Description of Work: The reviews on Angie's list were right on except for one thing. I had a new ceiling fan that I wanted to replace with an older light fixture in my kitchen. After speaking with Mike on the phone he gave me a price of 165.00. I felt that was fair so we scheduled the work for the next morning. The young man who came to my house was right on time. Very upbeat and very professional. He was so neat with the install, that it was like her was never there. I had a motion sensor light that I wanted to have installed, just replacing an existing light on the side of my garage door. I asked if it would be possible for him to install it, and he politely said sure no problem. Well that's where my problem came I should have asked for a price to have that done!!!!! Lesson learned. Anyway when all was said and done the price was 310.00. Now I am not an electrician, but it took, the young man a little over two hours to Install the ceiling fan and 15 minutes to switch out the light on the garage. And the charge for the 15 min job was 145.00!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously!!!!! I fell like I was totally taken advantage of. I was so shocked that I just wrote out the check. I will say that they gave me a quote for installing a new transfer switch for a new generator that we purchased, however after this experience, I do not think that I will use them. I really feel like I was screwed with the pricing!!!!! The sensor light only cost me 40.00, so how can you justify a charge of 145.00 to I stall it?? Like I said my fault for not asking upfront. Will never ever do that again. UPDATED AUGUST 18, 2012: This is an update to my earlier report regarding being overcharged. Mr. Cole contacted meas soon as he got back from vacation and took care of the situation. He was extremely pleasant to deal with and apologized for the misunderstanding. He was at my house the same day with a check for the difference. I was totally impressed. It is not often that you find someone as honest and sincere about his business and his customers. Will definitely call home again.

Description of Work: My daughter caled me Monday evening about some proboems she was having with her lights and her stove. What she described to me sounded very dagerous and after looking on Angie's list I suggested she call Cole ASAP. She did the next morning and they were there by 1 pm. They found the lighting problem quickly and discovered that the stove receptacle and wirng were melting! Very dangerous. They fixed the problem, brought everything up to code and were on their way. My daughter and I were very pleased that what could have been a real serious problem was fixed so quickly and so professionally.Dave Thompson

Mike Cole called back by the end of the day and after asking a few questions about my needs, gave me a verbal estimate to furnish, install and wire 2 bath fans. Several workers arrived the next day as scheduled. Fans were installed with great care and precision. I added a few other repairs to the list and gave them the option of coming back at some other time to finish the work. They opted to complete the list in the same visit. I cannot say enough good things about the job. The workers were polite and answered all my questions and there was no mess for me to clean! I will use them again.
Description of Work: Installed and wired 2 bath fans, removed receptacle no longer in use, repaired spliced wire and replaced outdoor receptacle.

+ 1 moreMike Cole came to our house and provided an estimate the same day we called. After receiving a few other bids, we went with his company. Although it wasn't the lowest bid, I was impressed with how effectively he answered all my questions, explained things, and offered to do a minor job (fixing poles on a light switch) for free. His crew arrived on time, worked hard, came back the next day to finish the work, and did a great job cleaning up while they worked. They explained what they were doing, when they hit an obstacle we talked about how to get around it, and they were extremely accommodating. There were a couple of opportunities where we changed an element of the job and they could have jacked up the price--they didn't and I appreciate that.
Description of Work: They installed five ceiling fans (one in a room with no attic access), ran a phone line, and installed an outlet. It turned out we needed a remote on one of the fans so they stopped mid-assembly, moved on to another job, and we went to the store and got a remote which they then installed. I will absolutely use them next time I need any electrical work and I've already recommended Cole Elec to my family.

They cleaned up, were very efficient, and I just love my new kitchen light. Their price is very reasonable compared to other electricians I have used. From today forward, Cole Electric is my electrician for jobs at my home. They were great.
Description of Work: Cole Electric fixed a receptacle and installed a new ceiling light in the kitchen. At first they took down the old light and it was apparent that it needed to be replaced, so they had to return to finish the job. In the meantime, I went out and bought a new fixture.

+ 2 moreJob went smoothly from start to finish. They were on time, in fact arrived early on several days.
Description of Work: We are in process of having entire home remodeled. Which includes a lot of electrical work in all rooms of the home. We had ceiling fans, recessed lighting, new electrical outlets, TV cable hookups and phone hookups addded to existing home. Several clock outlets were installed in dining room for art work. Ceiling fans were hard wired into ceiling vs preexisting hanging wires on hooks running across celing and down walls. Some wall switches were moved and new lighting added in several closets. The work performed was efficient, started on time and they were extremely punctual. They do not use sub contractors so it was just Mike Cole and Jeff who did all the work. They stayed on job for almost entire week until all work completed. What impressed me was their fast response time after calling for estimate and that estimate was clearly itemized for each item and cost of each item - not just room cost, but each electrical item in each room had cost factor so we could easily decide what items were really needed vs cost involved for each item. Also after each project completed they cleaned and vacuumed! Very excellent service and I would use them again! Great job Cole Electric!

+ -1 moreI was very happy that Cole was able to come out the same day. They showed up on time and got right to the problem. It turns out that my line was not 220V or 240V as I had thought, but only 120V. He also noticed that the electric wire had been run through a foundation vent rather than through the rim joist and didn't meet code. The electrician gave me some options, and I decided to have him run a new line on its own breaker, which involved him working mostly under the house in the crawl space. He also replaced the old outlet, which although it was designed for outdoor use, wasn't as good as the new one that he installed. They supplied all the materials. When he had that job completed, I had him install a replacement attic fan, since mine had stopped working and I had already purchased a new kit but hadn't put it in yet. He did that fairly quickly and cleaned up the mess neatly in the box for the new fan. I did fail to really discuss price much as we discussed the options. I was figuring in my head an estimate, based on how long things would take and the materials, but frankly I really wanted the jobs done that day and didn't want to slow him down by having him figure up several different prices. So, my bill was around $75 more that I had guessed, but with the prices of copper high right now, I wasn't too disappointed. But, my idea of an A rating is for the price to be either exactly what was quoted or on the low side of an estimate. Since I didn't get a good quote, it's hard to compare in that regard. But I would use this contractor again as they were very clean, professional, and the work seemed solid. I would say a B+ on the price if that was an option. I haven't had any problems with the work.

