The work was done on 2/6 & 2/7 and we are extremely pleased with the new system. Our second floor is warm for the first time since we moved in. We are looking forward to air conditioning this summer! The thermostat & remote thermostat are awesome. We can use the remote thermostat to read the temperature in any room and engage the system. The air flow is noticeably stronger but not noisy. They also installed a rapid recovery gas hot water heater on 2/7. So far we have been able to tell if we won't run out of hot water but multiple people have showered in different bathrooms at the same time and had hot water. We added this in because we were so impressed with Air Right when they were working on the HVAC and knew that it was almost time to replace the hot water heater. We very much recommend Air Right.
Description of Work: On 2/1/13, a technician came out to look at our Heat Pump that was making a clicking noise and having trouble engaging. He was very professional and thorough. He gave us options to fix the heat pump or have the owner come out and give us an estimate for a new system. Our system was 13-14 years old and was not functioning at optimal performance for a few years. On 2/4/13, the owner Bill Hix gave us an estimate and great ideas to improve the air flow of our current duct work. We had another estimate on the same day but Air Right's estimate was overall a better plan and price.

They completed maintenance checkup on the system they installed several years ago. Original purchase and installation of new furnace and heat pump was excellent. Have used them ever since to do routine maintenance on the system.

Ron from AirRight was excellent in his assessment and recommendation. We were looking at a potential rental property that needed to have the furnace and heat pump completely replaced. Ron looked and saw that the units were completely non functional, and frankly, unsafe. He was very thorough in his analysis of the system, and suggested replacing the gas furnace with an electric heat pump system, and updating the electrical breaker box to 200 amps. This would also include replacing some ducts and cutting an access hole into the otherwise inaccessible crawl space. I received the estimate, and it was lower than my expectations. Ron gave me only helpful advice for moving forward; no pressure to purchase the property and have the work done. The potential rental has turned out otherwise to be a money pit, so we are staying away from it for now. If need be, we will certainly use AirRight in the future.

The old unit was demantled and cleared away. I watched at least 90% of total installation. Eric and Willie installed my new unit. It was like watching an artist at work. They were so meticulous and making sure that everything was perfect. I bought my home new back in 2000. They improved areas that the builder had not completed properly. I was amazed just watching these young men go about their job. They were well trained and so efficient. I cannot put into words how professional and friendly they were. An insector, Tracy, came out a week later to check everything. He adjusted the unit to where he thought it should be. He answered all my questions and educated me on how the system operated. He made me feel like I was the most important customer to his company. He told me to feel free to call if I had any concerns later. I was dreading putting in a new system but this experience gave me more than I could have ever asked for. AirRight had other companies beat on the price and I don't think anyone can touch the workmanship. If you are looking for a new heating or cooling system, AirRight is the right company for you. When you watch them do the job, you will never be second guessing your decision. AirRight has a reason to be proud of their work and I have a reason to never look for another company when it comes to my heating a cooling needs.
Description of Work: I had my old heating and cooling system replaced. Before, I had gas heat and a cooling unit which was costing a lot of money to operate. I needed something new, more up to date and efficent. Mr. Hicks came out and showed me all the different systems that he offered and left the decision up to me. There were several to choose from.

Mr Hix, operations manager, came out 3 days before the install to customize my system for comfort. His team showed up on time and were very professional. The system was installed in 1 day. I now have 3 zones for comfort in my bedroom, my sons bedroom and the third floor. The new heat pump system was installed over the summer and my energy bills are significantly lower and we all are more comfortable. Fantastic job by the AirRight team! I will use them again and would highly recommend them.

