Overall a good experience. My only issue is the price felt a bit heavy. I discovered the outside unit of my heat pump was not cycling on and the fan would not engage/start. Made the call to AirRight in the morning and they were able to have someone out by 11:00 am. Mandy, who handles the phone and scheduling, was very helpful and Scott the technician was very professional. My only concern was the price. Total price for the service was $680.00. The two parts needed - a capacitor and the compressor fan motor- I found online for $40 for the capacitor and $160 for the motor which included shipping. I was quoted $550 to replace the fan motor and $160 to replace the capacitor. As I stated above, the technician was here by 11:00 a.m. and all the work was completed by 1:00 p.m. and that included a trip back to the shop to pick up parts. Total time onsite doing work was about 1 hour. While I'm pleased with the service, I just think the overall price was excessive.
Description of Work: Diagnosed the problem with the outdoor heat pump unit. Replaced the condenser fan and capacitor.

Overall it took 2 hours of hard work to figure out what was going on. In the attic a fuse was blown and we went to the thermostat that kept shutting off and thought it was that. After the guy replaced the fuse and reprogrammed the thermostat he concluded it the thermostat was broken but that wasn't the case. Next he thought there was a wire that was bad in the system so he swapped out wires. Finally we ended up at the outside unit and discovered that some part of it had burnt out which was causing the fuse to burn in the attic. After switching out the burnt part on the fan the system started working again. I got charged an additional $136 for the part, after all the work the guy did and really difficult troubleshooting I thought it was a good deal. Highly recommended.

It went better than can be expected. Mr. Hix gave me the best price by far over 10 other HVAC companies on Angie's list He measured all the work that need to be done and had special duct work prepared to maximize air flow etc. His installers showed up as scheduled and did a thorough job. A few days later, his Quality Review man came by and checked everything. Another point that was very important is that many of the other HVAC companies on Angie's list didn't feel it was necessary to have the count inspector check the work. But Mr. Hix said that county inspectors should definitely be involved. I would recommend this company to anyone because they are thorough, professional, responsive and very ethical And best of all, they had the lowest price

I purchased a $49 service visit on Angie's List and called the same day to arrange an appointment. They were able to get me in the very next day, which was wonderful because it was over ninety degrees outside and we really needed our A/C! The person who answered the phone seemed knowledgeable and was very professional in scheduling. The technician arrived on time, actually a little bit early :) , and he was very polite and professional. He went right to work and fixed the problem, which got the air conditioning working again within the hour. My only concern was that he went right to doing the repairs and didn't let me know about the cost of them until they were complete. Luckily, I had enough money to cover the cost, but I always like to be told ahead of time a ballpark figure of how much the service will cost. All in all, I think I got a pretty good deal, since he went ahead and did all the things that you would do on a yearly A/C maintenance as well as fixing the problem. I plan to use Air Right when I do my heating maintenance this fall, and I'll simply be sure to tell the technician when s/he arrives that I'd like to be informed of any additional costs before they do the work

Airright/Hix installed our Trane system several years ago. We have had annual service contracts with them since. Yesterday when I came home from work, I discovered the ac was not working. I called around 2pm; they were able to get a service man at our house at about 3:30pm. They found the problem and fixed it all within an hour. This is the 3rd time I have had to call them for service over the last 11 years and they have always responded within hours. Thank you for being so responsive.

We purchased this service through the Angie's List Big Deal. We had been having issues with our A/C not blowing cool for portions of the day especially when it was very humid outside. I called them on Monday to schedule and appointment and they advised they could get someone out by Wed between 12-4. The technician arrived in the 1 o'clock hour on Wednesday. After explaining our issue, he immediately had an idea of the culprit. He checked our filters, A/C unit outside and in the garage. He determined what our problem was, and explained why we were having the issue and what we could do to prevent it. He was very knowledgeable and professionial. I would use this company again in a heartbeat!

Process went very well. Upon return from vacation, we discovered that our upstairs AC unit was not cooling. Since it was on the weekend after hours we called the 24 hour number for AirRight and left a message for the on-call technician describing our problem. Within less than 10 minutes Alex returned my call and we did some basic troubleshooting over the phone to narrow down the problem. Alex then offered to come out to the house that night to confirm and perform the repair or delay the service call until normal business hours to avoid the after-hours premium charge. He was clear that he would be happy to work the project either way and was offering the weekday option as a way to reduce our costs. We opted for the weekend service call and provided directions to our home. He estimated that he could be on site within 30 -45 minutes and arrived within the projected window of time. Within just 5 minutes of arrival, he had diagnosed the problem and since he had the needed part on his truck, replaced the failed capacitor. After completing the repair he checked the voltages and closed up the unit. Alex was very easy to work with and OK with me as a curious homeowner watching the entire process. Before he left, he processed the invoice electronically, collected payment, and emailed me a receipt. The company was currently offering an Angie's List service call discount and also offered a discount on the installed part. Both discounts were applied to the bill and we were very pleased with the fair price charged by AirRight. We have been doing business with Bill Hix (owner) for more than 10 years and they have always been responsive in handling our residential HVAC work.

