"Let me start by saying that I love small businesses. I know what it takes to run a business and I know the challenges business owners face. I am a huge cheerleader for a business that just starting and I tell my friends, my clients, my neighbors, you name it. And often times I can and do overlook some things that may not be top notch and extend grace and understanding, because I know being in business for yourself is hard This time, its is with a sad heart that I have to give this ["bad"] review. The review is not based on the quality of the work, the young man that owns this business is a total Class A, hard working, professional, and totally willing to go above and beyond to make things right. This review has EVERYTHING to do with the person who handles the appointments and in charge of answering the phone. She has terrible people skills. The first time I spoke with her a few montha ago, she had a "tone" - I didn't say anything and pretended like nothing happened. The technician came over, did a great job and I was very very pleased. My clothes dryer started acting up yesterday [Sunday] and I am like, I'll give so and so a call but I will wait until tomorrow morning to do so. Around 8:15 I called, I got a recording asking to leave a message. I left a brief message with my name, number, and reason for my call; I always try to be as pleasant as possible. Around 10 a.m. I get a call, I run a business so I answered with my busines greeting. It was the lady who is in charge of answering the phone for this appliance company on the other end. The phone call went something like this: Me: Thank you for calling, this is so and so, how can I help you? Lady: You called and I am calling back [insert attitude in her tone] Me: oh who is this? Lady: Brookside Appliance [with a tone] Me: oh great, you got the message I left on your voicemail, right Lady: I don't check voice messages, I am just calling back [more attitude in her tone, she sounded annoyed that I even asked] Me: [I got a little ticked off by her tone and said] oh, when my clients call and leave a message, I check my voice mail so that when I call back I know how to address their needs or questions Lady: You know what, I am booked and I am not taking any clients [super "attitudey"] and hung up on me. Now I know there's a close relationship between the 2 [Lady answeringthe phone and the Technician], BUT if she treats everyone like this, it won't be too long before she is NOT booked and begging for business. I feel so bad for the gentleman because HE is a super hard worker, and perhaps its time to think about hiring another person with phone manners so he grow his business and thrive."

Appliance sales FAQs

If you’re debating whether it’s worth repairing a damaged appliance, consider a few factors, including the appliance’s age and the cost to replace it. Large, high-value appliances are worth repairing, especially when the fixes are minor and the appliance is only a few years old. However, if the cost of repairs is more than half the price of a new item, then it may be worth replacing it. For example, if your refrigerator repair costs continue increasing and add up to more than 50% of the cost to replace it, you’re better off buying a new one.

Typically, most appliances last anywhere from 10 to 15 years, depending on the appliance, brand, and amount of use. Keeping a regular maintenance schedule, including cleaning and tune-ups, also helps appliances last longer. Dryers, gas stoves, and refrigerators tend to last the longest, averaging about 13 to 15 years. Microwaves and dishwashers tend to last about 10 years on average.

There are a few scenarios when replacing all kitchen appliances simultaneously makes sense, including major renovations, moving into a new home, or purchasing as a set. If you want to refresh your kitchen upon move-in day or start over during a renovation, consider purchasing and replacing your kitchen appliances at once to save on labor costs. Also, if your appliances are all original to the home or are older and require increasing amounts of maintenance and repair, replacing them all at the same time may be a good option.

In most cases, appliance warranties do not transfer to new owners. However, some exceptions apply. To check the status of your appliance warranty and whether you can transfer it when you move, review the terms and conditions of your warranties or consult your home warranty service. When purchasing a new appliance or one from a previous owner, be sure to pay attention to its warranty status, including the type of coverage and any exclusions.

The cost of home appliances ranges from $350 to $8,000 or more, depending on the brand, type of appliance, and features. Additional cost factors include any hookups that need to be installed, such as gas, plumbing, or electrical. Keep in mind that major appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, and water heaters, will cost more than minor appliances, such as microwaves, due to the size, complexity, and essential nature of the item.