Recieved estimate and went over the plan, scheduled a day about a week out and work was completed as planned in a day and a half. They did a follow up call a few days later to make sure the temperatures/ airflow was doing well in the 2 rooms. During the time they were doing the work, they needed to add an additonal vent (including cutting hole in floor and carpet, T-ing off original duct and adding the duct and the vent itself) to get the air flow correct in one of the rooms that was not in the original plan but they stuck to the original price given with no additional charges to make sure the job was done correctly. I REALLY appreciated this extra effort without asking for more money. They found several issues that our old HVAC company did incorrectly and fixed a few of those as well. ( I will never use Weathercrafters again!) Airight was a great company to work with and was both friendly and professional!
Description of Work: Re-routed multiple air vents/air flow to get correct heat flow to two additions in our 1940 house that were always several degrees cooler. It was a tricky thing to do and get right but they did a great job. Also added a better allergy filter on the return and laid plastic under a crawl space. Yearly general check up on 1 of the 2 HVAC units in the house.

Technician was very thorough even after furnace started working. Checked everything over & gave me an est. for replacing the therm. in case it stopped working again. Everything is working fine now.
Description of Work: Furnace stopped working. Technician checked furnace & couldn't find anything wrong. I suggested checking thermostat as I had reprogrammed it just before furnace stopped working. He removed thermostat & tightened all the wires & put it back on the wall. Furnace immeditely came on. Apparently, when I reprogrammed therm., something came loose.

Brian Snyder came out and did a great job. It was an unbearably hot day so we really needed some help. Our dogs were panting so hard we were going to have to go to a hotel. Thank you Brian Snyder and AirRight.
Description of Work: The condensate pump on our air handler died. This triggered a kill switch thus shutting off our heat pump to prevent it from flooding our crawl space. Brian identified the problem and fixed it. It turned out a breaker on our arc-fault electrical system had tripped. This probably shut off the pump, which then filled with water and died.

I called a different company after my AC unit stopped working. They replaced a pump but also discovered a leak. I was told I would need a new AC unit. I called Airight for a 2nd opinion. They confirmed there was a leak and fixed it. I paid $165.00 for the repair instead of $4000 to $5000 for a new unit.

They were excellent. There were a couple of issues that needed to be taken care of and they were right here. They would have come that day if my schedule would have allowed it. They were very very responsive. If I had any questions they were ready to help me over the phone. Usually they ended up just coming right to our home, I think they are 14 miles from me so it's not like they are right next to me. I have also referred them to friends.

Called our typical HVAC service company for a problem and found that the emergency heating element on our system was gone. This system had been in the house since it was built in 1994, so it was time for it to go. We had already replaced the upstairs coil several years go. Now, though, this little $600 repair would be on a system that was old, inefficient, and likely to fail again with more expensive repairs. We got a price from that company, and then comparison shopped. I had used Hix HVAC several years before, but had changed for no real reason to the other company. Both have done well servicing the equipment in professional ways. Hix recently merged with another company to become AirRight by Hix. The sales engineer came by and looked at what we had, and asked questions about how the A/C or heating seemed to work. He walked the house and did a complete thermal analysis of the load on the house. The other company did not do this, but their sizing estimate was about the same. In addition to the thermal anaylsis, Hix looked at the ductwork in the attic coming off the existing system and identified inefficient or improper duct design that has caused the bonus room over the garage to have bad heating or cooling. It was always hotter in the summer or colder in the winter, but we had just accepted that because "it was over the garage". Hix (the man himself) came by to look at the job. Both he and the sales engineer (Ron) explained how they plan all the parts and cut the ductwork ahead of time in their shop, so when they come to the site they are faster, more efficient, and it is an engineered design. They also conduct post installation audits of the work. The job was priced competitively, but AirRight quoted a slightly larger and more efficient unit than the other guy. They both had springtime pricing incentives, but AirRight also had an Angie's list discount. The payment for the job could be split into 2 parts: 50/50. Since the job was worked quickly, this didn't make as much of difference as I would have liked (hitting 2 different credit card cycles), but it was nice to have that option. The job was completed on schedule with no mess left over. In fact, the attic area was swept cleaner than it had been before they did the job. Also, the pad they build for the outside unit was impressive and I won't have to worry about ground water rusting out the unit. An excellent job. Oh, and the room over the garage now has the same temperature as the rest of the house.
Description of Work: Replaced heat pump system servicing upstairs zone. Modified original ductwork to better serve the upstairs room layout with the newer, more efficient equipment. Replaced both indoor and outdoor units, replaced exterior base pad.

