In order to clarify the cost of each add-on, or change, we obtain customer approval, before the work is performed. With all due respect to the customer, the statement that the final cost of the job was three times the original estimate simply is not true and she was charge appropriately for all services and products. (FYI – the estimate was approximately $7,700 and with the add-ons, the final invoice was approximately $9,000 not $900,000.) In the end, we are very sorry the customer is displeased and wish her the best.

We were offered two possible meeting times and made an appointment for 9 AM on a Saturday. They never came. On Tuesday someone called and left a message apologizing and asking to set another time. They may do good work but sorry, we can't hire someone who doesn't show when scheduled.
Description of Work: Wanted a quote to remodel our master bath.

Member has every right to post this complaint. While it is not typical to make weekend appointments, I did set an appointment around her schedule for Saturday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m. and failed to show up due to a family committment. I did call the Member and apologized profusely for my actions. As president of Homelink, I am embarrased that this happened and take full responsibility. It is not indicative of the Homelink philosophy or our committment to our clients and to Angie's List.

I cannot say enough positive things about Homelink. They saved the day. They were professional and punctual. Expectations were set and met throughout the entire project. I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I needed to have my 1970's bathroom remodelled from the studs up. I had water damage from a leaking toilet and tub drain. The windows in the bathroom needed to be replaced and tile on the walls and floor.

Jenny Barber does an excellent job for Homelink in both project management as well as design expertise. We're glad to hear the Customer was so pleased given the fact that we picked up the job mid-way through from another contractor.

We will not use this company in the future.
Description of Work: We were planning to remodel two bathrooms, replace whole house flooring, countertops and exterior doors. Someone showed up for an estimate, said we would have a response by later that day and we never heard back from him. A woman called to set up an appointment for the flooring but again, no follow up response. At this point we have moved on to another company to complete the work.

Unfortunately, follow-up slipped through the cracks in our system as two estimators were working on different segments of the project. Owner (me) has called to apologize and did forward a detailed estimate that the client could use for further comparisons.

I finally used someone else and the job was good.
Description of Work: Called for an estimate and they were v ery nice at first. My job was an insurance claim for hardwood that was damaged by water so it was a complicated job. Then never heard from them again once I decided to replace the entire floor.

It appears this review is the result of a miscommunication. The customer was waiting on an estimate from us and our flooring specialist was waiting to hear which presented option to quote. Nevertheless, we should have followed up when we hadn’t heard anything.