We were very pleased with the project from start to finish! We had several quotes but decided to go with AirRight because Mr. Hix presented us with a plan that made sense at a reasonable price. He clearly listened to us and understood the many issues that needed to be addresses in order to retrofit an older home with modern equipment. We live out of town and he did an excellent job of communicating with us before, during and after the project was completed. His work crews arrived on time and were well prepared. They were professional and respectful inside our home. Our home ,built in 1964, had the original oil boiler and hot water base board heat still in use. It had never had A/C. The basement was partially heated with baseboard heat and wasn't air conditioned. This situation over the years had caused the whole house to smell musty, especially in the summer months. To correct this Mr. Hix installed two Mitsubishi ductless systems in the basement, one in each room to provide both A/C and heat, and to minimize humidity in the basement. We've found these units to work quietly and efficiently and are looking forward to seeing how they do as we move into summer. For the main floor he installed a 20 SEER Trane heat pump with duct work in the attic. The duct work is installed around the perimeter of the attic with vents in each room over each window. This design has worked very and we are pleased with the quiet flow of heat over our very severe winter. ( We elected to keep our oil boiler and have the option to use it as an alternate heat source) This was a complicated project to take on from out of town and we appreciate Mr. Hix's knowledge and attention to every detail. We feel our issues with air quality have been solved and we can move on with renovating the rest of the house.
Description of Work: Designed heating/cooling systems for our 1960's era ranch style home as part of a total home renovation. This required a redesign on two floors to correct musty odor coming from the basement level and a first time install of central A/C. Arrangements for upgraded fuse panel, upgraded exterior power lines, hot water heater, attic steps and improved interior lighting and outlet issues were handled by Mr. Hix.

Bill gave us a detailed estimate/proposal which was one of best prices we received. and he could also do it within a week, which we needed since our old CAC system was unrepairable. Installers were punctual, neat and professional. Only had service for less than a week now but cools very well with much stronger air flow. Overall very positive experience.

Bill Hix provided a detailed estimate after explaining to us all our options and his best recommendations which I painstakingly researched with other pros and the internet. We ended up with two 2.5 ton Trane heat pump system and a complete rework of location of the condensers outside, the duct work inside, addition of an air handler in the attic and replacement of the air handler in the garage. All work was completed professionally and in a timely manner. They even emptied out the attic to get to the areas they needed and replaced everything when they were done. I appreciated the follow up of a quality control person who was sent out 3 weeks later to perform a comprehensive QC on every aspect of the system completing a details diagnostic of the system. We had a top of the line (for the time frame) Carrier unit before. The new Trane 2 zone system has worked awesome through the brutal cold winter of 2014 and we are very comfortable day and night. I haven't looked at the Dominion power consumption details on line yet but judging from my bill things are much more efficient.

Desinging a new duct system coming off the main unit resulted in my estimate a 20% inrease in air movement. This created balance on the entire second floor and now the rooms are more comfortable. I was very impressed with Bill's scientific approach especially the results. The team that did the work was amazing. In addition to installing the new materials, they also strapped up and straightened all of the duck runs located in the attic above the 2nd floor. They also did a mastic seal on all ducts then airsealed with foam around all of the ducts, pipes, anthing related with the system which come up or down through the seconf floor ceiling. All of these things have contributed to the success of the system. (If you have not read up on air sealing your attic, do so. It can save you big bucks in the long run, it brings more comfort to your living space and is a DIY project.) I also installed new thermostats for both systems. The new Tstats can be controlled through the keypad, a remote unit or via the internet. They are easy to program and help you manage your conditioned environment better. I was very impressed with the work that Bill and his team peformed. I have full faith in their capabilities and have hired them to do all my ongoing maintainence. The fact they are locally owned and operated makes me happy. I like dealing with the owner and know Bill Hix will take care of any HVAC problem I have.
Description of Work: Called Hix to consult on solutions for 2nd floor bedrooms being cold especially the one over the garage. Bill Hix viisted and brought his engineering eye to the problem. In the end it was simple air dynamics which was the problem and correctly moving the air from the HVAC unit through the duct work. Bill designed a new duct coming off the HVAC unit to improve air movement and performed other tweaks to maximize the unit's production and delivery effectiveness.

Mr. Hicks was promt and very professonal. He asked me what I was looking to do, what budget and what concerns did I have? After inspecting my units we went over priceing. He used a computer animated presentation starting at 13 seer and going up to 20 seer. This was for a Trane unit wich he suggested. He also dicussed the price of a Goodman unit, if buget was a concern. He explained the diff. between the units. His estimate was very compeditive. I liked that he went over everything on the spot and gave me many options to think about. The price is for 2 Trane units. The price for Goodman was much less.