They were very responsive and reasonably priced. We were considering them for replacing an air conditioner. My wife was calling them to look at getting a spring maintenance done on our air conditioner. She was surprised to find them listed even on the latest Angie’s List Magazine as HIX and as of yesterday she was telling me that they are going by a different name now even though the owner Mr. Hix is still involved with the company; it’s a different company now. They did the job at a reasonable cost in a timely fashion. They were here within a day and that is why were disappointed when we called and found out that there was going on with their business. We don’t know if it is such a bad thing because they may have just changed ownership. The workmen were very professional and made sure that he was looked through the house before he did any corrective action. When they diagnosed what was wrong they told us about it and what needed to be done, what had to be replaced with the costs; so we knew right at front what was going to happen. We appreciate honesty from workmen and it’s a big deal for us. They were here to do the work within 24 hours.

In the last year I have had both my upstairs and downstairs heat pumps fail. The first to fail was the upstairs unit and I hired another company to do the job. The initial install was sub-standard and didn't meet their own specifications. I called AirRight in for a second opinion only to find that they should have been the ones I hired to begin with. The other company eventually fixed the issue. Unfortunately for me, my downstairs system failed shortly after my upstairs system. AirRight was the only one I considered for the job. AirRight's workmanship is superb and their prices are competitive. They have extremely knowledgeable and cordial employees who are on time and do the job right the first time. The system they installed is so quiet I can barely hear it, but it does the job of heating or cooling quickly and efficiently. In short, you won't find a better company with which to do business.

Using Hix for this work was probably one of our most regrettable financial decisions in our 20 year marriage. Problems began day two and continued with 9 calls over the next year for the following problems: poor wiring which resulted in no A/C Incorrect pipe installation incorrectly installed hydronic heating system which caused the water heater to vent and flood the garage 4 times installation that did not meet code requirements no permit application with the county no mixing valve installed which meant water temperature inside the house exceeded safe levels Incorrect, cheap valves installed instead of the parts provided with the heating system Insufficient heat during this past winter We had so many problems w/ heat and A/C after Hix did the installation that I contacted the president of the hydronic system to figure out what was wrong. We had relied solely on a hydronic heating system for 15 years with no problems. Hix convinced us to install an electric heat pump in addition to the hydronic system, and that's where our problems began. Hix is not familiar with the hydronic system and should stop installing it until they know what they are doing. We called in another company in December 2011 to look at our system because the house was freezing. The 2nd company was able to increase heat output from the unit. We have actually called in two companies to look at the installation and check out the system because we've had so many problems. To compare, in the previous 15 years, we had to call someone in to look at our A/C system twice - both times for low freon. While Hix was quick to respond when there were problems, no one should have these many serious problems in the first months after a major installation. I have been extremely disappointed with Hix and do not recommend them for A/C services and installation.
Description of Work: Hix replaced our existing water heater and heating and A/C system (15 years old). We decided to upgrade to take advantage of energy tax credits, not because we were having problems with the existing system.