+ 0 moreI called the company just after 8 a.m. and the repairman was at my door just after 9 a.m. Repair was completed by 10 a.m. He had the replacement part (socket) on his truck. The young man was very courteous and polite. He cleaned up after the repair was done. He asked me if I wanted him to look at anything else but the outside light repair was all I needed. I will definitely use Cole Electric again.
Description of Work: I needed the light outside over my garage door repaired or replaced. Plain light. No motion sensor, etc.

+ 0 moreI selected Cole Electric based on them having great reviews on Angies List. They were nice people to deal with and came on time to get an idea of what work was required. When they left they said I would have an estimate in a few days. When that didn't happen I called several times over the next two weeks trying to find out what happened to my estimate. I got apologies, but no estimate. Finally on the third call they said they lost their notes with my contact information and wanted to know if I would let them come back to see what work was needed. By now I was ready to move on to the next electrical contractor. This isn't the first time I have had contractors come by, promise estimates and then never to hear from them again. It's no wonder so many businesses go broke. If someone can't keep track of preparing estimates how will they do the quality job you need them to do? You would think in a down economy focusing on getting new clients would be an important objective.
Description of Work: The project I needed an estimate on was for the rewiring of a garage, installation of a transfer switch for an emergency generator, installation/repair of inside and outside lights and recepticals and some troubleshooting of several circuits.

+ -1 moreWe dealt with Jeff, who was professional and just very at ease with what he was doing. I was impressed with how at ease he seemed, about something that to me sounded very complicated when I first spoke about it with Dominion Power. Jeff communicated clearly everything he was doing, and brought someone with him to help. He came on the morning that we arranged, and got done in one day what I thought for sure would take at least two days. He worked well past dark, but was able to finish around 8 in the evening, and he walked us through the next few steps ahead in the process. My husband and I went down to the basement to see what they had done, only to find that they had even cleaned up afterward! Sometimes it "takes a village" to work on an older home, so finding the right people can be quite a process. I was relieved to find that after using several different relatively good electricians, Cole Electric definitely stood out as one of the folks that I should add to my "village" list! After this experience, it would be hard for me to call anyone else for electrical work...

+ 1 moreI called Wednesday afternoon, and they came out early Thursday morning. They had to buy the materials (light fixture and replacement stove hood with exhaust fan. They were neat, clean, friendly, and courteous, worked quickly, and cleaned up after they were done. The light in the closet is wonderful, with a daylight bulb that lights the whole closet. The new hood goes well with the kitchen and the fan is quiet and efficient. Using the stove and oven won't set off the smoke alarms any more.
Description of Work: They furnished, wired, and installed one 4' fluorescent fixture in bedroom closet. Also furnished, and replaced one range hood exhaust fan.

+ -1 moreFrom start to finish, it went very smoothly. tCole's employees asked questions, listened, investigated, found the problems, and fixed them. The builder's electrician did NOT do this, incurring costs for us. And perhaps a dangerous situation existed, which seemed not to concern the builder or his electrician, either.
Description of Work: Our builder has not been responsive to an electrical issue we have had since moving in to our new house DEC 22nd, 2010. Since our previous house had many issues, and actually burned almost all the way own after just 7 months after moving in, we wanted to buy a well built house. However, builders are cutting corners more and more, and our new house was having "mystery" electrical issues. Circuit breakers were going off , unexplained, and wouldn't reset immediately in some cases. An outdoor receptacle, and the front outdoor "post" light gave us the most problems over several months. Our builder agreed to send "his" electrician to our house, but he did nothing to investigate, and acted as if it was all in "our heads". I got onto Angie's list, saw Cole Electric, and their high rating, and called. Mike, the owner, was professional, courteous, and caring. He and several of his workers "fit us in" the folllowing day, and fixed the receptacle, and the lamp post, which contained the GFI interruptor. When this got moisture in it, we were having the issues. They made some simple repairs, but we haven't had any additional issues AT ALL since they came. And they came right away, which was really nice.And they knew their stuff-very refreshing!

+ 1 moreBecause of favorable ratings on Angie's List, I chose Mike Cole Electric to install two new ceiling fans with remote controls in the bedrooms of my new condo. I was so pleased with the responsiveness and professionalism of Mike and his two employees, Jeff and Travis, that I contracted with him to install recessed and pendant lights in the kitchen and living room. They arrived on time both days. It was obviously not an easy job to install recessed lighting in the ceiling of a condo with sprinklers and no access to an attic, and it took them the better part of the day to to the work. I am very impressed with Jeff and Travis. The cost of installing the recessed lighting, the pendants and the dimmer switch was half what the cost of five recessed lights alone would have been if I had chosen the builder's option. I highly recommend Mike Cole Electric to anyone needing electrical work and will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: 9/20/11 - installed two ceiling fans with remote controls. Installed dimmer switches to chandeliers in dining room and breakfast area. 10/17/11 - Removed builder-installed ceiling fixtures in the kitchen and living room of my new condo. Installed five recessed lights in kitchen and living room, two new pendant lights over kitchen bar area, and a dimmer switch to the lights in the kitchen.
