We had made a deposit and they will start working in a few weeks. The experience in getting the quote was great. He came out, and gave us a pretty realistic idea of what to expect. We feel comfortable about the decision of having him, and the price was also reasonable.

The work went great! We were very satisfied with quality and craftsmanship of Five Star Construction. Carl and his wife arrived on time and completely the work within a few hours. They were very neat and tidy and made sure to clean up all materials. We were going to purchase trim to put on the ends of the wall where the cabinets met but Carl's work was so clean we did not have to add the expense. We will be using Carl again in the future for some more small projects in our house. Thanks again Carl!!!!

Old fan had already been removed by my son. They had to go find a new fan to fit the hole and cover the width of my old fan. I insisted the work be done today and they complied. They fixed a couple of other minor things to use the rest of the time.

I have no idea of his quality of work. We needed crown molding installed and a room painted. Mr. Macchiarulo came for an estimate with his carpenter. The carpenter said he would be having surgery on Friday but would be able to start in two weeks. Mr. Macchiarulo told us he would call with an estimate by Thursday. I asked him to please not forget us. He said he wouldn't forget us and that he didn't work that way. He said if we don't hear from him to call him on Friday. Needless to say we did not hear from him on the 9th. We called and left a message. That was 20 days ago and have not heard from him yet. We called someone else. Just the facts.

Lightening struck two trees in our backyard which resulted in loss of electricity to one side of our attic. The electrician quickly discovered that a failed switch was to blame for the power outage. He changed out a few switches and tightened the remaining loose plates. He also pointed out some potential fire hazards around the house and suggested improvements that would fit nicely into our budget.

Never got to a project

Business was not hired based on more recent reviews and lack of response with our estimate.

Overall experience was good. There were several items that had to have follow up work done but the contractor or a sub returned in a reasonable amount of time to repair items. Price was in our range and seemed reasonable. One contractor wanted $9000.00 just to replace the shower. Quality was good, the only problems were some tile grout cracking (very small area which I fixed) and where the tile ran vertical next to a window the tile was not lined up vertically with the vertical side of the window. In contractor's defense I never mentioned this primarily because there was no way he could have fixed it. It was very obvious when looking at it from across the room. We hung our shower curtain on a rounded rod so you cannot see the angled tile now, but it is there.

Over all it was very disappointing. We were willing to pay a premium to have everything done by one company and not have to deal with subcontractors. We never did get the estimate and were left hanging. The ratings provided by Angie's List was the reason we contacted this company to begin with.

Carl Macchiarulo could not have been more accommodating in working with me to get my place upgraded. We even went together to pick out the necessary items for the job at both Lowes & Home Depot. I cannot be more pleased with how the job turned out & will definitely use him again if I have another project. He will use subcontractors, for example the plumbing, but they are also on top of their game. He is very busy so be sure & plan ahead if you have any projects for him. Carl's prices are reasonable & competitive & I was very fortunate to finally find a great contractor.

The entire process went very well, thanks to Carl's knowledge. He was able to advise on other potential home improvement projects at the same time.

Under the direction of Mr. Macchiarulo, t/a/ Five Star Construction, electrical, plumbing, and drywall services were performed. While I initially asked for a written contract and certainly asked for "detailed" pricing information, it was never forthcoming. The work continued and necessary items for my invalid husband suddently became "add-ons", which were then non-affordable since we had already agreed on a price. Plus, the bathroom was entirely too small to accommodate a roll-in shower. Five feet is required for wheelchair patients to turn in a bathroom, and other items were not finished according to our needs. County inspectors had Mr. Macchiarulo return and he agreed (with them) to make corrections with the stipulation that I not be present in our living area while the worg was performed. This whole process was and continues to be extremely stressful, especially when Mr. Macchiarulo insisted upon receiving an additional $2,000 for the work where the plumbing was brought up to code approval. Because the basement conversion was not truly "handicapped accessible", we could no longer continue to live in the house where the work was done.