Had located this company on Angie's list, contacted Mr. Hix and met with him to review my home for possible installation of cooling system. He was about the second company to come to me in my efforts to glean estimates to make a final decision about a company and approximate costs. Mr. Hix seemed interested in the business, was pleasant, courteous to me, came early but stayed only about 20-25 minutes whereas the first company rep had stayed to discuss in great detail and tour my home for about 2 hours. I had done my research about possible cooling systems and was becoming educated on what the challenges may be given that my home is an old one and structurally would be a challenge creatively for any company to install duct work successfully. Mr. Hix did not want to have much discussion with me about what he obviously saw, just promised to send me detailed estimates with cost options as soon as possible, leaving soon. He never did contact me again after his visit, nor did I ever receive a written estimate in the mail as promised. To date since June I have never heard from him. Was I the wrong type of client, in the wrong neighborhood, or what? It would have been very helpful to have heard his concerns to enable me to know what the issues would have been for me to get a contractor who could really do the job and a good idea of probable costs--the purpose anyway for the visits from as many companies as I could get (plan was to see at least 4-5). I must add that I was going through chemo therapy and needed to be as comfortable as possible in my home thereafter for the warmer summer months. He wasted my time and disappointed me greatly.
Description of Work: failed to respond back to homeowner with a written estimate as promised after home visit for cooling system options for my home--heat pump, dual system, or coolers on the wall (?).

First, he was late, which was ok he said there was and accident on the way. Then he looked at the room, went up into the attic to see how it would be ran. Came down asked me if I had a contractor. I said no, we are just doing one thing at a time right now. So, he called his contractor and discussed business with him while I sat there for about 10 mins. then handed me the phone to talk to the contractor. I gave Hix my e-mail address and he had my phone number said I would have an estimate by today. Here we are a week later and I still don't have an estimate. The contactor came over I told him what I wanted and said I want the cheapest way. The room was already framed with electrical ran. All we need is insulation and drywall. He called me back at the end of the week and said the HVAC and the room will cost about $6,000.00!! I'm glad he received the quote on the HVAC.....I'm still waiting! So, VERY expensive and don't do business with someone who has "connections" they will RIP YOU OFF!

" Equipment was sold to me by Bill Hix. He was very prompt and thorough in his analysis of my needs. The price was very competitive with other quotes that I received. The installation was performed by Johnnie and Nick. It was a Monday install and they had to come back later in the week to finish with the furnace venting which was okay with me. Overall the job went along nicely. The A/C cycles well. The furnace was not started up yet as it was July. A follow-up visit confirmed a good install with an order for leveling the furnace and coil. This was done on a final visit. I went to the Trane website to register the equipment and found to my pleasant surprise that the contractor had already done this. Overall I was very pleased with the professionalism, timeliness and courtesies afforded me.

It was a good experience. The guy came and got me squared away. Before that we always had a problem with it being hot upstairs in the summer time. And cold downstairs and visa vesa in the winter time. What ever he did took care of that. We don't have that problem any more. He addressed my concerns perfectly. Like I said, we used to have a problem with the house overheating, being hot in certain places. He answered my questions and corrected the way, we bought this house new and stuff that they had written down on the unit were wrong. He actually fixed it. He said this is the way it should be. And we haven't had a problem since. They know what they are doing.
Description of Work: Air Right Inc. by Hix they came here, and basically my heating, my A/C unit stopped working. So the came and fixed that and then he actually set up so all the dampers were set up correctly and also got me to sign up for the service that they offer. They come out twice a year. They make sure that the damper you set up for the time of year, make sure the air and heat flow throughout the house correctly. He did A/C, heating, it's an A/C heating company. That's what they did. They serviced the unit.

We received 5 quotes and designs for our AC system downstairs. We live in a house that was built in 1938, so there were some challenges in designing the system. out of teh 5 companies Airright was the most affordable ( by thousands with a ll comparable equipment) and had the best design. The crew came in and did a turn key job in less than 3 days with many challenges in our older home. Permits were posted , everything was up to code and the guys were professional. I would definitly use them again

The repairman was very professional and courteous. He even showed up early. Kudos to him. My main gripe is the price. The part that was replaced was the contactor. He left me the part to show the corrosion, no doubt it was faulty. The service call price was discounted because I used an Angie's List coupon, but I think they made up for it by completely over charging for parts. I looked up the part number of the faulty component online and found it on multiple sites. The *most* expensive price was $60.00 for this part. The invoice from AirRight listed this part for $170.00. I understand the need for markups in order to profit but almost TRIPLE for a part is just gouging plain and simple. I don't think I'll be using AirRight again.

Hix Heating & Air was great, I couldn't have asked for more. They did a great job. I negotiated with them on the price and they gave me ten years maintenance service twice a year for some of my units.
Description of Work: Hix Heating & Air Conditioning redid some heating and air pumps for me.