I would like to apologize for what happened with your installation using Hix Heating and Air Conditioning. I am sure they did everything in their power to correct your problems in a timely manner and to your satisfaction. I would also like to point out that Hix Heating and Air Conditioning is no longer in business. Our 15 year old A/C went out about 3 weeks before my wife was about to give birth to our first child in early May 2010. After a little negotiation, we decided to go with Hix since 1) Trane clearly makes a better product than their competitors and 2) Bill Hix put my 8-month pregnant wife at ease! (I wish I could do that...) The Trane Heat Pumps are clearly more technically sophisticated than other brands (Carrier, Lennox, York). I love that the fan is not exposed directly so leaves and debris does not get through the top of the unit, as it is covered. Also, instead of traditional cooling fins they use more of a 'pipe cleaner' technology - which obviously increases the surface area to make the system more efficient. Our (2) 20 seer two-stage units are HUGE (5ft tall), but they still look nice and are ultra quiet. We also went with the ultra-high efficiency furnances (95%) and Trane CleanEffects (air filtration) - since I decided that if we had to replace our units, might as well do it right. The installation crew was quite skilled (I enjoyed coming home each day from work to see how much work they had accomplished) and very professional. Bill Hix (the owner) previously did duct design/repair work in the Navy (submarine fleet, if memory serves me right...) and he was personally involved in the design of the overall air flow and duct work in our house. You can clearly see where he incorporated some of his subject matter expertise in this field to optimize the performance of the system (no radical 'bends' in the ducts or simply splicing a duct into a blunt 'T' connector - both which would cause backflow issues.) The duct work looks like an exhaust manifold in a performance car... (not as sexy, but you get my point! Proper airflow = better performance) So, fast forward almost 2 years now and the system is still running great. Hix comes out every 6 month for preventative maintenance and aside from a small water freeze issue due to the cold winter last year (Fixed within 24 hours - Hix had to insulate some external pipes), the system has been flawless and the air quality is noticeably better. Most importantly, our electric and gas bills have been cut in half. Probably could be even more, but with a baby in the house we are keeping the house at a consistent and very comfortable 70 degrees year round (24/7).
Description of Work: Installed (2) 20 seer Heat Pumps & (2) 95% high efficiency furnaces with CleanEffects filters. Completely replaced upstairs duct work.

Had very specific work I wanted done. The girl in the office was able to ask one of the techs about the price and quoted me over the phone how much it was going to cost. In fact she recommend some ways to save me some money. I made the appointment over a week out. They were suppose to be here in the morning but had to reschedule for end of the day which was fine. The tech that came out to do the job needed some extra parts and had to run to the store to finish the job. They did the service I asked at the price that was quoted to me. I also went ahead and began utilizing them for preventive bi-annual maintenance.

My replacement Trane CAC and Furnace system was designed and installed professionally. The install took a bit longer than anticipated but the final outcome was worth it. The installers were neat and detail oriented. Their quote wasn't the lowest but it was competitive and after speaking to the salesman and reading reviews here, I felt comfortable choosing them. The only negative I can mention is I had to do much of the legwork to find what discounts, tax credits or rebates were available. Initially I planned on replacing only my defunct CAC, coil and thermostat. I would have paid $900 for the Trane XL950 Thermostat alone. I found out Trane was offering a free Xl950 Thermostat ($900 list-$415 wholesale) if I purchased a complete system, and Hix was offering a $500 coupon off a complete system installation for Angie's List members. That added up to $1300 off, plus $300 additional state and utility rebates if I installed a new furnace at the same time. The "B" Professionalism rating reflects this. The rest of their work was professional.
Description of Work: Originally I contracted to have a new Central Air Conditioning system, coil and thermostat installed. In the end I also had Hix install a new gas furnace.

They were very professional, very efficient and very neat and cleaned up everything. They also came back three times. When they gave the estimate and I accepted the estimate, the owner came out and suggested some duct work and they redid some duct work. After they finished the work, the owner came back two times to make sure everything was working properly and they were very good in following up. I would rate them high overall. I would use them again in the future. I also have a service contract with them and that was included in the estimate.
Description of Work: I used Hix Heating & Air Conditioning Inc for installation of A/c. The last time I used them was in August last year. They did a hybrid H-PAK unit with a gas back up and twenty seer A/c unit and also installed water heater. They also cleaned my ducts and sealed it.

Service call 1: Technician came out on time, diagnosed the problem and replaced a broken capacitator. He checked the refrigerant level and topped it off with a half pound of freon. ==> Cost $341.00. Service call 2: Two weaks later, again A/C (heat pump) was running but did not generate any cool air. Technician came out on time, checked the capacitator he had installed earlier which was fine. He then checked the refrigerant level and found that the system was almost completely empty. As a result he diagnosed a major leak, and suggested I make another appointment to perform a leak test to find/fix the leak. Upon getting the work order receipt I found he had - on his own, without my knowledge - charged the ***leaking*** system with 5 pounds of freon. He was new with the company so he did not know if I was going to be charged for it. There was no price noted on the work order form. I promptly received a bill for $380.00 for 5 pounds of refrigerant. The 5 pounds of freon lasted for a day before evaporating into the environment. As a result, after having spent $721 I had no A/C and no more trust in this company.
Description of Work: I had two service calls within two weeks. Symptom: the heat pump was running but did not generate any cool air. The first service call was handled satisfactorily, except $341 to replace a capacitator ($30-$50 part) is OUTRAGEOUS. Hix calls it list price.