I was interested in a house that was for sale but would need a lot of repairs and remodeling. I contacted Five Star Construction because of the good reviews on Angie's List. Carlos answered the phone and I explained what I was looking for and asked if he was available to come look at the house...perhaps that evening or the next day. Even though it was Good Friday, he didn't tell me he couldn't do it, but asked a bunch of follow-up questions to try to understand my needs and provide me with information immediately. I told him everything the house would need (LOTS of work). He asked if we would buy it to use as our primary residence or to fix up and sell (primary residence), and asked some other questions (square footage, size of bathroom to be redone, etc). He then gave me ballpark figures for what it would likely cost to have various tasks done. The figures he gave me were in line with what I expected, based on previous estimates from other contractors for similar work on other houses I'd looked at. He also asked what I was thinking of spending to buy the house, what the assessed tax value of the house is, etc. He shared his thoughts on what he thought would be a decent financial return if we were looking at it as investors or if we had to get rid of the house after living there just a little while. But he said that if we ended up living there for 10 years, that's a different matter entirely. He told me roughly what he'd be inclined to spend on a house with that much work needed and with its assessed value, which was good to hear. In the end he asked if I still wanted him to try to come out and look at the house today or tomorrow. I said no, but thanks for his time and expertise. He said I could call him back with other questions, even small ones, anytime. Also, he had asked me toward the beginning of the call how I found him. When I said Angie's List he said there would be a discount. Very professional and helpful. I will definitely call them again for any of this type of work I am considering.

Carl was very professional from the beginning. I called him and left a message, he promptly called back and was courteous on the phone. I asked him to come out to give a quote and he came exactly when scheduled. He was the third contractor that I had to come out to give a quote. He gave a better estimate and I felt more confident in his ability to get the job done in the timeframe he promised. Carl did the work while my wife and I were on vacation, during which my mother and uncle came by occasionally to check in. Carl and his team kept the area clean and worked swiftly to have the work done before we returned. Carl had noticed that we bought a medicine cabinet that I intended to put in the wall when I came home, but Carl went ahead and put it in free of charge. Carl also put in a new vanity that I purchased. While removing the old one it became cracked and he replaced it with a new one free of charge. He exceptionally nice to my family and I would have no problem asking him to do more work for us in the future. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

My husband and I purchased a 16 year-old home in Rosemont. We were in need of major renovations and repairs. I found several remodeling contractors on Angie's List. I met with and received estimates from four companies. After careful consideration and price comparisons, we chose Five Star Construction. We made a good decision. Our experience with Five Star has been AWESOME! Carl and his crew have consistently been professional, prompt, efficient, skilled and creative. The quality of work is exceptional. We couldn't be happier with the results we've seen. We initially hired Carl for a limited scope of work, approximately $10,000. He has proven himself to be a trustworthy, skilled, competent contractor. He has the patience of a saint, even when I change my mind and move various light fixtures throughout the house after they've been hung. We have increased the scope of work to encompass ALL of our remodeling needs, including the kitchen and master bathroom. Carl, the owner and his staff, were professional, timely and provided quality work. They always did what they said they would do and more. Throughout the job, they constantly sought input for small nuanaces in the job. Being regularly engaged as they were provided an ongoing comfort that the job would be done correctly. five star construction was johnny on the spot! angies was used for my elderly mother. received other angie estimates and mom decided to go with them. and a great choice she made! carl and his wife, went above and beyond expectations. cannot say enough good about them. services provided: patched nail holes and pops, painted great room, hallways, and kitchen.removed old laminate countertop, and installed new granite, removed old carpet in great room and hallway and installed engineered hardwood. mom was out of town during some of the install, and carl was completely trusted to come and go as needed. they cleaned up after themselves thoroughly! very surprising, if you have ever dealt with any other construction companies!! do not be afraid to go with five star construction, wonderful company, and family! p.s. thank you angies!

I had a negative experience with them. They came for an estimate and were supposed to send the written estimate the same day, but it was actually sent 3 weeks later. I will never use their services in future.

The Five Star team gave me a fair estimate and showed up exactly when they said they would and conducted themselves in a very professional manner. The quality of the construction is excellent and the addition is exactly what I wanted. They completed the work ahead of the time I was expecting and I am so excited for the weekend to come so I can show my company my new deck! I will definitely use these guys again for other work around my house.

They were neat and professional from start to finish. They completed the job on time and for the price they quoted. I am thrilled with my new kitchen and have recommended them to all of my neighbors. I will be calling them in the future for some other projects.

I cannot be happier with how everything turned out. Carl was very quick to respond to my phone call. He gave me an estimate and started the remodel within 5 days.