We plan to finish an unfinished attic room, but first we needed to improve the heating and cooling system for the 2nd and 3rd floors. After getting an estimate from another HVAC company, who recommended we add another unit, we called Hix. They did a far more extensive and detailed inspection of the existing system and foudn the existing unit to be adequate but the ducts and vents were operating at only 30% efficiency. They designed a much more efficient system that not only would help heat and cool the new unfinished room but all the rooms in the 2nd and 3rd floors. They were very professional and easy to work with and the final product is great. I definitely recommend them to others!

First impressions are important and so I was instantly impressed with Mandy who answered my call and promptly scheduled a salesman to come to my home the very next day after normal work hours to accommodate my work schedule late at night. He was on time and spent hours explaining everything to me. The following day Mr Hix came to my home to follow up (very impressive again!). The install was scheduled for the next morning and again everyone was on time, professional, and the job was completed in a timely manner.
Description of Work: After getting several estimates for my new heat pump system, Ron Cooper came to my home and spent about 3 hours checking out everything from the duct work to the insulation and existing furnace and thoroughly explained everything to me as he worked so that I understood what needed to be done. Although Hix was higher than other estimates I chose this company because of their professionalism, knowledge, quality and time spent. Mr. Hix himself even came out to my home before the install to make sure the proposed work was exactly what needed to be done according to his salesman which was just another service to insure my investment. I would highly recommend Hix to anyone that is looking for heating and air conditioning services.

I didn’t have any problems with them. They checked my stuff, changed my filters, and told me that there wasn’t anything wrong. They guys that come out are very friendly. I’ve been working with them for the last three years and I haven’t gotten rid of them yet. They are very good and I'll continue to use them.
Description of Work: Hix Heating & Air Conditioning serviced my AC. They come out twice a year to do maintenance on my AC and my heat pump.

Person showed up on time and insisted that he survey entire house including crawl space, attic and all rooms. I was told that they would not install a furnace unless we upgraded our entire duct work. They were to give me a written estimate in 2 days. Got a phone call about 2 weeks later that they needed to set an appointment to meet with both my wife and I to explain their estimate. We had already had the furnace replaced by the time they called.they were more focused on what they insisted they needed to do rather than what the customer wanted.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate to convert an oil furnace to natural gas.

Response from AirRight Inc
We at Hix Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. really appreciate and value our customers opinions. However in this particular instance our comfort specialist did the right thing. Our Comfort Specialists are trained to do a complete diagnostic walk through of the customers existing system. That includes a thorough duct inspection, a load calculation which includes taking measurements of home to make sure system is sized properly based on current condition of home. Then they make recommendations based on their findings. This particular customer has craft paper insulation on existing upstairs duct in attic most of which was not in tact and does not meet local code requirements, the crawl space had no craft paper attached and insulation hanging off of duct work which is also against code. At Hix we pride ourselves on the work that we do and we do not do work that does not meet local code requirements. The heating and air conditioning industry is and ever changing and evolving industry and things that were acceptable practice 10 years ago are not today. I am sorry that that this customer did not see the value in that and I hope that they received a great installation and that their new system works well for them for years to come. However, in most cases when adding newer style equipment to old style duct work you do have to make some modifications in order to assure proper code is met as well as and most important proper airflow for the customers system. We are not focused on what we want we are focused on what is best for the customers comfort and proper operation of their system so that they can get the best performance and longevity out of their equipment. Unfortunately what the customer wants isn't always what is needed for proper equipment operation. Gone are the days of the cookie cutter change out now responsible companies have to address airflow, size, and performance of equipment installed.
